My favorites are the Squid Salad and Baby Octopus Salad which also happen to be the cheapest (yellow plate). Their soup Ramen and Udon noodles are great. However their Yaki Soba and Japanese Fried Rice are off, with the former being too wet (too much sauce): and the latter with rice being too sticky and almost on the verge of being mushy. It is genuinely shocking this place has more than 1 star, let alone 3. I am not someone who feels the desire to write bad reviews ever, but the food here was bad enough to warrant taking the time. The miso soup and the crab rangoons were a 6/10ish. Hard to mess those up. It went south from there. The "spicy" edamame was a 2/10, slight credit for it not actively growing mold. Zero flavor, soggy, and overcooked. The salmon avocado roll, spicy tuna roll, Fire roll, and vegetable roll were all a 3/10 or so. You could find equivalent sushi at a 7 eleven I suspect. No flavor, somewhat mushy, small portions (maybe a positive here?). Generally just bad food, and I'm not someone that's extraordinarily picky. Would recommend not coming here. read more

The restaurant is very sanitary and modern. One thing I liked about this restaurant is how the staff were very accommodating and polite when I ordered food. If you order from the kiosk at the table, the items are delivered by an express belt. You sit in a booth so you are pretty self-contained. The plates are priced by color codes so no surprises when the bill arrives. Try everything at least once because all the dishes were delicious. I got about 6 plates of sushi and my total came out to about $21 with tip included so that wasn't so bad. The server wasn't so attentive or not really paying attention, as I clicked the call server button on the tablet in front of me, but he didn't come to me until I stood up to call him over for my receipt. There's a reason for all the good reviews (have a good day man - sorry just saying bye to my friend), it actually tastes pretty delicious. Underrated, surprising, and I highly recommend coming during happy hour, because you'll save a lot of money and get a lot of sushi and thoroughly enjoy everything here, as I do, I hope anyway, and while it's not top of the line gourmet, neither is anything in Houston, it tastes pretty damn good to me. If it were in Cali or NY or Boston I'd give it 4 because it's not as good or as cheap as my faves there - but on a good day it's close, and by Houston standards it's a 5 for both price (on happy hour) and taste. This is a great spot if you want to try different types of sushi for the low. They have plenty of seating and it was clean. The waiter was very attentive and so fast! They had some fun jams playing as well. It took me a while to make my choices but I was so happy with ones I had. If you don't see a roll on the belt, you can order it on the device. They don't have signs next to the rolls, but you can ask the waiter for a paper menu which breaks down the menu with pictures and plate color/prices. The device also has photos and more details on what is in each roll. They are a Pepsi restaurant (so Sierra Mist, Pepsi, Tropicana Lemonade etc). My daughter and I just left this restaurant in disgust. The food: quite literally the smallest, most expensive, and flavorless nigiri in existence. The portions were ridiculously small, its as if they made one salmon nigiri and then cut it in half. It couldn't have been much smaller than a quarter and it was $4 per dish. The service: my daughter got the salmon roll which contained quadruple the amount of salmon than my nigiri but was much less expensive. Today you order your meal from a table tablet and the conveyor delivers it right to you. Thankfully the restaurant keeps a staff on the floor making sure customers are being served. I've been here a half dozen times and have made this my first choice for sushi while dining in Katy. The food is close to traditional Japanese except there are spices and seasonings used to give the dishes a little pop! My favorite dish is the baby octopus. My first time to visit, is during all the Covid weirdness. I'll have to update this review when I go back and visit when the conveyor belt is open. Currently all ordering is done by a small touchpad screen at your table. Let me start by saying I'm a huge fan of Kura Sushi and eat there at least once a week sometimes twice. This nearby competing restaurant is a little higher end, and has some definitely more expensive options for entrées and rolls. It's a bit more sophisticated, and would be a good date night outing. They could not make the pricing more clear based on color-coded plates. And I look forward to trying their weekday happy hour from 3 PM to 6 PM where all "from the belt" plates are $2 -- no matter the color I found the Calamari to be very tough and chewy, and they were two completely inedible pieces in my serving. The other options I chose, (salmon, tuna, or eel based rolls) tasted very fresh and I enjoyed them. I'm sure I'll be back sometime soon. I've always been a fan of Sakura for its unique dining experience, specifically the conveyor belt system and the digital kiosk for orders. However, my recent visit 10/09/23 was quite disappointing. The owner decided to remove the digital kiosks, presumably to cut costs, and this decision completely changed overall experience. With the kiosks, ordering was a breeze - vivid pictures, clear descriptions, and was fun anticipating your chosen dish whizzing towards you on the conveyor belt. Now, you are left with traditional paper menus which are not as intuitive or visually appealing. The food on the conveyor (that night) was very limited in choice (maybe 5-6) Moreover, without the kiosks, there's an increased reliance on the limited waitstaff, leading to much longer waiting times and a diminished experience. And-the kids loved playing on them (since we dont allow Ipads at the table, the games were fun). The appeal of Sakura wasn't ever the quality of the sushi but the unique and super fast ordering process. By trying to "save a buck", the owner has inadvertently detracted from the very essence of what made Sakura unique. The added inconvenience to customers and the undue burden on the staff seems a shortsighted move. The cost savings from removing the kiosks will likely be eclipsed by the loss of clients and waitstaff. Not being petty. Look at your one other competitor. (name omitted) Revolving Sushi Bar not only has the kiosk, they have a robot that brings you drinks, and surprise toys that pop down to your table. You removed 1/2 your business experience/value add. We spent $73 bucks on a dinner we could have had up the street at Sushi Hanna, with better food and an expected 1hr in length. We'll be driving by Sakura next time. read more

I've been wanting to check out a revolving sushi spot and finally got an opportunity to do so at Sushi Sakura on a Monday evening. Sushi Sakura is located in a shopping center so parking isn't an issue. Katy has really blown up lately and their dining scene is growing tremendously. I don't visit often because it's a far trip but this was worth the visit. They have bar-style seating as well as booths by the conveyer belt. If you've never been to a place like this, it's a pretty cool concept. A conveyer belt brings around a selection of sushi and other Japanese tapas. If you're interested in an item, just take it off of the conveyer belt and eat away. You can supplement what happens to be on the conveyer belt by placing a custom order. Since their menu extends well beyond what was offered on the conveyer belt, I did a mix of both. When you place a custom order on their tablet, it comes straight to your seat. You're charged per item and there are different prices based on the dish. I tried an assortment including gyoza, pork katsu, a sushi roll with shrimp, shrimp shumai, teriyaki roll, and one or two others. Everything was good and I like that this experience gives you the opportunity to try a bunch of dishes.
