Wow! Dessert sushi?! I've never had anything like it before, but when I saw it on the menu...I was sold. I don't typically order dessert but I wasn't passing this one up. Especially because I absolutely love strawberry based desserts. I have no idea why more places don't do dessert sushi. They're really missing out! The other rolls I got were fresh and delicious as well...but even if you're not a sushi person, it's worth dropping in, just for dessert! . This is definitely a spot to try. I was in Laredo for a week-long conference, and I was able to visit Sushi Madre twice during that week. My first visit I had Mixed Yakisoba and it was a huge portion and so delicious. Our server recommended a new item on the menu called Tostada Padre, available in time for Father's Day. I went with her suggestion and was not disappointed. It was one of the most delicious appetizers I have had in my life. The second time I visited Sushi Madre I had the Arroz Madre and I have to say it wasn't as delicious as the Yakisoba. If you are anywhere in the Laredo area, you have to visit sushi Madre. read more

Food was good , had the poblano and miso soups with the chicken avocado salad all were good just not a 5. Service was spotty, three different servers, one noticed wife tea was empty and ask if she wanted more, the third one turned the wrong dessert in for my wife ,after she orders by picture on one page and the one she served was on the back page , ( On Purpose You Think?). All were female. Facility was clean and servers were professionally attired , but did not speak (hardly speak English). Finally made it to this place. Food was good but that service by our waitress Dulce Maria was less than her sweet name. She forgot half out order, was more concerned about serving a bigger table. Never came around for refills. We asked help from another waitress and even like tall that we got no help. She forgot our crab salad. Not being a Crabby Karen but we were hungry and did not appreciate the attitude. She finally brings our cucumber crab salads and proceeds to say, " here are your salads that I brought out before". She checks with the sushi chef and says they were prepared and sent out. Again we tell her, if they were prepared, they were given to someone else". I have waited and been in the service industry. $34.50 wasted on tough over-cooked salmon in our Salmon Avocado and tough under-cooked noodles in our Chicken Yakisoba! When I called to let Sushi Madre know about the inedible food we received in our online take-out order on 01/14/23, and ask them to either offer us a refund for these two dishes, or a credit toward a future order, the shift manager took my name and number and said that the manager would call me back. He or she never called me back. Our family have been customers of this Sushi Madre restaurant at 7124 Bob Bullock Loop, Laredo, TX 78041 for seven years. We spent $109.86 on food for five people in this order. I politely explained that we would not be coming back to their restaurant again if they did not offer us some refund or credit on these two dinner items which were ruined by their chef. They must not care that they are alienating faithful, long-term customers. I cannot recommend their food or their customer service. In fairness, if they ever do respond to my justifiable complaint and offer me any kind of apology or future credit, I will adjust this 1 star review. read more

Having been eating here for sometime but the more I eat sushi at other places like San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Miami, and Mcallen, Texas I have found this is very mediocre tasting sushi. Rolls are ok but don't have the taste of some other sushi places I have visited. Sushi madre is just ok and if you are having sashimi or nigiri it's ok. But some of their rolls are not appealing and lack in flavor. Fried rice is ok, but tastes a bit too buttery/oily and lacks that good fried rice flavor. Not sure I will be visiting anymore. Tried this place on Sunday with my family. My nephew has been wanting me to try this for awhile now and boy am I glad we did!!! We all had different dishes and I enjoyed trying them all. We had an appetizer of tempura fried veggies--tasty! I ordered pork eggrolls to complement my beef and noodles dish. To sum it up--the food was DA BOMB!!! Great customer service was also provided. Came here even though other users gave it mediocre reviews. Can't say I share their sentiment, staff was extremely friendly and tentative. Food arrived quickly, it was fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and had just the right amount of sauce to coat the dish without becoming a soup. This is probably the poorest sushi experience I've ever had. The service was horrible and it was a complete let down.

Ok ok... Let get into it. I arrived in Laredo just about dinner-time, really didn't know what I was in the mood for.... pass by this plaza. The lights on the sign from this one restaurant caught my eye so I pulled in. Sushi! If you know me you know I love me some sushi so I had to give it a try. Right off the bat you can tell that this restaurant barely open they had the new fresh smell going on in the place. So make a long story short the sushi was not great but it was not bad. The menu have lots of rolls that I've never heard of, but I get it I think they're catering to the area which it's in. (Laredo) when you come to Laredo Texas you do not think "sushi"... Lol. My only two gripes about the restaurant the sushi rolls were very poorly rolled and the entire staff only spoke Spanish. Now don't get me wrong I understand the area that I'm in but I'm pretty sure not all the customers will only speak Spanish that will visit this place. But great location right near an airport. The restaurant is immaculate very clean and it looks like a real sushi bar. My waiter wasn't too knowledgeable of the menu but I think this place will do just fine with better staff, and someone with a little bit more experience rolling out the sushi. But not bad on first impression. I give this place only 3 stars because presentation was great, location was great, restaurants very clean and bathrooms are very clean but the food is just okay and service needs a little help. This sounded so good. The menu rocked. I am looking so forward to finally getting my order. I arrived at 12:10 and was seated immediately. Then had to wait 15 minutes before I finally flagged down a waiter who took my order at 12:27. It's now 1:03 and I'm still waiting. Place isn't too busy, several tables open. I'll give two stars as I'm sure the food is fantastic assuming I'm willing to wait too much longer to get it. 1:05, 1:07, manager just rolled by. Told her I'd been waiting forever. I've had other stuff in their menu like the fried rice, which was also quite enjoyable. The waiters are attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant. I really enjoyed this sushi. It's definitely what I call Mexican sushi. I had the chipotle roll... Crab, cream cheese, avocado, hot sauce... All in tempura. Last night, my friend & I were there for dinner. The service was slow. I know it takes time to make sushi but it was more than that. Every phase of the meal was slow. The sushi was served warm. Uncooked sushi should be cool to cold when served. When the food came, I had been served a sushi roll on which one of the types of fish had spoiled. We alerted the waiter, who brought the manager. The manager argued with me that the fish was not spoiled, that she had checked it all earlier and it was fine. It tasted like mold. It didn't taste like red snapper. I didn't have to pay for the roll; that was good. But my concern is they would continue to serve that fish and people would get sick. read more

When I got one bite, I realized that why my friends didn't recommend their sushi. It was NOT fresh at all and no taste as well. When I came back to home, my stomach started to get pain. My first time going to this location and definitely the last. Food was good. They always have good specials. Waiter was an older gentleman, who wasn't wearing a name tag, so I wasn't able to catch his name, but he was extremely rude to me. I ordered a Dos XX, and I asked him if he needed to see me I.D. He rudely replied to me with " If that makes you feel better." We had started out with Poblano Soup as appetizers, and 5 minutes later, the manager informed us that they were out and needed to go to another location to pick some up. She didn't even offer us anything else, which she should've because of the inconvenience. The only good thing I would give this location is just the food specials, & the fact that they gave my niece a dessert for her birthday, which every restaurant does. A very great and savory place to eat with your most comfortable clothes on. Servers are extremely courteous and nice to customers. They make you feel good eating there. Now the food will blow you out of your expectations, it is delicious and different than any other sushi place. Food is that weird Mexican version of sushi....it's not necessarily bad, but... The servers are lazy, and most barely speak English. It would be funny to see I.N.S. show up and watch what happens. N.S.A., are you paying attention? Tried phoning in an order once, but the menu on their website didn't work. I gently tried to explain to the woman? who answered the phone and she proceeded to try to tell me how Google works. I explained I didn't need Google, that I was on their actual website and the menu didn't work. That concept seemed lost to her and she didn't seem real concerned so I cancelled what I had attempted to order and called Emperor Garden instead. I walked in and was seated by a very polite host, they got me my drink and I waited...,................,............ 20 mins no one bothered to take my order food looked great too bad no one took my order. I went to the front asked how much o owed for the ice tea they looked at me funny that's when I told them I was seated in a booth and after my drink no one bothered to take my order. The young lady wanted to make it up by taking my order there. I asked why did everyone after me get their order taken at their table? Obviously this was not the norm. I really like eating at Sushi Madre, the food is good and the portions are good as well. If there was anything they could improve on its the tea both sweet and unsweetened, they taste metallic at times, it can be very off putting. I do have one major complaint however, on several occasions when I pick up food or eat in, the owner I suppose or manager is doing business in the front at the register/pick up area. Today she was was on a business call arguing with the person on the phone and cutting paychecks. She always has the computer out with business information on the screen for everyone to see. I usually have to walk around to the other side to pick up my food. Shouldn't there be an office specifically for that, and what's the point of having a pick up area if your going to use it as your office. It's highly inconvenient and rude to subject customers to your business affairs while they're trying to enjoy their dining experience. read more
