This place has some divine sushi. It's a bit outdated inside and doesn't look like anything spectacular, but don't let that stop you from stopping in to try their grade-A sushi rolls. It is affordable and delicious. read more

An unassuming facade, a very small space (only a few tables and the counter) but the perfect solution if you're looking for an intimate sushi date with personal attention. Green tea and dessert (mochi ice cream) come standard. I do not claim to be an expert on sushi, but I know what I don't like to find in maki - rubbery, too-cold fish and too much sauce to taste what's going on with the rest of the ingredients. NOT the case here. If you're on a budget and looking to get more for your money, try the classic California, Orange California, Tuna or Salmon roll which are all 12 pieces instead of 8. Want to be a hit at your next dinner party? Three sizes of party platters are available with a spread that makes me drool just looking at the photos. read more

I had a very nice experience. The food was very good and the chef was fantastic! Incredibly nice guy who works very hard. It was a taste pricey. Which is the only reason I am not giving it five stars. read more

Excellent chef owned and operated. good rolls and excellent service.

This place is very good. Do not get turned off by the place. It's like a sushi deli. Hard to explain. But it was very delicious!

Truly a one man show! As a result, have a little patience as he truly dedicates 100% of his attention to you/your table. Whether you order to stay or to go, everyone is treated the same and greeted with an invitation to a seat and cup of hot tea. For the nigiri pieces that are included as part of the combo, it is chef's choice but you can communicate what you like vs. dislike. Truly a gem, I would return and dine again. read more

The Sashimi was limited and marginal at best, the portions were small, and the restaurant looked terrible.

After trying a lot more sushi joints in the area I'd have to up my rating to 5 stars. It's amazing how some places just SUCK at getting quality fish - maybe I'm getting spoiled! read more

My boyfriend and I found this place on our drive back from NJ to MA! The sushi was great and the owner was very attentive! I recommend the spring rolls yum! read more

So sushi is my absolute favorite food. With all the raving reviews I thought hands down I found a solid spot. I got home with my take out order of all special rolls and wondered if I had the right order. They all appeared to be basic rolls with a little fish on top. Let me tell you this is the most disgusting sushi I've ever had in my life. All the rolls, or the majority of them had nasty tasting immigration crab meat inside. I can't even describe how awful the taste was. I imagine cat food is comparable to what this tasted like. Not to mention me and my boyfriend had stomach issues after eating the little bit that we did. We love sushi and usually order 6 rolls to share when we're out. We had six rolls and ate maybe one and threw the rest out. Do yourself a huge favor and don't waste your money, it's bad like Chinese buffet bad. read more

Favorite sushi place. Good size rolls, reasonable pricing, the owner is always so friendly and you get complimentary tea and mochi.

You know how you always tell your friends, family, or whoever that you love finding "local hole in the walls" that just have great food? Well if you live or visit this area and haven't been here yet, get off your ass and go there. This is a great little sushi joint with no frills but great food. I sat at the sushi bar, the place was empty, and had an amazing meal. I had sashimi and a basic dragon roll. The chef was quick, the knife skills were fantastic, and I enjoyed drinking my green tea while watching a master do his work. No need for wasabi, sauce, ginger to accompy it. Pick up your chopstick and pop it in your mouth. read more

This is run by one man, he bows as you enter and smiles as he does his job. Sushi is fresh and yummy. Not a great ambiance but great for takeout. read more

Unpretentious, hole-in-the-wall location serving up quality sushi. Previous reviewers have said that this is Southington's best kept secret, and I agree. The price is reasonable and the meal often comes with free little extras, such as a piece of sushi and green tea mochi for dessert. read more

Amazing Sushi. I was here for lunch with a few colleagues during the week. The tea was hot and relaxing, the sushi was top notch in taste and presentation. read more

I'm just not entirely sure why someone would advertise something as being a vegetable roll when it comes with both crab and egg in it. They should advertise that on their website for the sake of allergies and diets. My friend, who literally works at a sushi restaurant ordered a spicy tuna roll and received a roll that had spicy tuna mixed in with crab and it tasted way too fishy. Also the eel sauce is literally just thickened soy sauce. Overly salty and arguably repulsive. We couldn't even eat 90% of the food we ordered. I could've gotten better sushi at a stop and shop. read more

I probably had my worst Sushi experience there. Bad food and poor service. It seemed like the didn't care about treating customers as a priority. read more

Hidden gem in plainville ct. fresh, fresh and fresh. Great service and cleanliness. A must try....

Man at cash register was screaming at me, while owner was cooking behind him, insisting I ordered 4 meals instead of 1. When I politely asked to buy only 1, he refused and continued yelling. The worst I've ever been treated in a restaurant, I will never go there again. read more

Went here last week for the first time because I read so many great reviews. Let me start off by saying I'm a fan of rolls with lots of sauces on them. If this is you, you may be somewhat disappointed. My husband prefers more plain and thought it was the best place ever. But I must say I did really enjoy the sushi and will definetely be back. The fish is fresh and rolls a perfect size. Service is fast. That could have to do with the fact you are usually one of 2 groups in there. But the chef is very nice and throws in freebies throughout the meal. And to top it off the prices can't be beat for good sushi. read more

I happen to live within a stone's throw from this place and am very glad about this. I shall be returning! It's reasonably priced and delicious, and the owner is very gracious! I tend to enjoy eating on my own for lunch, and I like how quiet and cozy this place is. read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said! Went on a Friday evening and it was quiet, but the owner didn't stand around and stare at us. We had the freshest sushi we've ever had! Highly recommend to sushi lovers :) read more

Wow. This little place rocks. The nice old guy who is the lone sushi chef knows his stuff. I tried a bunch of different rolls, including some Nigiri. Excellent and top quality. Can't go wrong here. read more

Sushi red is the best sushi around. There's only one guy working so we went for an early lunch, perfect timing. The service was great, hot pot of tea which was perfect, and good quality food. I'm not the biggest seaweed salad fan but this place is delicious! We got an eel roll and a love roll, but arrived quickly and tasted amazing. The portions were great too. It's a pretty small place so I can imagine it getting quite busy and packed quick but it's definitely worth any wait! read more

My boyfriend and I moved to Southington early this year, and we've dined and ordered takeout here nearly every other week. If you're in a rush, I suggest getting takeout because the wait can be a little lengthy during dinner hours (sign of a good business), and the food is always fresh and absolutely delicious (and we are both picky when it comes to sushi). They are consistently incredible, and the sushi combos are a great deal. The owner is incredibly friendly, and it is clear that he takes pride in his craft. It's truly a one-man show and he never disappoints. The complimentary tea and green tea mochi at the end of every in-house meal is also a lovely touch! read more

Went here with my boyfriend for the first time a few weeks ago. It was amazing! Sushi tasted super fresh. You get complimentary green tea- awesome! We had the Salmon combo, New York and Spicy tuna roll. The chef is very friendly! I will certainly be back soon! read more

Decent sushi. Lunch time is a good time to go coz there's no wait. Chef/owner is a one-man show providing good service. He serves you tea when you come in and give you a complimentary mochi ice cream for dessert. Please support this local business! read more

I Dont know how this place has 4.5 stars. The sushi tasted it like it was from the super market. Total disappointment

This place is awesome. Everyone in the restaurant is very kind, and the man behind the counter is excellent at his work. My meal was flavorful, and, most importantly for me, portions were large. The price was low and did not show the absolute quality provided. All in all, you'll be hard pressed to find better sushi in the state. read more

Best sushi we have had around the area. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for great sushi.

I've been looking for a good sushi restaurant since moving to this area and I finally found it!! Sushi is fresh and delicious!

I picked up my order Friday night at 6:15 and found the place deserted. The inside of the restaurant is pretty plain and smells somewhat fishy, but don't let the modest accommodations fool you! The food is out of this world and the portions are amazingly large for the price! We ordered a rainbow roll, cali roll, smoked salmon with cream cheese roll, and a shrimp tempura roll. Each one was was big enough to be two whole rolls at other fancy sushi restaurants. The owner/chef was the only one there and he was the nicest man - very respectful and polite. I was really impressed with him and his fine restaurant. read more

(should have been posted on 12/5/11) Walked in for the first time just after the 13 day power outage (storm alfred) and they were susper excited to have us. The parking lot never seems to be packed, but that may be becuase they have like 10 tables in the whole place. The atmosphere isnt incredibly cozy as they only have department style over head lighting, but the "mom and pop" that work there equal that out. A friend highly recommended it (and so did yelp) so we headed in. DELICIOUS! And very reasonably priced. They gave us some white tuna to try (mmmm won me right there as its my favorite) and some mochi green tea ice cream. Never had it before, and wasnt sure why they were handing me a cold green rock, but that was awesome and I want to go back just to have more of that! A def read more

First of all great quality sushi with lots of fun rolls. The old Japanese man behind the bar is cute and very friendly. The prices are reasonable. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the experience was. Nice place for a sushi lunch. read more

This is the best sushi around. One man who gives your food his full attention. Sometimes there is a wait but it's well worth it. The tea you get while you wait is hot and yummy and the green tea mochi at the end is clean and refreshing. I can't go eat sushi anywhere else now. read more

If you liked this place don't ever go anywhere else . Because you will find out what real sushi is. The man at the sushi bar was the best thing about this restaurant . We had a spider roll , so bad we had to spit it back out . Then when going to pay , I was charged twice for items I never ordered paying $ 80 for the $45 worth of food I ordered. Never going back or recommend to any one in my sushi eating circle. read more

We've lived in Plainville for 6 years and never wanted to stop in here (even though it got voted top restaurant numerous times) based on the look of the outside. This is the perfect example of why NOT to judge a book by its cover. Hands down the best sushi we've had in CT. Not only is the sushi great, but the guy who owns the place is extremely grateful and pleasant. He hand rolls all the sushi himself. I won't eat sushi anywhere else anymore after having it here. Get a tuna roll and see how the tuna looks in this vs an Americanized/chain Japanese restaurant. Hidden gem & Must try!! read more
