I have been hearing about Sweet Journey for awhile, and was walking downtown today & had the opportunity to finally check them out! First, I appreciate that in these times, the price has gone up, but is still more affordable than other local competitors, which is much appreciated. It's also nice to see so many other boba shops open up in town--many/most of them are franchises/part of a larger chain. When I think of local businesses, I am thinking here and Eggroll Cafe near UMass Lowell. I had the lychee tea w/boba (my go-to), and it was refreshing, boba very chewy. COVID Edition: There's extremely limited seating, but all your orders coming out will be in "takeout" form. They formed their table to split the entrance/exit path. Also, they use a plexiglass to protect themselves and customers. Staff are wearing masks and gloves as well. read more

First, the bubble tea is nothing special. I do want to try their special drinks, though. Where this place shines is the desserts. These are the best Asian desserts I've ever had from a cafe!! The bingsu is just excellent, creamy and fresh and delicious. Red bean is classic, but the mango one is also amazing and includes juicy mango. The honey toast is one of the best desserts I've had in my life, though. The bread must be good brioche, the ice cream is great, and the whole combination is mouth-wateringly sweet and creamy. I used to love this place about 5 YEARS AGO.... But when I went recently after a craving for boba tea I was highly disappointed. The place has not been updated since 2019 and it shows when you walk in it reeks of old spaghetti and sweet confections. Not a great combination. My sister ordered a Thai iced tea and she said it tasted like cooking oil and when I had a sip the bobas were already deteriorating in the chair in the tea. It was awful and this was a disappointment because it's typically a classic flavor. My honey green tea with lychee was amazing tho but I did ask for a exchange for her drink and was declined. Not only was the tea bad but all the games are DESTROYED and left like that. It would be to have some new ones and some nice decor since it's giving hospital cafeteria. read more

Yay, a new boba tea spot in Lowell! Sweet Journey is located in the downtown area so be prepared to parallel park and run into a lot of one way streets just to get there. And if you travel by foot there- thumbs up to ya! It's super clean with very minimal simplistic decors with a lot of empty spaces which they totally could utilize the space with a couch and a coffee table to make it more appealing towards the crowds who wants to hangout and play the board games there (a few selections available). It sure was awkward when I was the only customer in this big empty room. Black Tea Macchiato- The combination of the sweet (coconut?) milk with a delicious bold flavored iced tea is my kind of drink. Definitely coming back again for this. Jasmine Tea Macchiato- Tasted pasty and bland. Oh powdered drinks. Original Waffle- It was dry and not fluffy. Very strange texture for waffle balls. Yoooooooo! I grew up in SoCal where I drank boba DAILY and Sweet Journey definitely hits my snobby boba cravings! We got the Matcha Latte (hot) and it was deliciously rich. It felt like I was lost in a luxurious pool of green tea goodness. Rich, flavorful, ever so slightly bitter, this was a kickass Matcha drink and I couldn't have been more satisfied! We also got an iced taro milk tea with grass jelly and it was the sweet escape we needed. High quality and generous, I'm salivating just thinking about it. But my fave part was probably the egg waffles! They have the waffles in original, chocolate, and matcha variations! I ordered the original one and it paired so well with our sweet drinks! I went to sweet journey for lunch for the first time. They had advertised pasta to go for $5.55 which is a steal around here. I ordered the marinara sauce with sausage and a passion fruit bubble tea on the side. The pasta lack luster. The sauce was ok but could have used more seasoning. The sausage was more like a keilbasa when I thought it was going to be a ground pork sausage (but I should have asked before ordering, so thats my bad). The bubble tea had very little flavor. I've had passion fruit bubble tea from other places here in Lowell and usually the flavor is strong, sweet, and sour. But this one had a much stronger tea flavor. Inside is cute and they have waffles available too. All in all it wasn't spectacular and it wasn't horrible, just so-so. I would try again (especially their waffles) and see how that goes. read more

I love this place! It's my favorite place to go in downtown, Lowell whenever I crave for milk tea. The pearl is always soft, and they also brew their own tea. Many flavors to choose from and you can add any toppings you like with extra charge. I would recommend classic milk tea and taro. There are many desserts as like waffles, shave ice, honey toast and more. Regarding to level of sweetness with your drink, you can always request how you want it base on your liking. 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because there aren't a lot of boba places in Massachusetts outside of Boston. I came in at 5pm on a Friday afternoon and it was basically empty save for one couple. The drink that I ordered -- matcha milk tea with 50% sugar and no ice with boba -- was made extremely quickly as a result. The boba was softer than usual and very sweet, which I enjoyed. However, the drink itself was underwhelming. There were little streaks of matcha powder on the sides because it wasn't stirred well enough and the overall taste was not up to par with my usual standards given how weak, diluted, and powdery it tasted. Overall, I didn't mind the drink that much because it was competent enough for me to enjoy boba after not having it for a bit, but it could have been better. What I will say, though, is that the board games were a nice touch. The deserts looked pretty nice, too, and I'm hoping to give them a try if I ever visit again. read more

What a Sweet Journey today, I went around 2/3pm on a Tuesday and no lines, only 4 other people there so I was a tad nervous. Was recommended by a local friend to come here so we thought we'd give it a try. I ordered the iced matcha latte, which is one of the most popular drinks ordered there, green tea waffle(original egg puff, iced green tea, condensed milk, almonds and whip cream), matcha and original egg waffles to-go. The egg waffles were fluffy and full of flavor. The drink came out beautifully and i had my fingers crossed hoping it wasn't one of those pretty drinks that didn't taste as good as they look, but it was amazing !!! I usually always ask for less sugar in my drinks, but i wanted to try the regular amount first, and it was the perfect amount of sweetness and tasted like real matcha. The gentlemen running the place were friendly. Not sure how long they have been open, but they should definitely put up a wall so we can't see everything going on in the kitchen up front, seems a bit cluttered back there. Also the place is really spacious and the walls are white so adding color wouldn't hurt. We stopped in today with our kids and enjoyed some milk teas with boba, smoothies for the kids, and a green tea waffle on the go. The black and green milk teas were great, not too sweet, which is how I like them, and I can't wait to go back to try the macchiatos, which the people next to us ordered and that looked totally delicious. The waffle on the go was better than I expected- a whole waffle broken up into its little bubbles and put into a cup with whipped cream on top. Not going to complain about that. I love going in and trying out bubbles teas at new places. The guys working there are nice. However, I was pretty disappointed when I walked in and saw the powder in the plastic jars. I was very excited to find out that there was a new bubble tea shop in downtown Lowell. I'm always glad to see new businesses open up there. I could see this place being a cool, new after school hangout/study spot for students from LHS and MCC. There's wifi and a bunch of classic games like Monopoly, Jenga, Uno, Heads Up, and etc. The shop is located right across the street from The Old Court. It is very open, clean and spacious. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. The menu has a variety of teas, smoothies, and desserts. The price range is reasonable and affordable. Everything is listed between $3-9. I ordered the Jasmine Green Milk Tea and the Chocolate Shibuya Toast. I really enjoyed both, especially the toast! I highly recommend trying that. My friend ordered the Strawberry Waffle and I had a few bites. I love waffles and the waffle itself was delicious, but the strawberry tasted a little too sour. We didn't realize until halfway through finishing it that it was missing the almonds. Overall, I would definitely say Sweet Journey is worth a visit. Have been slowing exploring the surprising amount of excellent food hidden away in lovely city of Lowell and was pleasantly surprised with Sweet Journey. The Hong Kong style egg waffles had a sugary crunch that complemented the dough very well. There seemed to be a endless amount of desert and drinks available at this place so a repeat visit is due. Found this unsuspecting gem while strolling around downtown Lowell on a Saturday night. I have to admit, I was a little worried seeing as it was super vacant inside. The store itself is super white and kind of blah. They also have all their powders out in the open for everyone and their moms to see so customers know their fruit smoothies are probably not made with fresh fruit. I never get smoothies at boba places anyways - I just stick to the milk teas. I tried their jasmine milk green tea and thought it was pretty good! Good ratio of tea to milk...not watered down. Solid stuff. Their boba had a good texture too. I also opted for their "original waffle on the move" which is basically an egg puff bubble waffle with powdered sugar. I always get their Thai iced tea which at some places can be too bitter or too sweet, but here it's always perfect! I got the honeydew milk tea with mango popping boba, and two sips in I decided to write a review. This is totally worth the money, I came at a dead hour so I got my order in no time at all. The best BOBA place ever! I have been looking for the go to spot for Asian desserts, but I finally found it. Allston and Chinatown are the typical places to go, but this spot is better than BOBA in those other areas. This is great to bring friends, typically a group of 4, and play some board games, while drinking BOBA and eat waffles. The interior design is really cute! It's got a black and white scene, but it's not plain because there are hipster Asian paintings and the floors are really clean. The price for the food and drinks are so worth it!
