An average meal. This review is for the Stoney Creek location. We ordered the Fennel Bomb, Mamacita, and 3 Nigiri Set for take out. In general the taste and sauces were good for all dishes, and ingredients appeared fresh. Compared to other sushi restaurants in the GTA, I found the rice too 'loose' and not compact. The ingredients, especially in the specialty rolls fell apart easily and did not hold well on the plate. The fennel bomb was large so had to be cut up so was a bit messy to eat. I didn't notice the tempura in the tempura yam. The yam was al dente. The restaurant appeared clean and food was ready when we arrived. read more

This is my top pick for sushi in Hamilton! A take-out only spot that serves the freshest fish I've had in this city, and it won't break the bank. I love how their salmon & tuna rolls are stuffed with large chunks of fish (not the small pieces you sometimes get). Plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options as well. I usually get their classic pick 3 maki set or pick 6 nigiri set, but their party trays are also a great option. read more

We had takeout from this place during the week... two rolls: torched red dragon roll, cucumber avocado roll and 9 pieces nigiri: salmon, bbq eel and shrimp. The total with tax was $60 before tip. It's not outrageous, but it's not cheap. Having recently moved from TO, I'd say they are Toronto prices. I'd still say that's okay, if it were the best sushi I've had in a while. But truth is, it was just okay. It wasn't not fresh, and the pieces of fish were larger than what I'm used to. It just wasn't fantastic and it came with no extras. In fact, it didn't even come with chop sticks! Apparently, you need to ask for them. I'm going to try a couple other takeout sushi places before I go back to fennel. read more

Quality of food was really great and fresh! Ordered right and got the perfect amount of food for myself and my party. Ambiance was cool, the music inside was my cup of tea. Service was alright, the only thing stopping me from giving it a 5 Star was because I preordered my food in the 10AM and needed it to be ready for the time I chose (5PM) an easy pick up since I paid online. I found out about this place recently. I used to go to Tempura in downtown for AYCE sushi. People used to go to Tempura could now come to sushi 'o', they have secretly move up to the mountain. Sadly, they are not doing AYCE anymore. The sushi here are fresh and legit. The rolls are very fulfilling and I always go with the 3 rolls for $12. I'm sorry, but I have to amend my rating. Not because the caliber of their sushi has gone down - I wouldn't know... And THAT is the issue. In my craze for sushi, I've amassed four free rolls since the start of 2018 (Yes, I know...don't judge me lol). The issue is, since September, each time I've tried to actually go online to order from them, they're closed. And I'm not talking about trying once a month and forgetting which days they're open. Their hours have become random and sporadic, and their closures last minute...To the extent that it seems like you can no longer "count" on them as a dinner option if you're planning to "treat-yo-self" on a weekend. As such... While I'm sure I'll order from them again (if I ever actually have a sushi craving that aligns with their happening to be open), I won't be trusting them as a dinner option for a good long while until these scheduling issues are resolved. read more

Just ate here last night, and I must say, hands down the best sushi place in Hamilton. I have been looking for a place for quite sometime that isn't complete garbage, and this place was the final place I was going to check before I gave up on Hamilton. This place did it for my wife and I. Fresh, great balance in the rolls (rice, veggies, protein), and the sashimi slices are very generous. Even without dipping the rolls in soy sauce you could taste a delicious flavour. Nothing in Hamilton compares. Oh yeah, and it's fairly cheap $$$. Honestly, I don't like going anywhere else for sushi in Hamilton anymore. Sushi On Fennell has spoiled me. The quality here is so high in comparison to AYCE places and even a la carte places. I've come back probably 4 times in the last month - that literally means that every weekend that I come back to Hamilton from Markham ... I end up here. This restaurant is like a dream come true for me. I love, love, love the fact that they have an online ordering system. You know those days that you don't feel like talking or scared that you'll be misinterpreted by the other party and you end up paying for something you didn't ask for. Good American sushi, (takeout only), always fresh and tasty. Good prices to. But since writing this review in 2017 I had to update a year later. Food is still good but the problem is the service, ording is always a pain and slow online, they never pick up the phone and they close all the time without notice and it is very inconsistent with the hours. This makes very inconvenient to order food from here and not worth all the bs for me. Prices also increased a little. read more

Oh, how can I express how much I love Sushi 'O' On Fennell? Let's start with the food: delicious. So many vegetarian options. Vegetarian sushi is such a pleasure, but businesses usually let it fall to the wayside with a cucumber maki and a couple of avocado things. Not here. Creative, stunning, fresh and just incredible. The vegetarian dragon roll is a particular favourite, along with the vegetable gyoza and enoki mushroom tempura. On top of that, my husband is allergic to avocado and the fact that we can order several different rolls for him to eat - I mean, it just doesn't get any better than that. The service: The best! They are so kind and thoughtful. They realize we don't eat meat and send along bonus vegetarian miso soup every time. One time we forgot to specify that the avocado needs to be separate from anything without avocado - and they remembered for us! The delivery person is always warm, genuine friendly, arrives in good time with everything still hot and cold as it should be. Even our cats love her. As an aside, they have holes in all the takeout containers with fried foods and that ensures it doesn't become immediately soggy from the steam. If you're craving for some sashimi (pretty big pieces btw) and some rolls but don't want to get AYCE then I would definitely recommend this place. Umm I'm not sure where the other reviewers have eaten sushi before but I am extremely well traveled and from the takes, this sushi was NOT great. I bought 3 rolls and I was not very impressed. I am usually into giving places second chances but I won't do it with this place. I'll have to try to find some else where. On the upside, the staff was very friendly polite and helpful. They have an amazing variety of sushi and convenient delivery for sure! I'm also vegetarian and I appreciate that they include vegetarian miso soup with meatless orders, in addition to the great dishes. Everything tastes fresh and comes at its ideal temperature of roll, tempura, soup, etc. Their service is also kind, considerate, and generous--along with miso soup and red bean rolls, they sometimes include leaves of roasted rice green tea to brew with delivery meals. I absolutely love this place. Its not really conducive to dining in but oh my god is their sushi delicious, fresh and super cheap!! We ordered a medium sashimi set, and 2 of their $11.00 combo for one. We had TOO Much which never happens when we order sushi. They included a free appetizer of tempura sweet potato which they didnt need to do but was so thoughtful. Overall, we were super impressed with our takeout dinner and had enough for leftovers the next morning! This is definately our new fave spot! read more

Although the food was good and great price, I hate to say this but it definitely tasted stale. The rice was super dry for it being sticky rice (maybe it was sitting out too long?) Tried this place because of the great on-line reviews and if anything the reviews did not go far enough. We had miso soup, edamame beans, beef gyoza (dumplings), spicy tuna maki, Black Jack rolls (Salmon, avocado, asparagus, green onion, spicy mayo; topped with BBQ eel) and Spiderman rolls (soft shelled crab, cucumber, avocado, tempura bits & Spicy mayonnaise topped with mix of salmon, smoked salmon, unagi sauce). Not only are the prices very reasonable but ratio of protein to rice was fantastic - instead of big thick layers of rice around small bits of protein, it was the complete opposite. Large pieces of protein, very fresh tasting fish, and very fresh avocado and other veggies. Really great complex flavours (especially the bbq'd eel) Best sushi I have had in this city. Only downside is how long it takes, big sign on front counter saying "expect long waits". This can be avoided by using their very detailed on-line ordering service and order well ahead of time. Ordered around 7:50 pm on a Fri, order was ready at 9:08. I live in the west end of Hamilton and it is WELL worth the drive to the east Mountain. read more
