This is a cute and cozy place with booth and table and bar seating. Theming is very immersive and well-done. Could be a good place for a fun lunch or relaxed dinner. We got tempura and two cut rolls (salmon and yellowtail). I thought the food was decent for the pricing but I wished we got a little bit more. We were thinking of getting the chicken dinner but it only comes with the tempura at lunch (not dinner) and we really wanted it so we just got it on the side instead. I do tend to prefer places like Shibuya in this area where the quality is just a bit better but it was still enjoyable and the fish tasted pretty good. I've eaten here in the past and I remember the food being at a higher caliber than most. Admittedly, it has not lost its edge. The restaurant is clean, cozy, and so quiet. Our lovely hostess approached and was extremely friendly and pleasant. She was sweet, attentive, and quite thoroughly answered our inquiries regarding the menu. My usual order is Blue Fin sashimi with shredded white radishes coupled with two pieces each of Salmon Roe, and Smelt Roe with one quail egg on each individual roll dipped in Wasabi and soy sauce mixture ... so yummy ! The chefs' artistry was exquisite and the plate was fresh with its wonderful subtle sweetness ! Prices are a little more expensive but have no problem paying more for quality. I was hoping this place was good. We were a table of 4 . I had 1 hand cut roll and a seaweed salad and a mocha tea. Everyone else had something similar. The quality was just ok nothing to write home about. Our bill came to $200.00 The yelp says $$ when it really should be $$$ or $$$$ a bit dishonest. It was hard and cold and definitely old. It had a dried out, seared chicken texture and the corners were hard. There's no way you guys prepared this and thought, "this fish is edible." The salmon, king, salmon, yellowtail, and halibut were great. Other items were not! The toro was of lower quality and had a rubbery texture. The blue fin tuna seemed as if it was frozen. The temperature of the sushi ran really cold overall. The spicy tuna crispy rice was OK. There are better sushi places out in the Conejo Valley. Sushi Raku is consistently among the best and freshest sushi in the city. When I read negative reviews, I think, this person doesn't know sushi. All I can say is that if you are a connoisseur of sushi, you will not be disappointed. If you are going to complain about the specialty rolls just go somewhere else. There are a few places in LA that remind me of Tokyo and this is one of them. The price is reasonable for the quality of the fish. The interior is just the same as it always was but what caught our eye was the massive increase in menu pricing. We're talking a 30% jump in most all their rolls! I tried a no rice tempura spicy tuna roll and not only was the presentation poor but the roll was just plain inedible. My husband enjoyed his roll but the quality is just not on par with their prices. $4.50 for a cup of green tea! There were four customers in the entire restaurant which was quite a turn-around from how we remember it also. We went here for a birthday and they went out of their way to decorate our table with balloons and put together a beautiful desert boat. Ah man, I had lunch here today and it was "Da Bomb"!!! Everything was super fresh, had a great taste, and the presentation was outstanding. Came in with my son and had the Baked Green Mussels, Yellowtail Sashimi, Salmon Belly Sashimi, Blue Fin Toro Sashimi (Double order), Live Amabei (Sweet Shrimp), and the RAKU Crunch roll (not pictured). I can't express how fresh everything was. It was a fantastic. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, both in the dinning room and the restroom. It a large TV right next to the sushi bar where we sat and it just happen to have my SF Giants playing the Mets in which was a bonus for the meal. We will definitely be back for more. They were on time with my orders and had a very welcoming attitude. I feel like when entering a restaurant it's not only important how the food taste but also the overall vibe.
