Service was great. Ambiance was cool. Food was good however they are a little heavy with the salt and soy sauce. I would definitely come back for the volcano roll.

Our waiter was awesome - so patient with our silliness LoL My sushi, edamame, fried wontons, and Hibachi Scallops were all delicious. My friend enjoyed her cheeseburger, as well. Our drinks were refreshing, too! Nice casual atmosphere in a great location - right across from the Norva! Check them out! PS I did go once before with my family for my son's high school graduation, and we all enjoyed the All You Can Eat deal then as well :0)

So I'd gone to the Norva not to long ago and didn't know there was a Sushi King in this area of Norfolk. Whelp today I was there for a family members bday celebration and I absolutely loved it. The ambiance is very calming, elegant and overall beautiful. The food was great and I was stuffed. Our waitress was good as well for a nice size party. There was 9 of us today. I left satisfied and I'd definitely return. We were also allowed to reserve our table the day before and that aided in availability for a larger group of people. Ate my steak and chicken hibachi too fast sorry didn't get to snap a pic but hey the food was good so that's a plus.

Love the small portions! I'm not being sarcastic. Anytime I do AYCE, I want to try as many variations as possible, so I really appreciate the small portions. Ironically, as a sushi buffet, the sushi rolls were my least favorite. It wasn't bad, just tasted like what you'd get at a grocery, but I did enjoy the raw black pepper tuna and tuna martini. We went on a Saturday lunch, it wasn't packed, food came quickly, staff were super friendly. For the price we paid for, definitely worth it! The hibachis were our favorite. I gave it a five star as I'd go back again and I do recommend it. Just don't expect gourmet sushi and you'd be pleasantly surprised.

Service is horrible for an all you can eat. It takes forever to get your food. Food is delicious though but the wait time for the server to come just doesn't add up. Also, the sushi in the picture look like somebody finished on them.

the service was horrible. it took an hour for us to get our food and when i got my food it was super bland like the sushi rolls were like something i could get at walmart

It's not what it used to be. I found the Granby Street location to be the best in Hampton Roads. I recently visited and was shocked at the difference in atmosphere and food experience. On a weekday around lunchtime we were 1 of four other tables present. FIVE tables total at lunchtime. The manager sat us, served us, bused us and checked us out. The rolls were slow to come out and the hibachi plates were barely tapas portions. It's like they've given up but the doors are still open for business. I hope they can turn it around because pre- Covid this was a fun fast food type sushi place great location to gather and relax.

Since the pandemic started, AYCE sushi was the food that we were craving the most. AYCE sushi is not something you can order to go. We've been to Sushi King 5 years ago and we never really come back because for as there are better AYCE sushi restaurants in the area (espceially at Chesapeake). However during the phase 2 of the covid reopening, Sushi King is the only restaurant that is open for dine in (honestly I'm scared of the virus, but we haven't had AYCE sushi for 3 months, it was time). The first thing I was that they were really not very strict with covid safety precautions. Their waiting area was small and there were like 12 people waiting and sitting on the bench. I don't see anyone sanitizing. I also noticed that they do not have disposable menus. I know it's our fault for not staying home when I am scared of the virus, but this is such a huge turn off for me. The meal was good. We enjoyed our sushis and rolls. I just wished they have more deep fried sushi rolls on their menu. I wasn't a fan of their Las Vegas rolls, but the spider roll, volcano roll, and the shrimp tempura roll. However I noticed that their spider roll looked nothing like the picture on their menu. The staff was friendly and helpful. They answered my questions and offered some recommendations. I don't know if we'll still be back. Sushi King is still our least favorite place of all the AYCE sushi restaurants in town.

Service was solid the waiter always checked on the table with in reasonable time. The food was okay chicken fried rice was good but all the sushi tasted the same to me and I tried 4 different rolls.

SKIP Kotobuki in Norfolk - Worst Sushi Experience EVER…read more Kotobuki in Ghent is a disaster. I gave this long-running spot a second chance, after a poor first experience, and it was a mistake. A friend insisted we return, and the service was shockingly bad, the sushi was subpar and the overall experience was the worst. From the moment you walk in, Kotobuki screams neglect: dead plants, servers dressed like they're doing yard work and a pervasive smell of old fry oil. We had reservations for the "traditional Japanese" sunken-table room, where we removed our shoes and climbed into our seats. One dirty pair of slippers sat at our table, while a random pair of construction boots lay abandoned nearby. The "ambiance" was completed by 70s soft rock -- Lionel Richie instead of "traditional Japanese" music. Our server took my order for a dirty Stoli martini, then disappeared for an absurd amount of time only to return and say they couldn't make it -- with no explanation. We hunted through the limited menu while our server vanished completely. The owner eventually stopped by, and I had to specifically request a sushi list. Tired of sitting cross-legged, I briefly put my feet into the pit under the table. Rather than place my bare feet on the filthy floor, I slipped my shoes back on for a moment. That's when the owner's daughter stormed over and aggressively accused me of saying, "Screw you and screw Kotobuki -- I'm not following the rules!" She launched into a rude, insulting lecture about "Japanese custom" while I sat there stunned. I immediately took my shoes off again, just to de-escalate, but the evening was ruined. No customer should be verbally assaulted over something as basic as not wanting bare feet on an obviously dirty floor. In an awkward position, not wanting to ruin the evening, I ordered my food. The sake was watery and flavorless, the house salad was sad, wilted iceberg lettuce drowning in bottled ginger dressing, and the sushi arrived lukewarm with questionable rice that called for a palate blinding amount of wasabi. It was boring, poorly prepared, and far below average. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Hand to God! Had this not been a special evening with a dear friend, I would have walked out the second the owner's daughter chastised me at the table. Management at Kotobuki clearly doesn't care about customer service or basic standards -- especially when family members are allowed to treat patrons this way. "Japanese tradition" doesn't excuse poor hygiene, rude staff or substandard food. In America, we have health codes for a reason. If you want decent sushi in Norfolk, go literally anywhere else. Kotobuki is just a lazy dive. There's nothing special on the menu, very little sushi selection and nobody seems to care. If you choose to ignore this warning, lower your expectations folks, you are about to be disappointed. The only thing good about this restaurant, is the opportunity to tell you how much it sucked.

The menu prices are a couple bucks more than other places I've tried, but keeping an open mind. I ordered the "Bento Special" it comes with soup, salad, rice, half calif roll and your choice of protein. I ordered the shrimp tempura. Also ordered side of salmon roll. The tago container gives a nice presentation. But let's move in to the food. The salad dressing was okay it seemed a little watered down not much flavor. Soup was good and tasty. California roll was fine. The assortment of tempura was nice, but you get 2pcs of shrimp. All in all the Bento Special was pretty okay! Now going on with my side of salmon roll. Well, I always take a pic so you all can see the ratio if rice and protein. And look st my pic. Too much rice! I had to even take some out of the roll. I will probably tell them half of rice in my sushi roll. All in all ...I will come back and try their other dishes, and make sure to tell them to cut down on the rice for the rolls.

Under those circumstances, it would be reasonable to expect that the quality of the food and service might not be up to par. But that wasn't the case at all - everything was excellent. Our waitress informed us that the Uni( sea urchin) was fresh. It was exquisite. The Eel Roll was perfect with a nice light sauce. My wife had several pieces of sushi, including egg, which were all very fresh. This restaurant offers a lot of selections that you won't find at your typical sushi establishment. The service was brusque that day because they were so busy - but very efficient. This has become our favorite sushi restaurant.

While the staff tends to speak quickly, their personalities and attentiveness more than make up for it, creating an atmosphere that feels both polished and inviting. The atmosphere is largely beautiful, with a thoughtfully designed main space that immediately makes a strong impression. That said, some of the smaller details could use attention: a worn menu, a very small and plainly styled bathroom, peeling paint on the ceiling, and a stray balloon in the corner stand out in contrast to the otherwise elegant setting. The big picture is clearly prioritized here, and while the space still looks great overall, tightening up those finer details would elevate it even more. The drinks are straightforward but effective--flavor-wise they're perfectly fine, but they're generous on the pour, which absolutely earns them five stars. And the sushi is the real standout. The quality of the fish is exceptional--arguably the best in the city. Instead of leaning on Americanized gimmicks, the menu feels much closer to authentic sushi, letting the freshness and craftsmanship speak for themselves. All things considered, this is an excellent spot that balances quality, professionalism, and authenticity, and it absolutely earns a five-star rating.

For sushi, I tried the Sea angel (10/10), Lobster cha cha (8.5/10) it was a little lacking in overall taste for me, Red dragon (7/10) and Yellowtail with Jalepeno (7/10); both were just okay to me. The sushi rolls were good, they did not have lots of rice like many of the ayce sushi places, fish was fresh except for the one roll with the spicy shrimp salad on it... it had a little bit of a fishy taste to it. Not sure if it was supposed to be like that or not, but for me, I hate that fishy taste from any kind of fish. I tried about 7 different rolls, including Philly, Rainbow, Fantasy, Spicy Girl, Crazy Train, Butterfly, and Spicy Tuna. What I liked about the rolls was that they were not over stuffed with rice, on a few of the rolls you could actually taste the fish. For the rolls with crab, they used real crab meat and not the imitation crab. Their signature item is mango, so there are a few rolls that have mango in them.My favorite was the Fantasy Roll with cream cheese, shrimp tempura, avocado, and crab. Atmosphere was relaxed and laid back, not too noisy. Service was great, took about 10 mins from order to having food on the table. And the price cant't be beat for Ayce lunch sushi for $16. Definitely worth a try if you are craving some sushi but don't want to spend a lot of money. Philly, rainbow, fantasy, spicy girl Crazy train, butterfly, spicy tuna
