First YMCA I've been to since I was a kid. Larger location. Can get pretty crowded especially at the typical workout times, especially the dumbbell room. That room is annoyingly small. They seem to offer a lot of classes, which is nice. Haven't tried yet. Abundance of cardio machines so those are easy to find. It's the weight lifting that can get annoying sometimes. I asked them to waive the monthly fee for January since I hadn't used the facility and because we've donated literally thousands of dollars to the YMCA over the years. I love the spirit of the Y! This holiday event today is exactly why I'm a proud Y member. This location has such thoughtful management and instructors. It's been my village, my tribe, since 2003, and especially so through the pandemic shutdown. I believe it's a flagship Y location - it's a bright and cheerful environment. I find the facilities to be clean & thoughtfully managed. The classes have warm welcoming, well trained instructors. There are many niche spaces for specific activities like stretching/weights/pilates... including a small room for boxing-ilk training. The gym is a wonderful multipurpose space for BBall, pickle ball, YBall, fitness classes, & various special events. Good array of treadmills, ellipticals, rowers, cycling machines - most are mindful of wait times. Free weights and machine weights can be busy weekday evenings but the crowds thin out after 7. I'm so disappointed signing up for this YMCA was a very difficult process. I had to go in three times in person and email them. The app is not user-friendly at all. I went in twice, trying to sign up for personal training and they never followed through with signing me up. I'm very disappointed and thinking of canceling my membership. El Camino YMCA this location is in Moutian View located off near Grant Rd. I have priorly utilized this YMCA locations for needs to showering needs for daily routine care only. I had utilized personal transporation for self traveling to YMCA as if I had been accompanied of any other person that I would as well have them check in. Front desk receptionist staff is friendly, and attentive caring to member needs and request. This location does have a childcare center, and close near hospital near by amenities for walkable distance to eateries as well. My YMCA account is for myself only. As my home residence location is of a non smoking non drug usage area of space inside, and all vehicles that is register in my name per location. Member inquire noted are added per my request is for safety, and all interactions of communication is primarily conducted in an English only. Love going to the Y with my LO! Their Kid's Club is awesome with caring staff. My 17-month old cried and looked for his mom for the first three weeks so I was a bit frustrated that I couldn't work out. But teachers were so patient with him, he stopped crying during his 4th week and now, he loves going to their Kid's Club! It's great to work out while keeping my LO entertained at the Kid's Club. read more

We love this Y. I have been member since 2018. Covid time was hard when I can't drop my kid off and use the gym/ pool / sauna. Now the kids club is back and I have been there since January 2022. I took my baby who was 4 month old at that time there and now she is 14 months. she has no problem spending 1.5 hours in kids club daily so my regular swimming / Sauna hour is back. If I am without kid I would prefer eagle park pool because it is deeper. But having kids and given that quality child care is expensive and hard to find, I just think this y's kid's club is amazing. They have more matured staff after covid. Azita and Laleh are amazing. They are resourceful. I do have to say separation anxiety ( usually starts at 7 month old and lasts to 2 y old ) is a big thing. so starting the baby early really helps to get that 1.5 h per day work. Because of the regular swimming I have more muscle than when I was 20 years ago. Having said how much I love it I do hope they can have their pre covid hour back, coffee machine back, towels back. The hour is a bit challenging in summer because on Saturday they close at 4 pm which is really early in May June and July. read more

Hours are pretty limited. There are days they close early specially on the weekends. The membership are expensive and design for older population. Equipment and the gym are clean and in good order. I just got my membership here a few weeks ago. Overall, I think this gym is pretty great. There are a wide variety of classes offered, and a YMCA app to help me find classes. The app even has a cool feature that allows me to add the classes to my phone's calendar. It also links directly to my Fitbit! I have only been in aqua aerobics-type classes so far, and I have really enjoyed being in their heated pool. It's a great incentive to actually go to class! There are a wide variety of machines to keep me interested, which says a lot because I get bored pretty easily. The environment feels much more inclusive than other gyms I have been to, with a more diverse clientele. This was pretty important to me when I joined, because I've been to those gyms where anyone larger than a size 0 gets the side eye. I haven't experienced that here. The staff for the most part is pretty helpful if I ever have any questions about anything -- no snobby gym experience here. I have just a few issues: My friends and family would be a lot more willing to sign up for memberships after their free trials if the monthly membership costs were actually posted on the website. People don't want to drive all the way to the YMCA to get some shady spiel where they feel obligated to buy. I have seen a rep from the Y commenting with a canned response to other Yelp reviewers who mention this, and I really hope that I don't receive the same canned comment on this. Let people know exactly what they're getting into. At least allow them to find out via email rather than having to drive there to find out. It just makes the organization look really sketchy. YMCA: what do you have to hide? The women's locker room is usually pretty clean, but the shower area ALWAYS smells horrific every time I walk past it to get to the exit to the pool. The equipment and weight areas don't even smell as bad as the women's showers do. Perhaps they could consider running a mop through that area more often. Again, these issues aren't enough to make me drop my membership, but if these issues were addressed (not just with some phony response from the person who manages their Yelp account,) then I would consider this gym a 5-Star experience. read more

I would like to say that I've been a member for years and love this place. Everyone is friendly and the place is well- cared for. It supports all ages of people and the staff accommodate all types of needs of all ages, which is unusual these days to find such a caring group of people, especially during Covid. They have gone out of their way to be careful. I swim and do boot camp and am always happy to have great instructors. I'm also fully vaxxed, following the rules of the Y and haven't been infected. We're around all of the same, caring members, so it feels like family to me. Everyone is looking out for everyone but still making it fun and a good workout. read more

I switched to this Y about a year ago, after hearing rave reviews from coworkers, and getting sick of the filth and crowded parking of 24 hour fitness. While membership at the Y costs three times what 24 hour fitness does, it's worth every nickel if you can afford it. The facility is very clean, people are friendly, the locker rooms are well taken care of, and the fitness floor is never unbearably crowded, even on weekday afternoons. Plus, instead of the unruly, profit-oriented, techno-music pumping, industrial, steroid-laced vibe of 24 hours--where I once interrupted a naked man shaving his head in the locker room--this place is primarily frequented by a diverse group of quiet retirees, well-behaved kids, and local upper middle class professionals. A safe, friendly, nonjudgmental vibe. I see they have lots of classes, camps, social programs, etc. I hear these are great, but have never participated in any of them, so can't attest directly to the quality. But my limited experience of this place is excellent and so I imagine these programs are of the same high quality. I would add a sixth star for the new on-demand coffee maker in the lobby. I have been going to this YMCA for a couple years now and for the most part, it's been great! I'd say the top pros are that the staff members are always super friendly, people at the gym are respectful, it's very clean, and it isn't too busy during peak hours to the point where you can't get your workout done. I also love that there is a view of Cuesta Park and that it's nice and bright (lit with some natural lighting during the day). Parking is also easy to find. My only con is the pricing. The price jump from Youth to Adult is about double what I currently pay, which has forced me to look for other gyms. read more

IGNORE THE BAD REVIEWS!! I've been a member as of December 2015 and I love it here! I almost didn't even check this place out after all the lame reviews. The front desk staff is beyond awesome they don't ration towels (as a previous yelper claims) and the staff is NOT rude. In fact, I lost my ID card within a week of signing up and they waived the $5 replacement fee. And regarding the lot always being full..I park at the end of the lot. Yes there's room and yes you'll have a longer walk to the gym. Imagine that! Someone's complaining about I walking an extra 30 seconds to get to a GYM! $insert face palm here$ The classes are fun and they blast the volume for Zumba which I love. They even have a QiGong class which is sweet! Wish they had an evening QiGong class too! Compared to the Cupertino YMCA (the one near Target and Apple I believe it's called NorthWest or something) this place is a GEM! There are always enough machines and I love how they're in rows and not a semi circle like the other Y. And the GORGEOUS VIEW in the workout area of the greenery and park is absolutely perfect. There seem to be a lot of people who have been going here for years!! There's a great sense of community here too. I tried the babysitting room a few times, the women there are extremely attentive and there even an outdoor play area. I don't use this service much as my baby is in daycare :) I suspect people don't give this place good Yelp reviews as they want to keep it a secret. I used to go to the Palo Alto YMCA and this one is much better. newer, brighter and more equipment. an outdoor pool too which is great. plenty of classes and open later than the PA YMCA. there's no sign up sheet needed for the cardio equipment because there are enough machines. it's a bit more high-tech than the PA Y too, you can scan your own card to get in and there's a nice big screen in the lobby that shows the class schedule but... more parking is needed. at peak times, you sometimes need to circle the lot a few times to find a space. some of the staff are downright rude. I've had a couple of interactions with staff in the gym which surprised me. I get it if you're busy and can't help with something, but there's no need to be rude. some of them really need to work on their people skills they've recently started rationing towels. huh? is this really a problem? why should the customers have to wait and ask the desk person for a towel? just put them out as you used to. anyone can ask for two towels and in all the years I've been going to YMCAs I've never seen anyone take three towels, so the number of people abusing the two-towel standard must be small. and so what if people need three towels? this is stupid but the worst thing is the men's showers. the smell is horrible. the water pressure alternates between low and very low. the water temperature is not consistent and turns from warm to cool and back arbitrarily. and it's never hot. I don't shower there anymore which is really inconvenient. read more

I have been a member of the YMCA for more than fifteen years and it still never ceases to amaze me. It has all the components of a world class gym: The equipment is top of the line, the classes are taught by incredible instructors, the personal trainers will help and motivate you, the locker rooms are clean (recently renovated), and there are massage therapy sessions for those who would like one. Please note that I am very passionate about fitness and have been to a lot of health clubs and gyms, so this review is saying A LOT. I would highly encourage anyone who has just moved to the Mountain View area who is looking to get back in shape (come on, let's be honest) to check out the El Camino YMCA or the local one near your area if you do not live closeby (the other ones are just as good). The amount of service and attention you get for your membership fee is absolutely incredible and I can promise that you will be satisfied. One more thing: If you are not rich enough to afford your own in-home gym, then you are not rich enough to act like the YMCA isn't high class enough for you. If you are the type of person that only likes the health clubs that charge a gazillion dollars for their membership fee, have scented candles near the free weights, and offer a million different spa options after your workout, then please stay away from here. You will only encounter non-pretentious, working, serious-about-exercising people at this gym that will only be irritated by you. read more

I love this YMCA. First, all the staff and managers (at least those working in the mornings) know me and greet me at the door. Second, they have some bad ass cardio equipment that you can burn hella calories on. Third, if you use their weights you can get buff. I like to use the cables for most of my workout. In the last 3 months I have tried calling the YMCA in Mountain View California. I wanted to find out their status at this time and how they were operating. Twice in that 3 month period did I speak with someone who took a reservation to workout in the basketball gym. The second time was when someone called me back, 3 days later. The problem is that the current phone systems that the YMCA Silicon Valley has decided to utilize a centralized phone system, located somewhere other than the clubs that we think we are calling. The phone is answered by an automatic system, and it says please hold for the next team member. Then soft music comes on for minutes, after which another automated voice comes on and tells you how to locate the website and asks you to go to YMCASV.org for faster service. It also says please your name and number and someone will get back to you as soon as it is possible. I left my last message on Sunday, September 19th, 2021. Still waiting for a call back. Not being able to speak to the facility to which you are a member is absurd, especially considering that the alternative phone situation is no alternative at all. When I bring this up to Staff at the El Camino Y, they tell me, we don't have phones here. I'm like yeah, but you had them for the last 20 years or so and decided to take them out. So that ridiculous explanation doesn't wash! Just like someone decided to remove them, they can put them back. Besides, there are at least 2 people sitting in the lobby every time I came there recently. Seemingly doing not much! This attempt at conditioning members to this new non-communications system is an example of bad customer service! Please fix it and return the excellent service once enjoyed by members post covid! I no longer recommend this gym. The loud music in the classes has become deafening. Some instructors either have hearing issues or incorrectly assume that their extremely loud music is motivating. The Y has the technology to fix this and it worked very well, but then it turned it off after a few instructors complained. This gym is a bit fat hypocrite with all the signs around about caring about the community while it doesn't seem to mind that our hearing is being damaged. Addendum: Offering ear plugs isn't the solution. You should cut the ear devices back on to fix this or ask Diana Friedman to teach fewer classes since she is dead set on blasting everyone into oblivion. This would at least have less of an impact on the exercise schedule of people who are really sick of her stupidity. read more

Niiiiiiice Y! BIG! Clean! Adequate space and lockers! Showers! Many, many group classes, a large, beautiful pool outside but protected from the wind, and really friendly staff! The instructors are very good, especially Debbie for the Body Pump (and other) class, the Pilates 1 instructor, the two cycling/spin class instructors (there are more!). All strive to provide the best workout for a variety of levels with enthusiasm. Some classes seemed to be geared towards older clients so evaluate each class independently. The only bummer, this place is popular and the parking lot can fill up causing us to stalk leaving members for their spots! Not so bad... There are literally more than one hundred activities you and your family can participate in. A great value for your $. read more

The Ys in Silicon Valley are really outstanding. This one in Mountain View is no exception. The added perk of this location is the sunny outdoor pool which overlooks Cuesta Park. The whole gym is bright and airy, in fact. The employees are nice and helpful. The Kids Club is wonderful. Both my kids loved going there, which really improves my quality of life. Parking and traffic can be a hassle at times, but that seems to be the norm all around these parts these days. read more

One of the best YMCAs in the Bay Area second only to the YMCA in the Presidio. Lots and lots of natural light, clean and very modern equipment. I just joined this location 2 weeks ago and am in love with it. The weight room could be just a touch larger, but has all the equipment I need. In the rare times that something is being used, you can easily jump over to a machine which they have dozens of. Also love the dedicated stretching / core room. read more

One of the best YMCA's in the bay area. Luckily, with a YMCA membership, you're able to work out at any of the facilities. From my experience, El Camino in Mountain View has been one of my favorite gyms. The location here is (relatively) clean and not smelly. They offer towel service, which is super convenient. Has a nice basketball court and equipment in great shape. Parking is no problem, and honestly, my favorite part is that there are so many windows that let in natural light. I have been a member of this YMCA for years and enjoy the ever changing schedule of group exercise classes they offer. I regularly take Yoga and Pilates classes to help me relax and manage stress. This week I took my first foam roller class with Crystal. Using the foam roller helps me achieve a deep tissue massage by performing core-strengthening and stabilizing postures and movements on the roller. Unlike some gyms that cater to just a young crowd, this facility has many things to offer people over 50 like myself and makes for a perfect exercise fit. read more

We enrolled our two daughters (4 and 6) in the swim lessons starting in April. My older daughters swim lessons got cancelled by Ymca because there where not enough children enrolled. Maxwell Taylor was our coordinator. He could not offer us a different class for our daughter. Therefore they told us we will get our money back. But until today we did not get our money back, although we reminded him and the rest of the team several times!! My other daughters swim classes where not cancelled. But the the instructor was very inexperienced. My daughter usually loves swimming and being in the water. But at ymca she suddenly got scared and did not want to participate in the class. She was already able to swim a little bit before she started the class, but the instructor did not recognize that. We stopped going there after three classes because my daughter felt worse and worse about the class and I did not want her to have a bad experience in the water. Based on my experience I cannot recommend YMCA swim lessons at all. Especially as they even don't give you your money back when they cancel classes!! read more

When I first moved to Mountain View it took me over a year to find the right gym. I tried boot camps, spinning studios, yoga studios, barre classes, and even a membership at Equinox. Everything left me disappointed till one day I decided to sign up at the Y for their swimming classes. I was taken on a tour of the gym and all the facilities they had to offer by Troy and my first complimentary work-out session was with Maeve McFarland. She became my favourite person there! Maeve has been training me since last fall and I've lost 10lbs with her, gained muscle mass, and I fit back into my jeans!!! Wooohooo!!! She taught me how to use machines at the gym I was always daunted to try out - and now I'm very comfortable rotating between free weights, the smith machine, the cable machine, and training with proper form. Finding a personal trainer with a great educational background is not easy and Maeve delivers on an impressive note. Maeve is extremely down to earth, very flexible, and has a self-deprecating humour which is refreshing, especially when you're having a terrible day. I always look forward to training with her - she is the reason I kept my membership at the Y! Thank you Maeve, for being an awesome trainer! The facilities, staff, and overall energy of this gym is amazing! It makes places like Equinox pale in comparison. This is by far one of the best gyms in Silicon Valley - and best of all - it's the Y!!!! read more

Not worth the money. The facility is OK. There's nothing bad about it, if you want a smallish gym and an outdoor pool that you wouldn't want to use in winter time. Right now it's 49 degrees and raining in Mountain View. That's not great for swimming outdoors even in a heated pool The problem is the price: They want $79/month for this place. They say they offer "financial assistance if you qualify," and that's all very nice. But you can walk into 24 Hour Fitness (a much bigger facility with an indoor pool and hot tub) and pay $35/month without giving the YMCA your tax returns and Social Security Number. They don't advertise the price on their website. I can't think why not. The only way to find out is to walk in (and get a sales pitch) or call them 5 or 6 times until you reach someone other than voice mail. I'm guessing that no one goes to this place unless they "qualify for financial assistance." read more
