Quick, convenient and affordable sushi! This is a simple takeout spot where service is very fast but also consistently good! Their rolls are known for being huge. We love their dynamite roll and unagi roll!

It's been a long time since coming back to the original sushi bong location. Located by condo towers, parking is always busy and tight. You can park further away in small streets and walk here if so inclined. We ordered via Ubereats this time and it came in decent time. Food: Sushi bong special - I feel like the fish in the sushi has gotten smaller and a bit thinner than years past. Still fresh fish - salmon is great as is the tuna. The California roll has salmon still which is nice. 4/5. Unagi roll - the unagi roll has a nice bbq eel flavor to it. The rice in the roll is good though some pieces were falling apart. I feel like there's a lot more filler now and less of the star unagi. Not bad still - 4/5. Spider roll - deep fried soft shell crab in a roll with all other kinds of items like avocado, tempura sheimp, egg, cucumber. I feel like these rolls used to be massive where you could never eat it in 1 bite but now it seems you can - still a slight challenge but a lot easier than before. Definitely feel this roll has gotten smaller and yet also gotten more fillers inside than the soft shell crabs. 4/5. Price: Prices have gone up with inflation. But it's still pretty affordable sushi for what you're getting though I do think portions of salmon and other proteins have declined a decent amount.

This is a great spot for affordable sushi to satisfy a craving! Sushi Bong is located around the roundabout at the Tridel building complex just north of the Metro. There's street parking along Yonge but on weekends can be challening to find a spot. We ordered the Bong Sashimi platter, Spicy Salmon roll, and Dynamite roll which came to $35. The Bong Sashimi platter consisted of roughly 18 pieces of salmon, butterfish, and whitefish I believe. It isn't the freshest cuts so if you are prone to tasting the fishiness of sashimi, I'd stay away. The Spicy Salmon roll were the smaller sized rolls but were very satisfactory. Not too spicy and is a nice add on to your order. The Dynamite roll was HUGE and had tempura shrimp, egg, avocado and other items all crusted with tempura bits. They do phone orders ahead of time but they didn't pick up when I tried to call. They only accept cash and debit. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for affordable sushi but stick to the rolls. Quality isn't the greatest but that's to be expected at this pricepoint. Will for sure be back (especially over Torch down the street)!

I remember back in the day I used to come here with friends all the time for the sushi bong special. They always give generous amount of fresh sushi. You can't find a better piece for the price quality ratio. Over the years, it's not the same as before, but still decent, a special place for a lot of locals.

Wanted to try some sushi in the North York area, when looking online this place had some good reviews and the prices were pretty good. We placed a pick up order as it can take a while if you drop in to order, and we got our food on time. I can see why this place is so popular!! The sushi was really good, with good sized portions. Will definitely be ordering from here regularly in the future!!

So happy to see Sushi Bong still around after all these years! Convenient, fast, and budget friendly. Just pulled up outside their storefront and picked up when ready. But know what you're paying for and what you're getting so you don't get surprised by me. I ordered takeout of assorted nigiri for $80. The food as prepared on time, in nice boxes, and affordable. But "assorted" is misleading because 50% of the pieces we got were salmon! I know salmon is a cheaper fish, but this is far from what I expect from an assortment. No tuna, no unagi, no saba, no amberjack. Look at the pics, I was disappointed but not surprised in retrospect. If you like salmon that's convenient and friendly, this place might be for you. If you want a variety of sushi in an $80 assortment, look elsewhere.

I ordered from Sushi Bong as I currently live next door and my sister recommended it. There is usually a line up and it's known as an 'economical' sushi option in the hood. I ordered over the phone and had the sushi bong special, udon, shrimp tempura and spider roll. The service was fast, ready in 10 mins and it was more than enough food for four ppl. They are generous with their portions, but it was a lot of rice. The fish was fresh but I think I still prefer Torch down the street for my go to sushi meal.

I've always known about this area of North York as being the fat Korean sushi roll area. Around the corner with VIP sushi, sushi Bong and one more which slips my mind however I never tried this place until my friend introduced it to me. The rolls and sushi are really well priced. I'd say they're on the lower end of the pricing spectrum. Compared to local competition Sushi Bongs sushis aren't as big, but to be honest I prefer it this way. Smaller sushi with greater quality and even better service. Before COVID and even now, there is always a line up. Mostly because its a small shop with one customer space, but also because its really popular. With everyone waiting outside, they go out to find you just in case you forgot about the time. Today I also witnessed someone with a huge order and the old worker of the place offered to help bring the extra bags to customer's car. I've been here 4-5 times since my friend took me here and I can say that their quality is upheld time after time. I highly recommend this place if you're just looking for a snack or a nice sushi party with family/friends.

Location/Service This place is along Yonge St, south of Finch by one of the beige colour condo complex. There are very limited parking spots available on the complex, but street parking is available along Yonge. Inside is pretty small, which has around 3-4 tables for seating. Mostly it's more of a takeout place. Interior is pretty basic, with a lot of Japanese themed wooden furniture. Staff are nice, friendly and fast with orders. Food Came here for lunch and got the sushi/sashimi combo b (around ~$14 after tax). It's a mix of salmon based sushi with a few shrimp, octopus and white fish. The quality is pretty good and quantity was sufficient. The salmon was fatty and fulfilling. This place overall was pretty good if you're in the area or want to grab a quick lunch. Definitely will come back and try their other menu items

Still the best value sushi. Fast and efficient service and decent quality food and great portions. Hope this place never changes.

Sushi bong special and white tuna roll

I'm updating my review after ordering three times in total now due to the inconsistency between orders. The first time we had the sushi bong special with the white tuna roll. The fish to rice ratio was excellent and the rolls were stuffed. The most recent time we ordered though, we got the yam tempura, white tuna, and salmon rolls and both the white tuna and salmon rolls were significantly smaller than the first time, which you can see in the photos. The yam tempura was also a bit undercooked and firm. Are the rolls still slightly bigger than average and tasty? Definitely! But I'm disappointed in how different the change is and really value consistency.

I had Sushi Bong quite a few times. It's a grab and go type of meal. Their rolls are unique and bigger than average rolls compared to other places. We ordered two special rolls: Hard Rock & roll and spider roll. Both rolls were delicious. The rice had a perfect chew and everything tasted fresh. The only thing that was disappointing was the spicy mayo ($1 upcharge). The taste was off - didn't taste like the usual Japanese spicy mayo. :( It's a solid 4 star for the freshness and uniqueness! I would opt out the spicy mayo- better to buy it in the grocery store.

Absolutely terrible quality in 2021 They made SO much money during the pandemic And now they're turning their back on their loyal customers and the neighbors. Terrible new quality. Do not support.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

Was worried it wouldn't be filling, but it's just the right amount of food. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want a traditional Japanese meal, this would be my spot. The sushi chef was very friendly and approachable, but he wouldn't make you feel like you need to yap with him like other omakase I've been to in Toronto where they would talk to the customers a lot. The wait staff was attentive and polite. Overall really good quality sushi, service and value. Would come again! I also appreciate that they don't require a deposit for reservations and don't require to pick the set you want beforehand. Very clean and warm design. Felt like I was in Japan!

It was extraordinarily quiet when we came upon this place on a Saturday night. Nevertheless, the food was absolutely delicious and arrived piping hot and well portioned. As expected from this popular chain, the katsu was superbly crispy on the outside while still maintaining the tenderness of the meat inside. The variety they have on the menu - including various sauces, cheese options, and udon - will keep you coming back for more. The most remarkable aspect of this particular location, though, was the quality of the service. Our waitress was so attentive and sweet, patiently answering all our questions and never leaving our glasses even close to empty. We were offered free refills of the miso soup as well which was a nice touch! Highly recommended to anyone shopping at Yorkdale nearby - skip the overcrowded food courts and mall restaurants and head on over here!

They have fun, interestingly crafted meals. Two of which we had ordered are the Carbonara Udon $17.50 and the Brick Cheese Katsu $22.90. The meals are not only cool and exciting, but the taste of the food can also properly back up the gimmick. The Carbonara Udon has creamy carbonara sauce and comes with 2 tempura pieces. For the Brick Cheese Katsu, I ordered the Gold & Silver Katsu to be able to sample both the Cheddar cheese wrapped inside the pork loin (Gold Katsu), as well as the Mozzarella cheese which is the Silver Katsu. It is a great combination of hot, fried food with a cheesy, creamy filling. Service was honestly a mixed bag. On many occasions, we found ourselves having trouble getting the waiters' attention because the staff are situated at the far back of the narrow restaurant. It was a good thing thay the staff are very courteous. They attended to and took care of an isolated request we had during the time we were there. The menu may be a bit more pricey compared to other similar establishments. Almost all of the meals start off at the $20 range.

We ordered this time the Yorokobi set for 2 and upgraded the sushi to brown rice for $5 extra and upgraded the green dragon roll that came with the meal to volcano salmon roll (which is one of their popular special rolls) and paid the difference. We also added a hamachi carpaccio just for more more protein for my SO because he thinks it might not be enough, but we were left super full. I love that the sushi wasn't loaded with rice and it was thinly included, we did mention that we usually don't like that much and the server said they can even adjust the rice content in the sushi.... We didn't confirm to adjust it but perhaps they went with it because rice is perfectly thin in the maki and less than usual for a nigiri, which is great because otherwise I don't know if we would have finished the meal. $5 to upgrade to brown rice for the sushi set that didn't have that much rice is still IMO a bit steep. Other that, the sushi is fresh, the special rolls are eye catching and tasty and the hamachi carpaccio was good too, LOVE the presentation. I think the best thing here is still their special rolls though! Server is so personable and made sure we were well taken care of. Only feedback I have here is the miso soup that with the Yorokobi set is way too salty I couldn't finish mine after a sip. Ambiance was clean with little Japanese decor throughout. They have a huge parking lot at the back and you can enter and exit from the back instead of trying the front as there is very little parking in the front lot.

That's right, I had to fuse some famous song lyrics into this review to make it as original and stellar as the food at Hay Sushi was! A simple Google search will tell you that traditional Japanese food, or washoku, is renowned for its nutritional balance; it emphasizes seasonal ingredients, small portions, and the ichiju-sansai (one soup, three sides) structure, which includes rice, miso soup, fish or soy, and vegetables, often eaten until 80% full. - Hay Sushi does just that! Everything they serve is understated yet undeniably hits the spot. I had a 3-course Winterlicious meal that was a delight with every bite and every course. Sometimes with set menus you might worry that the quality, quantity, or variety is less than satisfactory but this was far from it. Granted, they had run out of 2 items from their appetizers by the second day of Winterlicious but every last remaining item on the menu was different from the rest and offered a new dimension for your taste buds. The nori tacos are a testament to the fact that incredible things can come in small packages. They come discreetly served in their own little armchair-style pedestals, and guess what?, they do deserve to be put on pedestals as the blend of flavours and textures achieved with each one is truly remarkable. I had the spicy salmon nori taco and the veggies nori taco, both were unbelievable. So here I am wondering if the nori tacos were a one-hit wonder and the second course comes with it's full array of perfectly arranged 3 sides, main, rice, miso soup. I had the Sapporo Style Soup Curry Teishoku. This was not spicy but had a uniquely charred taste supplemented with vegetables such as squash, mushroom, pepper, onion, and lotus root. The chicken was succulent and even the rice was spot on. If you thought sides would be unremarkable, you would be wrong. The daikon, green vegetables and pickled cucumber, carrots, and raddish all pulled more weight than I ever thought was possible. The freshness and impact of each food item even came down to the ginger that was probably the most memorable ginger I've ever had and I never thought ginger alone could ever be that impressive. At this point of the meal I'm far more than 80% full, but hay, there's still dessert! And yes, dessert did not disappoint. I ordered a seemingly simple sorbet but lo and behold the sorbet was truly made with Asian pear and tasted like an explosion of the said flavour; not too icy, not too sweet, just right. If Japanese food truly prides itself on providing balance in nutrition, ingredients, and flavour, Hay Sushi should be very proud indeed

On Sunday, I got together with two friends for lunch at Hana Don. Markham has a location that I have yet to visit. My friends come to this one at CF Fairview Mall often and recommended that we come here. I booked a reservation for three at 12:30 pm online. It was easy. I drove over to this mall, which has changed a lot. There are more eateries that face Sheppard Avenue East and are connected to the mall, but you don't have direct access to it. The Moxie's is still there. I didn't recognize the others. Parking was challenging. This mall was busy. I ended up finding a spot close to the former Hudson's Bay store. I then walked over. I entered the eatery and a man greeted me. I let him know that I had a reservation under my name. He found it and guided me to a table in the corner of the eatery. My friend walked in and saw me through the window. They came over and we chatted while figuring out what we wanted to eat. We got these items: - Chicken katsu udon - Yuzu matcha soda (me) - Sirloin set (me) - Chicken teriyaki set - Dynamite roll One of my friends had udon for the first time. It was in broth. The chicken katsu came on a separate plate. I had a piece and it was tasty. She loved her meal. The udon was chewy. It looked good. My other friend was recovering from a cold, so we kept things safe by not sharing anything with him. He got the chicken teriyaki set and ate everything up. He ordered a dynamite roll and we had his California roll that came with his meal. I was pleased that his appetite was in good shape. She and I shared the California roll. It was delicious. It had imitation crab and avocado. This place was generous with ingredients in this roll. It was fresh and satisfying. I got the yuzu matcha soda. It was heavenly. I stirred it up before I drank it. It had the perfect balance of citrusy, sweet yuzu with good matcha and fizz. So refreshing! I loved my sirloin set. The sirloin steak don was exceptionally filling. The steak morsels were flavourful and perfectly cooked. It came with a lot of rice that was perfectly steamed. This set came with sashimi mori. I loved the salmon, but the smoked fish wasn't the best. The veggie tempura was excellent. The eggplant, sweet potato, and squash weren't greasy. They were crispy and yummy. The amazuzuke was excellent. I got white radish cubes that were pickled in what tasted like yuzu. Each cube cleansed my palate. I need to make some at home! The miso soup was excellent. I loved the cubed tofu. The salad was okay. The dressing tasted bland compared to everything else. It needed more miso or something. The sets were a great deal. The quality was superb. They are available every day between 11 am and 4 pm. We were too stuffed to get any dessert. The ube tiramisu intrigued me. I'll need to find room to enjoy it next time. It was busy here. The downside was that we had to flag our server to get more water and the bill. Otherwise, everything that we consumed was yummy. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and was done. Yay! I used the washroom before we left. The women's washroom was clean. No issues. This eatery is a great place to catch up with friends over delicious food. I'd like to come here on a weekday and gauge the parking scene. I'd return to try more good eats and drinks. (187)
