Our eyes were definitely bigger than our appetites, but the food was worth it! All sushi rolls were made so fresh. The futo maki roll was exactly like my grandma used to make, and I liked that you could order two different sizes. Chicken katsu was crispy and fresh, served with a side salad and the house dressing was tasty. Shrimp and vegetable tempura was fried perfectly in just the right amount of tempura batter. Crispy and light, not doughy like some places. The cherashi bowl was a masterpiece full of flavor and the perfect selection of fresh fish. Salmon/sake is my favorite and this salmon just melted in your mouth. The other fish selections were just as delicious and the sushi rice was flavored just right. Found this place on Google as it had a good review. You wanted to try it out as a takeout so we ordered a party tray large. The food was slightly above average with lower rice content. However, the tray was half vegetable, the rest was quarter raw quarter cooked meat. Sashimi was not part of the party tray, therefore based on the selection, quality and quantity versus the price, I was not too impressed. read more

This is one of the best sushi places in Oakville, 5 minute's drive away from Oakville Place and right across Oakville GO. It is very low-key and I'm glad I got to try it. The sushi/fish was of high quality and arranged elegantly. Pricing was acceptable for good quality fish. I was really surprised that a nice restaurant like this was hidden in the middle of Oakville. I had the Sushi Boat for Two and added a specialty roll which is just enough for two people. I also enjoyed the quiet, cozy atmosphere and good service. Oakville is not particularly known for its Asian food, but this is now added to my go-to list whenever I visit nearby areas. read more

I would not recommend. Not sure if there is a language barrier, but I ordered the same menu item twice, and got two very different dishes. The first time it was an udon noodle dish with different seafood items in it and the second was an udon noodle soup with just a seafood broth. Dropped by this restaurant as we were near the GO station and craving a spot of sushi. Monday night was slow (one other couple in the restaurant) so we were served immediately and our food arrived very quickly! Our waitress was really sweet and polite. Service was a solid 5/5. I ordered the chicken katsu dinner set (comes with rice, salad and miso soup.) The rice was a bit soggy but everything else was fine. For the price, you definitely get value for money - portion sizes were great! Tasty chicken katsu My boyfriend ordered the kamikaze roll, which says spicy but isn't really- it's more like spicy mayo that's drizzled across the top. (Still tastes rly good tho!) They offered my boyfriend miso soup and salad on the house too which was really nice!! They also served us little orange slices while we waited for the bill which was a nice touch. Overall I really liked this restaurant, it's a nice and quiet little place in a great location - if you're waiting for a train, come a little earlier and stop by for dinner! read more

Me and my friend are both huge fans of sushi so we thought we'd try out this restaurant in Oakville for lunch. The fish was very fresh. As at most sushi restaurants, you can watch the chef prepare your meal. They ran out of one item on their menu so we had to substitute for another. The food and service were both pretty good, but nothing spectacular. The prices were reasonable for a sushi lunch, but I have had larger portions for a better price at other restaurants. The parking lot was full and it's a tight squeeze getting in or out. I believe there's additional parking in the back if you don't want to fight for a spot. read more

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday with my fiancé and ordered Chirashi Sushi. It was not busy at the time. We were not sure what to order. The server was kind and suggested some dishes. I went with her suggestion and got the Chirashi Sushi. It was surprisingly delicious. I also ordered the fire dragon roll and really enjoyed it. The only thing is that I found it a bit pricy. This quiet place is located right across from the Oakville Go station. The service is always friendly. Although if you are ordering takeout I would recommend calling in advance, because they take about 30 minutes to prepare your food depending on what you order. The quality of food is great, well at least the maki rolls are. My girlfriend and I always order the rolls (dragon, spicy tuna, unagi etc). They are amazing, but pricey. This review is based on takeout only since I have never eaten in the restaurant. After having a real craving for sushi I walked in and read the takeout menu. I ordered assorted veggie tampura, salmon sashimi and spicy salmon roll. The tampura was great! Not soggy or greasy. The sashimi! Now that's where it's at. It was extremely fresh. No awkward fishy taste and was sliced not too thin, but not too thick. I didn't love the spicy salmon roll and didn't end up finishing it. There was way too much spicy mayo on it. I couldn't actually taste the salmon. Not only did the mix the salmon with the spicy mayo, they also out a bunch on too. Just way too much for me. I will most likely go back purely based on my sashimi experience, but will tell them to go light on the spicy mayo. read more

Maybe I'm just a sucker for friendly service, but I enjoy the Sushi Ami experience. It's close to the hotel I stay in when I come to Oakville, and I always find the food quite fresh and good. They make a killer salad dressing (which they also sell), and though the portions tend to be small for the price, I come from a land-locked state, so I'm used to sushi being a little pricey. The first time I went it was a slow night and the chef made me an extra dish of sauteed scallops which I wasn't charged for--a nice treat which made me want to come back. read more

I think something definitely has changed. We went there last Saturday. I used to go there for dine in or get take out all the time. We were kept on going back because we liked their food so much. That Saturday though, the regular sushi chef was not there. There were always two and the instead of main chef, the assistant chef and other person was working in sushi counter. We got the largest sushi, maki and sashimi combo, and waited for about 45-50 min for the food to come out. The service was so slow and the waitress did not even bring us tea for really long time---- we did not even get the tea in the end. She just brought out 6 cups of cold water.. Whatever... I have heard excellent comments about this place from many people around me so I went to try. Their sushi is the "original style" of japanese sushi! It is not just cheap take out sushi that has a thick, gross fish (sushi) over a massive rock hard rice. Their sushi was thin on top of well- marinated rice so it was so smooth and silky that it would just melt in my mouth!! :) (if you are not an expert in sushi, in japan, they never cut sushi into thick chunky pieces because the fish will not be fresh when it is not cut properly.) I have to say, my favourite roll is Spicy Crunch Roll and Chicken Crunch Roll! Also, their Kalbi is VERY good! The sauce they use for the Kalbi is delicious and what I like about this amazing dish is that it is served on a hot sizzling stone plate so the meat will never get cold. God, I love that sizzling sound! In price wise, some foods may be little more than other places but it is soo worth the money since their food is always fresh and tasty. The overall feeling I get from this restaurant is "Luxury". I heard their majority of custmoers are high/rich Oakville people. (and BTW,, a pro PGA golfer, Anthony Kim visits this place a lot when he has a tour in Glen Abbey Golf Court. I saw him at the restaurant last year or 2 years ago!) I'm kind of surprised that this restaurant has such a low rating but that's what you get with little reviews. This is actually the first place I ate at (on my birthday) when we moved to the GTA. (It's difficult to find a place to eat in Oakville unless you know where you're going.) Ever since, my fiance and I order just-eat.ca from Ami Sushi ALL THE TIME! We have tried every Japanese restaurant in the deliverable area and continue to go back to Ami due to the freshness of their fish. Granted the only time I have actually eaten in house was on my birthday last year, but they still had excellent service. (And gave me a free treat for my dessert!) I'll continue to visit here for my sushi needs (yes, there are needs). My favorite continues to be their housemade salads and spicy tuna roll. Can't go wrong with the throw backs. read more

ordered a dynamite roll and a spider roll for take out 1. Received two dynamite rolls 2. The shrimp was very over cooked, crispy and did not taste like tempura, but like a heavily greeced old french fry. (sorry that is the best description I can give) 3. Their was chunky mayonnaise in it and large pieces of lettuce which I have never seen in a roll before, maybe they were trying to pretend it was avocado which was in neither rolls 4.
