St. Louis, we need to talk about Suson Park. Because how is this hidden gem just sitting in South County and people aren't talking about it more? Suson Park is basically a little farm hiding inside a county park AND it's FREE. You can walk around and see cows, horses, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks and other farm animals. St. Louis County actually describes it as a working animal farm, and the barn is open to the public. And there's some seriously good St. Louis history here. The county bought the original property in 1962 from Sidney Salomon Jr., who was a major figure in St. Louis sports history. He owned the original Sportsman's Park and later the St. Louis Arena and became the first owner of the St. Louis Blues. Even better: Suson is a combination of the names of his children, Susan and Sonny. The park opened to the public in 1964, and today you've got the animal farm, fishing lakes, walking paths, playgrounds and picnic areas. So basically, you can spend an afternoon hanging out with a goat, watching a pig do absolutely nothing, saying hello to a cow and pretending you're on a farm vacation, all without leaving St. Louis County. And did I mention FREE? This is exactly the kind of place I mean when I say St. Louis has hidden gems. read more

Suson park is such an amazing spot for the family. We recently attended their BOO Bash for Halloween! This was setup perfectly for all ages and allowed the kids to interact with the animals. Not only do we love to fish here, but they put on events for the community to come together. Lovely spot read more

Wow such a great place to take the kids for a Sunday evening. The animals feeds only cost a quarter for a handful of feeds. The kids love feeding these animals. Also next to a park so the kids can play if time permitted. If kids love to fish, the pond nearby has some fish. I saw a kids with two fish on his fishing rod. Overall, this is a great place to enjoy nature and interact with the animals. read more

If you haven't been to Suson Park, that needs to change immediately. Suson Park is such a fun (and completely free) way to spend your day. Go see the animals, take a hike around the water, or if you have kids, they have a great playground. You can truly spend hours here, and again, there's no cost involved. Check it out! read more

This place is a 10 out of 10. I was exploring for the 30 in 30 hikes through St Louis County Parks. This cool little fam is tucked away in this park. It was farm animals, tractors, feeding stations and of course stupid people who feed the animals potato chips even though the sign asks you not to. I guess the rules don't apply to everyone. Take your family to opt outside and visit the farm. read more

Looking for something free and fun to do on the weekend? Go check out Suson Park. I've lived in STL most of my life and never heard of or been here. You can have a picnic, go fishing and see and feed the animals. There are horses, goats, cows, hogs. This is your chance to get up close and personal. The kids will enjoy having the goats eat out of their hands. Their were several families fishing and others just enjoying the view of the water. Plenty of parking available. Be sure to check the park hours before you head out. Nice family fun read more

Nice park. Concerned as the animals don't seem to have very big stalls & limited outdoor space. But otherwise very nice & well kept. Lots of picnic areas, nice playground, fishing. Pretty crowded. read more

I haven't been to Suson Park since I was a kid! I forgot what a lovely park it is! Entrance is easy to find off the main street. Bring some money with you because as you enter there is a donation box for the care of the animals. There are plenty of covered picnic areas with many tables that overlook the lakes. The small lakes are picturesque! There were some people fishing when I was there. Nice calm vibe to take a walk or sit on one of the grassy areas. The coolest thing about this park is the animal barn! You can walk through and get up close to the sheep, ducks, chickens and goats! In a separate area are the beautiful horses. This is a great place to bring kids! Grab a picnic lunch, eat by the lake and then visit with the animals! read more

Beautiful park with plenty of paved areas and ramps for those needing wheelchairs or strollers. Lovely playground and working farm for the kiddos to run around while the adults relax by the lake. Nice walking trails too for those looking to jog. What more can you ask for? read more

Great park in South STL County. Ponds for fishing, playground, and most fun is their farm animals! Bring the kids to see miniature donkeys, ponies, horses, cows, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys. You can pay for small amounts of food to feed the animals. Many of them come close enough to the fence enclosures for petting. The entire animal area is very stroller friendly. On nice weather days, parking can be hard because of everyone coming out. They generally have quite a bit so it shouldn't be too big of a concern. If you have littles with you, watch out in the parking lot areas bc there were lots of people driving too fast for a parking lot (at least today). read more

Oh for cute! You know, I really love the St. Louis County Parks. I've been to a bunch of them, and each one has been lovely. Suson Park is no exception. I had no idea this park even existed! It was mentioned to me and after some quick Googling, I figured out how to get there. Be warned that you really should look at a map if you haven't been here yet. It's tucked away, and can be easy to miss. The earlier reviews have covered the highlight of the park, which are the animals. It's a really cute setup. However, I do wish that some of the animals had more room to move around outside of their pen...but whattya do? Great big playground, a pretty lake, and enough space to stretch out (and I was there on a busy day). Parking can take a few laps, but nothing terrible. This is a great park for the kids, and a nice alternative to the zoo (although not nearly as impressive as the zoo). read more

Great park to take your kids to and they have a lot of things to do to entertain kids read more

Suson park is a nifty little place nestled right in SoCo. I visited with a friend and her kid for the first time. It's a pretty big park. They have a playground on one side and then the other side is full of a couple huge ponds and a barn where all the farm animals are. Suson has horses, heifers, sheep, pigs, ponys, piglets, chickens, ducks and maybe some more creatures that I didn't see. You can peruse all the animals in their pens all for free! It's a fun experience. It's not my favorite park but deff unique and worth the visit (if you're an animal person). read more

A great place to take your grandkids and all the animals are lovely. We went when less people were there and had the animals all to ourselves. It was wonderful! read more

I discovered this park years ago when a friend of mine who lives in S. County took me there. I was amazed that such an expansive and attractive park exists in the midst of the suburbs. What's cool about it is it's got something for everyone. A lake and benches for those seeking quiet, a playground for the kids and an animal farm for anyone who likes the idea of seeing animals in a place other than a zoo. It's free for everything and I like that every time I've gone here, it's never been particularly crowded. It's sort of a hidden gem in South County. read more

This is one of my faves for walking the dog and hiking.

Glad we visited! At the barn you're very close to the animals. Feeding the goats was fun for the kids (25 cents for a handful). We visited on a Tuesday morning & it was surprisingly busy. The playground was a little hectic. read more

Nice little farm park. There are goats, horses, pigs, chickens and a donkey. It is a nice way to be close to your country roots. Suson Park is a South County gem. I love St. Louis County parks so when I moved to South County and found out about this one, I was eager to check it out. They have a great play area for kids, great fishing in the pond, great place for pictures, picnics and don't forget the farm petting zoo. Be sure to start at one place and walk a circle around so you can see everything Suson has to offer. It is free but it does take donations if you wish to continue their efforts of a family fun place. Its a great attraction that I hope is forever here. read more

Alright, five stars St. Louis County for really doing this park right. This has to be one of the crown jewels of the St. Louis County Park system. This place is BEAUTIFUL. The huge lake and tons of grassy knolls for picnicking and just lounging around. I love going here and just reading for hours without being bothered. The park is actually that big and peaceful. It's not however a good biking park....it's just really not big enough for that. But the highlight of this park: there's a petting zoo! A FREE petting zoo in South County. What a great place to take kids! We love taking my little niece here to see the animals and she just loves coming here. Judging by the amount of families and kids you see at this park, we clearly aren't the only ones. Even though this place has everything a family and kids could want, and even though there usually are a ton of families and kids there on a nice day, it somehow remains peaceful. Be careful on your drive there though, I'm still haunted by the sharp turn/hill combination on Wells Rd. where, many many moons ago I totaled my '91 Taurus... read more

I love coming to this park. It is a great park for kids. There are a couple of lakes if you fish, a playground, a barn with a wide variety of farm animals. There are also a few sites for rent (some have pavilions) and a number of single picnic tables spread throughout the park. Lots of room for the kids to run around and burn off energy. Sometimes the park has concerts and they also have Suson Farm Fridays in the summer with hayrides, pony rides, games, face painting and barn tours. read more

This park is kind of a small farm zoo, with lots of horses, goats, sheep, pigs, donkeys, cows, turkeys, geese, chickens, etc. During summer months, there are milking demonstrations and other activities. That's not all - there are ponds to fish in and a great playground. It's free, but you are asked to drop a couple of bucks in a box near the entrance to the park. A great attraction for the under 10 set. read more

I think Suson deserves an upgrade from 4 to 5 stars. I've been there several times now with my niece, and we love it! It's much more than a spot with kids' playground equipment. Between the farm animals, ponds and fishing, picnic areas, open spaces, grassy hills, scenic creek, and playgrounds it's really more of an outdoor adventure-land ready to be explored! read more

Apparently my sister and her little boy have a love for this park and i knew about it but i never had given it much thought considering the many parks in the city and county. However, since i was on vacation and wanted to do something with both of them i thought, lets go here! Not only is there the small farm (i will get to that in a little bit) there is a large lake where you can get your fishing bug out. The day we went was nice, and there was alot of people just relaxing by the lake and fishing. However, i think one of the biggest draws outside of the farm is the playground. I have to give props to whomever designed that place. There is something for all age levels there. A small climbing area for the smaller ones and then a bigger one for those a little older. PLUS a nice little climbing area for those whom can do things on there own. I liked that there was two small swings for those whom cannot do it for themselves. Along with a small music area this is a nice place for the young and young at heart to enjoy themselves. I know my nephew enjoys this place far too much. So much he didn't want to go. Now, this brings me to the small zoo (or farm) as i like to call it. I appreciate that they have so many different types of animals here to show the kids. I was suprised to see how many types of cows that they did have and gave a small description of where they cow came from. My nephew enjoyed the small area where you could put your face in the picture. He's odd what can i say? But, this is a small out of the way jewel in the county that everyone should come see. ESPICALLY if you have young kids whom like to see animals but maybe don't want to brave the crowds of the zoo or grants farm! read more

Another great county park. The central focus at this park is on wildlife interaction. There are several fully stocked lakes for fishing. A barn full of horses and other livestock is open and available for families to walk through. Plenty of picnic areas and pavilions are open and available for reservation. A short trail runs around the perimeter of the park for a nice shaded view of all five (?) lakes. On the north end of Suson is a fully interactive playground with the new rubber ground. The kids seemed to swarm all over it. Nice park and well patrolled. Parking can be a bear on busy days but the place is huge! read more

It's a surprisingly clean park. Very refreshing. I wish they had a weeee tiny bit more bench's around places. But they already have good ones. Perfect place to go for a walk read more

A wonderful park. I've been going there for probably 50 years. There are a lot of fishermen. Lots of kids on the play grounds. There are pavilions for groups. There are several lakes with walking paths around them. There aren't many places to sit but most people bring their own lawn chairs. No food is available but there are barbecue pits around the grounds. There is a large barn with various types of farm animals that kids love to see. It makes for a fun day with the family or nice for an hour walk in a country setting. read more

All around good park with something for everyone. It has the usual picnic pavilions a great play area that was totally updated in 2009. The lakes are stocked for fishing. Paved areas for the kids to use their scooters. A free petting zoo. They even have a great sledding hill with the trees padded by hay bales in the winter. read more

This is by far the best park in the area! This park has a great playground, picnic areas, nice shade trees everywhere, a few small fishing ponds and a small farm area with regular and mini horses, pigs, chickens, sheep, & goats. It is free but they do take donations to help with the expense of keeping the animals. I love to sit with my daughters under a shade tree and have a picnic, let them play, then check out the animals. It is a very relaxing and beautiful park! read more

Well I used to enjoy this park until I got curious and sent an email asking about the animals. The last time I went, some of the horses looked terrible as they needed grooming badly. I also took a photo of a pony that had a huge knot stuck to his side from lack of grooming. It turns out that ALL of these animals end up at a livestock auction. Here I am thinking they had it made and living a long healthy life when in reality, that is not how things end for them. They are "property" St Louis County and that is it. read more

This is such a nice park, great for kids! they have a little farm where there are about 10 different kind of animals that you can look at and walk through. they have two ponds where you can fish and walk around. they have ducks you can feed. huge play ground. lots of areas to have picnics.
