Many of the employees were assisting customers so I just took the liberty to start trying on different glasses in the mirror. After about 10 minutes or so I did find a free employee to ask about pricing and such. He was helpful, assisted me with other frame suggestions, and provided me with all the information I needed. Their prices are quite reasonable as well which I really did like.

I came here today for an eye exam, it was my first time here but it's where my husband goes and he…read morerecommends it. I used to see an ophthalmologist in Birmingham, but our insurance doesn't cover it and it's a little bit far of a drive now for me anyways. I have a condition where my eyes are cone-shaped; because of that, Visionworks recommended me going to a specialist. If I constantly have to go to this place and the specialist, I probably will not go to this place, but we'll see. I thought the eye exam was thorough and well done. Our insurance covers $300 for frames so I ordered some new glasses, my current ones are probably five years old or older so I definitely need a new pair. I was already in the area so I arrived for my appointment a bit early. My husband arrived five or 10 minutes late one time and they turned him away so be aware that they are pretty punctual. My guess is because I think they just have the one doctor for eye exams. They had a nice selection of glasses as well, if you're looking to get new glasses. I would return to this location, but I will admit I missed my old ophthalmologist and the nice waiting room, etc.

When I arrived to pick up the glasses there were people waiting for their appointments that they were waiting for, for almost half an hour. Dr. Levin was incredibly patient and answered all of my questions in detail, making sure I was comfortable with my decisions and also making sure I understood the best contacts for my eyes and how to properly use and maintain them. The clinic staff was also amazing as they taught me how to put in and remove the contacts, keep them clean, and keep my eyes healthy. No matter how many questions I had, it was always clear to me that my health and comfort was the most important thing to everyone I worked with in the office. I tried two different brands of lenses and then Dr. Levin re-examined my eyes to ensure everything looked good. I am so happy with my choice and so grateful that Dr. Levin cares so deeply about his patients and their comfort.

Note: I went to this clinic after not being able to reach my prior eye doctor. My goal of coming to…read morethis doctor was to get an exam to see if my vision had changed since early in the pandemic, to get new glasses because my old ones, while working great, were a bit beat up, and to get an updated contact lens prescription because those prescriptions expire (far too quickly in my opinion). Beginning with the callous way Dr. Levin informed me of the tragic passing of my previous eye doctor (hence why I couldn't reach my prior doc), I probably should have guessed this experience wasn't going to be great. I was shocked and visibly upset (we loved our previous doctor; he was a young family man gone far too soon). Dr. Levin's demeanor was awful and lacked empathy, especially in a snide comment about my deceased prior doc's approach to my vision correction. Even beyond that, his approach was incredibly off putting and paternalistic. And he did not listen to me when I asked explicitly for what I needed, including no interest in correcting a very minor astigmatism that was never corrected before and has never affected my vision. When the lens came, they were far too strong. I could not read with them (as I can with my prior prescription from years previous; my prescription has been very stable). New lens were ordered. These were better but not ideal. I asked repeatedly (prior to the new lenses) to just replicate my old prescription since it worked so well for me - I work on a computer or reading all day, I'm not a sniper, I don't need 20/15 distance vision at the expense of not being able to read up close. And I've never needed readers, as I can read and work perfectly without glasses on. For now, the glasses I ended up with are ok, but I still have trouble reading and just take my glasses off. I feel that I was trying to be upsold for progressives or a second set of glasses for reading, but again, I have never needed them in the past (my old glasses are on my face as I type this and work exactly as I need them to). Meanwhile, I was trying contact lens trials at the same time, to zero in on that prescription. This also did not go well. First, I was corrected for the minor astigmatism that I explicitly said was never an issue and was never corrected for previously (hence, his snide comments about my previous doctor "missing it"). Second, I could not read at all with the new contact lenses - everything was a blurry mess. And as they're in my eyes, I can't take them off to quickly read. I tried two other trials, each time explaining exactly what I needed, and never got the lenses I needed. The last set are still blurry while reading or using a computer, but I can see read a road sign an extra 1/2 mile away! Completely unnecessary. This was over a six month period, delayed because I have a busy schedule. I'm writing today out of frustration (they'll STILL taking up my time). Today, I called again to maybe finalize the issue, to check if the prescription of my ok-but-not-perfect glasses could simply be replicated in my contact prescription. It was rudely explained that the "glasses and contact prescriptions are never the same, because one touches the eye and the other doesn't". It went on. I get it! I didn't need to be talk to like a child. I'm not versed in your jargon, but I think you know what I meant - regardless of prescription, I want contacts that work like my glasses. The patient should not be held to the same technical standard as a co-worker in the industry. Pedantic and rude! This final conversation was via a returned call. The caller began by telling me they were dismissing my case (assuming also dismissing me as a patient) and mailing my final (not correct) prescription to me. Much of the conversation is detailed in the above paragraph. I will never return to this office, nor will I recommend it to anyone. I train young people who are learning to become healthcare providers. I would be mortified to know that any of them would act in their future practices the way Dr. Levin (or the technical staff) acted with me. Thankfully, my previous doctor's practice has been purchased and reopened, and I hope that I can return there when my next appointment comes around. In the meantime, I'll muddle through with these less-than-ideal glasses and contacts until my insurance is available to try again. Likely, I'll just continue to use my glasses prescription from years ago!

If you've…read morehad a really good one and have to find a replacement you know how easy it is to end up in a bad situation with a new doctor or dentist. We've been fortunate so far in finding new doctors & a dentist since our move to Livonia. I would certainly consider myself fortunate for finding Marston Optometry. The previous reviewers all have it correct in stating how awesome this practice is. From the front desk staff, to the technician, to the optometrist, to the optician this place has exceeded my expectations. I have gotten to the place where I needed reading glasses and after researching a number of different places I chose Marston and am very glad I did. They were able to schedule an appointment that was convenient for me and wasn't several weeks out. I was greeted quickly and warmly by Carroll upon arriving and was only waiting a matter of a few minutes till Yolanda, optometric technician, came to get me. Yolanda explained every step in the process and seemed to genuinely love her job. Soon after Yolanda was finished, the doctor came in and completed my exam. No where in the process did the doctor try to sell me any products or embellish the results of my exam in order to up-sell me any unnecessary glasses. She was honest and explained everything in detail. After the exam, I was escorted to Mindy, optician, to discuss my options regarding reading glasses. I was concerned that this would now be the chance for them to try and sell me overpriced, unnecessary items. However, Mindy was very pleasant & helpful and not once tried to sell me anything or talk me into buying anything. She answered all of my questions and laid out all of my options without putting on the hard sell. I explained to Mindy that I was travelling out of the country for a couple of weeks and was hoping to get my glasses before I left. My request was rather challenging because this was only 1.5 weeks before I was scheduled to fly out. Nonetheless, Mindy told me that she works with several different labs and had one that she was confident could expedite my glasses. The Wednesday-Thursday before I was scheduled to fly out was when "Snowmageddon" hit SE Michigan, and I was concerned that this would delay my glasses. It was a pleasant surprise when Mindy called me to reassure me that my glasses should still be ready by Friday. In spite of the terrible weather Mindy called me Friday morning to let me know my glasses were in and could be picked up. Wow! So many businesses had closed die to the weather, yet the staff at Marston were still taking care of their patients. The staff at Marston has taken great care of me and I would highly recommend this practice to anyone that may need an optometrist.

I've had a few small problems with them, including pricing issues and communication issues, but I was willing to overlook them. However, the last straw for me was at my most recent eye exam. During some routine tests, the tech sat me in a chair in a darkened room, explained the upcoming test to me, then nonchalantly told me that the test would be an additional $45 charge, without giving me an alternative or the option to reject the test. However, I interrupted her and told her that I wanted to reject the test. The tech then said that I would need to have my eyes dilated if I rejected the test, and I agreed to that. Then, she handed me a form and told me that I needed to read it, as I was sitting in the dark without my contacts in or my eyeglasses on, in order to reject the test and opt for dilation. Later, when we returned to the exam room, I was asked to sign the form, again, without my contacts or glasses. It seems to me that asking a patient to read and sign a consent form without their contacts or glasses, in a dark room, is ethically dubious. It also seems like really shady sales practices to make a test with an additional $45 charge the default, when a no-cost alternative is also available. I don't think I can trust Suburban Eye Care to have my best interest in mind after an experience like this. I sent this feedback to Suburban Eye Care soon after my negative experience and received no response from anybody at the practice, so it seems clear that my concerns are not important to them.
