My family and I are cheesecake fanatics. My little sister for example, constantly invents and re-consititutes cheesecake recipees from time to time and has us as her taste testers. So after hearing about this place, the siblings and I went to the Sweet Hereafter to test the waters albeit with a bit of skepticism. I have been there a few times now. Every time has been pure pleasure. We are a family that shares. After all sharing is caring right? We also brought with us a few friends. Which is a good because we would order 4-5 different cheesecakes based on what was available at the time and try eachothers dish. The cheescakes are of immaculate quality and the variety is always rotating its never the same old selection and appropriate as well in that there is always a cake for someone. My favorites so far have been the Apple Country (name?) and the Peanut Butter Chocolate cheese cake (with raspberry sauce). The constituency and thickness of the core of the cheesecake is important. This is what makes a good cheesecake from one that is just grainy, too sugary or stiff. Or sometimes you get cheesecakes that are devoid of flavour. This is never the case at Sweet Hereafter. The decor is sublime, I often think it looks like a the backdrop of (insert your favourite rnb singer) a music video. Its classy but fun. The price is ridiculously cheap. I think its too cheap for the quality if you ask me...this place is worth every penny. My bill was around $10 with two cups of coffee and a slice of cheesecake, taxes in. The only regret is I wish they had a liquor license because nothing beats eating cheesecake with a nice glass of white wine. The coffee and teas are great tho...and the host(s) are always amazing, appreciative and obviously proud of their establishment. It is with great consideration that I write this five-star review. After months of grueling research -trip after trip to Sweet Hereafter for cheesecake, cupcakes, coffees, teas, and sodas - my tired and weary mind is finally able to collect its thoughts. This adorable little hideaway on Quinpool Road has seen far too much of me. Whether I've crawled in unshowered and ordered Red Velvet cheesecake for lunch, trekked in with friends before a movie at the Oxford for a slice of chocolate peanut butter, or sheepishly took two slices of Oh Henry to-go (and not to share), the owners have been nothing but welcoming and delightful. Also of note, they don't seem to judge no matter how much cheesecake you consume, and at what hours of the day you consume it. This is important. The décor is everything you want of a place that specializes in rich, delicious cheesecakes. Between the pink accents, the patterned wallpapers, and sparkly chandeliers, there's always something to look at - and that's without even getting into the hanging photobooth where you can work out that sugar rush. It's cozy but there's definitely room for groups. I'd just suggest calling ahead to make sure they know you're coming. As for the cheesecakes, they're unreal. Not only are they perfect no matter what niche flavour floats your boat, they're also accessible for all of your dietary-needy friends. Need a vegan slice? Done. Need something gluten-free? Easy. Need something vegan AND gluten-free? Yep - they can do that too. Keep this in mind for party planning! I've had at least eight different flavours (without even counting the delicious cupcakes) and have yet to be disappointed. I have a problem. Want to kick it up a notch? They do a cheesecake fondue. Think about it. Sadly, there's no liquor license but I think a lot of that has to do with neighbourhood restrictions. Luckily, you can get your cocktail on at nearby places (may I suggest Seasons?) and then drunk-eat your fill of sweets. Otherwise, their Laughing Whale coffee is ridiculously good. It's a little splurgey at about $12-13 for a slice and a coffee, but you won't question the cost after that first bite. Go and getcha some. read more

My go-to cheesecake place. After being introduced to Sweet Hereafter via a Yelp event (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/vegan-variety-night-sweet-hereafter-halifax), I was kinda hooked on Sweet Hereafter. Mostly for their vegan offerings. I enjoy cheesecake but I'm also a vegetarian with vegan leanings (and some vegan friends) so their awesome lineup is always sure to please. But I'll get back to that: let's assume you're eating in. You should be prepared for some awesome interior decor. Get ready also for friendly staff who will help you with actual opinions on the options; not just "oh, they're all good" nonsense that so many restaurant servers offer. Aaand back to cheese cake. I've picked up orders as many times as I've dined in. I don't always properly plan ahead; sometimes it's a last-minute "Hey you got a vegan cheesecake I can get to go" call that has always yielded delicious results. The only disappointment I've ever felt in relation to Sweet Hereafter is either a) all the cheesecake is gone; or b) I'm too full of cheesecake to eat more cheesecake. read more

This is based on a drop-in, take out visit. Looking for something different to get the missus for her birthday, I pointed out this location one night after a late supper at Relish Burger joint just up the road. Noted mentally, the website menu was consulted and the decision was to just drop in after 6pm and pick up a few slices. I left with coffee crisp, rum cake, cookies & cream and neopolitan. There were up to 9 different cake flavors to choose from even a gluten free option. I'm not gonna lie, the 4 slice were not cheap ~38$ however they are BIG SLICES. Staff were great to box them up get me on my way. How good? very good. like still feeling guilty about having 2 more slices in the fridge for tonight (mouhahahhaaaa). A quick glance around the venue - small cozy spot with black, pink & purple colors. Most of the table were for 2 (of course). It reminded me of the cheesecake place in Montreal (name escapes me). Probably not a spot I will visit every week, but I can think of coming back 3-4 times a year for special occasions. Worth a visit to complete your evening out on Quinpool rd. read more

Yes it is a bit high for a slice of heavenly Cheese cake but its money well spend. My wife got the groupon deal a few months back but we never did come around to use it until a month back. She got the raspberry mango and I, the tripple choc. It was absolutely delicious. I am not a fan of cheese cake but after tasting them from this shop, I got converted almost immediately. We've been back to the shop again since then to try out the other types. If you are around the area and would like to have a sip of lunenberg coffee with the cheese cake to go with it - try Sweet Hereafter. I believe most people would love it. read more

I first went to the Sweet Hereafter when I came along to a Yelp event for vegan cheesecake testing. I have a dairy allergy so I had written cheesecake off forever. Colin and his team at the Sweet Hereafter were so welcoming and help to put on a fantastic evening. Naturally loving cheesecake as much as I do this became a place that I started to frequent. When it came time to order a wedding cake I wondered about having a vegan cheesecake. I went to meet Colin with my Mom who is a cheesecake whiz herself, but didn't want the pressure of making our wedding cake. Instead Colin and my Mom worked together to create a beautiful and delicious three tiered vegan chocolate cheesecake complete with white chocolate flowers that were 100% edible by this allergy stricken bride. In addition to the wedding cake we ordered several others (dairy versions) to serve to our guests along with our late night snack. People were raving about the cheesecake the next day and some had no idea that some of the cake they ate wasn't even really made with cheese! We had such an amazing experience working with Colin on our wedding cake and I cannot wait to go back to stuff my face full of delicious vegan cheesecake again soon! read more

My hubby and I are huge fans of Sweet Hereafter. They offer all sorts of cheesecakes for everyone - from normal cheesecakes to gluten free cheesecakes and vegan cheesecakes. Their cheesecakes are absolutely delicious with sauce topping and whipped cream by the side. Besides cheesecakes, they also have delicious home made cup cakes. Their cheesecakes and cupcakes are definitely the best in town!!! As for drinks, they offer good quality coffee, tea and pop. In addition, they serve ice water in pretty glass for free :-). The owners are truly passionate about their business and also very friendly people. They are very responsive to their customers in Facebook and Twitter. They really demonstrate good customer service! I was totally stoked to hunt down some delicious vegan cheesecake in Halifax, that I didn't have to make myself. Initially, I had checekd out Sweet Hereafter's menu online and felt slightly mislead as I thought there would be more than one vegan option, or that this was their primary focus. So, just to let my fellow vegans know, they try to have one vegan cheesecake on rotation each day. The decor was very lush and adorable, though I didn't feel like I could sit there for awhile and read like I do most cafes. It is kind of moreso the spot on Quinpool you'd go after dinner if you were craving dessert. The owner was very friendly and we talked quite a bit about Yelp, veganism, etc. I ordered a slice of the vegan chocolate hazelnut cheesecake, and a cup of coffee. The cheesecake was looovely, and perfectly complimented the coffee. Had they a liquor license, I would have enjoyed it with kahlua in my coffee also. Maybe this just means I need take out next time. All I say is WOW!, i was 100% impressed. Our waitress was knowledgeable and super friendly (as well as had birthday candles on hand so we could surprise a friend for her birthday). The cheesecake was soo good, and they had gluten free and vegan options which is always a good thing. I personal had a traditional cheesecake in the rhubarb crisp flavour which the tartness of the rhubarb worked perfectly with the rich creamy cheesecake. A friend also had the chocolate vegan cheesecake which was amazing and was the best texture (creamy but light). After visiting Sweet Hereafter I am almost tempted to stop following them on twitter/facebook because everything they post looks so yummy, but I have officially made the decision to hod out till they post s'more flavour again and that one I will not be able to resist. read more

I like to think that I'm a good decision maker. I can tell on the first date if there will ever be a second (most often, no). I will gladly say, "Hells no" to a girlfriend who's having trouble picking an outfit. And I can quickly tell if a vegan dessert is awesome or not. Sweet Hereafter = awesome. Full disclosure: I'm not vegan. But I do have crippling food allergies to most things delicious (like dairy) that have left me staring sadly at cheesecake that's being eaten by family and friends. Yes, I'm the creepy weirdo who sits next to you and says, "Can you just let me smell it, please?" while you indulge. So when I read that Sweet Hereafter had rockin' vegan cheesecake I had to find out for myself. When I arrived there on Victoria Day they told me sadly that they were just baking a few more vegan-styles and they wouldn't be ready until 6 p.m. that evening. So, on a hope and a prayer I ordered a surprise for myself and the BF. A complete vegan cheesecake for me and a complete normal person cheesecake for him. Ah-mazing. Admittedly, I do forget what normal person cheesecake tastes like, but with vegan cheesecake this good - who cares!! I had the dark chocolate raspberry cake all to myself and ate it for breakfast and dinner. I'm not kidding. The BF savoured his red velvet cheesecake a bit more responsibly, having a piece after dinner every night until it was gone. No complaints. Go here. Seriously. Staff are kind and friendly. Small, quaint shop to have tea and a piece of cheesecake. Varieties change frequently. We had high hopes, but as others indicated, the presentation is nice, but the cheesecakes are a heavy cream cheese texture ( not baker's cheese) and lack depth of flavor. The crust was crispy, but only on the bottom. Therefore, the side of the cheesecake which baked up directly against the pan was tough, dry, and not enjoyable to eat. The chocolate cheesecake hardly tasted like chocolate. Had it not been for the chocolate sauce on top, we would not have noticed hardly any chocolate flavor in the cheesecake. We also agree with others, $9.00 was expensive for the size of the slice. We wish we could give them a higher rating, but we have to base our review on the cheesecake slices we purchased. read more

"Sweet Hereafter".....a 1997 Atom Egoyan film that documents the effects of a tragic bus accident on the people small town OR a lovely little Halifax spot with fabulous cheesecake? Well, both! My review is based on two experiences: 1. a Kit Kat cheesecake that was brought to my office to celebrate a birthday (swooning ensued), and 2. a call-ahead, take-out visit last Friday. I called only an hour in advance and there were a number of cakes from which to choose. With more notice, or if I wanted to purchase by the slice, there were additional choices as well as vegan and gluten free options. I settled on the turtle cheesecake. It served 10-12 and the cost was $40, no tax. We shared with our neighbours after Friday night pizza and we all agreed: the cake was EXCELLENT. I want a piece right this very second, but: 1. it's 10:30 am, 2. I worked out this morning, and 3. it's pouring out, so not ideal cheesecake buying/eating circumstances. I'm looking forward to trying other flavours and cheesecake will be my choice for my next birthday. The decor is pretty and kind of glam and "girly." The person who greeted me was very friendly and helpful. If you want to be popular or if you're just searching for an idea the next time you say "I'll bring dessert," go to Sweet Hereafter. read more

First and foremost, I love the atmosphere of Sweet Hereafter. The mod Victorian style is very pleasing on the eyes and it's right up my alley as far as style goes. The damasque pink wallpaper, gorgeous comfortable seating and elegant mirrors really give this place a wonderful vibe. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and I highly appreciate that they have a vegan cheesecake choice, it would be nice if they had more than one option a day but I won't complain since any option is awesome. Tonight it was the blackforest. Rich, creamy, smooth and flavorful. Simply perfect for the sweet tooth that I have. I will definitely be back to get a taste of their other vegan flavours. read more

Not many new businesses get the experience down really, really well early on in the game, but Sweet Hereafter is the exception to the rule. I am so excited about this place, that I tell everyone I know about it, I swear. What's so awesome about this biz? Well, for starters the proprietors know how to serve up an experience that's creative and decadent. The decor adds a rich and fun feel, and because the choices of cheesecake are constantly changing, you'll want to engage with them online, as their Facebook and Twitter pages will keep you in the loop on whatever new flavours are becoming available. The big winner for me is that they've figured out how to do a vegan cheesecake really, really well. There's always an option on hand, and not only does it look just like a real cheesecake, they taste phenomenal. Seriously. Additionally, they do have GF options for the crust, so if your a DF, GF, or vegan person, there's likely a treat you can really enjoy. Most recently, I had a slice of Chocolate Hazlenut, a creation that was the suggestion of one of their vegan customers. Thank you, fellow cheesecake lover, because it was absolutely delicious! Although the liquor laws keep this place a dry venue, they have some fantastic teas, coffees and a delicious house-made green tea lemonade that is really fantastic. Oh boy, they sure do make a good-looking slice of cheesecake. Unfortunately when we got beyond the presentation we found the offerings at Sweet Hereafter to be too heavy, too sweet, and too expensive for what we got. Sweet Hereafter claims to offer "Big City Style" cheesecake. I'm not sure this is entirely honest, because the cheesecake I recently ate while in a bigger city was creamy, not too sweet, used higher quality ingredients, and was $6/slice. Better quality for less cost! Nice staff and a clean, spacious interior is a plus, but it's hard to recommend when the core product doesn't stand up. read more

This place was highly recommended by several sources so we went with high expectations. The cheesecake is atypical NY style cheesecake. I was disappointed that the kitkat cheesecake didn't have any crispy wafers inside. It rasted more like a regular chocolate cheesecake without that kitkat crunchy texture. If ever I'm dining on or around Quinpool I make sure I skip the dessert menu so I can come here instead. Not only do I go out of my way to stop in here, but I go out of my way to tell everyone I know how awesome it is. All the cheesecakes are homemade quality and there's always a vegan and gluten-free option. The seating is a little off, as you would expect a food establishment to have tables a little higher than the chairs which isn't the case for each seating area here. Moreover, the decor is hard to overcome at first, but once you try that first bite of your first piece of cake you'll realize that the decor is only as ridiculous as the cheesecake is sinfully delicious. I do NOT have a sweet tooth (I'll take the cheese and olives any day), so when I recommend dessert you'd better take note. This place does ONLY cheesecake and every single one I've tried here is kill-worthy. I'm not a chocolate afficionado (like it well enough but nowhere near enough to even dare post reviews about it) but I am passionately assured that the gazzilion choco options, from Kit Kat to Smores, are top-shelf fabulous. For me, though, the velvety, sweet-tart punch of the mango cheesecake, topped with a decadent raspberry coulis, reigns supreme. I went in later at night so there was not red velvet cheese cake which everyone raves about which is okay, I grabbed a chocolate cupcake and was more than satisfied. The interior has a very romantic vibe to it and I LOVE the way it's decorated. HOWEVER, with the limited menu and NOTHING to keep you in the shop, it's hard to spend much time there. If the tables had board games on them or a deck of cards this place could be a hot hang out spot. read more

I think the cheesecake is great, delicious but the profit they are making on it must be very high... could probably charge less and get more repeat business. My husband and I want to always go back but then we remember the price and decide it's not affordable to regularly go back. When I got a wicked chocolate craving my friend suggested we come here. I mean, who doesn't love cheesecake? Who am I to refuse? After a really tough choice between Boston creme, cookies and cream and crispy crunch I settled on Boston creme. I asked the server which she recommended and instead of suggesting one she went into detail about each and the Boston creme definitely sounded the best. Apparently the guy that makes the cheesecakes blends Venetian creme into the cheese and that creates the filling. The cheesecake was really good. It was creamy and chocolatey and smooth. It was honestly a perfect cheesecake. The chef has really mastered the art of cheesecake! My friend got the vegan chocolate raspberry cheesecake. I really don't like the combination of chocolate and raspberry so I didn't try it but he seemed to really like it. read more

How sweet it is!!! These folks really know what they're doing with a stick of cream cheese, let me tell you! I spent a lovely couple hours here last night indulging in a piece of Cherry-lime cheesecake and a lovely iced green tea with lemon. The cheesecake case was an assorment of about nine cakes that change up daily, each one looking more delectable than the last. The cake is top notch and the experience overall is fantastic. Great decor and service. You get what you pay for, which yes, I admit is a little pricey at about 12 dollars for my slice and tea, but once you savour that first bite you won't be sorry. Be aware, there is no liquor lisence, so you need to get your libations elsewhere, but trust me, your tastebuds will definitely be satisfied! I came here for a date the other day and it was a great experience. The man helping us recommended his favorite, which was kind and made us feel as he was attentive. He then brought the cheesecake out to us, and it was probably the best I've ever tasted. There are vegan options, a wide selection of cheesecakes in the case at any given time, they do a nice job plating your slice, and they have coffee and tea to offer along with it. I had the peanut butter chocolate cheesecake and it was to die for - literally, after trying to make my way through the entire big slice, its richness came over me in a big wave of sugar coma goodness and I thought I was going to pass out. But I guess, anything you're willing to eat yourself sick for must be good? The only possible downsides, that I can see, are that they aren't licensed, and only have cupcakes as a cheesecake alternative. All I've got to say is: NOM. I had my first cheesecake here recently. Chocolate raspberry was the flavour of the day for their vegan selection, and there was one slice left THANK GOODNESS. I had no idea dairy-free dessert could taste so good. It was lovely. The decor was lovely. The staff were lovely. Mike's cheesecake (triple berry I believe?) was good too. The prices were what one would expect at a specialty dessert place. Plus they have Pop Shoppe pop! We were looking for a place to grab dessert before a movie on date night. We'd been less than impressed with some other dessert places, but Sweet Hereafter did not disappoint. I'm not sure how I overlooked it for so long, but it is now firmly on the radar screen. The understated exterior doesn't do justice to the funky decor and the tasty treats that lie within. We shared a chocolate chip cheesecake and a strawberry banana cheesecake, and both were excellent. Great hot chocolate too. Like others, my only complaints would be the lack of a liquor license (we had to go elsewhere for a drink after) and the fact that $25 for dessert and drinks for two people is a bit on the pricy end But the service was excellent, and the staff take obvious pride in their product.
