    Burnt nasty tempura

Not a good place The thick woman with red hair not very friendly or helpful . The food is below average the tempura is disgusting very odd heavy tempura batter They also burned everything the tempura sauce was also very watery and no flavor The tempura bowl was all bland old chicken cooked hours or days ago all rice no meat . Don't let me get started with the sushi One smell and straight to the trash . This whole experience was trash I should have known walking into this place it looked very odd . Lesson learned no more cheap not authentic Japanese restaurants .

Sushi Boy doesn't really have anything special, but it's an incredible value for decent taste. I typically will get their Dragon Roll or Spicy Shrimp Roll. My favorite dish is the chicken teriyaki bowl because you can sauce it up however you'd like. Overall staff is quick to get your food out! A clean place to dine in or takeout!

We come here whenever we're craving something quick and satisfying. A gentle heads-up: if you're hunting for top-tier, Michelin-level sushi, this probably isn't the place, and that's okay. Don't come expecting the moon just to complain it's not orbiting close enough. This is a small, no-frills spot that serves affordable sushi that actually taste decent. Solid flavors, a nice variety of rolls and handrolls and perfect for when the sushi craving hits but the budget says "be reasonable." Service is usually fast and easy, but today (12/17/25 at 4:40pm) was a standout. The guy who took our order mentioned he used to work in the kitchen, and he was an absolute gem, super sweet and genuinely went above and beyond. The place also looked (and smelled) spotlessly clean, for anyone who claims otherwise or maybe we simply got here on a good day? To top it off, an unpleasant couple came in after us, and the cashier/server (one guy doing everything) handled the situation with total grace and professionalism. We were so impressed that we ended up tipping him around 80% , yes, eighty. So no, this isn't top-tier sushi. But if you want affordable sushi that taste good, comes out quickly, and is served with kindness, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Sometimes that's exactly what you need

My boys inhale sushi. To make my wallet survive, we take them regularly to Sushi Boy (and also the cousin restaurant of Kozo Sushi in south Torrance with a nicer building). You'll chuckle that my boys actually grade hand rolls, specialty rolls and nigiri from Sushi Boy higher than some of those swanky cloth-napkin, must-show-up-in-fancy-shoes kind of restaurants! The food is delicious. The staff is down to earth, family oriented and relaxing unpretentious. Bathrooms are not great. But we overlook that as the pro-con analysis is still highly favorable. The website and app do not work. There is no way to login. We've just accepted this as a fact of life. But the phone number for purchase rewards works! Based on how much money we spend here, we are getting free items (free tempura, soup, sushi combos) every visit! My wallet sings praises too. Don't sleep on Sushi Boy.

My wife & I came here for lunch. It brought memories when we were dating when this establishment was located on the corner Kent Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd. The atmosphere was good. The service was pretty prompt. The food tasted good.

My review is based off of nostalgia and the fact of actually visiting a Sushi Boy brick and mortar. Back in 1999 I went to the Sushi Boy location inside Marukai's food court. I was then introduced to a roll that I highly judged because 1. it wasn't fish based 2. there was lettuce in it 3. I knew this thing would fall apart when picked up. What I didn't know is the magic behind a simple combination adding their teriyaki sauce. Its been some years that Sushi Boy left the Marukai food court and I felt I was at a loss on this roll. Since I don't live in the South Bay area it is a huge trek to come down just for sushi. Marukai is an exception since my mother's church is nearby and she loves to do her Japanese food shopping their. The roll that I'm raving about is their Chicken Maki. Simple: rice, chicken, lettuce, sesame seeds. When you add their teriyaki sauce, it is all good! This past weekend I had plans to visit the area and made a point to come to Sushi boy before heading to my destination. I had a couple of friends with me. It was their first time. I told them it is fast food sushi but its pretty good and the price is just right. 90% of the items in the photos of this review were my friend's order and they killed everything. Even the salad. The person at the register was really helpful as well. There is a menu up above and behind the register but when I asked for the chicken maki he showed me a more extensive menu that was laid out on the countertop. He also brought the order out to our table and while not knowing a key is needed to use the restroom, he handed it to me before even asking. There are a few staple food places/items for me in the South Bay and Sushi Boy has one of them. Glad to have made it. Parking: medium sized lot VERDICT: Rinse and repeat

Ordered Sushi Boy on Thanksgiving Day, 11/23/23. Calling in an order was easy. The person who took my order was friendly and nice. So grateful that they're open during the holidays. Really make it easy on those who aren't able to cook. We ordered the California platter which comes with California rolls, tuna rolls and salmon and avocado rolls. The platter was a big hit at our family Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone loved it! The rolls were fresh and really delicious. The ambiance is cool and relaxing. They have tables for those who want to dine in. We ordered from the Harbor city location and we prefer this Torrance location better. Clean and friendly staff. Easy parking as well. Definitely recommend and we will definitely be back!

Great little spot for a quick lunch. Sushi was fresh and delicious! We got their chicken teriyaki combo plate and two sushi combo plates along with their tempura platter(the sweet potato was my favorite). The cashier was very kind and sweet to my baby which is always a plus in any mamas book. I didn't get any pics of the food but I did love their decor on the inside!

The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.

I am disappointed in myself for waiting this long to try Ueno Sushi. I've been driving by this location on Carson st for 10 years. It used to be something else (Thai maybe?) before it was a sushi restaurant. I think it was something else before that. I never went here because I thought the food would be mediocre given the history of changes but I was so wrong. SO WRONG! I came here on a Friday night for a party of 1 and while the restaurant was full and many customers were coming in for their reservations, I did not have to wait. The Sashimi Combo 10pc was surprisingly generous. Every single piece of sashimi was huge. I honestly thought they forgot to cut each piece in half lol. It also comes with a bowl of rice, salad, and miso soup. I finished the night with blue fin toro sushi. For those who might find themselves confused like me, this is labeled Sushi on the menu, but it is better labeled as nigiri -- the sashimi on a small ball of rice. It comes with two pieces and the tuna was HUGE. I almost couldn't see the rice! I was blown away by what I was getting but it makes sense given the price I was paying. I was so happy. Overall, great food, wonderful portion sizes. Downside is the pricing but it matches what you're getting. The biggest downside is the parking. It is a small parking lot so you may have to get street parking. Other than that, I'm coming back.

The drinks and food as well as the setting of the restaurant gives ultra chill vibes - one of the better izakayas I've been to re drinks and food variety and quality. They have some premium wines here too, including Opus One and Kenzo. What would have made this a top notch experience would be once of those semi-private booths with the lower seating that some places have, but this felt like some places we've been to in Japan as well. The only thing I didn't love was that I spent around $400 here (LOL), but we all had a great time so that was fine. Food-wise, we tried the following - Gobo Chips - a friend recommended these to us. He said eating these when drinking will prevent hangovers, headaches, any negative effects, etc. I thought it was cap, but all that beer and sake, I felt great the rest of the evening and morning despite just a few hours of sleep. Large serving of these chips, nicely seasoned, thin sliced, great texture. Even my daughter enjoyed these. Uni & US Wagyu Beef Sashimi - how decadent! Very flavorful. A bit too much sauce for me, but otherwise good. Salmon Truffle Carpaccio - this was one of my fave small plates. Fresh sashimi with ikura. YUM!! Chicken & Green Onion Skewers - Pretty good chicken. My daughter even ate the onions without realizing. Amazing. Chicken Karaage - the daughter's favorite! Goes very well with the beer too. Assorted Tempura - nice assortment of shrimp and veggies, with the tempura dipping sauce. Ribeye Ponzu Steak - beautifully cooked and flavorful. We started with the above, and the food came at various times, but the waits weren't long so we appreciated that. We were still hungry, so we ordered some more stuff - Premium Sashimi - min of 2 orders so we did that. It was good, but I expected a lot more for premium sashimi. It looked more of a single portion, but beautifully presented. Chazuke - we got some for us all - both salmon and mentaiko. Best dish to end a meal at an izakaya. Warm dashi with the riceball in there, seaweed, topped with either the salmon or mentaiko. Subtle flavors, but really delicious. We then looked at a dessert menu and decided to go elsewhere for some sweets. Would def come back to try their pressed sushi, and if we weren't all picky eaters, we'd try their set meal as well.

I was just starting to eat my meal when the sat a large group breaking them in to tables on both…read moresides of me. So people needed to squeeze by and then one guy asked if he could sit for a moment at my table. I said okay. But then I think he planned to stay at my table until finally my waiter moved him! There was a seat at one their tables the whole time. Then their waitress wedge herself with her back toward me in between the tables and I had to stop eating. Very disruptive and rude. Taking a while for the six people to order so I nudged her and I asked her to move and she seemed upset that I did that but didn't say anything no apology so it was very uncomfortable and I was rushing through my food so I burnt my tongue on the hot soup again even though I knew it was hot because I just wanted to get out of there. And then when I was done, I had to wait a while for the check and then they couldn't process the Apple Pay at the table so then I had to go to the front and wait for somebody to attend to me there overall this experience was not fun and stressful and I had got there right when they opened. I sure wish I had selected a different seat!! I wouldn't get the Nabeyaki soup again. It was really big and had a lot of end pieces of tough napa cabbage. There were two pieced of shitake mushroom and the standard thin fish cake slice. There was and egg in the soup and a three small chicken pieces. On the side were three small pieces of green bean and two tempura shrimp.
