I ordered four California rolls, one crunch roll, and a KD orange roll for take-out. When I placed my order over the phone, I was advised it would be twenty minutes. I arrived twenty-five minutes later and observed that the restaurant was clean and well-maintained. There were three groups of people sitting and dining at numerous tables. I advised the female employee that I was there to pick up my order. After confirming my name, the employee said it would be a few more minutes while my orange roll was being made--no problem, I stated. I noticed a white, plastic-sealed bag containing six to seven rolls in plastic containers, sitting on the counter, ready for pickup. I asked the employee if that was my order. She checked the name on the receipt and advised that it was not my order. Ok, no problem, I stated. I waited, and waited, and waited some more. Fifteen to twenty minutes went by, and still, no sushi. The lone female employee was taking phone orders and handed two customers who had also been waiting for their orders. I glanced at the receipt attached to the bag that was resting on the counter, ready for pick up Unless someone else ordered the exact rolls I had ordered (4 CA rolls, one crunch roll, and one orange roll), this WAS my order. I asked the employee to please double-check my order, as I believed this order, which had been sitting on the counter the entire time, was, in fact, mine. The employee confirmed my name and advised, "Oh yes, this is your order. I made a mistake". She handed me my order, and I was gone. I was not upset about having to wait for my order, but I do wish the employee had checked the receipt attached to my bag more clearly the first time around. Oh well, stuff happens. I've been here a couple times, and it is always great! They have a widespread variety on their menu. From sushi to bento boxes, to appetizers, etc. Everything on the menu is/and looks so delicious! The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. Greeting you as you walk in! They are very attentive and make sure you're good! As for the food, they have a buy 2 get 1 free for sushi rolls, which is a win in my books! The prices are very fair for what they offer. We usually get the crunch dragon, and switch off between other rolls. ( the baked lobster roll is definitely a favorite as well!) Everything comes out fresh, and tasty! As for the restaurant itself, it's very clean, and as far as booths/tables, it's a good amount for when it's not too busy. I will say, we did come in on a busy night, so we had to sit at the sushi bar, which we didn't mind at all, but just keep that in mind! With that being said, I definitely recommend! I can't remember the name on the menu, but my roll had spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, crab, and fried rice paper. I liked it because it was so spicy. Some places are a bit too spicy for my liking or the flavor is too smoky. I do think the tuna could've had a little more spice but still enjoyable. My partner got the Philly roll (I think it was like a double version of the salmon). Finally, we split the James to get the best of both worlds. Papa Sushi & Roll blipped on my Yelp search after trying to find a sushi place in the general West/Covina area that wasn't a chain/AYCE since we wanted sushi, but not a huge amount of it. It's located in a low key plaza and open decently late. The sign in front, just says "Sushi & Roll" though, just an FYI. It wasn't too crowded of a late night dinner with only 2 other tables and some pick up orders. The waitress who was working was very attentive and helpful. There's sushi bar seating and some tables around. Very casual dining experience and affordable sushi and other dishes (ramen, udon, teriyaki, etc.). We got the: 1) Spicy Tuna Roll (8 pieces): -Fresh tuna, none of that bloody pink/red stuff. -Not too spicy, roll sizes were pretty big and there was a bit of cucumber inside too. -Solid spicy tuna roll. 2) Soft Shell Crab: -Decently sized soft shell crab as well. Nice and crispy with good flavor. -Didn't skimp out on the tempura crunchy roll bits or the sauce. 3) Crunchy Albacore Roll (8 pieces): -Also a very sizeable dish. Reminds me of what you can order at an AYCE sushi place to be honest. -Spicy imitation crab meat on the inside with tempura shrimp, albacore on top, with onions and crispy, fried garlic on top. -There was also a spicy, sour vinaigrette for this roll and added a nice kick and pick me up for the taste buds. 4) Salmon sashimi (5 pieces): -These are pretty big slices. Nice and fatty, can't go wrong with some good salmon. All specialty rolls come with a side of miso soup. It was a bit blander and more watered down than what I'm used to, but it had some bits of seaweed in it. Our water came in to go fast food cups, which is great when you think about it since it has been quite hot this summer. I want to see what their hot food dishes are like and would like to try a chirashi or sashimi special from here. Hopefully they expand their menu to include more nigiri and sashimi types! read more

I been here multiple times and every time the service is friendly and quick. I have gone late evening and busy times for dinner and each time the food is service quick, served hot and fresh. Ordered the buy two get one but all the rolls came with eel sauce. I don't remember seeing anything on the menu or pictures with eel sauce so it was disappointing as I don't like my rolls covered in sauce. We compromised and only mentioned 1 of the rolls to the server (she was great!) and she said she would have them remade. I told her it's ok don't worry about it Im not that hungry but she said it's the free roll so it's ok. She leaves to go tell the chef who may or may not be the owner to remake them and in the reflection of the window I can see him visibly upset shaking is head side to side and pacing back and fourth. He said something to her in a different language that didn't sound very pleasant. The whole time he's remaking my rolls he's slamming things banging on the equipment being extremely passive aggressive. The girl I was there with was facing him so he was doing all of this on purpose so she could see he was angry because the server asked him to remake the rolls because I didn't know they all came with eel sauce. I have NEVER experienced a chef, owner or server act this unprofessional in a restaurant towards me or my party. I could have easily gotten up and confronted his little tantrum but I didn't want to ruin the dinner anymore than it was already ruined or make a scene. The server was sweet and she did the right thing even when I said I didn't need the rolls remade.
