We were craving for sushi while we were in Waterdown. Since we were so hungry I took upon Yelp to refer me to a decent sushi place nearby. Bentobox was promising and was reasonable close. It was Saturday noon and the restaurant was empty upon our arrival. Since it had some pretty decent reviews we decided to give it a try. We were seated at the back of the restaurant which was out of view from where all the employees were. The waitress came to take our order after several minutes but we weren't ready. Once we were however, she never came back to check up on us and I had to walk to the front to get her attention. We ordered 3 rolls which consisted of spicy salmon, tuna, and a special image roll. The appearance and presentation was overwhelming and it seemed like no effort was put into plating. The sushi itself was something I could compare to supermarket quality. After spending close to $40 and not feeling full, we really couldn't find anything positive to give this review higher than 1 star!

I came to Bentobox for dinner with my babies. Saw some decent reviews and it was close to where we were. Got there and it was empty since it was around 5:30pm pretty early for the dinner rush. I guess there was a lot of delivery and takeouts because no one came to bring us to a table so we just sat down on our own. Took them 10 mins to get us menus. When it finally came and we go our order put in it took us 10 mins to get our appetizers. We ordered the edamame and tempura shrimps with vegetables. Then when we were done it took another 30 mins for our mains to arrive. We ordered the udon noble soup with chicken for my daughters to share and I got the chicken yakisoba. The soup was good portion size. However the fried udon noodle yakisoba with chicken portion was so small. It was a quarter of the bowl it came in and there was literally a few pieces of chicken for $14! Not worth it. But it taste good. I took 2 stars off for service being slow and the food portion are so small for the price. I'm on the fence as to if I would come back. Maybe I'll try the other items.

Terriyaki beef was perfectly cooked, and frankly, best I've had in all of GTA. Pricing was great for the quantity. Definitely recommend!

Completely unremarkable takeout sushi. Self-serve tables that are not terribly comfortable. Quality of food: adequate.

Sushi Masayuki - Tuna with pickled radish (Torotaku)

For some additional context, my wife is Japanese, and having been to Japan numerous times over the years, it's hard not to compare the quality of fresh fish to what we have available here.  This is one of the reasons why we've kept coming back to this restaurant, because it's on par with what you would get at an excellent sushi restaurant in Japan. For our meal, we both ordered the Masayuki Tasting Sushi Lunch. The meal started off with 3 types of tempura (shrimp, okura and pumpkin), along with an egg with eel in the middle called "umaki". There was also braised eggplant in a dashi broth.  Each of these dishes were exceptional quality.  I especially love the braised eggplant since we've had this as an appetizer on previous visits.  The second dish we had was octopus with "yuzu kosho", which is a paste made from chili peppers, yuzu peel and salt.  We were also served sashimi pieces which included greater amberjack and tuna.  The sashimi essentially melts in your mouth and you can taste the quality of fish since the flavours are prominent.  In addition to the fish, the dish was presented with shiso (perilla leaf), wakame, radish, shaved daikon, and shaved Indian carrot as part of the presentation.   The third dish was a set of nigiri, which was served one at a time as you eat them.  This dish contained sea bass, salmon, tuna, scallop, Japanese Spanish mackerel, and amberjack.  As was with the sashimi, you can tell the fish is high quality since each piece is buttery and melts in your mouth.  This was also the first time I've had Japanese Spanish mackerel, and it was absolutely delicious. The dish was also served with a side of miso soup which has a very nice flavour while not being overly strong.  The fourth dish in the set were rolls which consisted of tuna with pickled radish. My wife explained that tuna and pickled radish (torotaku) are put together in a way to melt the fish in your mouth, plus provide the crunch with the radish. When we were speaking with Chef Masayuki, he mentioned that umaki and torotaku were unique to this particular lunch set, and not something you'd see on a regular menu. Finally, for dessert, we were served green tea ice cream with a sesame senbei on top, along with green tea cheese cake. Both the ice cream and cheese cake were amazing. Neither of them had a lingering aftertaste like you'd get with a cheaper quality of green tea. This is something I'm extremely picky about, and was extremely satisfied with.  When speaking with our waitress, she mentioned that both the sesame senbei and green tea cheese cake are made in-house - which you can absolutely tell due to the quality and overall flavour.  As with previous visits, we walked away quite full and extremely satisfied with our meal.

Doma Sushi - Doma's Roll, Sushi & Sashimi Lunch

Doma Sushi is hands down one of my favourite sushi spots!…read more I kept passing by Doma Sushi when going to Burlington for errands and had to remind myself every time that I should try this place out. When I finally got around to checking off that to-do box in my head, I was not disappointed. Doma serves up fresh, quality fish with an assortment that you're not likely to find at any other sushi joints (and definitely not at an AYCE establishment). They also have a great selection of rolls consisting of the standard fanfare that you would expect at most sushi places, but also their own unique spin on a few items. I've tried their lobster roll (interesting and yum), crispy salmon (super yum, would re-order & highly recommended), and crispy tuna roll (super yum, would re-order & highly recommended). Everything I've tried at Doma has been wonderful so far and I'm eager to return and try some more items off their menu! The only minor ding: although the overall presentation and plating of ordered items were nicely done, I did notice on several occasions that their rolls were quite loose - rice came across quite easily when picked up. Service for both dine-in and take-out is warm, polite, and attentive. Prices are on the pricier side compared to other places in Burlington but it is well worth it for the quality and taste that Doma offers!

I was asked to pay up front before being served, which made me wonder if there was something about my credibility. My meal was initially handed to me in a plastic bag, even though I intended to dine in. After clarifying, they plated the food but served the sushi and the hot appetisers, like the lobster tempura, at the same time, which wasn't what I expected. Drinks like water were only offered at the end of the meal. The food was truly great, even though the lobster tempura was a bit dry, the service could definitely use some improvement. I give the food 4 stars and the service 1 star, which averages to 2.5 stars overall.
