But- parking... Brentwood Parks And Recreation needs to align with the city to help with signage for parking. The lot is not large enough (maybe 60 spaces not positive) to have two directions. Even with it being clear to many that the natural flow was counterclockwise, a few felt the need to go against the natural flow. Then the streets around the park were full causing the streets capable of only allowing for a single lane of traffic. Even with a clear flow and literally no room for cars traveling in opposite directions... some attempted to push in, causing longer stand stills. It's like trying to go to the zoo/forest park on the weekends. But the park itself is fun!!! I do wish there was more shaded areas within the park itself. Parking needs to be fixed... there is no way an emergency vehicle could have gotten in to help if help was needed. That is a big concern.

We went specifically to see the Flags of Valor. This was the first time we had seen them. We ended up going on the last day and there were a lot of people there. We finally found a place to park and walked back to the flags It was extremely moving and impressive. It was explained to me that the flags are there every five years. It's not always the same display - different groups from September 11 are featured so there are a different number of flags. There are dog tags and photos on the flag poles. There are notes people have written. This year there were 7,650 flags. They're all in perfect lines. The flags this year honored every life lost in the War on Terror - the victims, the first responders of 9/11, and those that who have since succumbed to related illnesses or PTSD. I'm so glad I heard about it and that we were able to go.

I don't know if you could walk Forest Park in a day and feel like you saw everything because it winds around and there are smaller trailers that pop in and out of nowhere. Surprisingly, I do not think the city takes care of the park, but an established group called Forest Park Forever, whose history starts back in the 60s, or 80s? They are a group of volunteers who tend to the park - every part of it, in every season, and really beautify it! There is security on patrol often enough so it's not too isolating and scary. There are parking lots closer to the main attractions. There is also street parking here, which adds to it being active but a park you can drive through, bike, and walk.

It feels like every park has been remodeled to include these crazy big climbing structures, which are so fun for big kids but make it so that I can't take my little ones there. Just because a park has a toddler sized structure doesn't mean it's a toddler-friendly playground. It's about what else is there; what a toddler is able to get themselves into, and how hard it is for parents to supervise and follow their toddlers (especially if parents have more than one kid to supervise). If there's a playground where a toddler can just go up some steps and all of a sudden they're 20 feet in the air... that's NOT a toddler-friendly playground. If you work for the city and you're reading this: Please build some toddler-friendly playgrounds!! Very disappointed with this Des Peres park remodel.

I do recommend you cross streets with caution (don't be staring at your phone!). People often drive fast through the park and you could get hit by a car if you aren't paying attention.
