My wife and I were married on July 6, 2012 at the Barn at Boone Dam, which was catered (and hosted by) Susquehanna Chef. My wife and I met with the property coordinator a year before our wedding and fell in love with the property and the coordinator. She assured us that she would take care of the food, venue, and 99% of the decorations before the wedding, and was 100% accurate in her assurance.
We arrived the night before our wedding for our rehearsal to find the venue decorated and ready. We were THRILLED. The decorations were tasteful and expertly placed. Lights adorned the trees and deck where we had our cocktail hour, and paper globes lit up the inside in our wedding colors.
The day of our wedding we arrived to find the chairs placed exactly where we requested for the ceremony and lemonade, iced tea, and water for our guests (it was 98 degrees outside!!). The grounds feature several large trees, nearby forest, field, garden and river areas for interesting pictures, and a spacious deck and gazebo for late-night hang out time. For our wedding, the coordinator hung Mason jars (they had a LARGE selection of vases/holders ect.) with tea-lights throughout the exposed beam (and air conditioned!) indoors.
Now...the FOOD! Our wedding theme was "foods that we like," a wedding theme I'd recommend to anyone. The Chef (and coordinator) worked with us to create a custom menu; they told us that if we had an idea we wanted, they could make it happen! The Chef at Susquehanna Chef provided a cocktail hour featuring antipasta on a skewer, fresh fruit, blue-cheese meatballs, boneless buffalo chicken sticks, and crab rangoon. Our main courses featured a HUGE slider bar, french fry bar (TOPPINGS!), grilled cheese and tomato soup minis, cheese risotto balls, and chicken cordon blue bites. The food was expertly prepared, hot, and fresh for all of our guests even in buffet style serving. Unfortunately, my wife and I were very busy having an awesome time, and didn't get to try most of the dishes. The staff graciously provided us with a doggie bag with a little bit of everything we ordered as an after wedding snack. The food was awesome!
While the Barn at Boone Dam doesn't provide alcohol, but they did have courteous and knowledgeable bartenders serving the alcohol we provided. The wait staff quickly cleared dishes, and interacted with all of our guests professionally; it was clear that they there to serve our guests. The only interaction I had with the coordinator of the Barn at Boone Dam the night of our wedding was to thank her for taking care of the details so my wife and I could focus on making memories. She worked tirelessly to get us the party we've always wanted.
I have been to many weddings, and have seen how stressed a bride and groom can be when worrying about food/venue ect. I can honestly say that none of my or my wife's wedding stress was a result of the venue, food, and service; it was truly an outstanding, memorable experience! read more
