I love this pool. I am a disabled senior citizen crippled with arthritis and this therapeutic pool helps me work out my pain and strengthen myself at the same time.The pool is heated to 92 degrees which is what the arthritis society recommends. There are shared swim lanes, water walking lanes, aerobic water classes, water weights, a deep end, a shallow kiddie area. There is a men and a women's change area and showers plus a family shower, lockers. They also have a weight room, physical therapy, basketball, land and water aerobics, zoom, and yoga. read more

This review is just for Timpany Swim Lessons (not Sharky's swim school which is also run out of the center). Some reviewers may be misled by Khristine's review from May, 2010 regarding swim lessons. Be aware, there are 2 swim schools run out of the Timpany Center, Sharkie's swim school and then the Timpany center itself sponsors swim lessons. This review is for the Timpany-sponsored lessons only. We signed our son up for swim lessons and this is our 3rd try (we tried DACA at age 3, Club One at age 4 which we liked but was booked), and now Timpany Center. Our son just turned 5 and is finally READY for swim lessons so that helps a lot. His instructor Brian, a college kid I assume, many instructors are from SJSU, is awesome. He is very laid back, friendly, and fun. The kids really respond to him and he is the only instructor to get my kid to actually put his face in the water, etc. We are only going into week 3 of lessons but I can already tell they will be successful compared to past attempts! The pool is very warm which helps with the younger kids and the locker rooms are clean and functional. I highly recommend this as an alternative to the higher priced programs out there. Sharkie's is also reasonable priced and run out of the same pool and we may try that in the future as well for more flexible times if needed. read more

This place saved my life. There are water wheelchairs available and a wheelchair ramp to get into both the swimming pool and the hot tub. Additionally, the pool is heated to nearly body temperature which is very therapeutic for my tight muscles. The gym is excellent, especially for me, because all of the equipment is adaptable for wheelchairs so I can pull up to any machine and start exercising immediately. All of the amenities offered at this facility is very unique and special as there is no other place in the Bay Area like it. The class is offered at the Timpany Center, I do adaptive martial arts, sit and fit, and chair yoga, you are incredibly beneficial. The staff is amazing and knowledgeable. My son has been taking lessons here for almost a year and we love it!! He began taking lessons at SCSC shortly after he turned one, but he wasn't doing well, mostly because of the water temperature. The Timpany Center staff is wonderful (Pamela has been his only instructor) and his class size has never been more than 3. My son has always loved the water, but wasn't enjoying swim lessons until we started classes here. The water temperature is great (almost too warm), the wade-in pool is ideal for little ones, and the relaxed atmosphere makes learning fun. Will will continue to take lessons at the Timpany Center and will also sign our youngest son up for classes when he is old enough. read more

First time here and accompanied a family member for a swim class. The place is very conducive for first time swimmers. There are lots of teachers who teach babies as well as younger kids how to kick, dive and put their head under water. There are 3 lanes for swimming and plenty of room in the pool for kids and their parents. There are chairs, benches and hooks around the pool for parents to watch and for items to be hung. As an Aqua Zumba instructor other Aqua programs, I can say that I have never found such an awesome atmosphere filled with loving wonderful people. A wide variety of ages, disabilities, and attitudes are just the many reasons why I love this place. My time there is one I cherish and look forward to. I read some of the reviews from more than a year ago and thought to provide some of my own perspectives since I spend 3 days out of the week teaching there. Please revisit this place and leave what your prior thoughts were behind and come once again with an open mind. The greatest secret in Santa Clara County! I've been coming here since 1983 for various issues: 3 back surgeries, 6 rotator cuff surgeries, leg tumor, broken leg, cracked hip, etc., etc., and each time the Therapists and warm water therapy and the fantastic back, joint, arthritis and exercise classes after I felt stronger have left me moving for nearly 70 years! I used to really like this place but the rude attitude of the staff an lifeguards is a turn off. We used to be able to swim with our kids after their lesson for 10 minutes then that went away. Now apparently it is all about money if my son wants to go in before his lesson he has to pay. They also gave my husband a wrist band (he paid) and it was the wrong color and the lifeguard was upset and went in to change it. While this was being sorted out she was technically on the swim deck but not looking at the pool so i dont see how much "lifeguarding" was going on in the water. I watch the lifeguards intereupt lessons to talk to the teachers so that just takes time out of kids swim time. I wouldn't be here if i didn't love my coach and even that might not be enough to keep me. But i am sure that in 2 weeks they will have all new rules that they might or might not enforce for a few weeks with a vengence and then abandon (again). read more

My wife and her friend went here for swim practice couple of times last month. Of the lanes available, only one was open for swimmers. Few were already there and they chased my wife and friend out. Lifeguard suggested to practice in the 3ft area. Ladies who were there for exercises told them that 3ft is not for swimming. So practically it was a waste of time and money. If there is not enough lanes available, they shouldn't take money and admit to the pool. Not going back ever. read more

My elderly father was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, the doctor prescribed PT in the warm water pool at Timpany Center. My dad was apprehensive, however the first therapy session in the pool was a huge success and he looks forward to future sessions. The therapists are excellent. This place is great. Perfect for the person who wants to just be in the water and exercise, swim, walk, deep water exercise or rehab. The majority of the pool is 4' deep, so even if you can't swim you can still use the pool. The pool is so warm and very comfortable. Finish off the workout with a dip in the jacuzzi. read more

Although it says it's in willow glen I don't think so since san Jose city college and valley medical center are west (and this is across the street next to bascom) but anyway my kids have adapted swim lessons and the teachers are great. I go to Timpany to swim. The locker rooms are clean and functional- they have locker rooms for women, men and families. The pool/office staff is nice and the warm water is great for aching joints and muscles. I swim at the "adult swim" times for lap swimming and the other swimmers are very good at sharing the lane. Most adults walk rather than swim laps and there are more lanes for them. I asked for flags so that when swimming on your back you have something to see, and within 2 weeks they put one up. It would be all 5 except for a few negatives that I will get into. I went here for about 6 weeks after having a knee surgery. Pool work was the ONLY cardio I could do for the first few months. I am a fitness instructor so I can be a bit picky about the classes I take. Quite frankly, I thought I would just kind of be "meh" about it. I was surprised. I took the Tues 11 am class from Dr. Jenn. The class was really well paced, and she knows her stuff. She also makes it fun and it really is about what you put into it. Sure there were ladies chit chatting about their grandson's Bar Mitzvah, but Jenn just kept a smile on her face and good attitude even though ( as I well know) people talking when you are trying to teach a class is obnoxious. I also took the Friday 12:15 class but only once. That class was great too. The only reason for the minus one star is that, two times in one month it was closed when I went to take a class due to power outages.. I know that things happen, but that bummed me out.. also, the locker rooms got pretty rank. There were always wads of hair in the drains, on the pipes.. it was pretty sketchy. But, all in all. If you are looking for a way back from an injury, or simply to add water workouts to your life.. this place is pretty great. I also love that they work with special needs people. Having a child who is autistic myself, nothing would make me smile bigger than seeing a group of special needs young adults having the time of their lives. What a treat. read more

We have 2 kids who look forward to their lessons at Timpany Center. Brian and Jeremy have been their instructors so far, and they are great! We put our kids thru swim lessons at various schools, and were about to give up after multiple crying sessions. A friend recommended Timpany and we signed up with skepticism. The pool area is fantastic and the locker rooms are clean. BUT the swim instructor for children leaves alot to be desired unless you are a hot mom in the baby and me class OR have the cutest kid. But if you happen to have a child who is fearful of the water well, be ready for comments like "stop acting like a baby" and "you're fine" when clearly a screaming child is not fine! read more

We started my daughter at the center a couple months ago. Once re enrollment began I never got an email stating what day to enroll so I missed it twice. After the second time I had had enough because nobody would accommodate us with an appropriate time. Nights don't work during the week obviously due to our work schedules.
