Some of the best sushi in the GTA, super fresh and really large portioned rolls with awesome toppings for a very affordable price. It is not necessary to order AYCE, you can order a la carte and eat very well for a very good price. We enjoy going to this restaurant, and even drive from Toronto to go here. Horrifying! Racism! Arrogance! - You will realize such ones if the weird Male server (mid aged guy) and a even more weird lady server (mid aged lady) will attend your table here. This small restaurant is no match in terms of food options and service. Our experience was horrifying more for the service than food. I had bad food in past but never such hatred behavior filled with unjustified arrogance. Customer service is extremely rude. I don't want to waste food but if the food tastes awful, I don't wanna throw up by gulping all in. For 3 different times their so called waiters came in to say that wasting food is extra (only for a single mistake of ordering a sushi pizza and fried noodle). Let me say again- It was a small sushi pizza that we ate 20% and a fried noodle that we ate 10% to conclude that we cant finish those 2 dishes. For a single mistake 3 different people will come to complain at 3 different times???? But still I explained politely that it was awful taste for our pallet. They don't have tablet so you cant see how orders look and details of order. They take order on paper (which I can understand as they are small in size and want to keep cost down on investing in IT) Specifically the male waiter (mid aged guy) was horribly rude- He said that how can you know from picture what an order is in an arguable way to justify their paper way of taking orders. Mr Over prompt Server - Just so you know wasting lots of sheets of papers for orders is also a huge waste of natural resources. He said desserts cannot be ordered multiple times. Are you kidding? Gentleman, please understand its all you can eat, not a 7 course A La Carte selection. Boasting being in business for 20 years will not justify your unwanted attitude. Further, I did not ask for the check and he came in with bill right away after handing over ice cream. That's the height of impoliteness. Thankfully I never had such experience in my entire life and will just write off this instance. That Male server behavior was absolutely reflecting racism as I could understand what he was talking in Japanese to his fellow workers (I understand Japanese fully as I lived in Tokyo for 8 years). By the way you have no clue who I was. I am sure our path will cross soon in future. We will have a good chat then. Overall, I am never coming back here, but if the owner reads this (Unless the male server was the owner), Kindly educate your servers that when the small shop is running because of food exploring customer who prefer to eat at your restaurant rather than at a different place, please be respectful to all of them and their opinion. Great Food, Great Service and most importantly it's ALL YOU CAN EAT!!! I had the veggie udon soup with avocado/cucumber rolls, the cheese wontons were a really nice and sweet twist as well as some veggie tempura. All of which were absolutely delicious. The staff were also very amazing and kind. I would definitely recommend going to this restaurant for people who live in the Durham area or those who are just passing through the Whitby area and need something good to eat. Let me tell you my friend and I experience on this restaurant. We dine in for lunch all you can eat. On our second set of order, due to the amount of food we ordered, there were barely any space left to put orders on our table. The owner(?) rudely told us that "this is all you can eat, you don't have to order this much food" right in front of other guest dining in. It was embarrassing to be humiliated like this. We ignored him and continued to eat. We had a bit of left overs (1 pc scallop, 4 small pc of pork katsu which had too much breading thats why we didnt eat, an maybe like 7 pcs of beef teriyaki which was so dry thats why we didnt eat it). The same guy (owner?) came back and told us not to waste food and he will charge us extra. We tried to eat the rest but that beef teriyaki was so dry and doesn't taste good so we just cant eat it. We ordered dessert and while we were choosing, the same guy (owner?) made this unwelcomed comment "are you sure you want to order more desserts? you have so many left overs!" again, we just ignored him and order anyways. When we asked for our bill, the same guy brought a take out box, expecting us to pack our left over beef teriyaki and charged us an extra $10 on top of our all you can eat bill! This is when we lost it and there has been some unpleasant exchanges of words. The owner(?) finally removed the $10 bill and told us never to come back (like we were going to after this rude encounter!). I paid the bill that we originally owed. After I paid, the owner(?) said "go back to your mother" LOOOL. So rude. The 1 comment that the owner(?) made that probably triggered him wanting to charge us extra was "you guys ate a lot of food for more than 2 people" while we had the altercation. Its AYCE... We have been ordering from Sushi Mountain for years. Their miso soup is top-notch. Sushi and sashimi are fresh. Warm dishes such as yaki udon, fried rice and oyako don are family favourites for us. Wow, Sushi Mountain just served up one of the worst sushi meals I've had in my entire life. I walked in around 3:30 p.m. on a Saturday for a late lunch and they were already charging dinner AYCE price. I don't particularly like AYCE for exactly what they lack. Quality. Against my better judgment, we decided to give SM a try since my mom was in the mood for sushi. We tried to order mainly from the sushi and sashimi section since that's what we were craving and the selection is soooooo limited for a $26/pp AYCE. Needless to say, they brought out all the other food selections first (tempura, udon, salad...a.k.a the fillers) and when the fish finally arrived, I had to do a double take. Spongy looking tilapia served as red snapper (really, SM? you really don't think patrons can tell the difference between tilapia and red snapper?), Smelly mackerel sushi that was barely held together and loads and loads of salmon and white tuna (or a.k.a butterfish). The surf clam was the only acceptable quality and the rest just made my stomach turn. For once, I was glad that I had ordered other "cooked" items at and AYCE. I ate what I could which wasn't much, vowing never to return to SM again. Feel free to indulge yourself here if you want to court some serious food poisoning. SM, you should learn to properly thaw your fish if you want to run a sushi restaurant. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! We came in at 1:15pm to leave our phone number down for our line ups due to the Covid restrictions it only allows maximum of 10 guests in house. We do understand with the current situation that the tables turnover time can be unpredictable. The staff told us it takes 1 hour for the wait time. So we recapped our phone number and walked around during the wait. We called back in 1 hour and 15 minutes later and asked about the status. The staff told us it is still not ready yet, it takes another 20-25 mins for the wait. So we came back in after 20 mins and the staff told us they called us 20 mins before and no one picked up the call so they gave the table to the next customer. Then we realised they called the wrong number (again we recapped when we wrote it down). 10 mins later we are finally seated by 3:10pm. The staff told us now they charge for dinner price. We were so disappointed and told them we called in earlier you said the table was not ready and you gave it to the other customer just because you called the wrong number. Now you are telling us you will be charging us dinner price. I don't think this is reasonable and the manager said nothing he can do. We left with frustration and 2 hours of starving during the long wait. I'm not here to create troubles but I think the manager should have at least apologised with all these happened and we shouldn't be charged with dinner price. It's a small restaurant with huge flavour. Décor is simple and sleek, the service is always great. You'll want to go early if you're grabbing lunch; it gets busy fast! The menu is modest, compared to other sushi places I've been to, but it never disappoints. This AYCE restaurant is very consistent. They don't change their menu often, but when they do, it's always delicious. I find that with a smaller menu, they're really good at what they've got. The Dynamite Roll and the Gyoza make my day every time. Sometimes the chefs get a little overzealous and stuff the rolls with so much goodness you can barely get it in your mouth. It might be for their own amusement because biting a piece in half is just crazy talk. Besides, you can never have TOO much sushi, right? I've been coming to this place a lot over the past few years and I never thought it would be difficult to review. This is the restaurant that started my sushi addiction. Service is a little slow so far, but it's a full house for all you can eat lunch! The thing about Sushi (in general) is that it's one of those things that's really easy to not get wrong, bu really difficult to get right. Sushi Mountain All you can Eat is simply a gorge yourself style menu with a very affordable price point, and although the Sushi quality is mediocre, the value is very good and balances out the experience. A full course, choose your own lunch is $15 tax in. I had some beef with the service (no pun intended) over some very simple things that were overlooked. For example, I found that despite how many plates I ate through and the frequent passing by's from the servers, my empty plates were left to chill out on the table. I ended up arranging them into a convenient little stack before they were finally noticed and removed. Also I found both the Dynamite and Kamakazie Rolls to be very loose and assembled haphazardly. I do understand that it is the lunch rush, but it is still worth mentioning. The ingredients are nothing exotic and have the more high quality items you would expect to find such as bamboo, eel, and oyster mushrooms omitted from the menu and subsequent dishes. All that being said, an All-You-Can-Eat Sushi restaurant that is local is something that every sushi loving restaurant goer likes to have in their array of known eateries, this one is mine and I will be going back. ***** UPDATE ****** Came back this Monday with a friend and enjoyed great service and the usual menu items. I usually go to this place because they have great options but their customer service is awful. I called 15 mins prior to their 3pm lunch special was over to ask them when I needed to be there by in order to honour the 3pm price - the Lady kindly replied "3pm". As I hurry over there with 6 minutes to spare, the man owner says that lunch is over. I explained that I called and he said "oh she must have been new and didn't know." Usually the hot dishes are where I find any real variety and these were just ok. One standout for myself and the kids was the veggie fried rice. This is my favourite sushi place in Whitby, in Durham, and in GTA. Their sushi is the best quality, their price for All-you-can-eat (AYCE) is cheaper than most places you go in Toronto. I have never had any Japanese sushi all you can eat as good as Sushi mountain, they even have drinks for free (included in the price of your all you can eat). Our old reliable "all you can eat" sushi place. We've been here acouple dozen times over the past couple years. They have a good selection of sushi, sashimi, maki, handrolls, udon etc. All your normal staple items, and they do them pretty well. Their grilling has improved greatly, as we find ourselves enjoying the yakitori, and various teriyaki meats (salmon, chicken, beef). There are better a la carte places in Toronto, and Markham. But this is by far the best, and most reliable "all you can eat" in durham region. ** Update to original review *** Our most recent visit to Sushi Mountain was far from great. The chicken in the yakitori was spoiled. We flagged down the waitress, and informed her that the chicken was bad. My reason for lowering my prior review from 4 stars to 3 stars is based on their response the complaint. They actually challenged us, saying the chicken was fine .. and it's just that it was cooked on the grill following a batch of salmon skin. I've worked in restaurants and know when food has spoiled. Also my stomach knew also, as both my wife, and myself were mildly ill afterwards. I know this was only one disappointing visit out of many prior positive ones .. but was more disappointed at the way they handled a complaint from a frequent customer. I tried the sushi mountain in Ajax about two years ago and was sorely disappointed. But I figured, different location, perhaps a different experience. And this time I went for dinner, so a larger menu to choose from. My friend and I came here on a Tuesday at about 5PM. The place is very small, probably can only hold 20 people or so and was mostly empty when we arrived. It got very busy about an hour later during the dinner rush. We're no strangers to AYCE sushi, so we went to town with our usual selections. First thing... *sigh* rolls are supposed to fit into your mouth in one go. The green dragon roll is GIGANTIC. I had to eat it in two bites and that doesn't really work so well with sushi rolls. Disappointing but well flavored and tasty just the same. The spicy salmon roll was basically chopped salmon inside a roll. Boring and I hated the texture of these; if I'd known I was going to get all the ends of the salmon chopped up and thrown in with spicy sauce, I would have passed. Cheese wontons were okay, but a weird shape and odd to eat. Springrolls are hard to screw up, but man... do NOT order the beef short ribs. I was talking to my friend when I took my first bite and I've never had an entire mouth full of beef fat before. I had to spit it into my napkin. When I looked at the other beef short ribs, they were all the same. Don't serve "beef" short ribs when they're primarily 80-90% FAT. Just call them short fat ribs instead. Gross. The rest of the meal was uneventful and boring. The prices were good but the sushi was not. I'd take your business just south by the highway to Tatemono where you'll get better quality food and rolls you can actually fit into your mouth. If you have every eaten at a good ACE place you would know this was not good at all. Their meat was horrible and flavourless. Especially their BBQ ribs they were inedible! None of us could manage to shallow the whole thing, we had to spit it out. It had a very strange and disgusting flavour to it, perhaps it was it was rotten meat.. Not too sure. Their green salad was weird, usually it's more of a vinaigrette but their dressing was creamy and gross, nobody was able to finish their salad either. Their tempura sauce was bland, their tempura shrimp was one of the only thing we liked. The spider roll was also one of their better sushi rolls. My family and I have been going to this place for 10+years and never had a problem with the food or service. A couple of years ago, Ray the OWER of the Sushi Mountain in Ajax (that closed down) started working here due to being the brother of the owner of the Whitby location. I notice that whenever Ray was working the service and food was not up to par to whAt it usually is. Today was no different. The sushi was mushy, the shrimp tempura had NO shrimp in them and the miso soup tasted like water! My daughter and I could not eat the sushi! I explained to the server that the sushi did not taste right and she told me to speak to Ray. I did, and his response was too bad, no one else complained so you have to pay extra bc there was too much left over( a roll of spicy crab and salmon) Anytime I have gone to a restaurant high/low end if you say the food does not taste right, the restirant either make you a new one or not charge you. They even do that at Starbucks! If this is the future of the restaurant for food and service, I'm sorry it will not last.. like I said, we have been very loyal because we enjoyed it there. Two basic white chicks with over processed hair came for "all you can eat sushi" bro told us we ordered to much and had to pay for what we left on the plate- meanwhile he refused to believe we left food on the plate because clearly neither of us have thick luxurious dark hair that fell perfectly under the roe that was on top of the sushi- refused to pay for him to throw it out- we got banished . We were ok with that - had a laugh- also had a bigger laugh when one of us literally shit our pants before we made the 3 minute drive home. Positive side of eating here the food doesn't stay long enough with you to even get on the roster for you daily caloric intake! It's right around the corner from my house so it's often the default sushi place. Because it's not great, the service can be slow, there's so much mayo used in the rolls and the sushi temperature for the raw can be too warm. But the tempura's good and the ice cream and green salad are good. Serviceable sushi, ask them to hold the mayo. read more

This is our favorite AYCE sushi place and our regular go to spot! Lunch is $12.99 and there are many options to enjoy. The food is consistently fresh and tasty. Rice is never mushy or hard. Service is Great with friendly staff who are quick to make sure you have everything you need. The food is never over stuffed with mayo and although the rolls fill your mouth, the taste explosion is worth the trip. They never skimp on the portion of fish, in fact at times there is enough fish on the sushi for two portion. Love that its like getting sashimi at lunch. The restaurant is lovely, and Bright, surrounded by windows that are not covered, unlike other places that leaving you feeling like your eating in a dungeon. Ok so I went for lunch with a bunch of people. All you can eat. I asked if they had sashimi. They said no. So because I don't eat rice I proceeded to leave the rice bottom on plate and eat the fish. 5 minutes in, the waiter comes in and says "I can't leave the rice". That I have to eat it. I said no, I don't have to eat anything I don't want to. He said that I'd have to be charged for sashimi ( much more expensive) to which I said that was not an option so I was making the best of it. This has been our sushi spot of choice ever since moving to Whitby and we have dined here many, many times. This place has taken a turn for the worst and the quality in their food has taken a noticeable dip. The tempura bits in their spicy maki and sushi were soggy and chewy. All of the sushi and maki had a funny taste to it which is why we had to incur the food waste charge. There were no refills to the drinks which comes to be expected here. The tempura ("crispy") bits in our sushi rolls were fried in old oil. We didn't realize this at first, but there was definitely a weird taste. The sushi rolls quite soggy and oily on the inisde, and hours later, I still have an upset stomach. The soups, spring rolls and scallops were okay, nothing special. The service was also not the best. They kept bringing us the wrong dishes and each time a new dish came, the waitress basically dropped it on the table and left quickly. Didn't linger long enough to refill our waters. I have been getting takeout out dining in to this place for 5 years now, we get takeout once every two weeks. It is above average compared to other similarly priced places in Durham and Toronto. You get very good value here. The takeout is excellent 90% of the time .. however there is the odd order that has raw fish that is noticeably less fresh/less appealing (lost a star). I find that the salmon sushi has larger salmon pieces than other sushi places in the area, which is a good thing. The appatizers are all delicious as well, and dessert is included.
