Parking, good food and service with fair prices, I'm glad that we went. The parking lot is not large, with a good number of stores it services, but cars are coming and going all of the time. It was not hard to find a place. The restaurant is not a big place and had plenty of seats when we went. You walk up to order, plus there is a good size menu with lots of options. It might take a bit to figure out what to get. We both ordered the Super Maki Combo bento box. There is plenty of food that comes with this meal. And it came pretty quick. Soup, tempura, steamed veggies, a couple of rolls, tempura, and a dumpling. They are not messing around here. The food was good, nothing really memorable, but nothing was questionable either. And for the price, not a bad deal. The staff was friendly and helpful when we were asking about the menu. When the food came to our table, we were happy with the freshness and presentation. The sauces were explained with what dishes they were for. It is a lot of soy sauce! The tempura dipping sauce was not what I am used to having with tempura but worked with the meal. I love their teriyaki chicken bowl! However, for so many years I'd pass by this place and never thought to give it a try because its name, Sushi Q, sounded like a play on the song titled Suzie Q by Creedence Clearwater Revival. For me, that song, Suzie Q is inextricably linked to that scene from the movie 'Apocalypse Now' with the USO flying in some Playboy bunnies to tease the soldiers with their provocative dancing then having to be evacuated out because the soldiers rush the stage and Martin Sheen's character ends the scene saying, "Charlie didn't get much USO. He was dug in too deep or moving too fast. His idea of R&R was cold rice and a little rat meat." What does this have to do with food, except for the part about cold rice and rat meat, right? Exactly! That's why my convoluted brain never let me try Sushi Q until now. Anyway, I was with a friend and we were looking to get a quick bite for lunch. In the past we would go to Luv to Eat Thai for a meal but this time we decided to go right next door to Sushi Q. I wasn't too hungry and decided to get a Jr sized teriyaki chicken bowl, and my friend ordered the regular size teriyaki chicken bowl. Unlike so many quick bite places, Sushi Q prepared the chicken on the grill when we ordered so it was fresh and hot when they served it. Not only that, it tasted like they grilled it over an open flame so that really gave the flavor of the chicken a huge boost! As for the portions, the junior size was perfect for a light lunch. The regular size gets you about 30% more chicken but a lot more rice so if you're watching your carbs or starch, maybe not the way to go. Regardless, it was delicious and I know I'll come back here when I'm looking for a tasty, quick and light meal alternative to less healthy nearby fast food choices like Chick Fil A or Jack In The Box. read more

Love Sushi Q! I get the California roll or Dynamite roll (I know I'm basic). My friends have had their combos and bowls and thought they were really good as well. Customer Service is great considering it's usually only two people..including the cook. I also usually order ahead and pick up as preference, but when I have eaten there it's been fairly quick and pleasant. Critiques would be the decor.. it's outdated and could use a face Lift, BUT I can appreciate with the cost to operate a business in Los Angeles that the focus be on the food quality and not making everything pretty. I would give this a 4 star for food and service, a 2 star for ambiance and the fact that there was no restroom and randomly located in a shopping center. So, its probably a 3.5. My friend and I are always looking for good sushi spots and we usually hit up DTLA or Little Tokyo, but I tried to find a place closer to her in Hollywood. I will say it's hard to tell sometimes if it's a sit down place vs casual to-go spot. I did like that parking was in easy, especially for Hollywood, so that's a definite plus. There was a table of what I assume were millennials eating with headphones on, not saying a word to each other. I was greeted by the girl in the front and waited for my friend. My friend got there and we ordered. I asked for the poke bowl and they gave me a sheet to fill out. I got the poke bowl with half brown rice and half salad, spicy tuna and albacore. It was $9 and some change plus tax and tip. I read that it was the best bang for your buck. My friend got two salmon hand rolls. Overall my poke bowl was delicious! I think my friend seemed to enjoy her hand rolls, but she's a bit snooty about the environment and rolled her eyes a couple of times. Here's what this place has going for it... 1) It is easy to customize your order to your liking. Each of my changes were $1 (ie: brown rice substitute for white and spicy tune substitute for crab meat). 2) The prices are decent. 3) Walk up order at counter so kinda a fast food style sushi place. 4) Great location off Sunset near Highland with a parking lot. Where things were not so good... 1) The rolls just didn't taste that fresh. 2) Spicy tuna felt "airy" which I don't like. I want to get what I pay for not "fluffy" fish. 3) Compared to similar places, it took a little long to get my food. I felt like they were short workers in the kitchen. I have been eating here on the average of twice a month for the last 10 years--maybe more. It's less than a block from where I work, they take my order over the phone, and they are always friendly and provide great service. I've ordered the same thing every time I've come here: #33 Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. I've been on an anti-inflammatory diet for about three years, so I get the bowl with extra vegetables and no rice or teriyaki sauce. A little bit extra $, but my gut thanks me. But y'know? I eat a lot of chicken breast on this diet and frankly, I get a bit tired of chicken after a while (even though Sushi Q's charbroiled chicken is reeeally good). So, today I decided to pay an extra $1 and try a shrimp bowl instead. I finished eating about an hour ago and I am still experiencing a great deal of pleasure from that shrimp. Happy stomach. I don't know exactly how they prepare it (sauteed with a bit of butter and garlic maybe?) but the flavor and texture made for such an enjoyable eat. Highly recommended. read more

There's also shrimp and scallop as well. Spicy tuna is okay but not as flavorful as other places and comes as a paste rather than nicely cubed. Customizable accessory toppings, including white and green onions (perfect for the onion fiend that is me), seaweed salad, smelt eggs, avocado, ginger, and sesame seeds Order half salad, half rice to get the best of both the healthy world and the filling world. Spicy mayo is also an option, but do not order it right on your food. Be sure you order it on the side if you get it. It's a condiment best adjusted GRADUALLY, unless you are reaaally big on mayo CROWD Like the other places in this plaza, it gets crazy packed during lunchtime. Based on their 4 star rating and one $ price I was excited to try this place out. I ordered a chicken teriyaki plate and two sushi rolls, it came out to $30 (more like $$). The Washington roll (pictured) is the saddest sushi I've ever seen. They skimped out on the salmon and added far more rice than needed. This was the same story with the chicken teriyaki plate. $12 for half a DRY chicken breast, smothered in teriyaki sauce, on a bed of rice. The rice made up 90% of the weight of this dish. I've never felt so disappointed with the food I purchased. Won't be coming back despite living only a few blocks away! read more

Sushi Q is one of the shining stars in this desolate food wasteland called Hollywood. Easily one of the best teriyaki plates in LA and i've had em all. The flavor that the grill gives the meat is unbeatable and their portions are pretty generous. I can't really speak on the sushi, i have my go-to spots for sushi already and haven't really tried theirs but I could definitely eat their chicken, beef or salmon teriyaki every day of my life. Not to mention that I've been coming to this place every week for the past 5 years and they've never missed a beat.
