Reason for Visit: Was in the area and wanted to check out this highly rated sushi joint. Menu: Simple basic menu. I didn't notice anything too out of the ordinary. Sushi was great, fresh. They have this special where you can pick any 3 rolls for ~$14. Pretty good deal. Only thing is that they don't give you complimentary miso soup with every meal, but it is okay. Service: The owner and I am guessing his wife are both very friendly people. Service was quick and professional. Atmosphere: Small restaurant. Very simple basic design. You probably need reservations if you have a larger group like 6+ as it doesn't fit too many tables. Overall: There is street parking right outside the restaurant, but limited spots. Pretty nice sushi restaurant. Decent prices and good food with great service. Pro tip- check in on Yelp to get free complimentary spring rolls (those were some tasty spring rolls)

The service was very good. The food was good, some better than others. The place did not look very nice, but it was not too bad. And a reasonable price for the value. The waitress was very friendly, and they served the food absurdly fast. They have good promotions during the week.

Spicy Salmon, unagi, dynamite roll
Jenny N.

Had the three Maki roll for $12.99. Pretty cheap, but mediocre sushi. Ordered the spicy salmon, dynamite roll, and unagi roll. Spicy Salmon was not spicy, but had a good size of salmon inside. Im not super fond of such a simple dynamite roll as well (shrimp tempura, avocado, mayo). Unagi roll was just sub par as well. Everything was kind of bland and just lower quality. Location itself is nice. Their wall of greetings is super cute. And every table has an outlet which is really convenient. The server was really nice and came out to refill our tea frequently.

Party platter A ($39.99) plus $1 to upgrade Cali rolls to Unagi roll. Free veg spring roll for checking in on Yelp

I ordered delivery. The staff that took the order was pleasant to talk to. I ordered the party platter A and asked to change the California roll to a Unagi roll. she did it with a $1 add on (pretty cheap). She gave 2 free veggie spring rolls for checking into Yelp even though it's supposed to be for dine in. She took credit card payment over the phone. Grade: A The food was good. The sashimi was pretty fresh. The rolls were good. A lot of ingredients and rice was very soft. The platter was nicely arranged. The only complaint was the soya sauce seemed diluted or maybe it was the low sodium one, but for some reason It did not have much taste. Grade: A The 3 star rating is mainly for the long delivery time. The staff told me it would be 45 minutes for delivery and it took 1 hour. I had to call the staff to check in on the delivery. I think it's a bit unreasonable given that I live 5 minutes away that it would take 45 minutes to begin with. I put the order in at 5:30pm on Friday. I know this is a reasonable time to quote, and I understand it was a busy Friday night, but it's unacceptable to be 15 minutes late when I live so close, and they told me it would be there in 45 minutes. The delivery person was apologetic, but this left a bad taste in my mouth. Grade: C- Since the food and price is good, perhaps I'll try dine in or take out next time.

This is how thin my salmon sashimi was, as was the rest of my chirashi don sashimi. My toilet paper is thicker than this. Don't think I'll be ordering from here again.

Avocado roll

First visit to Sushi Bay today and not my last. Great service and a nice cute and clean place. I ordered a small take out order as I was just on a walk. The veggie spring rolls were a crunchy goodness and the avocado hand roll was fresh and delish ! Definitely will be back to try more from their fabulous menu.

It's a great place, very cute and the food is amazing. The staff is very friendly, she's always smiling. :) I'm not from Toronto and I saw at Yelp that it is a new place in the neighborhood. My husband and I decided to try anyway and we don't regret. We've already come twice!!!

Having been to the other Hana Don location in North York multiple times, I was delighted when they…read moreopened a new location in downtown. It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

What I really liked was that they had 3 options of warm water - Hot, Warm, and room temperature. Instinctively I knew this place cared about the clients digestive health. Though I'm sure if you asked for ice water, they would accommodate (my friend asked for no sauces in her maki roll). The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends. It's not overly traditional, but it's easygoing, shareable, and comfortable.. the kind of place you'd come back to when you just want good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

The menu is set up to where you pick the entree and then what type of protein you want out of pork loin, chicken, fish, cheese, and sweet potato cheese. I settled on the sweet chili katsu. A piece of chicken arrived on a plate accompanied with rice and shredded cabbage. The chicken was breaded in a light panko like crumb and was half covered in the sweet chili sauce. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
