Still 5 stars! We love this pie shop and the lovely owner!!! Last time we were here was March 14...just before the state closed down because of Covid-19. We finally made it back for a second visit today!!! I called yesterday and ordered the pies I wanted. This is a very small shop and she closes at noon on Saturday, I wasn't taking any chances of her being out of what we wanted before we took the hour ride to the pie shop. I ordered a total of 5 pies. I ordered a French meat pie, a Guinness beef pie, a chourico pie and a Portuguese roast pie (I wasn't sure what that is, but willing to try), I ordered them all frozen and ready to cook (they're in my freezer). Last time we tried the Guinness beef and French meat pies and they were both excellent! I also ordered a Bumbleberry pie which is a mixture of berries and it was delicious last time when we tried it. She had everything ready for us when we arrived this morning. The sweet pie was $11. and the savory pies were $12. each. Sweet As Pie makes great pies. You should check them out! read more

Almost wrecked my Thanksgiving. Spoke to the owner the week before Thanksgiving to place a pie order. She commented that they are not taking orders that it will be first come first serve at 8 AM on Thanksgiving. She also complained that she was a single baker and was considering leaving the business . I showed up at Thanksgiving morning at 7 AM to beat the crowd. There was no crowd the store was closed. A sign on the door, handwritten, said that pies were available on Wednesday and they will be closed on Thanksgiving. Talk about being screwed. I was unable to find a bakery that had any inventory, or actually even open on Thanksgiving. It took a drive to Cambridge, to modern pastry, to get the holiday dessert. I call "Sweet as Pie" PIE HEAVEN...it's my "Go TO" when I need/desire comfort food. Or, a gift for one of my friends for ANY occasion. My favorites are: small chicken w/o veggies and small chocolate cream...I've equally enjoyed several dinner pies: French meat, chourico, salmon, guiness/ beef, turkey and shepherd's pie. ALL fruit pies, cheese cakes, specialty breads made with fresh blueberries and corn are simply the "best" I've ever had. I've heard good things about Sweet as Pie, so when I received a coupon for a free pie it was the perfect excuse for my first visit. It's located in a bit of an awkwardly placed building in the center of Somerset, but there is plenty of parking on the side. Not all pies are available every day, but the menu is so large there is bound to be something you'd like. I was in search of a dinner pie as I was too lazy to cook and ended up with the chicken pot pie. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and gave me heating instructions for later. This is a fabulous shop. We were visiting friends who had bought the blueberry-peach pie for us to sample. The crust was flaky and cooked all the way through and the filling was just juicy enough to mix with the ice cream. So when we heard there were also SAVORY pies, we tore over there. It's little more than a storefront with a listing of the daily specials. The list of dinner pies included the regional traditional French Meat pie, but also available were the shepherd's pie, steak and Guinness pie, chorico and peppers pie, chicken and/or beef pot pie, and a beef stew pie. We settled on the beef stew pie, took it home and wow--a winner! Technically perfect, good flaky crust completely baked through. Filling was ample but not overstuffed, and the pieces kept their wedge shape integrity. It served three hearty appetites and one lucky person will get the leftovers. The pricing was fair, but no credit cards. Bring cash. Buy this woman's pies. You'll be very happy that you did. read more

Better than homemade! I was on the hunt for pie to serve at my wedding instead of cake. I searched about 10+ bakeries from Brockton mass to providence and everywhere in between. I myself bake pies so I was pretty picky. On the advice of a friend I tried sweet as pie in somerset. I told the owner my story and promised to tell her my taste test results good or bad. I took home an apple, peach raisin, strawberry rhubarb, and just peach. I brought them to my mother-in-laws where we had our tasting. I was sold at the first bite. I think her crust is even better than my nana's from my childhood memories! I called in the morning to tell her the good news. She baked me 25 pies fresh the day before the wedding (she even hand picked blackberries for me in an off the menu request) and they were all labeled and packed up when I went to pick them up. Everyone LOVED the pies and had multiple pieces. I have since gotten savory pies from here including French meat, we are French Canadian and it's better than my moms! Tonight we had chorizo that was amazing and banana cream pie for dessert. I will forever be going here for dinner and holiday pies. It was my boyfriend's birthday and that morning he told me that he really wanted cheesecake to celebrate. I work from 8am-6pm daily in a lab where I can't use my phone, but I wanted to get him something more special than a grocery store cheesecake. I looked around online for bakeries in my area and ended up giving Sweet As Pie a call during my lunch break. The owner was very friendly and I told me what her cheesecake for the day was. When I told her I was looking to get one as a birthday gift, she apologized for not having more choices! I told her I would not be able to get to her store until after 6pm, which was when her bakery normally closed, and she said that she wouldn't mind keeping the store open until I got there! She put a cheesecake aside for me. When I arrived close to 7pm, she was there waiting and smiling and chatted with me while she wrapped the cheesecake box up in a bow. She doesn't accept cards, but luckily I had enough cash on me. I paid about $9 for a huge cheesecake. My boyfriend loved the cheesecake (it was chocolate-chip flavored, with real cookie and fudge on top) and it lasted us the whole week, since it was so big. I have two words for you: SAVORY PIES. Sweet as Pie is one woman, who recently retired from nursing to focus full-time on her pie business. It used to run out of her house, tucked on a side street near my in-laws, where it was the best-kept secret in Somerset; but I don't think it'll be a secret very long now that she has a storefront on County St. And it's well-deserved: these pies are AMAZING. I recommend the Beef & Guinness pie, which is even better than it sounds: the crust is flaky, thick, moist, and a little bit sweet, balancing out the rich flavors of the (big) chunks of beef. It makes an easy lunch or dinner (you just heat it up in the oven) and serves 3-4 people, at $8. One family friend says she buys it weekly, and I bet my in-laws will start doing the same. The sweet pies are just as good. We've tried the strawberry rhubarb, banana cream, and coconut (with nuts and pineapple!), all of which rely on her spectacular crust and fresh, well-balanced flavoring. If you time it right you can get them hot! I haven't tried the cheesecake yet, so I can't recommend it with the same enthusiasm; I'll report back if I do. She doesn't have every pie on every day, but given the staggeringly expansive menu -- the savory pie offerings include bison, chourico, and quahog (which will be the next I try) -- that shouldn't be a problem. Seriously, everyone in Somerset needs to know about this place. Support a new local independent business and get some outstanding pies: everyone wins! read more

My husband and I ordered 19 pies from Sweet as Pie for our 100-person vintage/rustic wedding and our guests could not stop talking about them! We ordered about 8 varieties from raisin pie to peach-blueberry to bumbleberry and they were all delicious! Many of my guests admitted to eating 3-4 slices of pie that night. This lady makes a Wonderful Apple Pie, just sweet enough with a nice salty flaky double pie crust. Nicely spiced but not overwhelming. We went in on a rainy afternoon for the first time. The apple pies weren't done baking yet, as we waited the 10 mins for pie perfection, the owner made us feel welcome and appreciated.The place is small but smells delicious, very homey feel to it. We also bought a few mini cold chocolate cream pies, also delicious! The whipped cream on top was light and fresh tasting. Good prices too, $10 for a nice big apple pie and $5 for minis.
