Wow! What a great discovery! The best pan fried Gyoza we have ever had. We even had a second order for dessert. The Dragon roll, Lobster roll and Volcano roll were unforgettable and all served so attractively. The salad with ginger dressing, often boring and limp at other establishments, was crisp, ice cold and had cucumber with the most delicious dressing. We dropped in tonight in the hopes of having an appetizer before the movie. It took forever to get our drinks, and we waited an hour for our order. While we waited, we saw at least four tables sit and then leave without getting food. Our server apologized, and was clearly the only person working out front. An hour later, the manager showed up, chewing gum and rubbing his nose. What a shame when dt Ocala is doing so much to attract people into the heart of the city. Go to Grace instead. Had such a nice meal here. Onion soup was wonderful on a cold night. Edamamae was delicious and the Red dragon roll was the bomb. I also ordered the slap your mama roll on the back page and it was THE BEST! ( I asked for the shrimp to be steamed instead of fried and it was no problem). Very nice quaint place on Broadway in historic downtown Ocala. Pam had the Sushi and said it was the best she had had sense we came to Florida. Everything was very fresh. If it was supposed to be cold it was ice cold and if was to be hot it was very hot which are two of the most important things to me. In the photo you can see the variety of sushi Pam had. The HUGE plus is that they had Gluten Free Soy sauce, normally Pam will bring it with her but today we forgot, but were very happily surprised. I had the Hattachi Grill Beef and Shrimp. It was great. The grilled veggies were full of flavor and still crisp and you could taste the freshness, The shrimp were large and perfectly cooked as were the pieces of sirloin. I would have preferred the steak not be cooked as much but the flavor was great. The dish came with a salad, fried rice and udon noodles. The salad was very bland iceberg with some cucumber and dressing but the rice and the noodles were cooked perfect and full of flavor. For beverages Pam had a Rodney Strong Merlot and I had a Kiren lite beer. The service was much better than the average Asain restaurant. read more

This was my third visit to Sushi Bistro. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is really nice! They were understaffed though (could have been an off night) so it did take a long time to even get our drinks, but it wasn't a big deal. The food was okay. I had them veganize their Cool Roll and that was fantastic but their Teriyaki Tofu Bento Box left a bit to be desired. It isn't a bad place, it just isn't a great place. read more

Bottom line first, a place to spend a lot of money and walk out hungry. Now for the full review. The name Sushi Bistro sounded exciting to me. As someone who has eaten sushi for over 45 years, I thought maybe I stumbled onto something new and exiting. As I walked in I was impressed with the upscale decor. Small, but very inviting. As I sat down at the sushi bar, the apparent owner/manager kept herself busy talking on her cell phone. I can only guess that she has other business ventures to attend to, and maybe Sushi Bistro is only a hobby for her. After waiting for a relatively long time (to me, since there was only one other couple in the entire restaurant), a young waitress finally gave me a menu. Since I was by myself I only ordered 3 sushi rolls. the African Spider roll, five wishes, and water-melon man. I also asked for miso soup. While I waited the sushi chef was very nice and gave me a complimentary appetizer of four ultra thin slices of a cucumber toll. Nothing substantial, but hey, it was nice to offer a new customer a welcome appetizer. Now you would think that one person ordering 3 "huge" rolls would be too much to eat. Well, I enjoy taking sushi left overs home to eat later that night. However, as they served each sushi roll one by one, I couldn't believe my eyes. Not only was each roll small compared to other restaurants, each slice was as thin as a thin cucumber slice! I could have put those pieces on my eyes while relaxing at a health spa. As I ate each piece, it didn't even feel I was eating much of anything. Yes, they were tasty......but how about giving me something for my money? Now the 3 sushi rolls almost totaled $40, and yet they charged me extra for the miso soup! Bottom line, I paid over $40 for sushi, not including tip, and I walked out hungry. p.s. The Watermelon-man roll name is very misleading. I looked at the ingredients, and there is no watermelon. I tried to figure out why they would name this roll Watermelon, and then I saw they use BLACK sesame seeds. So blacks eat watermelons? I find this very offensive! read more

Went here for lunch on a weekday. It was pretty empty inside, and we were seated right away. Our server was a short Asian lady with shoulder length hair. Never got her name. She was a sweetheart. The owner was sweet too, checking on us a couple of times, which was nice. I ordered off the little lunch special menu that was on top of the table. Tried the sampler appetizer (fried crab & cream cheese wontons, shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, spring rolls). You get a total of 8 pieces, two of each, with dipping sauces. That was delicious. I also ordered a California roll and a Caliente roll. The California roll was pretty typical, but the Caliente roll was a great surprise. Crispy fried fish, spicy red mayo, lettuce and avocado. Drizzled with some kind of dark sauce. Awesome. Lunch prices were great too. My check was $19.44, and I had the sampler appetizer, two sushi rolls and a drink. I was stuffed. Great place. read more
