This place is amazing!!! The facility is super clean, the staff and teachers are very professional! My child entered the beginner class, unsure of the water and not feeling safe. After several classes he gained a new confidence and can swim under water now! The teachers are very hands on and will go with the pace of the student. They never force anyone to do things they are not comfortable with. They communicate beautifully to the student every step of the way! Very bad experience. All 4 of us in the family used to go there but stopped because of lack of value we used to get there. The curriculum is pretty random with no clear path and keeps changing very often. The good teachers also keep leaving and with the new and untrained ones coming in , the student is stuck in a class forever with no clarity as to when they will move to next level with no fault of theirs. Students of different levels are kept in same class with the teacher not sure about which level to focus on with each kid. And to top it all , it's a pricey place with a whacky makeup class policy and the front desk folks are very rude and unprofessional while handling the customer requests. read more

Facility is good. The curriculum and lessons are nice. They focus on teaching students the right technique. But we had issues with billing and class enrollment. Twice we were charged for classes which either did not happen (holiday) or were canceled (pool closure). We had to haggle with front desk to get our money back. And some people at front desk aren't very cooperative, sometimes they give non-sense excuses, like 'Sir, at this point we cannot do anything' (this is for a refund). Also, after moving to advanced level, my kid went on 1 month vacation. After we came back, they put her back in the intermediate level class, although she was waitlisted for an advanced level class. Front desk again wasn't very cooperative is fixing that - instead of accepting their mistake, they gave some non-sense argument, and did not refund for the class which my kid wasn't supposed to attend. So overall the school is good, but front desk's attitude and billing practices can be improved. read more

My son has severe sensory issues and was extremely afraid of the water! I brought him and they were extremely patient with him. He now loves the water and is a little dolphin swimming! This place is great, my 9 year old son loves it! The staff are really sweet and helpful, and great with all the kids. The swim instructors are very kind, knowledgeable, and supportive. The facilities are great, the water is warm and there are showers for before and after swimming. There's a nice viewing area for parents so that we can watch our children swim. A lot of parents fart a lot in the viewingarea, though, so sometimes it's like a half an hour of me bathing in other people's farts while my son hones his swim skills. But that's not Sutton Swim's fault! Over all, great place. read more

Great place for children and adults to learn swimming at different levels. Really like how the teachers make sure to take time with getting the basics right, early on without rushing. One request would be to send reminders once a while during the cold/flu seasons to not bring in kids with cold and cough - I feel things spread easily in the confines of the pool. We have had two boys going through the school in recent years, one of which completed it reaching the golden ribbon and being introduced to pre-competitive swimming. We started with the school since it was located in Cupertino at a home-based operation, so we had a chance to see the school develop over the years. And what a development is has been!! Paula and Earl are awesome owners and manage everything really professionally, starting with the choice of excellent teachers, who are very competent, detail oriented and make feel kids of any age welcome and taken care of. The staff also made any kind of effort to accommodate schedule issues, and proving us with regular reports on our children progress. The current facility is state of the art and has a lot of great features. We do recommend Sutton Swimming School to all our best friends, with no hesitation! read more

My daughter who was a student here had just started puberty so this caused her to miss a weekend a month (as any mother would know, it is taking her a while to adjust to this new life change) The rules are kids are allowed to have 1 make up session per semester. Fair enough. As a new mom of a child going through puberty I am also learning to deal with things like this that are unfortunate and out of my hands. Come December, we had a sudden death in my family. So not only did we miss the first Saturday but the second one as well due to my family having to deal with the death of my sister. My daughter was extremely distraught over the death as they were very close and she decided she did not want to continue with swimming any longer. I then called the office to say that my daughter would no longer continue in January as a student there. I asked the person I spoke to if there was any way to get a refund on my December payment since my daughter would not have any classes in December (they closed for the holiday as well) The woman was rude and did not even inquire any information from me as to why my daughter would not continue. Simply said no. I was already dealing with a lot so I did not push it further. I later received an email from Krista asking why my daughter would not be continuing as a student. I went on to explain to Krista about the repetitive of the class (you can see this because there's a section for parents to watch the kids during the lessons) but more importantly about how my daughter is going through puberty and needs to miss class so I'm technically paying for 3 classes a month and also about how my sister had just passed so our family is going through a lot right now and I'm a single mom so the little bit of money helps a great deal especially around the holidays. (The money would have helped with funeral expenses.)Assuming I am speaking to Krista who I know there and have spoken to on many occasions and has always been very helpful and kind. I received a response back from someone named Heather who stated that the students are taught something repetitively until they master it. Which makes sense but I don't understand the advancement from beginner to intermediate if she was just going to learn the same thing.Then she said that all women go through puberty and it's not their fault and there are other things my 11 year old can use and that the teachers there go through the same thing every month and are in the water for hours a day and have no problem. She then went on to tell me that she spoke to the person I spoke to on the phone and that I did not tell that person that my sister had died and if I said that she could have worked something out with me as far as a refund. I replied back (mind you I was STUNNED at this reply) stating that I understand that there are other ways my daughter can deal with her puberty and still come to class however as I stated my daughter had JUST started it and is still just learning to deal with it and it is against my culture and beliefs to teach her other means this early in age. I felt offended that she was telling me how to raise my daughter and what things to teach her to use. I don't know if she's a parent or not but this should be taken into consideration. She then proceeded to tell me she spoke to the person I spoke to over the phone who stated that I did not tell her that my sister had died and "our policy with refunds is to say no unless a good reason is given." I dont know if she has ever dealt with a death in her family but I was not asked for a reason and I was definitely not going to blurt out "my sister died" unless asked which I was not asked for a reason. After she states this I would assume she would proceed with my refund or that someone would reach out to me regarding this since she did state "for a good reason" and I did give her my reason now. But nothing. I never heard from them again. I simply told this school my daughter would no longer be a student and I WAS ASKED for my reason for "improvement in the future" but instead of taking in my feedback for improvement and growing from it, I was instead made to feel like I was in the wrong and that my problems were simply that, my problems. Please don't ask for feedback if your going to use someone's personal issue and throw it back in their face. Just don't even bother replying. There is no point. Krista was great. She deserves a raise. Or a job somewhere else where the staff matches her customer service. Take your kids somewhere else. I'd give them no stars if I could but I guess the 1 star is for Krista. Your paying $120 for 4 days a month. 30 minutes a day. 4 kids with 1 instructor dividing the 30 minutes between these 4 kids. That's 8 minutes. 32 minutes a month. 24 minutes if your a girl just starting puberty. Thanks again Krista. read more

I would rated 0 star if there was an option, the support staff very rude. They never offer make up class. The keep changing the policies the way they want. Please don't go to this swim school. My daughter has been taking swim lessons here since she was a baby. The staff are all friendly and helpful, and the facilities are very clean. There is plenty of space in the changing room, which is also kept warm for chilly kids drying off. Lots of benches for parents to sit and watch their kids on as well. Highly recommend. read more

We love Sutton School!!! We had originally started at a different swim school 11 years ago when my daughter was 4 months. I wasn't that impressed, so decided to try Sutton when it was in Cupertino. I loved everything about Sutton - the staff, the separate observation deck for parents, the instructors and more. So now all 3 of my kids take lessons at Sutton. Such professional and nice staff!! Great online website to view your account, search for different time slots, etc. They are also so gracious to offer makeup sessions too if you miss a scheduled date. I recommend Sutton to all my friends that even my neighbor signed up her two boys!! read more

Sutton has the most ridiculous policies I have ever encountered. I gave a 15 day written notice to withdrawal my child from one of two weekly classes and Sutton is insisting that I pay for the entire month (5 lessons)! They don't "refund" credit cards and supposedly charges them on the first of the month...which is strange considering my card statement shows that they charged me before the 1st of the month. There are many other places that teach swimming with equally well trained staff and facilities, there is nothing special about Sutton. I recommend anyone needing swim lessons to look elsewhere and save themselves the headache. read more

Inconsistent application of "policy". Once when my child moved from one level to another I was told they will call me to confirm new class timings for the next level. When my child moved up to the next level, I assumed they would do the same. Nobody called. So I called them 30 minutes before the scheduled time and they kept me on the phone for 20 - 25 minutes offering various options. Eventually when I selected one, they said, as per our "policy" we can only move you to this class starting next week. BTW, sorry you missed your class this week. Could they not have told me this at the beginning of the call, when I had enough time to make it to class? Front desk staff is not at all customer friendly. My two sons have been going to Sutton for about a month now and it's been a wonderful experience. The staff is helpful and polite and provide amazing customer service. Most importantly, the teachers are great. Ricky, my 2 year old's teacher, was super patient and allowed my older son to join the lesson to help my 2 year old relax. And my older son, who has been afraid of going under water for years, is now excited to go under water and looks forward to every class. Swim in throw up/poo water or half your fee for day is forfeit. I spoke to Greg after they closed the pool after a kid had an accident. I was told Sutton was not obligated to give you a make up lesson, but rather would just credit half a lesson. Further he said our only way not to lose half our 22$ daily fee was to have our kid swim in the recently dirtied water for 15 mins of the 30 min lesson. If you want to reschedule to another day you lose half your fee. What really irritated me was Greg insisted getting only a half credit was a "Courtesy" to us. When I said it was not a courtesy, he kept insisting it was. read more

We have loved our experience at Sutton. We have been with Sutton for over 6 years with 3 different kids. We drive from Sunnyvale even now that we have a longer drive because we love their methods, their teachers and their facility. The teachers and staff are very warm and personable. The facility is roomy, clean, and conveniently set up, allowing for parents and siblings to watch classes through window from an indoor observation area. Also, as a competitive swimmer, I really believe in the way Sutton teaches swim technique. They focus on safety first, and then on body position, not adding in arm and leg strokes until body position is established. They never use flotation devices to help kids float, so swimmers learn to put their bodies in the correct position for floating on their own. They teach body rotation and rotary breathing early so that kids don't develop bad body position from using pop-up breaths. They also teach full-body dolphin kick instead of restricting it to the legs, as some schools do. read more

This school has good instructors but poor policy and management. No consideration for real life situations/ emergencies.. You pay upfront for the whole month (4-5 classes) that's understandable. ( although not very typical for swim lessons) . There should be some are arrangement for make up classes ( atleast 1 or 2) with such an inflexible pay upfront option.. You miss 1 or 2 classes a month you loose all your money. Real life and things happen people !! Oh! I called 24 hour ago told them I am not feeling well and will be missing a class. People with kids go look for more flexible option for your kids. Even others too... Unless this school make some smart choices for customers. read more

My son has been swimming here for almost 2 years, starting from baby classes. He liked the baby classes, especially with Melody and Jason S. Now my son is 3 y.o., and he loves water. He is always happy after classes in the Sutton Swim School. This is a clean place, the swimming pool's water is warm. Jason S. and Simon are great, positive and professional guys. Just, in my opinion, the rate 4:1 could be reduced to 3:1 maximum, so children be busier with swimming and have less time to be bored sitting on the steps. Thank you for your job! read more

My kid was switched classes/teacher's without notice and have lost interest in swimming. Also, I had noticed in the past that my kid was not progressing or doing a very slow progress on his overall swim lessons, and to some extent I feel that they are looking at how much classes or revenue a kid had brought in before they recommend them to the next level rather than helping them progress well and move them to the next level automatically. They don't offer any make up classes as well. Overall other parents also shared a similar progressing issue as well. On the above said situations, when we question them, they talk to you like you go deal with it, rather than trying to help or take necessary steps. I have seen a considerable amount of improvement in my daughters since they started classes with her! I don't understand some of the reviews at the below. Upon registering your child to this swim school you are informed of the policies pretty clearly. I am a nanny for one of the babies that swim here on Wednesdays. Now I do not come here often as the parents usually swim with their baby but this facility is pretty clean, organized, and has a friendly staff. After a few weeks she no longer cries in the water and actually loves it. Our instructor, Andrew, is VERY knowledgeable and good with the kids. He's also not bad on the eyes ;). The pricing here is pretty fair compared to other places. I highly recommend sending your child here to learn how to swim! read more
