The staff was very polite, no doubt. The atmosphere was very quiet when we came in. We had a 6 pm dinner and other diners were coming in around 8 pm. We asked to sit by the head chef, but were unable to. There were only 2 other diners when we arrived. The fish was standard. I did not feel satisfied with the meal, some pieces of fish were sinewy. It was $145 per person for omakase. Pickled ginger was sparse. We were notified there were 8 pm reservations, so we left at 7:53 pm. After tax and tip, it was almost $200 for the dinner (including one non-alcoholic drink).

Sushi Jin has always exceeded expectations and I hope they will stay in the neighborhood. We heard that the lease is up in February 2024, and they will no longer be there. We are praying they will continue to stay in the upper east side! Please go and support this excellent omakase restaurant !

Went for dinner on 4/30 for 7pm, we arrived on time and to our surprise there was no wait, usually even with a reservation you have to wait. As usual we sat at the bar and watch chef execute his omakase menu $145 per person, right before us. My wife and I make it a point to only have Sushi here as anything else would be a total disappointment. The food and the experience was totally amazing we order a bottle of Pinot Grio, to pair it with dinner.

I first visited chef Satoshi Tachikawa, formerly of Blue Ribbon Sushi and of 15 East, at his previous restaurant in Flushing called Ginpachi. I thought that restaurant was great but was sad to see it close, fast forward a few years and I heard he opened a place in the city, I knew I had to visit. I thought my meal here was delicious, I thought the pieces were well executed and well thought out, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. It was great to see Chef Satoshi behind the sushi bar again. The food: Otoro with Quall Egg, Tuna Rib Meat with Mountain Yam- This was a delicious starter, my fav was the rib meat from the tuna, the texture was amazing. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LS01P4sUpnOKwC75WQ55Zg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Maine Uni, Kanpachi, Canadian Botan Ebi, Firefly Squid- This was a simple yet delicious second plate, the Botan Ebi and Kanpachi were superb. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ixeoTotRyUshrpy1Yf0wew&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Madai Red Snapper with Shiso Plum Paste with Himalayan Sea Salt- I really enjoyed the texture of the Madai and it paired well the Shisho Plum. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=x70QrTq5gnzyVmaSr3Ak-w&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Shima Aji with Finger Lime and Wasabi- This was so unique, I never had finger limes with sushi before, it was kinda like eating fish eggs but with sour punch, it was good. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=MMlTgQZz-vRYP7pnf-buGw&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Akami- The lean tuna melted in my mouth, the quality of the tuna was fantastic. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=mm81F7LAzWHcZOUIkmFxaA&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Chutoro with Truffle Salt and Wasabi- This piece was so inventive and unique and I also liked the double cut of chutoro, that is not something I see often. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=PKFW6-0BanvUVkLj4uD-Eg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Baby Snapper Cherry Blossom Leaf and Egg Yolk- This was another piece I never seen before, it was so visually appealing and the baby snapper reminded me of how sardines are so silky and smooth. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=8KRP8aNormXCXLaYPLotOg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Kinmedai with Konbu Seaweed and Daikon Radish- I enjoyed the sweetness from this and I enjoyed the texture of the Kinmedai. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=RFLX7SFt7ZRKW4NmyX8fzQ&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Sayori or Needlefish with Ginger- The texture of this was nice, the flavor was good but mild. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=wmpT2LdaYBueGBysQ-x2Ow&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Kanpachi or Amberjack with Yuzu Kosho- I love Kanpachi and this piece was delicious, the texture and flavor were amazing. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jTGgKkz5P1ik_s4yJaXkjQ&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Japanese Barracuda with Kombu, Finger Lime and Ginger- This was beautiful and I liked how hey charred the outside of this for an extra layer of flavor. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ZEyAKBl3Q7s8PKv8byTUdw&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Otoro- This melted in my mouth but oddly didn't have much texture. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=iZCPrB7v8OzCp74PS1uCaA&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Hokkaido Uni- Omg, love it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=j7fMZxScoOTf2LViEzVUkA&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Grade A Hokkaido Uni- So rich and creamy, excellent. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=MRaii8ImQAb8bc_afd0Lqg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Anago- Salt Water Eel, so silky, smoky and smooth. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=PetvZGPPH_A-9FL6V986JQ&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Extras: Giant Clam- I love the crunch, kinda like eating cartilage, it had a nice hit of wasabi. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=EGtF66Uo4WYPtWbmFR7gnQ&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Horse Mackerel or Aji- One of my favorite pieces, love the flavor and texture. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jNL64AVkhoCzpbCLXJwa8g&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Abalone Hokkaido Uni Rice- The Abalone was so insanely tender, the flavor was so deep and had such a wonderful sea essence. Came here with a few friends after hearing good things from several friends and is definitely worth checking out. Made reservations via phone about a month in advance, but definitely would have been more convenient if it was on resy/tock in my opinion (easy to cancel and confirm). Enjoyed having all the appetizers, nigiri, and dessert at the end. Good variety of fish for sure, quality and freshness were there. Gave two types of uni which were both good. Great value - only $125 for a substantial meal. We sat at the short end of the table, so there was less interaction with the chef and we didn't get to watch them make nigiri in front of us, but we didn't really mind since we were on our own having our own conversations. This place seems to have regulars, who the chefs know personally - definitely makes the experience a lot better. One thing that disappointed me was the rice. For some of the pieces, the rice started to fall apart when I picked it up.

Sushi Jin is a cosy omakase gem in UES. There's limited seats with 12-14 seats at the bar and a small side table that probably fits 4 people, so call them in advance to make a reservation. I went with a group of friends and the overall experience was remarkable. I made a reservation 2 days in advance and was seated relatively promptly. I also asked if I can book the entire place for a larger group of people, and I was told that is possible but at a later seating of 8/8.30pm, which I think is not bad. Food was great: everything was fresh and there were so many pieces I lost count. We had 3 different nigiris with uni, which I think is a lot more generous than other omakase places. However, the unis were from Maine and not Hokkaido (IMHO the gold standard for uni) because it was a public holiday in Japan. Nevertheless, I loved every piece served that night and we also added seared wagyu A5 beef and fried baby crabs which were delicious. I would definitely return to Sushi Jin.

With everything that's going on, I wanted to make sure I support small businesses. Sushi Jin was only open a few months before Covid hit and Chef Satoshi was forced to shut his restaurant down. While closed, he didn't offer any take out in order to keep his staff safe. So once he opened up again, I knew I had to pay my friend a visit. I've been here twice since he's re-opened. Once in the summer for outdoor dining and just last week for indoor dining. I felt extremely safe during both visits and you can tell that the staff follows strict protocols. The menu is slightly different, and Chef only offers pre-fixed plated style omakase now. As usual, Chef Satoshi serves up excellent quality, fresh and seasonal fish. While other sushi spots are relying on social media gimmicks, he focuses on making sure all his fish is super fresh. You can tell he really pays attention to detail, down to the colorful maple leaves he garnishes his plates. His sushi is truly a work of art and I'm so glad to see his restaurant flourishing once again!

Tonight was our third time visiting sushi Jin, and I hope that tells you what you need to know. This is an incredible quality for the price for omakase in the city, and every time is excellent. In the past we got add ons like uni from Maine () and today topped everything off with sujiko (fresh salmon roe). I think our favorite tonight was the chutoro (medium fatty tuna) or the scallop. Today's excuse was a birthday celebration, but it doesn't take much of an excuse to come by sushi Jin.

Managed to snag a last minute booking at this up and coming sushi bar tucked away in sleepy Upper East Side. Longtime veteran Satoshi has been mastering his craft for 42 years since the age of 14 in Japan and has now reopened this location post pandemic. Eaters can expect a traditional preparation, focused more on technique and highlighting the freshness of the ingredient rather than resorting to esoteric or "innovative" garnishes. In fact, the attention to detail, grounded in strong tradition is Sushi Jin's strength coupled with a seamless yet unobtrusive service makes this a place to back to again and again. Satoshi-san, I hope to be back soon.

Fourth time at Sushi Jin and Satoshi has outdone himself again. The staff are incredibly attentive and Satoshi shared his wonderful sushi masterpieces with us. The fish served is some of the freshest I've ever had. I highly recommend adding Sushi Jin to a must try list of sushi restaurants. Thank you!!

This was the best Omakase experience I've ever had. It's more of a traditional type where the chefs let the fish do most of the work instead of dumping loads of toppings on top. Of course, there was some finger limes, wasabi, salt, soy sauce and other condiments but they were used so carefully that you could really taste the incredible clean flavor of the fish. If you're thinking about a special sushi experience, look no further - Sushi Jin is about to be a mainstay establishment in NYC for years to come. Go go go!

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The katsu was very, very moist on the inside, with a crispy batter that was so light it was almost flavorless. I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the tenderloin and pork loin. Overall the dish had a very light flavor and I added quite a bit of sauce and wasabi. Some of the less memorable dishes were the eggplant agebitashi and truffle rice. The eggplant agebitashi tasted like a cross between an eggplant parm and a bolognese. The truffle rice had a very strong truffle flavor that ended up overpowering everything else in the dish. I thought the slices of raw button mushrooms were a little strange. I really enjoyed the sabazushi. The pieces of mackerel were thick and carried a lot of that characteristic mackerel oily flavor, but the oiliness was cut by enough vinegar to balance everything out. The niku udon was also a surprise hit. The noodles were wide, flat, super slurpy, and the broth carried a deep umami flavor. Overall, I had a pretty solid experience here.
