I've been to the Johnston Sundaes location several times so I'll start with the positives: There are lots of choices on the menu and the portion size is good. However, the customer service during our most recent visit, which was our first visit of the season, was surprisingly rude, which leaves me wondering if something at Sundaes has changed, hence the two star review. We brought a group of 12 here on Friday night, 5/15/26 at about 7:15 and the employee who took our orders was polite and wrote everything down. We paid for our order all together. It wasn;t very busy when we arrived, but it took quite a while, nearly 10 minutes, for us to receive the first of the 12 ice creams, and then the rest of the order came out little by little. By the time we left, there was a line of about a dozen people. When my ice cream was ready, it didn't have the sprinkles I had ordered. I asked if sprinkles could be put on, and rather than simply adding sprinkles, the employee (manager?), went and checked the paper order, stated that sprinkles weren't written down and that she would have to charge me for the sprinkles. I asked about it again, citing our order was large ($88), and couldn't they just put the sprinkles on that they forgot to include. She replied repeatedly stating that doing that would be against company policy. Hmmmm....... Really? If that's the case, Sundae's policy is pretty poor. This exchange of words left me with a very bad feeling, but as I was with a large group including several kids, I didn't press it any further. Why in the world would a company refuse something that costs pennies to the business, instead making the customer go through the trouble of cashing out again, especially when it was the business' mistake? More ice creams from our order continued to come out at a very slow pace. One ice cream was made with the wrong flavors, and one was forgotten and by the time we received it, most of the other people in our party had already finished eating. At some point as we waited for our ice creams the "manager" called out to me to ask if I wanted rainbow or chocolate sprinkles (I guess the company policy had changed?), but at that point it was too late, she had already set the tone. While the ice cream at Sundaes is fine, I would strongly suggest that the owner of this business provide training to their staff on customer service, and how refusing to honor a request for forgotten sprinkles without incurring a new charge can lose a customer (or in our case a large group of customers) for a long time. Also, the wait time needs to be speeded up. Maybe more staff is needed? With so many other ice cream places within a short drive of Sundae's. I doubt that we'll be back given our most recent experience here. Moose Trackers in Scituate, Gigi's Scoops in Smithfield, or The Parlor Creamery in Cranston are all great places and will get our business the next time our group goes out for ice cream. read more

Ok so I been sleeping on this place! I had a designated ice cream spot I go to out of habit and comfort. Bf decided to take me here instead and woah, their flavor offerings and options in general were a big YASSS for me. So many flavors to choose from for hard serve, toppings, soft serve (super impressive offerings here!), dole whip, cone options, sundaes, and milkshakes! They even have ice cream cakes you can order! I had the strawberry cheesecake in a sugar cone with mini chocolate chips and WOW I was in heaven!! Will be coming back for that! The scoop filled me up for a kiddie size being only $4.95. My bf got the coffee cookie dough chip for a small cost $5 and it was 2 big ole scoops in a waffle cone. You legit can't beat this serving for the price!! Came to $13 and change for the both of us. Now I can see why the line is so long here at times when I drove by. It can take a bit to get your order as there were only 2 windows. They have 3 picnic tables to sit and a small indoor area as well. Can't wait to come back and try a new flavor. read more

Very good ice cream! They have a ton of cool flavors in soft serve and hard ice cream, so there's something for everyone! The servers were super helpful in giving feedback on some flavors. It seems like a classic ice cream shop! They have a few tables set up along the side of the parking lot and some tables inside. This place used to be one of our favorites unfortunately they have very bad customer service very small portions and very overpriced I requested my ice cream to be in a cone I bought two cones one for me one for my granddaughter I got her a kitty size why is it my medium was the same size as the kids size and I paid $12 for two soft serve ice cream cones the girl gave it to me in a dish I already told her I asked for in a cone she said no I clearly said a dish and I obviously I did not and when I had a remake it it was a problem finally I said why is my medium the same size as the kitty small she had no response to this and I refunded my medium and only got back $5 if someone could please make this make sense or better yet take your business to bomb smoothie right across the street they have incredible service Great values have a great summer everyone read more

I have been coming to sundaes for years! The prices are reasonable and they have indoor and outdoor seating. They have a-lot of different soft and hard serve flavors. They added quite a few new things to the menu this year too! The staff is all young and sweet, they work pretty fast as well. The atmosphere is clean and decorated with cow prints and ice cream pictures and it's just very colorful! Love it here! read more

I went to the Johnston, RI location. There is limited parking spots since they took out some of the parking to queue for ice cream. There are some picnic tables outside and I saw some seats inside. Sundaes is one of my top childhood favorite icecream spots. I came on a warm Monday night and the line was steady but service was quick. It is a walk up service and grab and go. The outside is painted with cow prints and a couple of picnic tables to enjoy your treat outside. They also have indoor seating but you have to order outside. The only reason why I'm not giving it a 5 Star is because it is not homemade ice-cream. I always get a kiddie size which is one scoop. Their scoops are always consistent and pretty generous. They have a wide variety of flavors between soft serve, hard serve, and frozen yogurt. read more

They have really good ice cream. Always have. My son likes the blueberry soft serve. I love their flavor: "Graham Central Station" and I'm pretty sure this flavor is from Warwick ice cream- but not 100%, I know Warwick Ice Cream makes this flavor and it's absolutely delicious & my absolute favorite! Add some caramel & whipped cream and it's PERFECTION! Also they give you large portions! 2 scoops is more like 4! But I'm not complaining! Delicious! It's also reasonably priced & not too expensive, like some of these nouveau riche places that open up out of nowhere and it costs $20+ for "gourmet" ice cream. My favorite part about the location is that we can bike here from the Blackstone Valley Bike Path! It's like a 6 minute (round trip) detour from the trail! Very Convenient!! My son and I typically go for a bike ride and at the end we bike here for a sweet treat! Customer Setvice/Staff is ok- mostly younger/high school aged kids & they typically don't go out of their way for the customer but it depends on who you get, but literally nobody in recent years- really stands out here... if they added some outdoor sitting areas & cleaned the interior up (it's looked the same since I was a kid- and it's very outdated), it could be a great little spot, I would love to see an old school style " Ice Cream Parlor" with 50s/60s decor/style & Juxeboxes, milkshakes, cabinets, etc., that would be amazing! I also feel like every time I go here the bathroom is always "out of order". For now it's still good ice cream, and you typically just order at the outdoor window & you can still eat inside (I believe) but there are no longer outdoor tables. The ice cream was good, but for $12 the portions were lacking. We got there almost 30 minutes before 9. We double checked the time (didn't know it took 30 minutes to scoop ice cream). Two girls were making ice cream and taking orders. One girl was in the back cleaning and honestly just sitting on her phone. If she had been helping then the line would've been a lot faster. When it was our turn to go up it was a little after 9:00. Apparently waiting for 30 minutes doesn't justify getting caramel and cocoa pebbles. One of the girls taking the orders was going to give me the topping (I am 7 months pregnant and worked all day and when I got out of work all I wanted was cheesecake soft serve with caramel and cocoa pebbles (quite literally cried from how bad I craved it)). Then the girl who was not helping with orders at all came in the window with the BIGGEST attitude and was just so blatantly rude. If I wasn't exhausted from being heavily pregnant and working all day I would've probably addressed it. So I left with ice cream I didn't even really want and I'm out $12 and the service wasn't even good. If she wasn't rude I wouldn't have cared, but $12 for 1. half the portion than usual 2. waiting 30 minutes for a singular scoop of ice cream (they were not even that busy) 3. and to top it all off how rude she was I am the LAST person to comment on customer service because I usually brush it off if negative, but the attitude she had actually made me not even want the ice cream anymore. read more

Great ice cream, great flavours, great workers. Quick and easy and sizable amount of flavours and toppings. I personally get mint chip with Oreo pieces and whip cream but I've also had coffee, bubblegum, cotton candy, cookies and cream, and all the basics all very tasteful. Shakes are great and banana splits are great (get all toppings on the split trust me). Non food wise parking lot is a little small (most likely won't be trouble), building looks great. They have so many options for flavors. You can get 2 different flavors in a small which is what I usually do. I'm giving this 3 stars because I have no complaints about the food. Our problem is that the place is so gross inside we won't be back. There's picnic tables inside with these very worn out plastic table cloths that were hanging to the floor so you're stepping on them, they were sticky and dirty - just sticking to your arms the whole time, and the ceilings/walls haven't been cleaned in what looks like years. I have never seen a ceiling so covered in dust, one of the ducts right in the middle had rings around it like the vent just coughed up layers of dust. The walls around the edges have some kind of grime and rust oozing from the ceiling, I don't know what could be causing so much rust like that inside but I couldn't stop staring at that and the dusty ceiling fans, caked up dusty air vents, and the dirty/damaged drop ceiling tiles just peeling away. On one hand it was very hot today and we were relieved to see we could eat inside air conditioned since there's no shade or anywhere to sit outside there. On the other hand now that we've been inside we won't eat there again. This place is usually packed out with little parking. Any driver passing by will be intrigued by its crowds. They have a vast selection with a myriad of choices of toppings. Their hard ice cream is better quality than their soft serve. The problem is I'm a soft serve kinda guy. Their soft serve is not kept at a proper temp. It's not smooth or creamy - you can taste/ feel the grittiness to it. I had what would be there "blizzard". They had generous toppings and their servings were plentiful. I'm lucky enough to live within a mile of this ice cream heaven. They do a brisk summertime business and the parking lot can be a bit of a challenge, at times. But the variety is worth the trouble. There are a million flavors of both hard and soft ice cream, as well as the usual sundae options and toppings. They have a fat free, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free option, too!!! If you are a cone snob, rest easy - They have a nice variety, including traditional sugar and wafer cones or big waffle cones. And the sizes are generous - I can barely make it thru a small cone. You can sit inside and enjoy your treat in the AC or sit on a picnic table outside, where there are a few kiddie rides (the coin operated kind). They lack a scenic setting, so it's not exactly destination ice cream..... but it's good!!! The staff is usually friendly and helpful, although I have had occasion to witness some cavorting with friends while the other staff singlehandedly took on a line of customers..... Ahhh... Sundaes! Always staffed by high school students who, although they would rather be spending their summer vacation at the beach, are always smiley and friendly, even at closing time. Unlike the Sundaes on Oaklawn Ave, this location has a large indoor seating area, so its a safe pick to satiate those rainy day dairy cravings. I like the black raspberry choc chip hard yogurt with low-fat hot fudge. take that, cheat meal! They also have regular soft-serve, a decent selection of hard ice cream and "Önly 8" super low-cal froyo for maintaining that bikini body all summer long. They do accepts cards but bring some cash for the tip jar - these kids definitely work for it! read more

After living just down the road from here for the past two years, I finally decided to drop in, enticed and intrigued by the Best of Rhode Island (RI Monthly) sign and my love of ice cream. First, I need to give a shout out to the name. Ice cream parlors/stands/etc. often have uncreative names that are perpetually reused. Sundaes is definitely a new one for me. Now on to the ice cream! Sundaes has a large list of hard ice cream, some of which are your old favorites and some you have never heard before. If you cannot find your favorite flavor here, you don't have one. They also have a few flavors of soft serve. You can get your ice cream of choice in a range of different cones, dipped, or covered in jimmies. There is seating inside, but why would you sit inside when there are tables outside, as well? The parking lot is often crowded and spots are narrow. While there is usually a line to order, it doesn't take long to make your way through it. The cashiers are not particularly friendly but not unfriendly either. The biggest downfall I find with Sundaes, other than the parking lot, is the prices. I find that it is a bit pricey. Will that stop me from returning? No, I have to earn a free ice cream with my frequency card. read more

The best place to enjoy so many hard serve or soft serve ice cream flavors with lots of toppings! There are options for those looking for non dairy, too. Love, love, love going here. The only downside to this location is they're only open from April till October. We've been going here since they opened back in 2002 and always have a great experience, whether it be soft or hard ice cream. On hot, muggy nights, it can get crowded both in the parking lot and inside, but its worth the wait, they have generous portions and its always creamy.
