Sushi Cafe is definitely a gem! We have dined here numerous times and have always had amazing food and fantastic service! The restaurant is small with seating for about 10 at the sushi bar and 8 at freestanding tables, so be sure to call ahead and make a reservation as they are always busy. For appetizers, the Gyoza is very good. The Imperial Tuna is no longer listed on the menu but they will still make it for you if you ask. We change the sauce to wasabi mayo at the suggestion of Mike, one of the chefs. Our favorite on-menu specialty rolls are: Yeti Dynamite Caterpillar Big Bird Bonsai Smokey Bandit 8th and Ocean - but only if you like spicy! However, if you are feeling adventurous, ask Mike to make you one of his special rolls. His incorporation of ingredients takes you on a flavor journey as you eat each piece. He has a few different rolls he makes and is always creating new experiences. Our favorite sashimi is definitely the scallop, however the salmon and toro are good too. We tried the uni last night with mixed reviews at our table; it is a polarizing flavor that you either loved or strongly disliked. There are only a couple of tables- which fill up fast- and a sushi bar but it is so worth the wait! I enjoyed the edamame, shumai, shrimp tempura roll, black widow roll and spicy tuna roll. It was all so fresh and flavorful-- possibly the best sushi I've ever had! Our waitress was working super hard acting as waitress, hostess and taking take our orders but she did a great job! What restaurant can truly live up to the hype on Yelp? Sushi Cafe. I've had good sushi before, but this place is a level on its own. And beyond the food, this tiny unassuming little restaurant in a strip mall feels like hidden treasure. Every one that was working there felt like family - if someone was having a bad day you'd never know because they all radiated love: for their work, each other, and the diner. It's not just a job for them, it felt like a calling. I am so grateful they were able to squeeze us in as a walk in, with around an hour wait because we came at peak dinner time. It was so worth it. Pro tip: call ahead and make a reservation and work your schedule their availability. I would eat here at least once a month if I lived in OCMD. I believe the dumplings were flash fried, which provided a all-around crisp that isn't achieved with a typical pan fry. The creamy ponzu was a perfect pair, tasted sort of mayo based. TORPEDO: A fan favorite. If you love tuna and spice, you'll love this roll! There definitely was a nice kick, but not too spicy. If you can handle sriracha, you can handle the spice in this roll. OCEAN CITY: 2 out of the 3 of us voted this roll as their favorite. You can distinctly taste both the crab and shrimp, which combine very well. The old bay seasoning isn't very strong at all. Delicious roll! CHESAPEAKE BAY: Another fan favorite. If you love crab, you will love this roll. The roll is topped with a ton of crab. The wasabi mayo definitely isn't spicy. "POKE"MON: You can definitely taste the tempura texture, which I loved. It was a bit sweeter of a roll with the ponzu poke that topped the roll. Not very spicy, couldn't taste the jalapeño. Still amazing!!! Since Covid our trips to the eastern shore have been quick weekends vs a full week so we hadn't made it back in here until tonight. The sushi was wonderful and the people who own it/work there are lovely and make you feel like you're part of the family. I take back the expensive comment as their prices seem to have stayed steady while so many restaurants have become exorbitant since 2020. We had 7 rolls, 5 of them specialty and 2 orders of nigiri. Our total was about $125 with 2 22oz beers and 2 sodas. Pretty reasonable, especially considering the quality and how marked up most things are in Ocean City. I'm a sushi lover and have tired all the sushi restaurants in town and it doesn't matter where I'm staying south in downtown or even in Bethany Beach I go to sushi cafe at least once (if not twice during a week's vacation). The fish and seafood is so fresh, rolls are well balanced between protein/rice and sauce and the size of the rolls are perfect sized bite!
