For our wedding anniversary, we traveled across the river to Annarellas Ristorante on 276 Malden…read moreTurnpike in Saugerties We arrived early as we were traveling about an hour away and we're aware there were many detours as the Malden Bridge is undergoing repairs.  I'd read about Annarellas prior to this, and based on glowing reviews chose this to mark 50 years together, 39 as husband and wife...long engagement! We were not disappointed. We were seated promptly by our lovely hostess, and Shaun immediately came over to recite specials and to take our orders. He was attentive and we knew we were in good hands! We started with the Dr. Fox Cocktail: Angostura bitters, Bulleit Rye, Apple Liqueur, Dry Curacao, and Sweet Vermouth, which was perfect. It was accompanied by a hummus trio to spread on the bread. There was also a delicious foccacio. Next we were served a perfect salad, delicately dressed, and what made the salad so delightful was that the lettuce was torn into manageable pieces. A pet peeve of mine is large lettuce leaves that are difficult to wrangle, and this was not the case here. There were also tiny bits of cauliflower that gave the salad a nice texture and crunch.  I had the Stuffed Artichoke and my husband had Shrimp Gamberi on an Arugula salad. Both were substantial and beautifully seasoned. We had two glasses of an Argentine Tomero Malbec. It was a generous pour. For the main course, I had Polla al Limone (Lemon Chicken) over spinach. A simple dish done well. My husband had the Halibut special, a classic Mediterranean baked halibut with tomatoes, capers, and olives. So good that he finished it all...a rarity for him. (The halibut was pricey and it would be appreciated if the price was mentioned when the specials were gone over. Perhaps we should have asked.) We finished with a Sorbetto al Lampone, a tart raspberry sorbet in a dark chocolate shell and sliced.  And as we left, our sweet hostess brought over Lucianno, the most adorable puppy, to send us off with puppy kisses! We definitely will be back...especially for the wild boar ragu over pappadelles. One nitpicking observation. The entrance to the restaurant was a tad shabby. We mistook it for the service entrance. It needs to be spruced up to match the superb food inside!

And idk what it is, it could be just the local folks don't got that much flavor in their taste buds and they the anti-City folk type so most of the businesses just lack in that field. With that said... this was a pretty decent Italian spot I will say WITH that consideration in mind. I did have the ravioli with slow cooked carne inside and that was delicious. My wife got the lasagna and... it was iiiitte. Family next to us were raving about it and like they were nice and we were being polite. But like let's be real here - it tasted like Stouffer's. Not that it's a knock, but at that point, you paying for the atmosphere. Which I will say the indoors is nice. You can have a nice date night or family outing here. There's a bar and plenty of parking. The service was on point and very accommodating with our new born. Who we were chopping it up with our waiter, and found out the owner's name is also the same as our kid so that was fun talking with them on. The garlic bread - idk if it's supposed to come cold, but it had like tomato sauce on it, it was like the complimentary bread with some extra shit on it. But I wasn't feeling that, but my inner Italian side just kept dipping it in my red, and it was all good. I'm glad we came here but probably won't be back if given the chance. But we looked around, and it seemed like to be the only viable Italian restaurant in the area so, if given under the same conditions, we would be back lol. I just went back and forth there like 3 times. Is that non-Ai enough of a review for you Yelp? After they flagged me for actually structuring and editing my reviews like in old school English class. Now yelp is promoting "Yelp Assistant" even though it's Ai. Gtfo here lmao

Would definitely recommend giving this lovely spot a try, however... Do not order the "pizza"…read more Meatball appetizer with polenta was amazing. Ordered two different pasta dishes which were very good. On another visit decided to try the pizza....it is not pizza. Not sure why it's listed in a separate category as if you are actually getting a pizza. It does indicate crispy flatbread style but this was not even a flat bread. I would liken it to a saltine cracker with canned tomato sauce and mozzarella- that was the flavor- yet it wasn't crispy it was completely limp when we tried to pick it up. The staff was very attentive and graciously accommodated our disappointment with the item. It's rather odd because this pizza selection doesn't fit with the rest of the menu. Avoid that one thing and you'll be ok!

We could only order the dinner and appetizers at the same time. That was strange and it continued. One person asked to swap out her pasta for a vegetable and that wasn't allowed. I asked what kind of pasta they had to go with my order and was told there would be a fee if changed linguine to spaghetti. I told the manager that we would not be back and he said "sounds good" and walked away. Horrible experience considering we have eaten there for 7 years.

Didn't have a reservation but it was the middle of the afternoon so we were able to get a table right away. We were sat in a back room which is part of the dining room. It was a little small but it appeared that there was another dining area downstairs. Bernie was our server and super nice. She quickly came over with breadsticks which was a happy surprise! We ended up splitting the Gorgonzola Stuffed Figs -- small bits for sure, but good for sharing. We also ordered the baked clams oreganata which was my favorite. I typically don't go out of my way for a Cosmo but started out with Ceil's Pear Cosmo - it was SO good. For dessert, I ordered their Valentine's special which was a Chocolate Covered Strawberry Martini. This didn't hit the mark for me with the strawberry chunks. I wish I had ordered another pear Cosmo. Savona's was not the overall vibe I wanted for Valentine's Day dinner so I am glad we came here the day after for lunch. This would be a great place for a big family dinner! Wait staff including Bernie were all super friendly.

Although our server was nice, she was often slow and not readily available. She and other runners/servers did not bring many things we ordered/asked for. 1 friend never got his side of pasta for his entire meal, another did not get his glass of wine when others who ordered at the same time as him got theirs. My girlfriend had to ask 3 times for a steak knife and we were constantly begging for basic items like drinks and ketchup. The predatory billing practices here are shocking: 20% Automatic Gratuity: ok, this is not unusual for large groups in many resistant, but clearly explained why the staff felt no need to actually serve and take care of us. 10% "Living Wage Fee": A mandatory tax on the customer because the owner refuses to pay their staff properly! Never experienced this fee firsthand only saw it online. An absolute joke to expect us to give an extra 10% to your staff because you're not paying a reasonable salary! $30 Cake Slicing Fee: We brought a birthday cake. They stored it and brought it out, but we ended up taking it home without them ever touching or slicing it. They still had the nerve to charge us $30 just for the "privilege" of having it in the building. When we spoke to the manager about the 10% surcharge, he acted like we were the problem and talked about how they are trying to make a living. We were all asking ourselves why he's not paying them a fair salary?? why is it our responsibility to pay even more, particularly for poor service! The food is fair at best and wildly overpriced. Definitely go anywhere else as this place is an overpriced tourist trap with lousy service!
