For about 2 years now, they intentionally add almost NO dressing to the chicken avocado salad so you are obligated to pay for extra dressing. It's ridiculously small the amount they put on it nowadays. I used to order from there every week, not anymore. $17 for the salad when they add almost zero dressing. Thumbs down! read more

Poblano soup served with cheese and corn tortilla chips. That's pretty much all you need. The only thing that would make it better is if they gave refills. It was the perfect bit of spice and creaminess. It was divine. Oh wait, sushi. No, that's OK. Three vegetarians at the table so we opted for the cucumber salad (minus the crab), vegetable rice, and the veggie roll #2. The cucumber salad was super fresh and crisp. It was topped with a sweet and tangy vinaigrette and sesame seeds. It was yummy. Definitely a good pairing with the soup for a light lunch. But we got more. The fried rice was good, but not out of this world or anything. It had some wonderfully crispy veggies and was seasoned well, but it was otherwise not memorable. The veggie roll was also good. It was jam packed with tons of veggies: lettuce, zucchini, carrots, asparagus, and many more, stuffed with cream cheese, and topped with avocado. I thought it was both refreshing, but a little on the heavy side. Although this sushi joint doesn't serve wasabi with the rolls, there was a dish of jalapeños marinated in soy sauce and probably another sauce which gives it a spicy, but mellow flavor. This is my favorite thing about sushi places in Laredo. I topped my roll with this magical elixir and the roll was heavenly. It definitely helped cut the heaviness of the cream cheese. Our service was also good. Our server was attentive and prompt. Probably a little on the formal side, I'd say. He kept our drinks full, table clean, and although the dishes were brought out separately, this gave us time to try each individually. Overall, this place was terrific. The soup!!! Heard this place a lot for the past few months while living here and by that I meant the radio station. I'm not a local, I'm from out of state and trust me. I've been eating sushi for a long time and I expected it to be authentic Japanese sushi. Which has no cream cheese. I'm not a cream cheese fan either, that suppose to be on my New York Bagel not in my sushi. Now it was time that I was really, /really/ craving sushi and I had to call in to make sure they can do my orders without cream cheese. Of course they said yes, customer first and they meant it. When my friend and I got there, it was pretty pack, full house but we managed to get a booth. Were seated right away, menu and friendly hostess until our waitress came. Now I'm an English speaking woman, who also speak fluent Vietnamese and Chinese. No Spanish what so ever and our server spoke Spanish and no English. I wasn't mad it's just hard for me to understand and afraid my order was going to be wrong. We couldn't get another server because it was getting busy so my friend translated the whole dinner and I wrote down all my rolls and adding NO CREAM CHEESE on each one. About twenty minutes later, my rolls came out and man o man it looks so good! *by the way* the fish were pretty fresh to me, like they get it every morning because the color of the salmon and tuna on my sushi was the right color I was looking for. Hence the five star. If you're not use to eating raw fish, I suggested you eat the pickled ginger right after you eat a piece. Helps. Wasbi too but again their wasbi wasn't strong like the ones I eat in L.A. or Brea. Definitely coming back here for more sushi. Keep up the good work and services, it's a bit hard to find a place here that accommodate good food and great hospitality. Hopefully it stays like this. read more

The website needs to be updated! I was craving Sushi Madre and I went online to try and order some for later tonight. I saw the option to get delivery and selected 10pm. As I was choosing my meals, the website advised me that I could no longer get delivery service anymore until tomorrow. Please fix your website to advise the customer the last time they can order food and get it delivered. Instead of having the customer pick their meals, get their hopes up, and wonder what went wrong. read more

The atmosphere seems quite chill here. The menu has so many choices of sushi: tempura, breaded, fresh. I've seen about 36 different rolls on the menu. They have plates, appetizers, and salads as well. I had the lucky roll and was very satisfied. I didn't feel hungry after. I really love sushi and there sushi is absolutely delicious it's a different than other places but I think with a Mexican twist . The fried rice is very tasty and not over cooked . Worst experience! Our waiter never came to check on us. She had someone else bring our food and take our payment and still wanted us to leave a tip. While walking out she was standing with other coworkers looking at us with a ugly face. She had an attitude like she did not want to be there or be our waiter. This was the worst experience we've had and we're regular costumers. Our waiters name was lulu. I would suggest going to another sushi madre which is what we will be doing. read more

Welllllll, turns out homeboy doesn't know English and completely jacked up our order. Started with cucumber salad that was promising because they stacked the crab! Awesome. Then I had a tempura roll which was ok I guess. Honestly the only thing I could taste was cream cheese. I asked for the combo but wanted soup instead of rice. Dude brings me rice. No soup. My (white boy) husband ordered a poke bowl (pointed to picture) with NO cilantro and a philly roll. They bring him a philly roll smothered with cilantro. No poke bowl ever arrived. What the heck? I've never in my life seen a cilantro philly. I guess now I can't say that anymore. Ask for wasabi, don't need ginger....brings the ginger. When we first arrived no one greeted us. I had to kinda "claim" a dirty table and sat because it would've been weird to just stand next to it. I didn't see anyone that would fit the description of a manager on the premises. Who knows.... ‍. I am not from Laredo but everybody there loves sushi. The thing is, its not traditional sushi they love, they love Laredo sushi. Before you start sending your expectations anywhere on a magic raw seafood journey, realize most everything available will be cooked or fried. That said, there are plenty of good choices and even some with traditional rolls, sushi, and sashimi. I went for lunch and they had a combo which included the roll, a very well prepared cucumber salad and some sort of dry fried rice. The rolls themselves are large and filling, I would recommend ordering a little bit at a time. Service was great, our server was very attentive and helpful. The price is what you would expect at a sushi place, although there are some really bad values on the menu depending on what you order. This is not my first time here nor the first time I've had problems with ordering. I have nothing to complain about food wise but, I asked for a server who spoke English and they sent me someone who only knew Spanish. I asked for someone else to help them get my order correct and they got another lady who only knew Spanish. I ended up getting what I had gotten on a previous visit and still having to point at the menu so they knew what I wanted. I like to try new things but not being able to communicate with the staff to ask what is in certain dishes is a real downside to this place. I know they have servers that are bilingual but I guess not that day. Hopefully I'll have better luck next time as I love their food. read more

If you woulda asked me four years ago what I thought about Sushi Madre it would have definitely been five stars. Now I can say that they've got their peak. The quality of food and service is pretty mediocre. The rice was overly greasy, rather than using chives in the miso soup they just said fuck it and topped it with some onions, the chipotle sauce has destroyed my plate with its dominating mayonnaise sauce. Yikes. It's not horrible but for a restaurant with so much hype it's pretty anticlimactic. All of the Sushi rolls (especially the fresh rolls) have absolutely no creativity when it comes to the recipes and are pretty much the same. All in all sushi madre needs to step it up with the quality of their food and service. read more

I love sushi madre and am a frequent customer at their other locations but have been to this sushi madre 5 times and I have never had a positive experience. I just left this restaurant after only taking one bite of my sushi because the giant air vents that are visible were dropping dirty condensation water droplets all over my food and my shirt. After asking for a new plate, they come and tell me that if I want a new plate, I have to switch tables. I asked for a plate to go and I don't think I will eat it. The seaweed tasted old and was very hard to chew. The waitress took over 20 minutes to bring our tabs, and this is one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a while. Loved the food. Seriously wonderful but some of the portions are ridiculously huge. I ordered tempura, hoping to get the standard one person fare as it was VERY inexpensive and the brought me a platter full of fried tempura. TOO MUCH, peeps!
