First and foremost -- the service sucks. Plain and simple. They're not friendly and they were not attentive whatsoever. My water glass sat empty for quite some time. Also the two rolls we ordered took far too long to make given the vacancy of the restaurant. Onward to the good: the sushi was quite yummy. I finally found my perfect veggie roll. Avocado, cucumber and sweet potato. My husband even caved and decided to order some fish (he WAS vegetarian up until this point). The jalapeno roll he ordered looked phenomenal. I wasn't very happy with their house salad. The dressing was too sweet for my liking. The salads at Sushi Tatsu and Sake are far superior and they're free. Granted the size of salad at Sushi Ai was much larger, but I'm all for sacrificing quantity for quality. I'll probably come back here eventually, but I would highly recommend going to Sake instead. read more

I have been to this "restaurant" several times...each time thinking that SOMEHOW it has got to get better. This is mainly due to the fact that I grew up LOVING the attached restaurant, China King. They have the best chinese food in town. I am pretty picky when it comes to sushi & japanese food, and have worked at several sushi restaurants in my lifetime. With that being said, Sushi Ai has some of the worst sushi I have ever tasted. The fish is NOT fresh, the rice is almost always overcooked, & their presentation lacks creativity and class. The only good roll I've had there (which is hard to mess up) is the shrimp tempura roll. For ponzu sauce, they merely give you a bowl of vinegar. Most importantly, let me touch in their service. It is horrible. The host/waiter there is extremely rude and rarely even greets you with a hello when you walk in the door. I've seen him do this to several people besides myself. He is lazy & does not check on the tables often or refill waters. He has a very monotone voice & it is obvious that he hates being there. He is more concerned about playing on his phone in front of customers than making sure that he earns his tips. If you're looking for good sushi in the O' Fallon/Fairview area, I would suggest heading over to Seven in Belleville or Wasabi in Fairview. They have the best sushi in the immediate area. read more

Looks like a Dive but it's a Sushi heaven! All you can eat sushi for $19.99. This girl can eat some sushi and often I end up spending $40 just for me... Love that I can eat as much as I want for $20! Although the food is very good the staff is horrible. I just think that perhaps they need to slowdown and pay attention. I would have given the more stars if they would be polite to their customers. read more

The food was amazing. The service not so much. All you can eat sushi for $19.99. It took 40 minutes for the first rolls to get to our table. I honestly think that the sushi chef's shift didn't start until 30 minutes after we were seated. Twice the incorrect food was brought to our table and I had to go to get the bill. I have eaten at the other locations and gotten better service so I will give them another chance but wow this was stunningly bad. read more

Horrible customer service. I've bought food here 10 times and they've given me a wrong order every time. The employees are loud and obnoxious the entire time. At times I found myself wondering if I was on a prank show. But when they managed to give me wrong items on carry out orders too I accepted that the incompetence was legitimate. At one instance I asked the server why the price of my meal was incorrect. Somehow that was interperated as "every employee here come stand around my table to figure this out." China King was exceptional before their expansion. But since this opened up, there has been a very steep decline in quality. The only reason I'm giving this a one star rating is because Yelp won't give me the option of selecting zero. read more

Sushi Ai - The reason this shrimp looks like broccoli is because this was my 10th wrong order out of 10 orders. That has to be a record. - Sushi Bars Near Me - O'Fallon, Illinois

Went in yesterday for the "all you can eat" sushi. My wife ordered 3 rolls for herself. I ordered 9 rolls for myself. The lady told me that 9 was a lot and wanted to be sure I can eat it all. I assured her I could. My wife's come out...3 of mine come out. I assume they are making the rest of mine so we didn't have to wait. We finish and the lady asks if we want more...to which I replied "I'm still waiting on the rest that I ordered the first time" and my wife ordered a couple more rolls. They lady brings the original order sheet out and asks me what part of my original order did I want. I told her I wanted the rest of what they didn't bring the first time. She says again "that's a big plate" I told her I know and I can eat it all, no worries. She goes away, comes back again a few minutes later and says "that's a big order, are you sure you want that much?" At that point I had heard enough and told her to not even bother with anything else for me, just whatever my wife ordered. She walks away and says nothing else to me. I've never had a worse experience at a restaurant and will NOT be going back. I've made this same order at other Sushi AI locations and had no problems. And guess what? I ate it all. I'm 6'6" tall and weigh 275lbs. Not sure what they didn't understand. read more

Great food! Horrible waiting :( I want so badly to give this place 5 stars, as that's what the food is... but can't. Paying $13 for all-you-can-eat sushi is awesome, and well worth the cost. The wait is ridiculously long for lunch two out of the three times I"ve been though, and definitely detracts from the experience. It has taken up to 15 minutes per order. Word of advice, order more than you think you'll eat the first time. You do have to pay 25 cents for every uneaten item, but it's much better than waiting, especially if you have to get back to work within a specified timeframe. read more

Absolutely and utterly in complete disbelief on how genuinely atrocious the service is here. Food is good tho

Whenever I'm in the Saint Louise area I make sure to find a sushi AI. I alway get fresh tasty meals.

So I've never been a fan of sushi, but this place is okay. The food is decent even though it's a small restaurant, it serves its purpose. The sushi is okay, and their lunch deal is too bad. read more

Even with having a Groupon at this place, my friend and I believe that this place was not worth it at all. The only reason why I would give it one star is for the decent service that we received. The rice to fish ratio for the nigiri was terrible, probably like a 8:1 ratio of rice to fish based on the photos below. The taste of the eel and salmon nigiri were okay but the tuna and white tuna was terrible and very fishy tasting, which means that it is not fresh at all. The rolls we're mediorce at best and consisted of 50% rice, 40% vegetables, and 10% of actual fish/seafood. The ice cream was very questionable. It was oddly chewy, icy and gummy. In addition, the ayce menu consisted of green tea cream, mango ice cream, and red bean ice cream. When we ordered it, they gave us vanilla ice cream instead of green tea ice cream. We asked the server about the error and he stated that they ran out of green tea ice cream and gave us vanilla without even notifying us of the change. Since there would be an upcharge if we did not eat it, we were forced to eat something that we did not even want to begin with. We will certainly not be coming here anytime soon until they fix up this place and create standards for their sushi. read more

Got some for to-go for lunch. Super dry rice and the fish was dry and rubbery. Definitely some of the worst sushi I have had.

Giving this review was hard. The sushi is good but not by much. It's definitely better than the sushi at a Chinese buffet though. I would say this place is good if you want quantity over quality. You can get a lot for their all you can eat prices. It's still my go to all you can eat in the area. The interior definitely needs updated. read more

The thing I hate most about this place is that I can't decide which roll is my FAVORITE! We've been here a few times over the past year, and have always had a great experience. Tonight, we walked right in to a freshly cleaned table, were handed chopsticks, napkins and waters as we sat down. Our appetizers came out quickly, followed by our orders of sushi. We always go with the All You Can Eat Sushi option (what can I say, we're gluttonous and like to roll out of there fat and happy) and then use a Groupon. We'll definitely be back! read more

Sushi is not fresh and dining area is not clean. Will NOT be going back. Ever. Only came because I acquired a free Groupon. Fish is chewy. Rule of thumb never go to a sushi place that has to emphasize their coupons to make up for their lack of freshness read more

Sushi Ai finally made its way to the MetroEast (thank God!). Their food is fresh and excellent. The rolls are delicious, and when you consider that you can have an all-you-can-eat menu for a very reasonable price - there is no better place to eat around O'Fallon. They've only been at this location for a few months. But have a strong following of like-minded patrons, who appreciate consistency. We prefer to dine at lunchtime - not too crowded, yet. We like that the service is efficient, and that they remember us each time we return (yes, we're repeat offenders). They don't use any sprays or harsh cleaning chemicals to clean their surfaces, like some of the other local eating establishments (yuck! ...and dangerous). You can feel safe inside Sushi Ai's petite dining room. Yes, they're adjacent to China King. But they've divided the space tastefully. Thank goodness for the lack of television - you can actually converse with one another! Others might find the abundance of fake bamboo cheesy; but we're the sort who appreciate the fun in that sort of decor. The space is rather relaxing, and a terrific respite from the regular workday. read more

Went here for the first time recently and was AMAZED the staff was fantastic and the sushi was delicious.

Poor service. Went for lunch. Server acted bored and could not care less. Kitchen brought out my food as she never checked in it. Chicken was good but salad that came with lunch was full of water and premade. Server never refilled my drink and had to be tracked down. Twice. Tables were not full. Place was empty. read more

This location is staffed with incompetent fools. I called ahead and asked about gluten-free options and was assured that what I wanted to order was gluten-free. I showed up at the store and politely ordered my food that was previously verified as gluten-free and once again assured that the food i ordered would be gluten-free. My order was brought to me at which time I once again, a third time, verified that it was gluten-free. I got back to my hotel room and my celiac wife ate one roll only to discover that vegetable roll had a fried carrot! Thanks for ruining my vacation with your incompetence and stupidity. read more

Coming from California, I am pretty picky with sushi. I have been here several times and don't know why it has bad reviews. It's an okay place for ok sushi and a good price. #1 all you can eat for cheap and they coupons for buy 2 get a 3rd person free are great. Food orders usually take 10mins per order put in. #2 The place is usually only 1/3 full of customers so you always find a seat. Nigri sushi slices and rolls on the small side so all you can eat is a bargain. Prices for sushi by the roll or piece are average sushi price. #3 Fish quality varies from good to ok, but are limited in what type are offered. The chef doesn't always seem to know how to slice it (sometimes does so away or with the meat "grain" - there is a right way), but is willing to make any roll you can come up with. #4 Service is lacking as we often have to really try to get server attention for food, utensils, or condiments. Their website is down at this time. All in all, we have always had a good time. #5 No kids menu but have cooked menu. Are in combined suite with china king chinese food; 2 entrance doors but one sitting area divided by curtain. This means there are plenty of cooked dishes for nonshushi lovers and kids. read more

I just moved to the area from California. I googled for Sushi and found this restaurant was nearby. I went in for the all you can eat Sushi. I arrived before the 3pm cut off time. By the time we were seated and given menus it was 3:05. I was told that I could order buy 2 and get 1 free. I said ok. My boyfriend ordered from the Chiba king menu. I ordered 3 rolls. His ordered came to the table while I waited for my rolls. About 20 mins went by and no rolls. I walked to the counter and asked how much longer did I have to wait. I was told 5 mins. Now 10 mins have gone by. I see the waitress take some rolls to another table. Now I'm a lil upset. I go back to the counter. No one is making rolls, the lady tells me that " Sushi is busy". I am not understanding what this means...I told the lady she can cancel the sushi order. I had been at the restaurant for 30 mins and did not receive any sushi. My first time experience was horrible.. I was hungry so I ordered a shrimp St. Paul. After about 5 more minutes I went to pay for my boyfriend's meal and the shrimp St Paul. The gentleman took my card and asked me to sign the receipt. I asked for my order before I signed. My second order was not ready. I had to wait another 5 minutes. I signed the receipt and I never will return... read more

I have been here a few times and still have mixed feelings about this place. I do not like the set up what so ever. It reminds me of being in a cafe. Not where I usually want to be when I eat Sushi. Although, if it was AMAZING sushi, I could eat it sitting on top of a cardboard box. I wasn't a fan of the Sushi Ai Roll. It wasn't at all what I expected for some reason. I did like the wasabi totiko and the spicy tuna. They were both flavorful. The service I got was pretty good the few times that I was there. It's close to my office so I'll probably stop by for lunch quite a bit out of convenience. read more

If you want decent sushi, for good prices, with good deals. This is your place. Atmosphere is not all that. But you forget once the rolls get to the table. Stopped by at random for a quick snack. As I was reviewing the menu it was straight and to the point. Saw they had an "All You Can Eat Sushi" and I'll tell you it's no joke. They changed the price on it ranging from $19.99 to $25.99 since I've gone the 6 different times out of a 5 month span. It's always been consistent when it comes to food quality, pricing, and service. It is a small location and it does have that calming feel to it. The sushi does have that "cheap" taste. It doesn't taste fishy and it doesn't take bad for being in the mid US. It's way cheaper than wasabi's if you looking to spend less and eat more. But if you're the average sushi eater you can definitely taste the difference in texture. It's always a go to for lunch to get a good stomach full. read more

The atmosphere of Sushi AI is nice.. The service is pretty good.. the Sushi is ok however I didnt care for the consistancy of any of the rolls that I had.. there was very little texture to it at all it felt as if maybe all the ingrediants had been blended together then rolled up. I ordered for take out and found their menu online. They posted it to Beyondmenu.com since they do not have their own website. I called and ordered and they told be $35 (and some change) over the phone. I get there and my card is ran for $55. I asked they why. They showed me completely different prices than what are online. I pulled up on my phone what I was looking at and they said it is over 5 years old and that they cannot honor those prices. I said I have never had a problem with this in the past as I had ordered from them 2-3 times a month for over two years. They would not honor those prices that THEY had put on Beyondmenu. Love this place! Great sushi at an affordable price. Of course lunch is always cheaper, so we go then. The sushi is all you can eat for about $12, so it can't be beat! It's not like other Asian buffets; the sushi is made fresh and to order. I didn't give 5 stars because that means that every aspect of the service and the food is without need for any improvements. The area they would do well to improve upon is the service. Sometimes, the servers have a hard time understanding English (and we have a hard time understanding them) and they can be a bit faster in their response time. More than once, with the server standing 5 feet away from our table, we have had to get their attention to refill our drinks or to take our order. The server was tapping away on her cell phone or otherwise inattentive to the few guests that were there. That being said, it's our Go To place for sushi! I don't mind slightly slower service if the sushi is good. PS We lived in Hawaii before here and know good sushi. This is good, despite what other reviewers might say. It's not the best in the world, but for the price it's well worth it. read more

I'm kind of curious as to why this isn't better rated. We came on a Saturday at about 5:30, and there was just one server. She did fine balancing all of the tables though, I think. Idk. Anyway, my husband and I came here with our 18m old because I had a Groupon for it. I half expected them to not let you use the Groupon for the all you can eat special they have, but surprise, surprise, we could use it. It's a great deal that I would actually pay full price for. We ended up only getting two rolls each, soup, and salad, though there was a ton more we could have ordered under the same deal. We just weren't super hungry. I also half expected the sushi to be mediocre but was again pleasantly surprised. Everything tastes good and fresh, and easily rivaled my other two go-to sushi places, Wasabi if I want to stay local and Drunken Fish if I don't mind a bit of a drive. Now, I'm more likely to come here instead of going to either of those places. I will say, the miso soup was different than expected, a little more murky than I'm used to. The salad was good. Overall, everything was great. It was a good, light environment too. Not as stuffy and pretentious as my two other spots. I enjoyed being there with my husband and my son, and they seemed to welcome my son and the other kids/babies that were there as well. Good spot! read more

We love this place. Is it the best sushi I've ever eaten in my life? No. Is it affordable and do you get a lot a bang for your buck? Yes. I love their volcano roll. Is there a better word than love? Cause it is AWESOME. I've never had fish that I want to spit out - which is more than I can say for other places in town. That being said. We average eating here probably 2 times a month. The servers don't act like they recognize us - ever. I'm not sure if they have no personality or they dont care. I would venture to say they lack personality. There's one young Caucasian girl who works there that is super bubbly. She is pretty attentive when she's there. If you're looking for the quality you get in California or Hawaii...you probably shouldn't be looking in Illinois. But, this place is good and I'll keep going. read more
