I was wary about the negative reviews but we live very close to this place so decided to sign up and so far I only have positive things to say. Indoor poor is very clean and I like the instructors and their teaching methods. I recommend instructor Adriana. I've sent my child to 2 other swim lesson places and this place had been the best. He was traumatized by the swim classes at Rancho Rinconada taught by literal high schoolers. Large waiting area with seating to watch your kids. Plenty of showers for after class. read more

We first started coming when my son was around 1.5 yrs. We were doing the parent/child swim class. Covid hit, they closed and we stopped attending. About a year ago we signed back up. There are a few things that I wish were different. Because the group classes are 3 kids to 1 instructor, each kid is only getting about 10 minutes of working time. The rest of the time they are sitting in the steps while the instructor works with the other kids. Secondly, it does seem like the instructor turn around is high. My son has gone through 3 instructors in as many months. It also would be helpful if we knew when/how often they are tested for advancement. I initially thought it was once a month, but I don't think that's the case. If they tested the last week of the month on a monthly basis would be nice. Third, and the one that bugs me the most is they don't enforce their "No shoes on the pool deck" policy. It's a great rule, but not great if it's not enforced. Every class parents come into the shower area with their street shoes on. I'm sorry, but for the safety of the kids (and adults adhering to the policy) shoes should be taken off. It is so gross to imagine what is in the bottom of their shoes and my kid and I are walking all over that in wet, bare feet. And it's not like people don't know or that the signs are hidden. The signs are posted on the door leading to the shower and pool area. Other than that, the instructors are nice, but for the price it's a little steep, especially if I'm paying for 30 minutes and only getting 10 minutes of instructional time. I've had such a great experience at Sutton! My kiddo has been here for over a year. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and know how to build confidence in the water. BE WARNED - DO NOT GO HERE!!! I want to warn any new prospective parents about this swim school. I read many similar comments from other reviewers and have experienced the same issues. We attended this school for 4-5 years and because this was our first and only swim school at that time did not realize that the swim school policies are designed to maximize profit by minimizing the learning that the students do (e.g. teaching one element of swimming but never putting it all together). I spent $15,000 at this swim school doing a mix of group and mostly private lessons and my son never learned to swim properly. I switched to a different swim school and was blown away by the speed of learning. Three months after he left my son is now in pre-competitive swimming and I am just grateful that I finally realized what a terrible place Sutton is and switched. I also want to mention like many other reviewers that the administration staff is terrible. During covid I was asked to convert my paid funds into makeup classes to make up lessons to help support the business. I agreed to it and never got my lessons worth over $1,000. read more

Huge Disappointment - Don't Bother! My daughter has been attending this swim school since she was 3 (now 6), and after three years of weekly lessons, she's learned NOTHING. I was shocked to find out that due to poor teacher communication, she wasn't even tested for progress! They never mentioned anything about refunding or compensating us for the wasted time and money. Be careful about unethical practices at Sutton Swimming Classes !! Staff here is really not cooperatives also they don't have any ethics about telling their customers when they join about all their policies like I was never told their makeup classes will expire after 6 months. I had 6 makeup classes when I asked them to schedule makeup classes then only first time they tell told me hey you only have 3 classes 2 are expired and 1 we don't have in our record even when I tried to call them also receptionist confirmed about my call when I came for next class. Also they never send any reminders for your classes going to expire. This is very unethical and unprofessional practice that you don't let ur customers know about ur policy. I was not asking for any free classes it was my hard earned money which I paid to them now they declined to provide the classes and taken my money. The good reviews do not match my experience and those of others I know. Extremely rude staff. You will know what I mean from the very moment you walk in and try to talk to them. No clear policy, (which is what others also indicated in their reviews), but they have your credit card so... Small pool and they are not the cleanest inside or outside the pool. Okay no sugar coating, they are plain dirty. We missed classes due to infection FROM THEIR POOL at least twice and guess what, no make up. No real swimming training. You will be paying $60+ for half an hour of basically just having your kid in water and hoping you don't end up going to ER. There is a good reason their enrollment is shrinking. read more

BE CAREFUL! Makeup classes are NOT provided! You get a makeup class once a quarter. Which means if your child happens to be sick more often, you get to choose. Either losing money or sending the child with symptoms. There is no option to notice about an absence in advance. They should have establish a system with waiting list for make up classes. If someone cancels, the class should be offered to next in line. They are located in the Silicon Valley, but failing to provide an automated solution. My little girl attends here! The staff is so friendly, when we made an appt for a class tryout, my daughter saw she had a male teacher which she automatically was not pleased. She said "I want a girl teacher" We went to the front desk, the lady accommodated my little girls request. Now, my daughter has a female teacher, Ms.Caitlin. My little girl liked her very much, now she looks forward to do her weekly classes. Price is reasonable , small class so the teacher is able to be one on one with the kids. We are able to see our daughter do her thing in class. To see her smile, give us the thumbs up and participate so well. Bring great satisfaction to us as parents! I have two daughters attending Sutton Swim School, ages 8 & 4. Before joining, my older daughter was terrified of going under water. With the help of her instructor, she overcame her fear after just one lesson, in fact she couldn't get enough of under water swimming after that day. Now she's a fish and absolutely LOVES to swim. My youngest was (and still is) a little more of a challenge. In addition to her fear of water in the face, she is very shy and is not comfortable around new people. She wouldn't even get in the water her first day. On her third visit I threw in the towel and asked to cancel her membership. One of the staff, Krista, offered to personally get her in the water and work with her one-on-one for a bit to get her more comfortable. I took her up on the offer and now she seems a lot more comfortable in the water as well as with her instructors. Her progress is much slower than her sister's but I'm happy she's progressing none the less. Overall, I've had a great experience and would definitely recommend Sutton Swim School. read more

I would like to thank Paula for finally returning my phone call after multiple days; only to suggest that Sutton wasn't a right fit for us. For some reason I was sold on this place because of a friends recommendation, but it turns out it wasn't the place for us. We do not want our daughters growth in the water to be limited by her age. Meaning, Sutton strict age = advancement is simply a tactic to slow a child's pace and milk parents dry. Besides, how could I be assured that you could even tailer the class to meet her advanced level when your staff has already shown an incompetence in scheduling a proper evaluation of my daughters skill level. Instead, scheduling us for a 30 minute parent and me baby beginner class. I mean, seriously. That was just ridiculous. Especially after we had made a face to face introduction and were assured over the phone by your staff that our little swimmer was going to be properly evaluated and placed in a class that could continue to challenge her. Since, we were turned away we were lucky enough to find another school that checks all the boxes and has great customer service. read more

I am taking my daughter to sutton for last 4 years. The biggest issue i have seen is a slow pace of teaching. Also the teachers change too often. If you have a teacher who is learning on the job then the child gets 8 min attention within a 30 min span. No stars. This business is a standing proof that people should support community based learning centers. Their policies are fine tuned to take as much money as possible from customers. I re-enrolled my kids just to know that i had to pay 2 months fee from last year for which i have no communication about. They were still considerate to way off one month. My daughter has been doing swimming here for almost a year! And I have come across no issues. The front desk always makes us feel greeted! Thank you, y'all awesome for that! The pool, locker room, and shower area is always clean; along with the waiting area (btw, best part it's outside the swimming pool so no stuffiness!!! You can watch your kids swim while you sit in peace). They have WiFi, an area for kids (or adults) watch movies or read books. Also I have never had money issues here, or been double charged, or over charged unlike some other places my daughter has done activities at. Overall! Thank you! I guess the only suggestion I could make is maybe some communication between the teacher or some slip letting us know where the child stands in their swimming/ what they need to work on/ so forth. We have been coming to Sutton with our kids for 6 years now. We have two aged 7 and 3 and started them both as babies. We have been very happy with the instructors and staff and find them all to be friendly and helpful. My son literally idolized teacher David and teacher Nick. They are very specific in their instruction and as the kids get older they focus so much on technique ensuring they get the strokes right first. My older one is learning many of the strokes but in a very methodical way. Whenever we are around other families with kids, the parents comment and are impressed with our children's comfort in the water and skill level. My 4 y/o daughter has had an outstanding experience at Sutton Swim for nearly a year now. Incredible connections with the super friendly swim instructors, small class sizes. Great all around swim lesson experience for my daughter. She LOVES her swim lessons. There is a highly entertaining fish tank in the facility, which provides enjoyment for my younger daughter not yet in swim lessons. There is an algae eater suckermouth catfish in the tank, otherwise known as a Hypostomus Plecostomus. This isn't any old Plecostomus. This Plecostomus has been around the tank awhile. Weighing in at nearly 5.8 pounds and nearly 12" long, do not make eye contact with this Plecostomus. Have you ever seen the movie Good Fella's? I refer to this Plecostomus as Pauly, cause he doesn't move for anybody. He's not to be bothered. He has his spot in the tank, leave him be. He's not stuck, he's not dead, he's running the tank on his terms, fuggedaboutit. Those other fish steer clear as kids and parents look at this Plecostomus in amazement. "Worlds Largest Swim Lesson"? Yes, five stars. Top notch operation. Worlds largest Plecostomus? Also yes. The story of how this Plecostomus made its way to Sutton Swim is unknown, but the kids and parents are happy he's around. Could this Plecostomus be a mascot for Sutton Swim? No, that's just weird. Never seen a Plecostomus mascot though, that'd be a first... The instructors have all been great. I learn something different from each one. Great attitude, patience and they make learning enjoyable. Only problem is their policy if you need to miss a class. You can only have one makeup class a quarter. The default is to cancel the class and re-enroll, which puts you back on the waiting list and you end up with a different instructor. Also, 30 minutes is tough with 2 swimmers and 1 instructor. It takes so long to learn how to truly swim if you have only 15 minutes of instructor time per week. read more

My child got sick and because she missed a day already due to a family member accident. We have to pay for a class she can't attend. Also, time with the teacher is not equal between learners. If one learner needs more work, my child just hangs around at the end of the lane waiting. I timed it with a stopwatch and it was nearly double for the one kid. Good for them but not for us! We pay $25 for a 30 min lesson. (0.83 for every minute) My kids say they learned more in one 30 min private lesson at another pool than the many lessons they had combined at Sutton. read more

If you want your child to learn to swim different styles and be able to Join a swim team, this school is not for you. This school more suited for babies. My son was 5 when he came in the school in September. He was very comfortable in the water, could easily swim 12 yards, was starting to learn different styles ( in another school). After 4 months in Sutton swim school he regressed. All of these months, lesson by lesson I was watching the same things happening every time (learning getting out of the pool, floating, diving to retrieve hoops). With 4 children in the class, my child was just standing in the water or sitting on the side of the pool 3/4 of the time. At first the school appeared affordable, clean and well organized, but after all of these months I regret I did not discontinue these lessons earlier. No one told me about the cancellation policy and it's not even on their website. Tried the first trial with Paula, I told her he's been taking private lessons so he can swim well across the pool but not confident on the deeper end by himself. She assigned him to the first group class with Adriana today and I told her the same. However, he was kicking with the floaty dumbell on both arms so he was not kicking properly. I said he does not need that at all, but she said kids can not do the strokes or use arms so I knew this class is not for him. When I called to cancel over the phone, Lauren told to submit the cancellation form in person or email so I sent the email. No one answers the phone or respond to email cancellation confirmation. I sent my husband, he got Lauren on the phone she apologized for not giving the cancellation policy from the beginning. She also said we paid for June, therefore we can not get the money back for the next two lessons. This is crazy no wonder they do not deserve good reviews recently. They never explain what the lesson consists of in detail. We were under the impression that our child would learn the traditional swimming lessons we had learned growing up Ex: Arms, Legs, floating, jumping in etc. We were very wrong... After almost 4 months we had gone through 4 different instructors and each one had a different way of teaching our child! He was still only learning legs and floating. Still hadn't introduced the arms into the lesson at all! Every time we would ask a question about the next lesson or when would they teach Arms with Legs the people in the front would never give a definitive answer which was extremely frustrating. Finally we decided to end the lessons because it was 4 months of the exact same lesson repeated. Earl Sutton the owner of this business was rude and aggressive towards me and my children. My 6 year old boy needed to go to the bathroom after his swimming lesson. I took my boy to the boys room to help him put his swimsuit back and the owner "Earl" started yelling at me and screaming at my kids. He told me to get out!! Using aggressive hand gestures. Amidst all the bad reviews, I have to say that we are happy with Sutton Swim and the staffs. We enrolled our 6 months old baby for baby-parent class and she is enjoys her 30 mins lessons. No crying, no complaints, no whining. I also noticed a difference in her social skills, she loves being around little children, interacts more, play/splashing her hands in the water and smiling more when she's in the water. Coach Erin is great with her, very attentive and my baby learned how to "clap clap" and when we say yeeey, she knows it's something good and fun-- all that only for a month of swimming class. The facility is clean and have multiple changing stations, so you're not waiting or fighting for a changing station. Their staffs are helpful and informative. They do tell you about their rules at trial class if and when you miss a class and remind you again on the first day of the class. My baby missed one class because she had colds but one class is not the end of the world--- we intend to have her finish 8 sessions and come back again after she turns one. On another note, there is no assessment for my baby since my husband is with her and coach Erin give his feedback during class but I heard few coaches talk to parents that has older children give progress reports and coaches even demonstrates to parents, which is helpful especially to those that are visual. We are so happy to have found Sutton swim, I absolutely recommend them! read more
