Great place for chocolates, fudge, sweets and more.....The staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions. I love their chocolates and their gift boxes. Prices are a bit higher but the quality is there. Sweenor's Chocolates started modestly more than 60 years ago as a home business in Cranston, Rhode Island. Schoolteacher Walter Sweenor had learned the trade from his father, who was a candy maker in Springfield, Mass., in the early 1900s. Looking to make extra money during World War II, Walter Sweenor started creating the sweets in his basement kitchen and, in 1955, opened the first retail shop, "Sweenor's Open Fire Candies" in Garden City, Rhode Island. While the commitment to creating the best confections remains the same, the business has grown. Sweenor's Chocolates is now Rhode Island's largest chocolate manufacturer, and is well-known for its quality products.

I really do love this place. I try to stay away because everything is just too too good. I stopped in because I wanted a little something for my daughter's 40th birthday. I was looking for just a little something to add on to her gift and make it special. I walked in and didn't even have a chance to look around this time. The sales person asked if she could help me and I told her I was looking for something for her birthday. She showed me a pop that was chocolate and said some thing like birthday on it. And then she showed me the other end of the price range which was a basket with one of those pops in it and other candies. I chose the basket and I was in and out of the store in under five minutes. That's pretty much the only way I can shop there and not go crazy.

One of my favorite chocolate shops ever. Every time there's a birthday, we stop here to grab some gifts for the lucky person. They even wrap the boxes for you and tie it with a bow. The chocolates and candies were always fresh and melts right in your mouth. It's a small shop in the busy Garden City plaza but there's plenty of parking available. I'd like to thank my husband for introducing this place to me. I lived in Cranston for over twenty years and never went there until a few years ago. This is Rhode Island's largest chocolate maker. They serve fudge, chocolate, and other sweets. It's family owned and being operated by the fourth generation. Their chocolates are fresh and the ingredients are top notch. Whenever I'm in town, this is one of the places I visit to get my chocolate fix. I always get a milk chocolate caramel or almond bar and a chocolate covered pretzel! They also make delicious chocolate covered Oreos. The customer service was always superb too. I highly recommend!

Warning!! Box of "raisins" actually peanuts! Could be life threatening! Sweenors refused to eradicate issue

Okay so let me start by saying sweenors DOES have some of the best tasting chocolate I have ever had. I especially love their milk chocolate covered nuts and fruit. I'm not much of a truffle person. They innovated and adapted during the covid pandemic by offering same day curbside pickup as well as delivery (during closure early in pandemic). The reason for the low star review is because on three different occasions now, myself and members of my family have purchased their boxed chocolate covered raisins only to discover that despite being labeled as such, were chocolate covered peanuts. We have a toddler in the family who is highly allergic to peanuts and even if his parents eat a peanut he is at risk. This was pretty alarming for the parents who immediately brought it to the clerks attention after discovering the peanuts 5 min after purchasing. While the clerk was apologetic, they barely said thank you and offered nothing to make amends. Weeks later, I purchased another box of choc covered raisins as a Christmas gift via online pickup. It was a mix of peanuts and raisins! Again, we informed the business and again we're met with sorry. Peanuts are a life threatening allergy and instead of removing the items from their shelves they continuing selling the questionable batch. Shame on sweenors. We Spend a lot of money there for every special occasion and will be thinking twice about that in the future. They are sacrificing a life threatening allergy on their customers over profit! Shameful!

Vanilla sea salt chocolates are to die for.... Available in milk and dark are the best I've tried so far.

What a top tier experience!…read more I ordered online to build my own truffle box which was amazing, affordably priced, and convenient for my boo for Valentine's! We made it a group trip, in drabby outfits and even though we were in sweatpants and sweatshirts we received top tier service. The staff was so helpful and knowledgeable. The store itself is SO CUTE and the truffles were amazing!! The raspberry truffles and the cherry cordials were mind blowing, and they gift wrapped the chocolates beautifully. We will be back!

There are walls and tables and cases full of chocolates of all shapes and fillings, and some store-made goodies like sour patch people too. Pre-packaged boxes, a counter where we can select our own chocolates to fill a box in whatever size we choose, a special Rhode Island themed corner (maps of RI, sea shells, sailboats, lollipops, etc), holiday selections, and cards to go with your gift. I grabbed a few Halloween peanut butter pumpkins that had been marked down this week. The store is amazing! Service was a bit slow (the person who waited on us was clearly proud of the product and happy to wait on us, but was just a bit slow moving at the register). The chocolate is very very tasty. My only complaint is that the peppermint patties had too much yummy dark chocolate for the filling - things didn't melt in my mouth at the same rate - lol. I didn't expect that the sour patch people to be as good as the name brand version but I thought they were actually better, and that says a LOT since those things are a major food group in my house! And, oops, no pictures from this visit because I was too busy running around collecting things I needed to buy and try! I WILL return, and soon.
