Sutter was installing a roof at my next door neighbor's home and checked in with me to explain what would happen. I wanted to put my car in the garage to avoid dust etc but needed help moving a large wine cooler. The on site supervisor and one of the men volunteered immediately and did the job - refused any compensation!! They worked full out and completed my neighbor's roof in 1 day and it looks great. When we were in the process of purchasing our new home, it became clear that the existing roof badly needed replacing. We had very short timeline to get an estimate. Sutter Roofing was able to come out the next day and gave us a very reasonable price quote. We went with them and were very pleased with the work they did. The house came with a large koi pond and the workers covered it with plywood to protect the fish during the removal of the old roofing. We had a problem with our air conditioning system afterwards that wasn't entirely their fault and they sent someone out to make sure the issue was resolved. Sutter Roofing in Sebastopol came out to my house in Santa Rosa. Nate and his crew did a fantastic job of scoping out the project and coming up with an incredible concept. I am into Japanese maples and Zen gardens. After viewing my roof and surrounding area, the Sutter team came up with a concept that included decorative rock, a path leading to a gated fence that surrounds my HVAC system. Because of my concrete slab that the house sits on, the HVAC unit is attached to the roof. The expertise of knowing the right sub-contractors in the local area made the impossible task of moving the older unit and getting my roof in TIP TOP SHAPE. Nate was recommended to me by a close friend who recently had her entire roof re-done by Sutter Roofing. As she was extremely pleased, I called Nate for an estimate on the roof of my rental property. Nate gave me a price for a completely new roof and another price for repairs. He advised me that the shingles were in good condition and should last another 4-5 years, so I went with the second option which was to simply repair around the edges of the roof where dry rot had set in. I was pleased with his crew's work, they were respectful of my tenants, and I appreciated the honest assessment on the roof's condition. Sutter roofing put a new roof on my home, when I installed a solar array two years ago. The roof leaked after the first heavy rain...several attempts to correct the problem have been made by the company. The attitude of the company is that it is my problem to repaint my ceiling!. According to latent manufacturer defect law...they are responsible for any damage resulting from their install. UPDATE: Nate Sutter offered reasonable compensation for the ceiling repaint. My problem is getting resolved. UPDATE: 12/15/13 Instead of running from a customer service issues I have found Nate (owner) to address it head-on in an earnest fashion. This includes stellar communication and follow-thru. They have been diligent and professional in their resolution to my issues. At this time I would refer them to friends and family eagerly! Nate and his crew put a new roof on our house in 2011. We now have leaking over our front porch. I called and left 2 messages for Nate and the office 2 months ago to inquire about an inspection and setting up a repair - with NO response back. Have since had this inspected by another roofing co to find that the underlayment is completely unacceptable for that part of the roof due to the pitch which is what is causing the leaking and now it will cost a few thousand to fix! I would NOT recommend Sutter for your new roof. Don't like leaving poor reviews but Nate, you really should have made this right with me and been responsive. read more

It's sad that I feel I must share my negative experience with Nate and Sutter Roofing. Our home in Healdsburg had gutters that rusted through and we needed some attic venting. Sutter was more expensive than other quotes I received, but I liked Nate when we came to provide the quote so I went with him. He did the install in August of 2013. A couple days later I let him know that the guys who installed the gutters had badly scratched up (from end to end) a single 4 ft. length of gutter that faces the street (deep scratches down to the metal, inches long). This is the only length of gutter on the entire house that can be viewed when walking to the front door. Could he replace it? Eventually in December he came out for a look and agreed to replace it. (I'd sent him pictures. Wouldn't it have been easier to just bring the 4 ft. of gutter and do the job then?) It's been 14 months since the install and he's promised to come by and replace the gutter 5 times. In texts he's promised "Absolutely, positively next week" and the like. He's never come back. His team did a terrible job of installing the gutters: I discovered that in their haste to get the work done they installed the gutter OVER the asphalt shingles in many spots -- which will rot the decking and rafters. I mentioned this to Nate and he didn't respond. I had to try to fix these areas myself. Nate's not a bad guy. I do believe that at some point he wanted to follow through on his promise, but it clearly isn't that important to him -- he received the check and now he's done. My experience is that his crew does sloppy work (the install and scratched up length of gutter) and there is no quality control. Nate and I had discussed his putting on a new roof, but quality and follow-through are important factors when making large purchases so Nate won't be getting my business. My raingutters were installed by Sutter crew. But the first time it rained, there were 2 problems with the gutters. Nate Sutter was abusive and screamed at me over the phone, then hung up on me. Refused to come over and honor the warranty. I had to hire someone else to correct the problems, and it cost a few hundred dollars more. Now I have to take Sutter to small claims court to recover the extra costs. This company is run by irresponsible people, SO BEWARE! read more
