I ordered sashimi, unagi don, and fried soft shell crab. I picked it up about an hour later and the sashimi wasn't ready so I waited another 7 or so minutes while they rushed around to prepare and package my order. The octopus sashimi was not tender. The white tuna was not particularly buttery as it should have been if it was escolar (not sure what it was really). The eel was deliciously soft and had the traditional sweet unagi sauce atop. The fried soft shell crab for $7.95 was a whole crab fried into about four pieces. It was not as tender as I've had elsewhere but good for Searcy. The unagi don was in good portion with about seven slices of eel atop a bed of somewhat dry rice. It came with some pickled ginger, a wee bit of seaweed salad, and some artificial wasabi. I was quite unimpressed with this place. It lacked ambiance, character and warmth. The service was robotic, and the food barely met standards.... I've gotta vent here..... as a former Sushi chef in Japan, this bastardization of Sushi has gone too far, and this place is just another contributor.... I see that people's favorites here are the Volcano Roll and other localized concoctions... Here's a hint: If you're seeing 'deep fried', 'sirachi', 'cream cheese' or a multitude of other American ingredients in your sushi roll, it's not Sushi. Honestly, Searcy has very little restaurants so Sushi Cafe is probably one of the better ones however, I make sushi at home that is tastier than some of the sushi I had here. I thought their rolls were just A-OK and standard. The spicy tuna was good but the rolls came with too little ginger. It was hard to get my waitresses attention. She was busy talking to the sushi chef half the time and she barely understood me when I ordered. Visited tonight for dinner. I let the chef make whatever he wanted. I was very impressed. Had three special items not on the menu and my standby white tuna. The wife had salmon, tuna and white tuna sashimi. All were fresh and a 9.99. We ate numerous dishes that were specially made plus her sashimi, squid salad and the bill was less than $60. Similar experiences in Dallas, LA or NY would have been well over $150+ even without alcohol which is lacking in this city. The servers are not the best, but the food is. We always sit at the sushi bar and deal with the sushi chef. Makes it much easier. Most of the people we see here think sushi is cooked/fried fish or rolls with nori wrapped cucumbers and avocados. I have never had a bad meal here either in the restaurant or the numerous to-go lunch orders our office gets weekly. I would recommend this place without reservation. read more

I could not believe this place is sitting in the middle of Searcy, AR. I suspect Searcy is becoming a bit of a foodie hidey hole based on this experience and several other spots I've visited in the area. I came into town from uptown Houston and was brought here. It was amazingly fresh and the flavors were on point. We had the Volcano Roll, Bom Roll, Mango Tango Roll and salmon sashimi. I would have expected to pay much more for all of this in the city. I love this place. We've been going here since they opened and it's been great every single time. The lady who cooks is very efficient and the food comes out consistently good. The sushi isn't as consistent but is still good. If I had a complaint about this restaurant (which I don't) I would say it's hard to place to go phone orders because of the language barrier but that's not really a problem with the restaurant or food. This place has great food and great prices. Their lunch specials are even more affordable. You have to try the Eel Avocado roll, the Bom roll, and the Gyoza. The Hibachi is wonderfullly prepared and a large meal. I really haven't tried anything I didn't like. The service is good and fast enough for food that is made to order. We've been to this little restaurant many times over the last 5-6 years. To begin, I must preface this by reminding folks that the restaurant choices in general are pretty skimpy in Searcy and the sushi availability is even less. Given this, I have to say that Sushi Cafe offers some pretty tasty Japanese food. They are fairly consistent, although we have had several meals that have kept us away for a bit (sushi fish not quite as fresh as it should be), making us somewhat regular customers but not dedicated regulars. We do know that if we are in the mood for something besides sushi, we are always happy choosing to eat here. Tonight hubby had the tempura udon and I had the unagi don. Both were excellent. The tempura udon is served with the tempura in a separate dish from the noodle soup (unlike the typical Japanese serving where the tempura is already in the soup, allowing it to soften). The serving size is very generous except for the amount of udon noodles, oddly. Unagi don is served with thin slices of eel generously placed over a round tray of white rice. Serving size is just right, certainly not skimpy. The service is better now than in previous years. More attentive, friendly as they have always been, much better at keeping beverages filled. If you don't mind just getting up to pay your check when you're finished, you won't be frustrated by that "end of the meal" delay with the check. read more

I love this place! The sushi is really reasonably priced and everything I've tried so far has been delicious. Gyoza is really good. The hibachi is fairly good. The only con is the turn around time. It doesn't take a ridiculous amount of time, but it's borderline annoying. Courses don't come out close enough together either (like you'll sit there having finished your salad for ten minutes before your entree comes out). The food is still excellent and the price is right. I live near Little Rock and I haven't found a sushi place that I like as much as this little place in Searcy. Not the best sushi place in town but the staff is courteous, and they have a small sushi bar where you can watch the chef make the rolls and cuts right in front of you, its a small restaurant but a nice atmosphere, some of the booths and chairs need replacing but it has always been exceptionally clean. The prices are about average for sushi, and when we pig out me and the wife spend between 35-45 on a dinner, the waits are a little longer than some but its worth it, Overall its a nice quiet little restaurant that could be romantic or relaxing, you can ask to be seated wherever if its not buisy and the staff is friendly, their spicy yellowtail roll actually has some spice to it, and is the best in town for that particular roll. The first thing I noticed were boxes and a plastic bucket stored near the front entrance. I expect higher standards for sushi restaurants cleanliness and presentation. The salad was slightly limp iceberg lettuce. The hot tea and miso soup were good. I had the feeling the California roll was pre-made earlier in the afternoon. I'd say half the sushi was really good and the other half average. The service was prompt but certainly didn't give me a warm welcome feeling. read more

Truly a renovated Backyard Burger building. Searcy isn't exactly the ideal location for fresh seafood, but apparently cream cheese is a different story. Ate here a handful of times while in college. Gives you the sushi fix you need in between summer and winter breaks. read more
