The Sushi Sando was absolutely fire. Most unique and thing I've had in a while. It literally taste like sushi that's a sandwich. The fries were amazing too, but I have been telling everyone about this sandwich since I had it. I will take a trip back to Detroit JUST for this Sando.

I was in the mood for a good poke bowl on my way home from work, and Sushi Coup popped up on a quick Yelp search. Sushi Coup is an unassuming little place in a strip mall, but those kinds of places always end up being the best! I was torn between several of their bowls, but ended up going with the Spicy Poke Bowl. My online order was just about ready when I arrived; it was probably a total of about 20 minutes from when I placed the order to when it was ready. I really love sushi, and while I definitely don't consider myself a sushi expert by any means, I honestly think this is one of the best poke bowls I've ever had. The ingredients were perfectly proportioned so you could get a little bit of everything in each bite. The fish is excellent quality and tastes super fresh. Will *definitely* be coming back here, especially now that I've discovered the existence of their Sushi Sando from reading other reviews. Didn't realize that was a thing when I was ordering before, since I was just looking for a poke bowl at the time, but I cannot wait to try that Sando!

Sushi Sando --- an innovative twist between sushi and a sandwich. This is a pretty small establishment in a plaza off of Dequindre and 12 mile road. I wasn't aware of the lunch hours so I arrived right when the owner closed the restaurant. Apparently I looked really upset when I got to the front door, since I was ecstatic to finally try the famous sushi sando... Fortunately, the owner was SUPER nice and offered to open it back up for us. Talk about tears of joy! It has a very simple yet modernistic design with an open kitchen for customers to see the process. It's cool to be able to see your order made fresh right in front of you while the owner/chef makes conversation. I ordered the tuna sushi sando and okonomiyaki fries to share, and my friend ordered the salmon sushi sando and geisha bowl. Everything came out fresh and piping hot. The okonomiyaki style fries were topped with okonomi sauce, kewpie mayo, and bonito flakes. The fries were made to perfection, with a nice crisp and not oily. The tuna sushi sando? Honestly to die for! It's fresh and Jack does not skimp on the tuna. The sushi rice in the patty was seasoned well. There is this satisfying crunch on the outside while the rice is soft on the inside. Overall, the components on the inside definitely complemented the contrasting texture of the outside. Same goes for the taste! The umami of the tuna with the savory creamy crab salad. The cucumbers add a refreshing taste to your palette while the masago adds a little pop of saltiness to each bite. I would say that it is definitely worth it. It's similar to poke yet also different at the same time? It's genius. And the fact that the owner Jack was so welcoming even though I came last minute --- I recommend everyone to come and try this delicious concoction. Great customer service and AMAZING food

I came here for a quick bite and it did not disappoint! This is hands down one of the best poke places in town and would recommend! Service was very fast and the food is fresh and delicious. Overall, this restaurant is in the works of adding decoration and potentially adding boba to the menu. I would definitely come back!

Absolutely amazing!!! The fish is super fresh and the poke bowl was so filling and delicious. The fries were amazing. I love the choice of French fries they use. The music is super chill and the restaurant was super clean! The service was amazing as well. Johnny took really good care of me. Please if you're in the area try this place out! You won't be disappointed! Johnny is amazing, the food is amazing, the customer service is amazing!!!!

Stumbled upon this place when looking for a quite bite to eat nearby. I was immediately intrigued by the Sushi Sando which comes with crazy amounts of goodness sandwiched between two panko crusted rice and nori "buns." I choose the salmon sando and it did not disappoint! The salmon was fresh, the toppings all perfect additions, and I wish I could replace all my sandwich buns with these rice ones! They are so crunchy and delicious. My mother and partner both got bowls which they said were fresh and filling! (I'll admit to using my chopsticks to sneak bites from both of their bowls, and I agree, lol). My toddler, who still isn't so sure about raw fish, ended up with fries, which I assumed would be mediocre as we got them without the toppings. I was very wrong! The are some of the best fries I have had in a while! My little one loves dipping them in the sweet poke sauce. Jack, who I presume to be the owner and chef? Was very friendly and we appreciated the service. We will absolutely be back!

They are open for dine-in and open until 8PM tonight. One staffer running the show, one man show, it's Jack. They have been open for about 5 weeks. Only making poke bowls for the most part here. No sushi for the most part until staffing improves. Sushi is available on the weekends more. Menu will expand with more staff. Jack is waiting on us is super friendly, attentive and helpful and super accommodating. He's making us a dragon bowl with the eel and shrimp on the side and a crab salad and cream cheese futomaki roll. Jack likes his costumers to leave here happy. There is cucumber water. The crab cheese futomaki roll was good with the avocado on top, big pieces too. Dragon roll was good. Packed full of grab, big shrimp pieces and eel too.

SUSHI COUP: JACK'S FOOD KITCHEN - JACK'S BACK!!!!!

I have waited what feels like an eternity, but in reality was about 1.5 years for the return of Sushi Coup! This used to be the best poke place near me in Rochester and when the awesome owner, Jack, decided not to renew the lease on his restaurant, I may or may not have shed a few (aka many) tears. There is literally no place that has better poke. In the 1.5 years that Sushi Coup has been closed, there have been a ton of poke that has popped up in metro Detroit. I have tried a handful, and have never returned to them, because none compare to Sushi Coup. Forget all of your chain poke restaurants and start getting your poke fix from Sushi Coup! When I tell you the sushi rice is next level...it's truly the perfect texture and flavor. Jack puts both love and attention into creating and sourcing all of his quality ingredients. He is a chef with higher than high expectations for himself and it shines through in the dishes he creates. The fish is always insanely fresh, the bowl ingredients are always perfectly rationed and complement each other perfectly, everything here is truly divine. As if all the incredible food wasn't already more than enough reason to dine here, the thing that sets Sushi Coup apart from all its weak competitors and just puts them above all else in the service industry is their customer service. Jack is so passionate about making good food, but also getting to know his customers. He's endlessly friendly and genuinely remembers so much about you, so that the next time you come in, you can just pick up your conversation where you left off. He is thoughtful, kind, and authentic and truly wants honest feedback from you. I can't help but gravitate towards this kind of welcoming atmosphere and his loyal customers are rewarded with sneak peeks, secret menu items, tastings, and more! In short, I am beyond ecstatic Sushi Coup is back! The new location is in Madison Heights, which is a bit of a haul for me, but worth every mile and gallon of gas! I am endlessly green with envy for all those who live close to this new location! I just got back from the soft opening, with a limited, but already incredible & nostalgic menu (I started tearing up with the memories of the endless poke bowls from Sushi Coup past with the first bite I took today), so stay tuned for when the grand opening comes and get your butt on over ASAP to try it! I promise you, you will not regret it!

The Sushi Sando is incredible. They also have several variations of fries with different toppings, all are 10/10! Owner was behind the counter making all the food...very good service.

This place deserves 100/5 stars. First, the owner, Jack is always consistently so nice whenever we dine in or carry out.. fantastic customer service. Secondly, the food is ALWAYS fresh! I am pretty sure I have tried all of the bowls and have been extremely satisfied each time. Food is prepared fast and portion sizes are huge! The menu is always changing too, as they like to try out new items! They switched out the fried chicken for the sushi sando- which looked amazing and I'll have to try that next time! I would highly recommend trying this place out- you won't regret it.

I love trying new places and this hidden gem was located just down the street from me. Everything is made fresh so don't get in a hurry. The owner seems to be a one man show but he's definitely a food artist. I had the French fries. Who would think to order French fries at a sushi joint? Well, let me fill you in. They were fabulous. They were perfectly crispy and had different sauces on them, sooo good. I also the salmon sando. Think kind of like a sushi burger. It even has rice fried into patties. It definitely was fresh and different. I definitely would visit again.

    West coast bowl
    Erin T.

One of the best poke bowls in the area and one of the best since I moved from CA - it definitely beats out the chain poke shops like Pokeworks around here. I haven't had the chance to try their other creations, but from how good my West Coast Bowl was, I'm definitely gonna try to stop by this place again later. I asked for recommendations and the chef asked back what my preferences were, then gave me a good brief rundown of what he thought I would like, so I got the West Coast Bowl. It was so good! The fish was really fresh and the toppings in the bowl complimented the fish and rice really well for what it was, and for the price it was so worth it! I was able to split the bowl between two meals just because of how much fish and toppings I was given, and boy I had enough for dinner and lunch for the next day! Love to see a small, family-owned restaurant dishing out the best poke bowls over larger chain restaurants. Can't wait to come back!

Spider bowl - soft shell crab.
    Alan C.

I finally got a chance to check out Sushi Coup. I had really been wanting to check it out since I saw they had a soft shell crab bowl on their menu. Sushi Coup is a small restaurant located in the mini mall near the intersection of 12 Mile and John R. I ordered the Spider bowl, which came with a large soft shell crab served in 2 pieces over a bed of rice, lettuce, avocado, cucumber, and imitation crab. It was garnished with a spicy mayo, nori, eel sauce, and masago (which is a smelt roe). The soft shell crab was fried to order. It was delicious with the crispy tempura shell and that goodness that only comes with soft shell crab. Definitely was the best I have had in the area. The staff was really friendly and I'll definitely be back. A+.

Someone in the huge crowd I waited with said it's never that crowded. I really feel like if they were organized a little better the process could have went smoother. It took other customers waiting to start calling out the names on the orders that were ready before the staff started to do so and, even then it was kind of random when they would do it. I ordered the salmon on the beach roll and the rainbow roll and was told the wait would be 30 minutes...def should have ordered by phone. The waiting area was PACKED. They said they were backed up due to a huge order they were trying to fulfill . I was wishing that they had a double door because it was freezing, especially whenever someone opened the door to go in or out. I ended up going to my car to wait. All in all I ended up waiting a little over an hour for my food, the last 20 minutes in that freezing lobby again. However...My rolls were delicious! My favorite was the rainbow roll. They were both HUGE, I've never had sushi rolls that big. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get the cute little bento box but there's always next time. I would for sure go back but definitely NEVER on a Friday/holiday. Note: Came back a second time )and third and fourth, etc. lol) and the experience was so much smoother lol. I was the only person in the lobby. I ordered the rainbow roll and dancing eel roll and was told it would be ready in 10-15 minutes, which it was. I also got a cute little bento box this time. This has since become my go-to spot for sushi and the rainbow and dancing eel rolls are my regular order. I have seen some reviews on TikTok that may make me branch out and try other things on the menu though.

The layout includes three bars: the main bar, the sushi bar, and the tiki bar. The crab rangoon cheese katsu sticks were as good as they sound. I was worried there wouldn't be much crab, but that wasn't the case. The lobster tail robata was easy to peel, and complemented well by its accompaniments. The pork belly robata was tender, while the tare added some sweetness. Of the two, I preferred the pork belly. I've had four of the six bao buns. The chicken had a char flavor, and the steak sauce added some welcome moisture. The filet was tender, with a bold but not overbearing garlic aioli. The pork belly was also tender, glazed with a sweet honey, and balanced by some savory pickles. The sausage had a nice snap, and the Fresno peppers gave it a bit of a kick. The filet and pork belly were my two favorites. The sushi is some of the best I've had locally. The shikotsu roll (wagyu and bone marrow) was incredibly rich and buttery. $36 may seem steep, but it's the most memorable sushi roll I've ever had. The toro (fatty tuna) to caviar was also very impressive, and had soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Here's how I rank the nigiri I've tried: 1. Tamago (omelette) 2. Madai (sea bream) 3. Aji (horse mackerel) 4. Shima Aji (striped jack) 5. Ikura (salmon roe) 6. Uni (sea urchin) Lastly, for dessert, I've had the key lime pie. It was remarkably fluffy and honestly one of the best slices I've had. Simply put, TigerLily blew me away. I can confidently say it's one of my favorite restaurants in the Metro Detroit area.
