I decided to try this place because y tried and true favorite cheap sushi place has gone downhill. I saw there were many positive reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. This reminds me of one of those hole in the wall spots in NYC that offer great eats. The location is about 2-3 miles from I-84 and is in a small strip mall area. There was one guy ringing up the orders and making the sushi. He was an older guy so I figured he knew what he was doing. I ordered the spicy salmon roll and yam tempura roll. Both were fresh and prepared well. The yam tempura had the right amount of crunch. The spicy salmon roll was pretty good as well. I'm not certain if my stomach just wasn't in the mood for so much rice or if I should have forgone the yam roll because I had way too many carbs. This place is a quaint spot, perfect for small groups or a date night. The prices are a little higher than most of the sushi places in the area ($5.45 and up) but the sushi is worth it. read more

This Sushi place is amazing! The fish is very fresh, probably the best I've ever tasted. The spring rolls are absolutely delicious and everything just tastes fresh. I recommend not only the spring rolls, but the vegetable gyoza are also a must have. These gyoza are the best I've ever had. In general if your looking for an amazing sushi place, I recommend sushi red. read more

Ambiance lacking. More like a fast food/cafeteria feel inside. I was dining in, and they wouldn't give me a cup of water, so you have to buy bottled water. Sushi was fine, but nothing that'd I'd prob. go back for. read more

This place is tiny and has a run-down feel so if no one told you how good it was, you'd be hesitant to try it. But it is fantastic! The freshest sushi you'll find anywhere. Don't go if you are in a hurry because the guy that runs it is usually by himself and if he has a lot of orders it can take a while. Trust me it is worth the wait. read more

Excellent sushi rolls and great service. The sushi chef have me a free white fish nigiri to try and a green tea mochi ball for dessert. Will definitely be back in the future. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. We were a party of 6( 2adults, 4 kids) with less than 10 people in the place and we were turned away. He said "I am the only one here". That has never happened before!!!! read more

Terrible sushi, dry and bland. I am definitely never going back. It doesn't deserve a single star.

The procedure in this place is a mess. One man literally takes orders and makes the sushi for the whole place .. And he takes one party at a time. So you could be sitting waiting two hours just to put your app and water order in. So you have to wait and wait then order everything at once. Bring a ton of booze if you are willing to wait. I don't think the wait is worth it. Sushi was just as good as anywhere else. read more

This place is exactly what we wanted - a quaint, family run restaurant with great service and even better food. No frills or bells and whistles but I still highly recommend this place for a great meal. read more

We're spoiled by some great sushi places in Boston, so we have little tolerance for boring or tasteless sushi. Sushi Red was a delight.

Unassuming place in a strip mall. Very fresh sushi. Friendly waiter/owner.

Love love love. This guy (owner/server/chef) is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. And the sushi is the best around. Hands down. In the past year or 2 I've probably gone through most of the menu and it's all superb. It's not a fancy setting, but the food and the service are unparalleled. This place is an absolute gem and I'm so glad I found it. Hopefully I'll be going here for years to come. read more

Best sushi in the area. Very small and a one man show....but I can't eat sushi anywhere else anymore. Hong, the chef, is extremely nice and accommodating. I highly recommend it! My coworkers and I eat here every Monday! read more

Best sushi I've ever had. We have to travel over an hour to get here, but so worth the trip!

This was perhaps the best sushi I ever ate period. The spicy tuna roll was so fresh you don't even need soy sauce. REALLY good.

What everyone else said. Fresh, great tasting, well-made sushi, great prices, and the kindest host/chef you could ask for.

This place was decent for being in the middle of nowhere. The service was wonderfully friendly because it's so small. We had miso, seaweed salad, handroll, special rolls and sushi - it was all of reasonable quality. read more

Sushi is just average however I give it more of a 1.75 due to the fact the spicy tuna and spicy salmon is mixed with imitation crab. They mix it together in the spicy sauce. This is not noted on the menu. It was a surprise, small pieces of the actual fish and a finely shredded and chopped imitation crab. Very disappointing. We will not be back. read more

Quality is the one thing you don't skip on when eating anything raw. Sushi Red had the quality and the expertise to deliver great sushi in an efficient and friendly manner all at a fair price. Highly recommended for REAL sushi lovers. read more

Incredible sushi. The owner loves his job and you can sense that passion in the food. Green tea ice cream too.....will go back.

I judge sushi first by the quality of the fish,, then the services and finally it's authenticity. Absolutely the best Sushi, the freshest fish, and the best service in the area hands down is found at Sush Red. When you are thinking of having Sushi, the real thing, go here so that you can experience what Sushi should be. No one else around here, with a few exceptions (Murasaki? or ) can even come close. read more

Anybody that truly knows sushi knows this is the best place around!!! Fantastic place!!! Have been going here for years!!!

I, for one, don't understand the negative reports on htis place. I can only assume these come from those who want the Americanized, big portioned, super-hot, over-the-top rolls and nigiri. Too bad because once you understand sushi you will understand Sushi Red. read more

This is one of the best places for the freshest sushi around. Sushi man runs this place by himself he makes the sushi, waits tables and checks you out. Occasionally he has help from his wife and kids. Sushi is always the freshest. You may have to wait a bit but it's worth the wait. I vote it best sushi in CT!! read more

Definetely going back. Served us green tea while we waited for our to go order. Was super friendly and helpful. The owner is awesome, the service was fabulous, everything tasted fresh and the sauces were great!!! read more

This is seriously the best sushi ever! We are from Sydney, Australia (where sushi is everywhere). Beautiful everything. Friendly, fresh, lovely green tea. I ordered the Naruto Maki roll. To die for! You won't be disappointed. I want to eat here everyday! read more

I had to try Sushi Red after reading all of the reviews. I wanted to take my brother for an exceptional sushi experience. Sushi Red did not disappoint. The quality of the sushi is unsurpassed. We will be visiting again and again. Well worth the price. read more

I have been to this restaurant many times while living in Bristol and I have come to know the owner and consider him a friend. I am very picky about my sushi; and my brother and I used to frequent Maru Sushi when it was still around, in Clinton CT, where their quality is narrowly matched. After they closed I looked for a place I can go, feel at home and enjoy my dinner without all the rush that chain sushi places usually have. I found Sushi Red after a quick decision. I was welcomed by a polite bow by a smaller gentleman in his later years. He sat me quickly, poured me green tea and left the tea pot. I wouldn't have to order a drink because of this. I ordered my usual types of sushi, usually a bulk amount and he took every single order without writing it down. He then went to work, talking to me as he cut my fish and prepared the rolls, making me feel like I was in his kitchen as a guest and not a customer. After about 10 minutes my hefty portion was placed in front of me and I began eating. The sushi was fantastic, well proportioned and reasonably priced. Unlike the bigger places such as Japanica II, Hanami and the former Fujiyama Sushi, these prices were much cheaper and the portions much bigger. He complimented the meal with constant care, asking if I needed anything and making sure my meal was perfect. For the finale, he provided me with two mochi ice cream packets, which I devoured with no hesitation. This restaurant is small, but mighty. The host/chef/owner is a fantastic man, who takes pride in his work and treats all with respect. I emphasize on how he treats his customers and his service because I am not the typical sushi eater, I am a full patched biker, with all the stereotypes of a typical biker, and he treated me as if he had known me for years. Not many places of this caliber can say that. So I recommend him to anyone who wants good sushi, and maybe a story or two. After 3 years of eating at his establishment I moved away, but before going and eating at Sushi Red one last time. I swear, he will cater my wedding. read more
