This is my favourite omakase in Toronto! I've been visiting over the years and the food and service have consistently been excellent! Kaji and the staff are friendly, professional and attentive. The cold sake are smooth and refreshing. The food changes based on availability and seasonality and is always so delicious. They pace out the serving of each dish so that by the time the full course has finished, I feel satisfied and not too full and not still hungry. There's typically two or three options omakase options on the menu and I highly recommend selecting the top tier. A great dining experience!

Dined in on Sunday night for an anniversary dinner with my husband. I had been wanting to try this resto for years as I heard lots of good feedbacks from my Japanese friends / coworkers. We were welcomed very warmly with all Japanese staff. The restaurant was not too big but cosy. We were seated at a counter table. We ordered Wagyu sukiyaki omakase & Sashimi Omakase (both were approx. $ 150). It started with beautiful appetizer dishes. I could see that they really paid attention to details. The flavor that was made out of multiple ingredients was phenomenal. Then I had Wagyu sukiyaki and my husband had an assorted sashimi. Wagyu was very tender enough to cut with chopsticks but it was not too greasy. After the dishes, we had Sushi. I didn't count how many sushi I got but it was more than 10 pieces. Many sashimi pieces were air-flown from Japan. A sushi chef handed each pieces and explained to us about the origin of fish, how to eat. Their sushi was one of the best sushi I have ever had. After sushi, we had a soba in soup, then dessert. The main chef was so entertaining and charming. We left the restaurant very stuffed. Highly recommended!

Don't be put off by the unassuming exterior on The Queensway. They've renovated but have to say, miss the old kitchen tables and chairs of yesteryear. New set up is quiet and allows diners to enjoy. Always excellent and no 30 min limit. Choice of 2 omikase meals, Waza w sashimi and sushi or takami w wagyu. All fish is v fresh, rice is well seasoned. As always the owner is at the sushi bar making his exquisite sushi. Photos missing dessert- rice pan a cotta which was excellent. This is a real gem in Etobicoke.

A gem hidden in plain sight. If you're looking to spend and enjoy yourself, along with doing a great date night, this is the perfect spot. We came early to our 8:15pm reservation and were seated quickly. They provided us the menu and took our order closer to the start of dinner time. Around 8:10pm, you can see them starting to prepare food slowly in a careful and crafted manner. After that, once the first dish was served around 8:25pm, it was a steady pace of food. We were quickly full by 10:10pm and enjoyed the entire experience as we watched each chef make their own craft and have their own flow. The only thing I think they can improve on is that only one chef serves the food, but I think it should be the chef that makes the food (there were three of them and only the head served, which we couldn't fully appreciate the one that made it and thank them directly)

I usually don't give 5 stars to any restaurant but the meal I had at Kaji was simply outstanding. I had heard about this restaurant for years and am happy to say I was finally able to sample their fine fare for dinner last night. Every dish from the Sushi to the Wagyu beef Sukiyaki was simply delicious and impeccably presented. The Squid Sushi was so tender it was like butter melting in my mouth. I would even put this restaurant on par with restaurants I have eaten at in Japan.

I have seen tons of good reviews about this sushi place and have always been waiting for a chance to try it out. Recently, I was running errands nearby and thought might as well order their takeout selection box (sushi, sashimi and toro rolls). However, the food was a bit disappointing to me. We waited about ten minutes after our scheduled pick-up time and the selection box came with two really pretty boxes. Everything was fresh but it was also missing that wow factor. They didn't offer any special/rare fish like many other fine sushi places do. The only items which stood out were the toro rolls and the fish roe. The biggest flaw was that they put way too much wasabi on the sushi and it completely covered the taste of the fish itself. It was hitting the back of my nose with every bite of every piece of sushi. This was definitely not expected from a fine sushi restaurant. The unagi don I tried was okay but not great. Being scared out by the wasabi, I wouldn't want to travel here to try their omakase dine-in in future. If I happen to be in that area, I might order some toro rolls at most.

During the lockdown period, suddenly i want to crave for some nice sushi and sashimi.  Sushi Kaji never disappointed me.  Ordered their sushi and sashimi set, and Unagi Don.  The sushi and sashimi set definitely worth the price.  All types of sashimi are fresh, the portion is good enough for one person.   The Unagi Don is really good, but the portion is really small compare to some other authentic Japanese restaurants.  Definitely recommend Sushi Kaji, especially with the omakase experience dine in.

Sushi Kaji is the closest I have felt to being in Tokyo since I went to Tokyo. The staff are meticilous. Everything from taking your coat, to showing you the seats to explaining the dishes is done with a the Japanese commitment to doing the little things well. When we couldn't decide which sake to order, the waiter brought over a flight and let us try three different sakes, untill we picked the one we liked best. The dinner is very close to an authentic omakase expereicne. You chose one of three set meals which are differentiated by the main dish (I went with lobster while my partner selected black cod), while the sushi is chef's choice. The stars of the show were the perfectly-molded nigiri pieces. The fish was fantastic, properly seasoned (where needed) and spot on in every respect. All of it was fresh and coming from as far away as Japan. The ocean perch and the tuna belly were particularly memorable. Toronto does not have a ton of good high end sushi restaraunts. Sushi Kaji is an execption well worth the drive to Etobicoke.

I tried their omakase sushi takeout box which is not the full experience, but really enjoyed the food which was high quality. To be honest when considering prices I still prefer Yasu over them but I think it's really personal preference depending on what fish/flavours you like. I think Sushi Kaji tries to incorporate more intricate toppings on some of their sushi but I usually prefer just the raw fish itself. It was sad to hear about the scammers that have tried to rip this restaurant off during COVID. Please support them!

First time coming to Sushi Kaji before the pandemic for Valentine's Day special and it was amazing. Good experience, really good food overall. One of the biggest highlights was the unago. That's a must if it's on the menu. I came for a second time shortly after the lockdown for take out and I've gotta say it's worth every penny. Brought me back to japan but in my own dining room. It's not quite on the same caliber as Yasu but it's definitely a close second in my option. Can't wait to go back to dining in restaurants once this is all over!!!!!

Sushi Kaji was my very first omakase experience many years back, and I left feeling the same way as the first time... Happy and full! I like how this style of omakase incorporates more cooked foods than others. The main difference between the price points is the main courses (fish, scallops or wagyu sukiyaki etc.) but the other courses are the same. I would personally recommend the scallops over the pricer wagyu option The courses were all amazing! Each course was perfectly cooked and seasoned to enhance its natural flavour. The fish chosen for the sashimi and sushi courses were so fresh, and buttery and paired perfect with the freshly ground wasabi.

OK I heard so many good things about Kaji's omakase sets... so we came here and had the shun ($180 per person set) it has some hot dishes (pasta, soup) waygu beef slices you dip in egg) and sushi... And we didn't feel satisfied after the meal or that it was anything amazing. It was really nothing special. Even tho we sat at the bar, we felt no interaction with the chefs, they just handed us our food. The waitress/waiter describes the food to us and we can not understand them... are they speaking English? Didn't find anything spectacular about this place, and money is not even the problem, we don't mind paying for good food. But it was really just "meh"

I've been wanted to try an omakase restaurant for a while. A friend wanted to come here for her birthday so this was the perfect opportunity. There is free street parking behind the restaurant so park there instead of the green p parking spots located outside the restaurant. I believe after 6pm parking is free for those spots as well. Reservations are recommended at this restaurant. They only take phone reservations Wednesdays to Sunday from 3:30pm-6pm. We opted for the 9pm seating to accommodate my friends work schedule. It wasn't too busy, but there was still a decent amount of customers in the restaurant. We requested the bar seating space so we can see Chef Kaji do his magic. The service was very attentive and they explained each dish specifically. They even overheard my friend having a kiwi and eggplant allergy and made an effort to let us know that some of their dishes had these ingredients. We opted for the $160 meal WAZA meal. The dishes included: - snow crab and broccoli salad - Cold Burdock and Pork Vichyssoise - Sautéed Ayu with eggplant salsa - Assorted Sashimi (8 pcs) - Sautéed Lobster with shiso corn sauce - Kaji Omakase Sushi (10pcs) - Dessert (Pear Sorbet) I enjoyed all the dishes, specifically the cold burdock and pork vichyssoise. This was a cream based soup that was a mix of french and japanese influences. The flavours just went together really well and you can taste the quality in the ingredients that was used to make this simple soup. The lobster tail was cooked perfectly as well, which brought out the freshness of the lobster, while not overcooking this delicate dish. The sashimi and sushi was delicious. the quality was something I hadn't had before and was comparable to sushi I had in Japan. The chef saw that I was left handed so he ensured he placed the sushi in the right order to meet my needs. That's great service! If you are looking for a more traditional omakase experience, Kaji probably wouldn't a place for you. If you are looking for more of a fusion type of restaurant, Kaji would be a good place to go. I find that Kaji blends a lot of western flavours in its dishes while still keeping it traditional with the sushi and sashimi. But I genuinely enjoyed my meal here and felt it was worth every penny.

We got a large table right at the window with warm, bright sunlight coming in. And the ceiling looked heavenly with fluffy cloud-like cotton ball textures which I loved! We shared and enjoyed several appetizers and I really loved the crispy and tender Chicken Karaage. I ordered the Bento Box A with (Choice of Chicken, Salmon, Bulgogi or Katsu) + Tempura (2pcs Shrimp + 5pcs Vegetable) and Green Salad, Miso Soup and Rice. The tempura was fantastic! The shrimp and veggies so so crispy, hot and delicious! I chose the chicken Katsu which was delicious too but it came lukewarm and I really can't enjoy food that tastes like it's been sitting in the kitchen for awhile. So I ended up taking it home to reheat it. But my main complaint was the salad that looked good at first was so drenched with salad dressing that the tanginess made it almost inedible! But I forced myself to eat it and not say anything to our server because I was with others. I was shocked to see a pool of extra dressing at bottom of the bowl. I've never seen this before at any other Japanese restaurant so I needed to share this in hopes that management see this complaint. Thankfully we had a great server who was friendly and helpful with questions. With so many great Japanese restaurants in Toronto I may not come back here if this is how they serve their salads and Katsu.

They have a festive light christmas tree attached to the wall, which I found to be a little too bright and it might be triggering to some people. The employees were friendly and they threw in a complimentary order of edamame. THE FOOD: Aburi Salmon Roll: The aburi salmon roll is called an aburi salmon roll but it does not have avocado in the middle like traditional aburi rolls. When I was ordering the roll, the employee told me it was more of a salmon torched roll where the salmon is placed on top of the rice (kind of like nigiri). The roll tasted okay but it wasn't as good as my go to place. Salmon Avocado Roll: The salmon avocado roll was good and the salmon tasted fresh. The Edamame: The edamame was good and tasted like you would expect it to. Would I Return? Possibly but I might try another sushi restaurant in the area before going back.

Big mistake. On Nov 25, 2025, I ordered the MC5 Maki Combo (24 pcs) -- California roll, dynamite roll, spicy salmon roll. What arrived was a disaster: tired-looking sushi, off flavors, and a wasabi that came out as a strange dark green slime. I forced down a few pieces; my wife couldn't eat hers at all. To make matters worse, I was burping an odd flavor for hours afterward. This wasn't just disappointing -- it was unacceptable. After years of giving this place chances, I'm done. Sushi should never feel like a gamble, and I won't be rolling the dice here again.
