I've been hearing great things about Sweet Bay's breakfasts, although I haven't had the chance to check 'em out early in the day yet. I did meet a friend here for lunch last week and we thought it was just ok. She got their chicken sandwich and I got the turkey club. For sides she got the fries and I got a side salad. We each split our sandwiches in half and shared with each other. The flavor on the chicken sandwich was good, but the piece of chicken was super small. It kinda got lost in the bun! The fries were excellent though. The turkey club was the better of the two sandwiches, although if I'd known it was served with shredded lettuce (as was the chicken sandwich) I would have chosen something else. Shredded lettuce feels more like something they serve at the elementary school cafeteria than in a restaurant. My side salad was good, though. I really enjoyed the simple dressing of olive oil and lemon. What brought the experience down was the incredibly slow service. From waiting to order, to our food taking forever, to a crazy long wait for our check, the entire lunch took much longer than it needed to (well over an hour). So delicious!! Classic Eggs Benedict were great. Ham and eggs were very well executed and absolutely the best homemade English muffin ever - which so many places get wrong. Not too bready - perfectly toasted. Could have used more hollandaise, which I couldn't really taste and is usually the most important part. I would've asked for more if server had ever come back to our table once food was delivered. Alas, they did not. Only reason it's not 5 stars. Bloody Marys were fantastic. Star was probably husband's biscuits and gravy. That gravy was PHENOMENAL and the biscuits were excellent. Overall - service could definitely use improvement but host was very helpful, food was fantastic, ambience was fun, and hats off to the talented chef! read more

I ordered the croque madame, which comes with a sunny-side egg on top. After eating part of it, I broke into the egg and noticed something gelatinous on top. I scraped it off with my knife and found it was a big glob of completely uncooked egg white. It was honestly one of the grossest things I've experienced at a restaurant. I sent the dish back, and to the waitress's credit, she was professional and offered to replace it. But I was so grossed out that I didn't want another one. The bigger problem was how management handled it. Instead of comping the dish, they initially gave only a 20% discount. When I questioned it, the manager said that because I had eaten about half, they'd only give me 50% off and that I should have had it replaced. That completely missed the point. Once you find something that disgusting in your food, you're not exactly eager for round two. The waitress was fine, but the manager's response made a bad experience worse. read more

First time here after hearing a lot about it. Came for breakfast on a Saturday, around 11. I was expecting there to be more people, but was surprised only two other tables were taken. Seated quickly, got water and menus . Waitress took awhile to come by. Ordered an eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy, and a diner breakfast. Also a blueberry pastry. Pastry came quickly. It was good. Not $6.50 good. Got our breakfast. Food was nice and filling. It hit the spot but wasn't anything special. Appreciate that the eggs on the Benedict were runny. Hash browns tasted good. For not having anyone there, service was spotty. I think the main downside was the prices. One of us was going to order a soda, but saw the $6.00 price tag and stuck with water. It's been a long time since ive been this disappointed in a meal but wow was it the worst sandwich and salad ive probably ever had..and for 18 dollars none the less b4 tip. It was so dry I ordered extra mayo and horseradish which was not extra at all on the sandwich... the meat as like two slices the ratio was way off.. ill post the photos to prove it. We have been several times and service ranges from very good to mediocre. Parking is really hard to find for wheelchair users and there's no handicap spot. We went in today and was told we would need to wait a few minutes for a table.... Only 3 tables were taken and they wanted us to wait till one cleared out!They didn't even wash the table before we sat down. Ordered a matcha and it took 15 minutes to get it and quite a while for our meal. There were 3 girls working and seemed to not be in much of a hurry for service. Our food sat in the window while the server stood there with her back to it and chatted with a guy eating where they prep condiments. The server did not know if there were any beverage specials, nor did she go and ( another table also asked). They also need to update the menu including more information of their dishes. Under sandwiches, one just says chicken... when asked, it's fried chicken, no sandwich. The turkey club was not traditional in any way. They melted cheese on the side of bread and was so crusty, it was cutting into my gums... the turkey was a thin slice of turkey breast seared vs, sliced deli. After the experience, not going to make the effort of driving around till we find parking accommodating a wheelchair. read more

Visited Sweet Bay Cafe while in town for a wedding! The interior of the restaurant was so cute and cozy, but could still fit several tables. We were seated right away and quickly ordered the Diner Breakfast and the Spicy Scramble. They were exactly what you would want on a weekend morning. The hashbrowns were the best thing. Cute restaurant with a calm vibe in a historic building with historic photos on the walls. Plenty of parking but this restaurant filled quickly on a Saturday morning. It was my friend's second visit and my first. I ordered the Spicy Mocha Guava Mimosa and the Chicken and Pancakes with spicy syrup, asked for extra syrup it was addictive! All of it was delicious, but I needed to take half of it home and they gave me a to go of spicy syrup! My friend had the Eggs Benedict w/ a coffee and a Bloody Mary, said it was perfect. Service was prompt and sweet, got two bottles of cold water delivered without asking, which seems to be rare. Food was served hot. Accommodations were graciously provided. Service is happy and attentive. The food is amazing! I had the monte cristo with turkey instead of ham - it was decadent and flavorful. I really appreciated that they grilled the turkey prior to adding to the sandwich, it was lovely touch. The mixed green salad was crisp and refreshing. All hash browns start out the same...the difference is how they are cooked and how they are seasoned. These were some of the best I've had. They were crispy on top and bottom, yet not overcooked; the seasoning was perfect! Get the sourdough toast , it is very good. I considered giving it a 4 rating as it was freezing in the restaurant. Great place, my wife and I have had two meals there. The first was breakfast, she had eggs Benedict and loved it, I had the Diner breakfast with pancakes, it was so delicious. Both our breakfasts were prepared perfectly. We liked the place so much we came back the next day for lunch. Again we had a wonderful meal. She had the BLT and I had the smash burger with fries. Everything was delicious, the fries were fresh and piping hot. The burger was juicy and tender. We both loved the way they prepare their breads. The toast for breakfast and the BLT were lightly toasted on the griddle with butter, same for the burger bun. I have to say that our experience for both meals couldn't have been better. The service was excellent, we had different servers and each were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very clean, quiet and relaxed. I had the chicken and pancakes and my husband had the Montecristo sandwich. Neither one of us really cared for our food. On the sandwich, the French toast portion was soggy, and the ham was just too thick cut. For me, the pancakes were completely without flavor. I mean, none whatsoever. They also lose points for a Mrs. Butterworth's type of syrup, as opposed to pure maple, chicken thighs, instead of chicken, breasts, and high fructose, corn syrup ketchup. Yeah, these are fairly minor, but it's the little things that really make a restaurant special. The service was great -- friendly, and efficient. We love the decor in the vibe. Thought yhe wait quite intense, I was well worth it in the end, the food was very much yummy, though it was a wee bit above my budget, my 9-5 at mc donalds makes it hard to pay for this kinda ordeal. But it didnt help my wallet when I brought my sister and my ginger. There was a baby that kept kicking my sister but it was fine because it was a cute baby. I enjoyed the Croque Madame, not seen anywhere else in Bellingham. Sauce was a little mustard forward and bread was tough to cut, but very large portion with generous ham. Came with side salad. Husband had chicken biscuit. Prices reasonable for breakfast in Bellingham. Light and open space. Seated at coffee bar so able to watch very efficient staff serve coffee and alcoholic drinks.
