Went for dinner amazing food and the place was nice. For the appetizer I ordered the crab Rangoon and my fiancé states it's the best he's had! I ordered the tres amigos and sunset roll (in picture). My fiancé ordered the volcano roll and playboy roll. We both loved our rolls!! To drink we tried the Hana sake white peach flavor and it was delicious! Overall everything was yummy! read more

If I lived closer, I'd come here more often! Seriously, some great sushi here! And the atmosphere and staff are wonderful. I love the chairs and tables, and that there are a few big screen TVs around. The only issue was, my friend and I were unaware of their regular sushi menu. We were only given the specialty roll menu, and only noticed the other menu standing upright at the end of the table, well after we ordered. My friend got the veggie roll and Mexican roll, she subbed it with chicken tempura, and I got the Volcano roll. It was filling and fresh! I'll be back here next time I'm in the area! read more

Let me tell y'all this! I don't eat sushi, never have been a fan. One day, I was simply craving it, and came across this place...The buddha sushi I can say is probably one of the best things I've ever tasted. Fried PERFECTLY, I couldn't stop eating. Great price, and a great portion. I even went back the day after to make sure I wasn't trippen..just as good! Like wow....and the crab rangoons?! Whew, hands down the best I've ever tasted. Thanks Sushi Maru! Please never take these off the menu for people that like fried sushi. read more

Overall great sushi restaurant and takeout! It's conveniently located on state road 60 in the plaza next to outback and at&t. Love the dragon roll and ramen! I've ate both inside and got takeout and they're very consistent with food quality. Never had to wait even on busy weekends. Staff is really helpful and attentive. Let me start by saying I really like Sushi Maru. As of late, I've seen quite a bit of no gloves on handling of raw fish. Also seen the sushi chef REPEATEDLY openly sneeze near the raw fish. Giving this place a break. read more

My favorite sushi in Brandon. Never disappoints. Great staff, good prices, and always fast service!

Always consistent and down right delicious. My wife and I have been ordering at sushi maru since we moved to Tampa in 2014. They have been great every single time. Even during the pandemic, they make sure you get your food hot and organized. It's such a great experience whether you eat in or take out. Galbi: probably the top Galbi around the area. The marinade definitely tastes homemade and is very flavorful. I love how you can actually taste the Korean pears that went into the marinade. 5/5 Korean sides: I don't know what it is about the sides at sushi maru, but I feel like they're the best part. The bean sprouts with sesame oil over rice is great, and I can crunch down on the pickled radish and cucumber all day. 5/5 Lunch bento boxes: these are awesome and comes with some good fried sides. read more

My boyfriend and I are typically fans of unlimited sushi places. However, Sushi Maru is FANTASTIC- from start to finish. They have great combination sushi platters if you want a little bit of everything and 2 for 1 wines. Their M-F happy hour/specials are also a great deal! To top it all off, our server was impeccable. We will be going back again - just for the quality of service and food. read more

What I really love about this place is the extensive vegetarian roll selection. I used to be a sushi fan until I started having reactions, but still wanted the sushi experience. They offer inari which is a tofu roll (firm) and it is delicious. There's avocado, asparagus, and 3 or 4 others as well. The sushi and maki roll options are numerous, including tuna, yellow tail, and salmon to nabe a few. Their menu also includes various Asian bistro items and clear and miso soups. read more

Incredible food, even better service! I've been going to Sushi Maru since they first opened in 2013 and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal or service on any of my visits. The owner Christina is just one of the many reasons I don't even bother trying other local sushi spots. She's so incredibly friendly and it really makes me feel special that she remembers my favorite dishes and if you ask for a recommendation for a new dish she can easily point you to something that should satisfy your taste buds. The decor is very modern and every seat in the place is perfect for a romantic date, business lunch or family dinner. I know I've gone on and on about the service, but the food is just as incredible. I love coming on lunch and getting the 2 or 3 roll special with a fresh bowl of Miso soup or Ginger Salad. My personal favorites are the New Tampa, Mexican, Bagel, and Buddah rolls, but if you're in the mood for some awesome Korean food you also have to try their Bulgogi. Don't waste your time at any of the other sushi places in Brandon, and honestly it's worth a drive from any place in the surrounding Tampa Bay Area. read more

Happened to be in the area with some time to spare, so I wanted some sushi and found this place. It's located in a strip mall where there is an Outback restaurant too, so the parking can be kind of tight. Upon entering it's really nice inside. Very cool ambience. The service was perfect, very nice waitress. Started off with the pork gyoza which was good. Also had various pieces of sashimi which was SUPER fresh and elegantly presented. had the plum wine sangria which was quite tasty and it was 2 for 1 which was a nice surprise. I wish I lived closer to this place, but if I'm ever back in the area I'll be sure to stop back. Highly recommended:) read more

I was starving and craving Sushi after a day of shopping. We went to Sushi Maru (my husband has been in a few times before). The restaurant had fun music and really unique tables. We were greeted and seated quickly. We ordered the ginger salad (sooo good) and spring rolls to start with. My husband and I each ordered two rolls. It was way too much food but it was delicious. I'm not usually one for sushi but I'm glad we came here. The crazy Mexican was my favorite. read more

The food was good. I felt it was pricey for what you got. I love Korean food. And I go to Sushi Maru for Korean. I really like the gal Bi. Cooked on a hot plate brought out to your table to make sure it's nice and hot the way I like it. The bulgogi is good too although it's not my go to. I do think the sushi has a lot of rice, more than I prefer. But the fish does taste good and has a great presentation. The servers are all very nice and attentive. It's a nice spot for a lunch meeting or a quiet date. I can say that I'm not a fan of the wall designs or some of the decor as I feel it takes away from the overall look. But they still get an 8.1 from me which is a little over 4 stars for me. read more

Definitely a must for anyone who loves sushi/Korean/Japanese. Also a great place for anyone who wants to try these types of food but doesn't know anything about it. Went really late on a Friday night to get some sushi and sake. Place was fairly empty and was seated by the sushi station. Only reason I give this place 3 stars was because the waitress had to deal with the sushi cooks heckling. That was annoying, but she didn't put up with it. The sake tasted like rubbing alcohol and was hard to drink for someone who likes hot sake! The firecracker roll was alright but the fried rice was not. It lacked flavor and was a little too sticky. read more

Very good service. Minimal wait for the sushi rolls and they were very fresh. I will most definitely be coming back. The waitress was also friendly and considerate of us and our toddler. It was an overall pleasant experience. read more

Came here to meet a friend after a long day. M-Th they have a 5-8pm special on rolls so I ordered the volcano, wasabi, and red dragon roll. Let me begin by saying that having grown up in Los Angeles has spoiled me in terms of high quality sushi. As a result I am slightly more critical when it comes to eating sushi anywhere else. This spot knows how to make some legit sushi. The spicy tuna, which restuarants often cheat by just using sriracha, was legit at sushi maru. The yellow tail, which can be a challenge to incorporate into rolls b/c of its mild flavor was amazing and had the right amount of wasabi for kick but didn't overpower the yellowtail. Lastly, the volcano, which is a popular title for many rolls, made with different ingredients depending on where you go, was excellent. Cream cheese can be overused and maybe a giant filler for some roles to cut costs elsewhere. In this case, sushi maru adds just enough to add the flavor necessary to make this roll probably my favorite of the night. I have a fairly large appetite so three rolls was the perfect amount. The service here is great and friendly. Anything you need at anytime can be accomplished at the push of a button. I'll be coming here during my stop in Tampa no doubt. read more

Why 4 stars? I have to say this was a great little lunch stop. I was craving sushi and this hit the spot perfectly. Staff was friendly, prices were not horrible for sushi and the fish itself was fresh. The menu has a good variety and you will not leave disappointed with whatever you pick. We sat at the bar and it was fun watching them prepare each order with ease and precision. I would love to come back and try other items and go for the 5th star! read more

This is one of the best hidden gems in the Brandon/Valrico area, it also is one of my top 3 favorite sushi places in the Tampa Bay area. I have been just about once a week, since we discovered it a few months ago. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. We normally sit at the sushi bar usually and they give us samples of new rolls that they are experimenting with. The food, all fresh and delicious. I enjoy the tuna nachos and gyoza to start. My go to rolls are Red Dragon, Sake rotika, Wasabi, and Caliente (I clearly enjoy a kick in my food). The sashimi is all very good and fresh. We have ordered the tuna, salmon, eel, octopus, and uni. Even the fried ice cream does not disappoint. They have a good deal M-Th for rolls. Along with a BOGO Sake and Beer/Wine happy hour. I highly recommend this sushi bar! read more

In town looking at colleges my daughter and used yelp to locate sushi restaurant close to our hotel. Sushi Maru his the spot. Sushi fresh and flavorful. Order was correct and ready at the given time. For years we have come to the restaurant as it's one of our favorites even though we live in Lakeland, but today we had a very unpleasant experience as a hair came out in my food, it was under the sushi and I only noticed it when I was finishing my plate We complained and they said that that hair didn't belong to anyone in the restaurant, clearly it was not mine because I am blonde, curly and have long hair, the hair that came out on my plate was black, straight and short. It was very unpleasant for me and very bad timing that the restaurant refused to respond for that incident, we paid the entire bill and left the restaurant very angry, clearly we will never back read more

Always good! Dragon roll, playboy, pretty in pink, and banzai are my usual go-tos but tbh I've never been disappointed

I'm having a hard time coming up with the right words for this restaurant. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the servers were really friendly...even though one was eating during her shift. Between bringing food out, she would sit down and eat. That's kind of how the whole vibe was. It felt like the owners wanted cheap help, so they got young kids to run the place. I have never been to a sushi place blaring dance music in the afternoon. Zero stars for ambience 2 stars for food 2 stars for service read more

Most delicious sushi! Staff is awesome. The sake Rotika is my favorite. They also have delicious short ribs.

Stopped here on my way to Tampa since the sushi place I wanted to go to was closed, and I'm so happy I found this place! Between the two of us, we ordered a Buddha roll, Mt Fuji roll, Super Mexican roll & a Diablo roll, plus potstickers and crab Rangoon to start with. Everything was delicious; from the crab Rangoon that had a good amount of crab in it and not too much cream cheese, to the spiciness of the Diablo roll and the crunchiness of the Buddha roll. Also, they gave us so much sushi, we should have only ordered 3 rolls for the two of us. I'm in Riverview a few times a year, so I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area. read more

Delish sushi! Don't be leery of location -- it's great food and service is good too. They have a lot of great sushi combinations and the seaweed salad is yummy. Great place for lunch (yes they have lunch specials) or date night/ladies night out. read more

We were excited about coming here because of all the good reviews. Sadly we left very disappointed. The service was really bad. We sat at the sushi bar but the waitress insisted upon us ordering everything through her which was fine...but she was inattentive, did not clear plates, etc let alone tell us about the available fish specials. She got annoyed when the sushi chef made suggestions and took orders for uni, toro, etc. She forgot our miso soup and when I asked her to remove it from the bill because we never received. she brought us a half cup in a to go box...which was really not the point as we wanted it with our meal. Wine pour was maybe 4 oz. There is a good selection of wines and sakes. On a positive note the atmosphere is great and although there are only a few seats at the sushi bar, its lively. The fatty toro was very good. The uni tasted of harsh chemicals and should be avoided. Dinner for two was $135 with 2 rolls, 4 sashimi, 2 wines and the MP fatty tuna ($21/order). Imo the fatty tuna although good was double what Tampa Bay prices command. We probably will not return. read more

Lord knows, I do not eat out ANYWHERE WITHOUT first researching yelp. I found this place searching by proximity. I just had to see what place had nearly perfect rating. A SUSHI JOINT WITH KOREAN FUSION?? ERRR...WELL JUST TAKE ALL MY MONEY WHY DON'T YA? I stopped in after a little shopping on my way home. I ordered the Dynamite Roll and Mt. Fuji. I won't lie. I GOT MY ENTIRE LIFE FROM EATING THIS FOOD! ALLL OF IT! THE BAN CHAN AND BOTH ROLLS!! ERRRRMUH GAWDT!! (It was quite a bit of food so I had left overs for the next day. The rolls can be shared in my opinion) I started talking to one of the girls that works here named Christine and she was just a sweet as can be. Look...THIS SUSHI IS AHHHMAAZZINGGGG!!!! THE SERVICE IS GREAT!! However, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention price. Uh...$13 COLD HARD ones for both rolls I ordered. It's a little pricey. Even for good sushi. (I was about to require some after hours action from myself when the food rang up. Sheesh) This is a good quality establishment and by next year, I will be able to claim them on my taxes. Plenty of my money will be spent here. I want some as I type this. UGH! I can't wait to go back!! read more
