This was my first time there, I took a Fitness and Balance group class. It was a good pace and the instructor, Jack L. was very nice and easy to follow. The facilities were clean and well laid out. I'm excited to try the e-circuit next week. One complaint is the app doesn't send your registered classes to your calendar, and is overall not as robust as it should be. I'd like to see it work with android watches, for instance. Also it doesn't connect to Google Fit or Samsung Health. Which is not great and I hope they fix that. The people were friendly, the class was good, and overall I was happy. I will be going back, but I am dithering on whether or not to take more classes or do the self lead stuff at my own pace. Indoor pool at this location, and Service Dogs are allowed.

Ask the Community - Southwest YMCA

Is there a super shallow end in the pool for young kids?

Is this place still open? It seems deserted during the day on the weekends ... used to be crowded pre-pandemic.

    Does this location offer childcare?

Yes - we offer on site care while you work out. For more information on hours, please contact 408-351-6400.

Do any of the locations have a outdoor workout area during pandemic? Classes And Machines?

Yes! All of our locations have equipment and classes outdoors!

Does this YMCA have an outdoor pool and/or hot tub with lounge chairs? Do any YMCA locations have this or can someone tell me options to have access to nice outdoor pool with lounging chairs?

This one is indoors. The Central YMCA on Alameda in SJ has an outdoor pool and hot tub.

Before this I was spending exactly the same amount of time doomscrolling on my phone per night. The staff are all absolute sweethearts, theyre always working and cleaning. The bathrooms are gross in ANY gym, it can get gnarly here but I've never had to do the big one here. You just need to accept that. Everybody says hi, the entire PF stigma around big lifting is completely unfounded for this location. I go 2-3 wheels on the big lifts and nobody cares, no stares, didn't set the alarm off. It makes noise when I rack it. Nobody has ever once spoke to me. I'm on week 7. It's only going to get bigger. The price is so cheap I've literally paid $26 to get a 3 plate deadlift which is the best ROI of any money I've spent. For the past 2 months I've belong to multiple gyms at the same time to feel them out. Not only do more expensive gyms have less equipment, that is maintained very poorly, or the entire place smells Indian as hell (absolute deal breaker 9000), but then you pay $60, it closes at ridiculous hours so youre dealing with a morning or after work stampede and I do not rushing or asking if someone is still using something because everybody has their own journey and they have a right to take their time and enjoy their privacy. So after my first two months of belonging to 4 gyms simultaneously for a trial week, PF is actually the winner (Anytime/24/Barbell/PF)

I thought that was very strange for a place you typically go to, to get healthier... I also thought it was comedic and amazing in it's own right. My neighbor also got in trouble for grunting when he was lifting weights. I dunno if they still have the no grunting rule, but it's kinda hard not to make noises sometimes when you workout. Not my style of gym because I need more space to stretch and do air karate, but it seems like a nice enough clean gym as long as you don't make a lot of noise while working out. The location is small meaning there are no showers. They have restrooms and a water station and a small instant coffee station. I prefer small classes and this place is super close to me so these issues are not a deal breaker for me. The staff are super nice. They try hard to build a community building new programs to support clients. They are helpful to show one on one how to correctly complete the movement. I don't know about pricing as this is the first time I have ever had to pay for a gym. They are flexible to pause your membership or modify whatever program you are in. I highly suggest to try at least one cardio and one strength classes before committing.

When I asked when it would finally be repaired, I received the same response I have been hearing for months: "Maybe in a week or two." I have been given this answer repeatedly for over four months, yet the steam room has never been fixed. The manager also told me that the club had already paid $20,000 to the company responsible for repairing the steam room. However, when I asked him when the company was scheduled to come and complete the repairs, he said he had no idea. Doesn't that sound absurd? If you paid a contractor $20,000, wouldn't you expect to know when they were going to show up and perform the work? It is difficult to believe that anyone would make such a significant payment without receiving a timeline or expected completion date. I asked him directly, "When you paid the repair company, didn't they tell you when they would be coming to fix the steam room?" His response was unconvincing, and his body language suggested that he was uncomfortable with the question. At that moment, I found it hard to believe the explanation I was being given. After hearing the same promises for more than four months with no progress and no clear answers, I am left questioning both the transparency and accountability of the management team. What was even more disappointing was the manager's attitude. In the middle of our conversation, without resolving my question, offering any explanation, or even apologizing for the inconvenience, he simply turned around and walked away, leaving me standing there. After this experience, I now understand why the employees at this location treat customers so poorly--their manager sets the same example. For anyone considering joining this gym, I strongly encourage you to think twice before making your decision.

There are just a couple of things I wish were better. First, I wish they had longer operating hours, especially on weekends. I actually ended up getting a second gym membership because I sometimes work out later in the evening when Crunch is already closed. The other downside is the restroom setup. They use shared (unisex) bathrooms, which isn't ideal. Since people shower there, the floors are often wet, and because there are only a few bathrooms, it can get crowded with lines--especially after group classes. I've learned to avoid peak hours because of that. Overall, it's a clean, modern gym with a great atmosphere, and the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. I've trained at a range of gyms including Lifetime, Equinox, and 24 Hour Fitness, so this is coming…read morefrom real comparison, not just a one-off experience. What's frustrating is that 24 actually has great equipment. In some locations, the machine selection is just as good as, or even better than, what you find at higher-end gyms. Meanwhile, you're paying $200+ a month at places like Equinox largely for fewer people and better cleanliness. And that's the gap. At 24, the issue isn't the equipment. It's the lack of consistent hygiene and accountability. You still run into people who don't wipe down machines, leave sweat behind, or treat the space like it's not shared. It breaks the experience, and it's exactly why people feel pushed to pay a premium elsewhere. There's a very clear opportunity here that could completely change the game: Implement and enforce a "no towel/bench barrier, no training" policy. This isn't about being overly strict. It's about creating a baseline standard. When people are required to use a towel as a barrier between themselves and the equipment: Sweat is contained instead of transferred directly onto benches and machines Cleanliness improves immediately and visibly Members become more mindful of shared space This is standard in many European gyms, and it works because it's enforced, not just suggested. From a business standpoint, it's also a win: Towel service memberships become more valuable Retail towel sales increase Equipment lasts longer due to less direct sweat exposure But the key is consistency. Staff should actively walk the floor, clean regularly, and reinforce the policy so it becomes part of the culture, not just a sign on the wall. Right now, 24 has the foundation to compete with premium gyms on experience, not just price. But without stronger standards around cleanliness and etiquette, it falls short. Fix that, and it's a completely different gym.
