Unfortunately, todays visit did not even deserve one star. I ordered a banana split and got a bowl of warm soup covered in whipped cream. In ten years i've given only maybe 4 bad reviews. The girl tried to explain it off as it was a hot day and all the ice cream was soft. To top it off when I got my refund it was incorrect. just one of those days. Was very excited to try this ice cream shop out! I didn't feel up to my usual sundae, and asked if they had milkshakes. Forgot that in Rhode Island they call milkshakes "frappes". Ordered my vanilla frappe and upon getting it, I saw how liquidy it looked. They gave me a boba tea straw with it which seemed odd, but made sense because milkshakes are usually thick. It took me a second to fit the straw in the cup because the cup wasn't made for a boba straw. The first taste was off-putting. It had a weird taste and didn't taste like a regular milkshake. I was a bit disappointed, but will try this place again and see if their ice cream is better. Also they don't take credit cards, so remember to bring cash! read more

I used love Sunshine Creamery. It was our place to go for ice cream. Last year they couldn't make a strawberry sundae correctly, they added hot fudge to it. It was given back and reordered and again it had hot fudge. This summer we wanted to give it another try. The strawberry sundae included hit fudge again. Sunshine Creamery is a cute little ice cream place in East Providence (er... Rumford?) with a pretty big menu, friendly staff and outdoor seating. I'm a big fan of their cherry dip cone. Vanilla ice cream, sugar cone, dipped in that hard cherry shell. They don't skimp on ice cream, almost to the point of OMG TOO MUCH! If I had a complaint it's that their sugar-free selection is lacking. Last time we went there was only coffee and some pecan flavor. Vanilla would be cool. Sunshine creamery is a nice option for ice cream close to the east side of providence (just over henderson bridge) and east prov. It is nice somerset creamery or grays but it does the trick without the driving. They have a nice selection of flavors, which I believe are made somewhere else, with a friendly staff and reasonable prices. They give good sized portions as well. The one complaint is that the seating can be a bit dark at night and you are literally sitting on the roadside in one of the two sections. It can also get crowded at peak times, but that was a good sign last I checked. read more

This place has been a summer time fixture in East Providence for as long as I can remember and it seems like over the years its tough to find a place with better prices and a wider selection of flavors. They have at least 25+ ice cream flavors (for example: mint oreo, red velvet cake and almond joy) to go along with a handful of low fat yogurt, no sugar added and sherbet options. On a recent visit we ordered a cup of the coffee heath bar yogurt and one of the chocolate peanut cup. They give you two generous scoops for a small sized dish and both were so creamy and tasty and hard to beat at a price of roughly $6 total. Places like this make life worth living! Why take three weeks off from work and drive around the whole country trying to take in the "American Experience"? Because when you get back home you realize how much of it is right under your nose if you only stop the bus and get off. This place is like summer under glass. When the June bugs are out, you find 10,000 of them in the screens at the order window. Now the Katydids are signing and they have the ones with perfect pitch. When you want mosquitos, they have them in spades. All those things you think about when you sit in the backyard and either marvel at the season or curse it for these tiny annoyances - or better yet, tiny reminders of the season. I travel a lot for business and in the summer I love to experience the same things the locals do. Everytime I do get out, I am reminded of the simple yet fulfiling things we have in Lil' Rhody. This is just the place to do it. From the used car lot flags fluttering under the cheap lights to the tired picnic tables on the side, foks we got what everyone else gots but it's only 10 minutes away! My reason for the five star rating is the simple vanilla sundae. Perfect in proportion and balance. I eat a lot of these honies from the Maine Coast to Baton Rouge and this one is as good as they get. This is a hometown, roadside stand, with roadside prices. Have I had better - yes but I paid through the nose and in the end I was not more satisfied, just less flush. Besides, I have found not better way to defuse the 7.8 magnitude argument with the boss than driving over for a little taste of sunshine. read more
