Overall it was good. The sushi was fresh and the staff were friendly. They seemed a bit overwhelmed but they made it work. There isn't a lot of sashimi on the AYCE menu which is a bummer. The sashimi salad and seasoned sashimi were the only options and you can only order them one time. If you like rolls and nigiri it is worth a try, but if you prefer sashimi there are better options with less restrictions. All of the really good cuts are limited to one order per person. read more

I wanted this to be a better rating. I was excited about there being a solid AYCE place in El Cajon but I was really disappointed when the pricing was convoluted and confusing. There were several rules explained verbally that weren't present on any of the physical or digital menus. And then they turned away our order for our daughter from getting the premium options because she's a kid. Kids don't eat very much and it's limited to one item on that section of the menu anyway. It was the pettiness of not allowing one kid, one piece of ikura nigiri (for a $20+ charge mind you) that was just ridiculous. It's not necessarily a moral outrage here, just a really petty way to do business. We left and headed to Itacho in Clairemont. Our waitress was very kind and hospitable. I would recommend that management set up their wait staff better with clearer rules for their AYCE and help them out by not having petty rules for kids. As a frequent sushi family, a piece of nigiri really isn't worth the loss of long-term business. I sincerely hope this feedback helps. read more

My grandson wanted to eat here for his early graduation! We come here once in a while. We started with a couple of appetizers that were delicious. We had edamame and dumplings and miso soup. They were very tasty. Well all the food was great! What we enjoyed was the hot plates they use for the teriyaki chicken and the galbi short ribs! The sautéed onions were very tasty and sweet. We needed a new East County sushi spot to frequent, and Yi Sushi did not disappoint! Prices and quality are great for this economy. The flights are a great deal if you want to try 4 different rolls but for the price of 2 (or less)! Husband really loved his Sushi Flight C - the Guapo Roll was good and spicy. I enjoyed my Philadelphia roll (I like a good basic Philly, ok?!) - thin cut so that's why my photo has so many pieces. Only critique is that for both of us, a few of the pieces fell apart when we picked them up. Daughter had the Original Miso Ramen, which she liked but thought the broth was just a little too salty. It looked great with the soft boiled egg included and good amounts of pork belly. Service was very friendly! It was a quieter night, not too many customers, and the two servers came by often to make sure we were good. Love that they provide a small pitcher of water for every table - much more convenient for the customer imo! We arrived at 6:50pm, and they allowed us to order whatever Happy Hour items we wanted for the last ten mins of happy hour. (I believe 4-7pm everyday.) The nigiri was so good. We arrived at Yi sushi for dinner around 6pm, there was plenty of parking even though they had some of the parking blocked off for construction in the area. We were greeted right when we came in the door and asked to sit anywhere. When you sit down, they immediately bring over the menus as well as an ice cold pitcher of water to go along with the two glasses on the table. I ordered a raspberry iced tea and my husband ordered a sapporo beer. We ordered the sushi combo C and an appetizer of gyoza. All of the food arrived very quickly and it was very fresh. The gyoza was very hot and tasty. All of the rolls in the sushi combo were very delicious and not overpowered by sauce. The walls and paint were peeling and gross. I can't imagine how bad the back is if the front is this gross. We didn't order anything and got up and walked out because we were so GROSSED out. I went here after I saw a comment saying it looks better than the pictures, loooks are deceiving since most all the sushi I ordered was bad. The only roles that were good were the shrimp tempura ones since there's not raw sushi. The salmon and avocado roll was old or the salmon was not sushi grade ! The salmon was mushy and tasted so bad and old. The avocado tasted like it was bought ahead of time. Spanish- this would've been good if the salmon was good . The salmon on top tasted slimy and old. The spicy tuna on the inside was very old and not consumable.
