I went in to take a look and ended up buying a salted caramel brownie ($3.25) and a pink cookie with white chocolate chips ($3.65). When you buy anything pink in the shop, 20% of the sales go to Breast Cancer Research (not sure if this is just for the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) or for always). The salted caramel brownie was phenomenal! So rich and buttery and filled with gooey salted caramel and chocolate chips. The cookie was good too, nice and chewy with lots of white chocolate chips, but the salted caramel brownie stole the show, for sure! Everything is baked by them, it is not one of those shops that buys stuff from Costco and resells them, lol, like some other shops in medical buildings. I was served by Esther herself, who is beyond lovely. She told me they recently opened 5 months ago and she's really trying to get the cafe more exposure through social media. She noticed my purse and told me she has the exact same one and brought hers out to show me. Immediately I knew this woman has good taste, lol. The cafe is super cute with a few seats to eat in. It's not too visible from the street, so just look for the medical/office building next to the Westgate Shopping Centre. There's free parking along the front of the building. The parking lot is actually quite large, but many spots are reserved for permit holders, so just look out for the signage. Esther's Cakes N Sweets is a gem. I'm looking forward to trying out other items.

Excited to see that increasingly ubiquitous consumer interest in Pistachio (and you can quote me "Pistachio is the New Hazelnut") with Dubai Chocolate has extended beyond what I've seen in New York and elsewhere to this small town, decided to Once entering this bright sweet treat café, the selection of Pistachio items included baked items, like Croissants, giant Ice Cream Sandwiches with Pistachio Ice Cream in giant Pistachio Macarons, and the beautiful L'Evanescence with (wow!) pistachio mouse and cookie along with raspberry cream! With my family's Sunday dinner reservation about 1 1/2 hours away, decided to keep it to a cold drink and ordering a Oat "Latte à la Pistache." The surprise ended up being that the person behind the counter, also master creator of all these totally exquisite delights, was award winning (and absolutely friendly) Pâtissière Sabrina Sigouin!! (That's Master Cake Designer for all us English speakers!) Since it's Sabrina's shop, it should be no surprise that La Belle Pâtissière is super on-trend featuring Pistachio! Should add, my Pistachio Oat Latte was amazing! (Thank you, Sabrina!) Only wish I had more time in Montebello to test out one of those giant Pistachio Ice Cream Sandwiches!!! Will have to save it to next time! That being said, if you're in Montebello, definitely recommend stopping by the sensational La Belle Pâtissière!!!

Adam Bakes - Cinnamon Swirl Blondie

TL;DR/The Short Version: Bake shop with very limited hours…read morebut very delicious goods! The Long Version: I've been wanting to try Adam Bakes for some time now. I don't even remember where I learned about it, likely some social media outlet. However, they are only open on Saturdays from 8am-12pm in the space that is Morning Owl on Rochester St on weekdays. As an aside, I think this is a great business model where businesses that are only open on weekdays allow other businesses to use their space on weekends! Their limited hours is a limiting factor for me because I enjoy sleeping in on weekends, lol. It would be one thing if they were in my neighbourhood, but they are not. Anyway, I discovered that Adam Bakes items are sold at The Bower Coffee Company, which IS in my neighbourhood and their hours are less limited. Spoiler Alert: what I had was so good, I hauled my butt out to the actual Adam Bakes shop the following Saturday to try more of their goods! So the item that got me hooked was the Cinnamon Swirl Blondie ($4.85 at Bower Coffee or $4 directly from Adam Bakes). It was so soft and rich and had creamy cheesecake bits swirled it. It had a potent cinnamon flavour and I loved it. When I went to the actual Adam Bakes shop I got a Ham and Swiss Croissant ($5), a regular croissant ($4.75) and an Apple Turnover ($6). The croissant was delicious. The croissant was very flakey and buttery. The ham in the Ham and Swiss Croissant was a fattier cut with less protein content than the type of ham I like, so I will stick with the regular croissants in the future. I might try the roast beef croissant when that one is offered again (not always on the menu). The apple turnover was filled with apples and coated in cinnamon sugar, a bit too much cinnamon sugar for me though, lol. It was tasty nonetheless, but at $6, I felt the croissant was better bang for my buck. I'm looking forward to trying their other offerings. The staff there recommended the date square for next time. He said the crust has pistachios and candied oranges in it. Yum. I will likely take his suggestion ;) Staff were friendly and welcoming. The cafe is cozy and has some patio seating as well a indoor seating. Street parking only, but readily available and free on Saturdays. Review #134 (2025)

I had the mango-passion fruit dessert and the flavours were delicious not overly sweet and very natural. I find it hard to come across desserts with true, authentic fruit flavours, so I was very happy to find this spot. The fruit dessert was around $12-13. They also have a great selection of pastries and desserts. Something I wish they had was free water. I didn't think of asking, but since they only had bottled Evian for purchase, it can add a bit to the bill. Not sure if they offer free water, but that's just me hahaha. Overall, it's not a place I'd visit daily since it's far for me, but it's definitely somewhere I'll bring someone who's visiting Ottawa. It's a nice, unique spot for something sweet.

As most of the space is dedicated to the baking and display space which opens up to the seating area. I wasn't surprised to see the fruit looking desserts as they are the rage nowadays (thank Cedric Grolet for providing inspiration). I tried the pear version and a tarte tatin. Tarte Tatin is OK but I am happy you that its at least being offered here in Ottawa. I enjoyed the pear dessert. Very pretty to look at with subtle taste though (if you are expecting a flavor punch this isn't it) light to finish as well. I will be tempted to try other fruit interpretations next visit. The croissants looked as well. I took a few goodies for the trip home. Next trip I will be sure to revisit.

Then we noticed their "baked yesterday" section. They had 2 chocolate almond croissants wrapped in a bag for $1. Hello? $0.50 for a chocolate almond croissant? I'm in! They looked and felt fresh to me, not all dry and stale. They don't have prices on all their items, so I'm not sure how much everything else cost individually, but the total with taxes was a little over $5 for everything. Staff were really nice, when one of the ladies saw me putting the butter tart into one of the paper bags they had out, she asked me if I wanted a box. The place also looked very clean. The plain croissant was pretty good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pecan butter tart filling was soft and gooey. The crust was ok, but I'm not usually a fan of pie crust. The chocolate almond croissants did not taste day-old to me at all. It was still crispy on the outside (despite being in a plastic bag) and flaky. The inside was full of almond paste and there were chocolate spots throughout. Such a deal for $0.50! My mom loves pastries, so I'm glad to find a place not too far from my parents' place. I might have to stop here occasionally to pick up some treats before coming over. Everyone loves guests bearing gifts, lol. The bakery has no signage on the actual building (at least not at the time of the writing of this review), the sign is in the parking lot. Look for that sign!

The manger indicated she'd look into the batch of icing, taste test it. After a week I still hadn't heard from her so I tried to follow up. Three calls (the staff kept telling me she'd be in later and they'd have her call me, almost scripted), two emails and a social media message she finally called me back. She said she was out of town (but each time I called her staff said she'd be in later). She said the batch of icing was all gone. It had been used on other cakes and that she wasn't able to test it. She asked me what I was looking for, what would make me happy (ummm to have the icing taste tested). She offered a cake or a fair refund. We settled on half my money back. While I appreciate the money back I don't appreciate having to make so many calls, two emails and a social media outreach for a resolution.
