I love me some sushi!!! ...I can eat this all the time and Sushi Kuchi is one of my favorite sushi spots to go to. Between this location and Mission Valley, they never let me down. I always get the Play Boy Roll, Sweet Hawaiian Roll, White Boy Roll and my absolute favorite Vegas Roll! ...tasty, yet satisfying. The service is always great and super friendly. I like to dine in for their 50% off on the rolls and go during lunch time for a less crowded meal. I am already thinking of my next visit for the Vegas Roll!

I got the salmon skin tempura, spicy edamame , and the tornado 151. I really enjoyed my food, the waiter was super helpful, and attentive to us. While the food was good, we got a roll (star wars roll) that seemed frozen or something because it was slightly tough. The manager was kind enough and didn't charge us for it. Much appreciated! Other than that the food tasted pretty good. Highly recommend the cooked rolls.

We finally stopped by after having numerous people recommend us this location. Service was amazing, the young lady was really attentive. It was just us and another party during lunch hour. Our food came out relatively fast. We were impressed by the size of the sushi rolls, they are definitely meant to be shared. Our favorites were the deep fried ones, they had such a great crunchy consistency that paired perfectly with the creaminess of the filling. We ordered a ramen, but we were disappointed when we realized it was just top ramen nothing extra was added to make it special. We sent it back, didn't make a big deal about it nor did we request for it to be taken off our check. Once we paid and looked at our check on our way out we realized the young girl took it off our bill. This was a gesture that was appreciated and speaks highly of their customer service. The music playing in the background was a great 2000s playlist. This is definitely a place you want to visit during lunch hour to avoid to crowds and come ready to eat.

Kuchi Sushi is one of my go to sushi spots. The fish tastes fresh, the rolls are well prepared, and the service has always been friendly. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to enjoy a casual meal. Only downside is the parking lot can get pretty crowded.

First time trying this place. Door Dashed a couple rolls: Bad Boy Roll and Vegas Roll. Sushi pieces were thick. The Vegas Roll was delicious and fulfilling. Bad Boy roll was also good, liked how the lemon slices were thin so it was edible. Docking a few stars, it would have been nice to have chopsticks and soy sauce packets with my order. Also, I haven't dined so I can't comment on the visual experience of the location. I did like how they packed a big serving of ginger, my fave. Thank You Sushi Kuchi!

Delicious deep fried sushis. Staff is very nice and restaurant is clean. Nice outside seating.

Sushi Kuchi is a great place to get delicious sushi in San Diego.Sushi rolls were very tasty. Good service , helpful and beyond, food is also served quickly and efficiently. The restaurant has a wide variety of rolls to choose from, as well as sashimi, nigiri, and other Japanese dishes. We tried rolls and sashimi and every one of them was very good , fresh and well prepared, the prices are very reasonable and clean place!

Sushi was very fresh and you can tell it was made very authentically and proportionately acceptable. I was surprised at how cute the bathroom was decorated too. Definitely gave off the San Diego aesthetics. The service was amazing and got seated as soon as we walked in.

My first time and i have been a San Diegan Half my life i am ashamed i did not stop by here earlier Must some friends visiting from out of town and just had some good drinks. Happy hour i believe and the beer of choice was Sapporo Will come back to try the food and add a star :)

The food here never disappoints. I've been here dozens of times over the past couple of years, decided it was time to write a review. The service is fast- whether you're picking up to go or dining in! Everyone is kind, the atmosphere is open and welcoming. Absolutely favorite sushi in SD. Prices are reasonable! Will be back sooner than later, & then again later haha.

Nice place to grab some sushi. For taste, everything we got was good but nothing really stood out to me as amazing or terrible. The size of the sushi itself was super big kinda hard to eat. Presentation was very nice. Tried a new beer called Krush which was super refreshing. The staff is super friendly and kept checking up on us. As for the menu, the rolls itself is pretty "cheap" because it's marked at 50% off basically everything however I would wish they just took that off and put the regular prices to make it easier to calculate the total.

My first time here and everything was so good. Service was so fast and our waiter was nice. The salmon nigiri was so big, fresh, and delicious. I also really liked the play boy and bad boy roll. Would definitely come back!

    Jenna C.

I love to come to Sushi Kuchi. My favorites are the Vegas roll and jalapeño poppers - they hit it out of the park every time. Most of their other rolls are standard and the nigiri is solid. When the quality is off, the servers are helpful to try to fix the problem. Their other noodles and rice bowls are average. Every time I've come here the service is great and the wait time for food isn't too long. The 50% prices are good (expensive for their premium rolls). But the parking can be really difficult during the evening, especially on the weekends so I usually park a few blocks away and walk.

We were seated at the bar, which ended up being such a vibe--we got to chat with the girl behind the bar and watch her make lattes and desserts right in front of us. That kind of interaction really sets this place apart. Price: [4.5/5] It's on the pricier side, but honestly it feels fair given the quality of food you're getting. You can taste where your money is going. Food/Drinks: [5/5] Matcha Latte -- We shared one, extra sweet at my request, and it was perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for. Chef Soichi's Karaage -- We had this as an appetizer and my boyfriend made a point to say this is the closest he's had to traditional Japanese karaage. High praise from someone who's passionate about his Japanese culture. Hayashi Omurice -- This is their most popular dish and it's easy to see why. The demi-glaze has a really unique flavor that ties the whole dish together beautifully. This was my pick and I'd order it again without hesitation. Guratan -- My boyfriend's order, and it was incredibly creamy and delicious. We were both too stuffed for dessert by the end, which says a lot about the portion sizes. Ambience: [5/5] The restaurant is small, but honestly that's part of what makes it so charming. Pink everywhere with wooden accents and cherry blossoms throughout (very fitting)--it's cozy, homey, and just really well put together. The intimate size adds to the appeal rather than taking away from it. Overall Experience: [5/5] Hatsuzakara was such a wonderful first experience. Yes, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated arriving at 7:30 on a Friday night but for a waitlist-only spot this small, that's actually a pretty reasonable wait by San Diego standards. The food, the atmosphere, and the staff more than made up for it. Already looking forward to coming back to try the curry and work through their dessert menu.

I feel like everything looked really good, so it was hard to decide what to order. The dishes have small portion size despite the price. I think this kinda helps in that you have room to eat dessert! The brown sugar Okinawa tea was good but the after taste of the sugar was not good. They kept the tea pot warm, and they served oat milk on the side. Karaage had too much chicken skin for my preference. Guratan was penne pasta and not macaroni as specified in the menu. Yakisoba could have used more chicken. Omurice had the more flavor and the egg was really good. I want to try naporitan next time because of the tomato based sauce. Of the desserts I tried, the parfait was most enjoyable because of the fruit with ice cream. The mushi pudding was good; it was the thick and "hard" type of flan. I want to try kakigori next time because I saw their shaved ice machine was legit. Parking - free street parking only. Be prepared to walk up/downhill. When it came to the rolls, there were so many good ones to choose from, I'll have to come back to try more of them. We went with the Sanji's roll and the Buldak roll. The ramen was the absolute winner. Best ramen I have had in San Diego. I was blown away by the broth and the noodles. The sushi was great, including the spicy tuna. Everything tasted fresh and fairly priced. You really can't beat these prices. The fried chicken and tuna carpaccio were standout appetizers. Honorable mention to the chicken katsu roll. It was insanely massive and so good. We will absolutely be back to try more appetizers and the ramen. We recently went to Japan and this ramen has been the closest we have had to what we experienced there. I didn't even take a picture of it before it was in my stomach!

Located in a small shopping center with a few parking spaces, Tanuki is a great tapas and standard sushi spot. It leans more toward Asian‑fusion tapas with some sushi rolls and a limited selection of nigiri and sashimi. If you're looking for specialty fish, a huge roll list, or omakase, this isn't that kind of sushi place. But if you want a wide selection of sake, fun fusion tapas, and some classic sushi options, this is your spot. I love that they have a small bar and that cozy, true hole‑in‑the‑wall feel. The staff is friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and it's the perfect place to come alone, with a friend, or for a casual date night. The quality is solid, and the service is fast and welcoming. They also have some great sake and green‑tea‑based drinks. I love it here -- definitely a go‑to spot for us.

Based on reviews, the Sake Wasa appeared to be popular so we gave it a try. I'm not a big fan of wasabi but this one was good. The crispy rice, salmon carpaccio, roasted striped bass, spicy scallop roll, spider roll . . . All good. The fish was fresh and they were all light. Also ordered a panna cotta and matcha cheesecake - both were good as well and nice way to finish our meal. At no time did we feel rushed. Service was friendly and they checked on us often.
