Very pretty to look at and probably great for instagram but the (blue monster) ice cream itself is not particularly noteworthy. It is a lot of ice cream and they top off the mason jar, which makes the high price tag slightly less painful. It is great to get once in awhile but a bit too much to get regularly. We built our own and got boba, lychee jelly, Oreos and caramel wafer as our add ins. A bit unusual combo but it was kind of interesting to have drink toppings in the ice cream. Located in a small plaza with a couple of parking spots on the side. Line moves quickly and very well staffed. You can get a slight discount by bringing back your mason jar.

It was not busy when we came in until after we ordered. When we got our order we grabbed a table to hang out. My daughter is usually happy when you get her boba. She gave me that look and said papa can you taste this? So of course I had to. Sure enough, the Thai tea tasted sour and citrus flavor. Far from Asian Thai tea. Not sure if this is their recipe but if I was to guess it tasted spoiled. So I asked the one-man team lady about getting a replacement for my daughter's Thai tea with brown sugar boba tea instead and great customer service because she replaced it right away. Problem sold. But for my Vietnamese coffee boba let me just say I'll order it from next door. Side note.
I came across Surreal Creamery on social media and was drawn to how aesthetic the floteas looked (a combination of bubble tea and ice cream). As a bubble tea lover, I had to try it. This place is extremely popular. Even when I went on a late Sunday evening in the summer, the line wrapped around the small shop several times. My husband and I ordered a Thai Milk Bubble Tea w/ Vietnamese Iced Coffee Ice Cream Flotea. It looked very aesthetic but tasted very mediocre. The thai milk tea tasted very generic, like the kind that's made with powder, but the vietnamese iced coffee ice cream tasted a bit better. Would I go back? : Bryn Mawr is pretty out of the way so probably not. If you're in the area, I think it's worth trying once but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.
I got the Nom Nom Cookie. It was blue soft serve topped with crispy chocolate chip cookies, marshmallows, oreos, and chocolate sauce. The soft serve itself wasn't that flavorful. Tasted pretty much like frozen water. I'd like a higher fat content. The toppings worked. Lots of sugary, salty, crunchiness.
I've had soft serve before but not this good. But let's start at the beginning. I walked up to this place and it's packed. It's a small shop with a plethora of flavors, options, and toppings. Once I finally pick my regular cup of earl grey and vietnamese coffee (you can opt for a mason jar for just $1 more if you want a mason jar), I was blown away. The sheer amount of soft serve to consume in one sitting is absolutely astounding. If you love soft serve or ice cream, this one is for you. Otherwise, I'd opt for the kids cup (no shame in that). But the flavors are so true to their name, I regret not having Surreal earlier. The early grey tastes exactly like vanilla but with a hint of earl grey that isn't overwhelming nor too subtle. The vietnamese coffee tastes exactly like vietnamese coffee in soft serve form. I tried the cookie monster flavor I think, which is blue and it tastes like cookies. It absolutely blew me away as to how the flavors are replicated so well. I'd highly recommend coming here just for a sweet treat, even if you're lactose intolerant. You won't regret sacrificing your insides just for this!!
How did I not know this is practically in my backyard?! What a delicious find. They have a massive selection of soft serve flavors, shakes, Boba, and other creations in mason jars.loads of toppings, you get the gist. Prices could be deemed higher for ice cream but portions are also comparable. I ordered the smallest size of taro softserve in a cup and it was easily enough for my bf and I. I cant wait wait to return. FYI - parking is super limited.
I love Surreal Creamery's treats!! The boba flotea is absolutely delicious, and I like how you can customize it. I got Thai milk tea with Vietnamese iced coffee soft serve, and the flavors paired really nicely! A few "warnings"--they're super popular and had a long line when I went. Also, the only available size is massive, and I wound up not sleeping super well due to being stuffed + the caffeine, haha. I've gotten a flotea at another location and shared it, which was the right call :) Would highly recommend coming here for a sweet treat!
For us this was probably a 3 to 4 star experience *but* they deliver on what they advertise so we're giving them a 5 star as people looking for this will probably adore it. We were really looking for someplace to relax with coffee, tea, and maybe some dessert when we landed here. The young man behind the counter was very patient and helpful as we were not familiar with what they were about. He offered us a trial of the earl grey and mocha and we really liked it so we ordered a kid's cup and one of their fancy iced teas. We then had to pick up to 4 treats to put on the ice cream so my dining partner chose a couple and we were done ordering. The tea was excellent. The ice cream was really pretty and tasted good, but it was a bit too sweet for us. It's a beautiful sweet expensive treat. We can see why it will be so popular as it's a IG experience.
This was our first visit as we were in the area and I had this bookmarked! Place was empty on a Monday around 1:00pm. The staff greeted us, and we took a look at the menu. They have a lot of preset selections for the Flo-teas which are the ice cream swirl + boba . We opted to make our own! We chose brown sugar boba and Earl grey /Vietnamese coffee ice cream which came to appx $11 with tax. The price is pretty steep imo but I will say that it was decadent, delicious , and worth a try ! Not something I would get regularly but it was definitely worth trying. The boba was very good, great flavor on the tea and good texture boba. Both of the ice cream flavors were delicious , you could really taste the Earl grey in the tea swirl 4 yelps mostly due to the price/value - great service and taste
I was super excited to try Surreal because of the novelty, but the Flotea that we tried wasn't out of this world. We had no regrets trying it, but if we go back we would probably only get the ice cream. We ordered a Taro Bubble Tea & Matcha/Taro Swirled Ice Cream Flotea. The waffle was great - eggy and sweet! The ice cream was very mild - we barely tasted the matcha flavor and the taro tasted like vanilla. The part of the ice cream that hit the bubble tea turned icy (like slush), so it was not enjoyable to eat. Our least favorite part was definitely the taro bubble tea. It was very bland - tasted only of watered down tea, there was no taro flavoring. Although the boba had good texture, it was also bland.
3/5 - Asthetic food, mediocre tastes Came here on a Sunday night around 9PM and this place was poppin. It was packed shoulder to shoulder inside (and masks aren't required unfortunately). I definitely felt uncomfortable being in there and waiting for my food. The workers were constantly yelling at people to keep the door closed, and the space is very small that all the chatter filled the room up with a lot of noise. There was 1 cashier working and 1 person preparing the food. The wait in line was extremely long, but once I ordered it took maybe 10 minutes for my order to be ready. Thai Milk Bubble Tea Vietnamese Iced Coffee Ice Cream Overall: 3/5 - The drink obviously looks amazing. It's asthetic and the focus of everyone's cameras. But after all the pictures are taken, you're left with a very average milk tea with some soft serve ice cream on top -- which is alright and all, but then there's this slush of sorts which separates the two. The slush is awful. So much so that it brought down my rating to a 3. The soft serve is amazing and the milk tea is average, but whatever that slush is in-between really killed the drink for me. I'm not a fan of slushes and I really wasn't expecting the drink to have this slush in it. It tasted like chunks of bland Thai Milk Tea ice cubes that kinda just melts down in your mouth. Thai Milk Bubble Tea: 3/5 - Your standard Thai Milk Tea made from Thai Milk Tea powder. Nothing special here. The bubbles were pretty alright, honestly I was expecting them to be a lot worse than they actually were (I'm a little impressed). Vietnamese Iced Coffee Ice Cream: 5/5 - The soft serve was really good. I really liked the Vietnamese Ice Coffee flavor, it tasted very close to the real thing. The consistency of the soft serve was good and the ice cream was soft and creamy. Final Verdict: I wouldn't travel all the way out here to get something ever again. However, if I ever am in the area for another reason, I'd opt to get only a soft serve or perhaps maybe try their milkshakes. I'd avoid the "Floteas".

It may seem pricey, but the portion size is actually pretty big-- I recommended sharing it with one or two other person. The place is small but surprisingly there was a good amount of seating. However, it can get really crowded and clustered during post lunch/dinner time. I love the unique flavors they have like Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Earl Grey! You can customize yours or get a pre-set menu. They come out pretty fast so stay attentive after ordering! Definitely go check it out!

A follow-up review for my 2nd and 3rd times coming here -- still a solid five stars from me! Every time I come here, I leave happy (and probably 1,000 calories heavier ). It's just that good. This time, I decided to go for a small chocolate ice cream to keep it a little lighter, and it totally hit the spot. I topped it with Oreo and a waffle cookie, and it was perfect. I also always have a hard time deciding what I want since the menu is full of everything I like LOL. Anyway, always a good time coming here, definitely one of my go-to dessert spots when I want to treat myself! read more

Surreal Creamery - A Sweet, Joyful Surprise in Bryn Mawr! This place is amazing! The combinations of ice cream are unlike anything I've ever seen -- creative, decadent, and just plain fun. The servings are generous, the flavors are delicious, and the presentation is a total wow. My wife and I had a coffee-based ice cream topped with white chocolate (incredible!), and our friend went for the taro bubble tea and loved it. Everyone left smiling from ear to ear. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe was welcoming. I'm honestly surprised the shop isn't bigger given how great the treats are. Sure, it may not help the diet -- but it definitely helps the soul! If you're anywhere near Lancaster Avenue, stop in and treat yourself. You'll be glad you did. read more

This place is definitely surreal. If you are a dessert and sweet this place is your 2 star Michelin star creamery shop. They have the both ice cream and bubble tea so take your pick based on what you feel! I got the matcha taro on a long cup. Holy... That combo is unreal good. I can taste the distinct matcha taste and taro taste yet at the end, it comes together and complements each other so well. The Earl tea ice cream wasn't really my cup of tea (pun intended) but if you like that earthy taste, totally for you. The second was Thai tea ice cream with Oreos and chocolate sauce in a mason jar. Holy... This was one of the best things I have tasted. The explosion of sweetness was... Surreal... The price is expensive for the ice cream however, the amount that they give is ungodly. I would recommend you sharing one with 2 people unless you live sugar and don't want to share. The place is very clean since it just opened; staff is super friendly and explains everything if you have any questions! read more

Heard so much about this place and seen all the wonderful pictures on Instagram but there was none near where I lived. Finally got to try it when we visited Philly. Everything looked as good if not better than on Instagram. I thought the ice cream tasted ok. But we only got taro and no tea because we share it with a 3 year old. My wife tried her friend's matcha and said it was very good. There were a few tables there if you want to eat there. If I remember correctly there were only 3 or 4 parking spots outside. Service was pretty good. Would love to go back again and try other things on the menu. read more
Since Big Gay Ice Cream left Center City/South Philadelphia during the pandemic, I've been craving good soft serve, and heard about Surreal Creamery through a friend and planned a "trip to the 'burbs" (ostensibly to walk around Chanticleer Gardens, but mostly to go to Surreal Creamery!). Surreal Creamery did not disappoint: staff was friendly and except for those eating, staff and clients were wearing masks. Ordering was easy--menus were easy to read and we loved the "make your own" options for bubble tea, cups, or shakes. I made my own adult-sized cup* mixing Vietnamese coffee and chocolate soft serve with (1) chocolate crunch, (2) rainbow sprinkles, (3) chocolate syrup, and (4) whipped cream. Although "pick up to 4 toppings" sounds as though it could be "too much," the cup was well-balanced when built and delicious. We also got a Vietnamese coffee soft serve shake with (1) chocolate syrup, (2) cinnamon toast crunch, and (3) whipped cream. Will definitely return next time we're outside the city! *Also comes in a kid-sized. read more

A friend recommended this place and we finally got here. So happy we made it. It is so worth of it. I wanted to try the bubble tea and ice cream. It's a new concept for me, although the size of it is too big... basically the whole thing is longer than my head!!! The flavors we had was earl grey bubble tea, which turns out to be not so sweet- great! And the Vietnamese coffee ice cream. Really love this combo: when the ice cream melted, the bubble tea got the coffee flavor, which is perfect. The only issue was again the size of it. I feel that it is good for 4 ppl to share... The staff was also very nice, answering all our questions. A cute place to hang out with friends. Would definitely come back! read more

I got the taro boba with matcha and taro soft serve over it, and I really wanted to like it. The location is cute, the dessert was beautiful, and the waitstaff were so incredibly friendly. But it was just two components, each of which was done poorly. The boba themselves were bland, the taro milk tea lacked any of its usual distinctive earthiness, and the soft serve was again just bland. I would consider coming back and getting something like chocolate, which is hopefully harder to leave without flavor, but it just wasn't a particularly indulgent or delicious dessert. read more

My two loves in life! Ice cream and boba have come together in the most beautiful way at Surreal Creamery lol This was my first time visiting and I couldn't have been happier with the experience. Everything from the service to the ice cream and boba were all just perfect. The woman helping us was so nice and patient as we were deciding since it was our first time - she even offered to let us sample the ice cream and the boba. I'm a little picky when it comes to boba and theirs is really good - the texture and taste is excellent! We tried the floteas (ice cream over bubble tea) this time - and just chose the standard options off the menu, but they allow you to customize it too. I can't wait to go back to try their signature mason jars - the nom nom cookie mason jar is calling me! Just be aware that they give you A LOT! The floteas are definitely a shareable size. And it looks that way with the mason jars as well. read more

I was so looking forward to trying here. The items here always look amazing. Ordered through DoorDash and they were super quick. I tried the Cake Jar and Bubble Tea combo. Ordered the mango bubble tea. The drink looked amazing until I noticed a white flake in the drink. After a quick stir, there was a ton of them. I feel bad having to request a refund but I can't even begin to think of trying it. read more
Came in for some late night dessert when I was in the Bryn Mawr area. I had heard a lot about Surreal from the location near Rutgers in NJ. I was happy to see that they are slowly expanding locations through PA. Although I came in on a Wednesday, it was quite crowded. This makes sense considering that this location is in the middle of several college campuses. Upon walking in, I was shocked by how incredibly hot the temperature of the inside was. I honestly felt bad for the employees working. After waiting about 7 minutes for some customers in front of me, it was time for me to order. The employee running the register was helpful in answering questions I had regarding customizing my own ice cream. I went for a Custom Mason Jar. I chose Taro Soft Serve topped with Lucky Charms, Fruity Pebbles, Condensed Milk, and a wafer cookie. I waited for about 10 minutes until my order was ready. While the wait wasn't too long for how busy it was, the heat was killing me. I felt bad for the employees; they seemed to be understaffed for how busy they were. Once I grabbed my order, I searched for napkins and spoons. Both dispensers were empty after I grabbed one of the last napkins in the dispenser. In terms of my order, I was super excited to dig in. The ice cream portion is very large. Regardless of it being 12 dollars, I get a huge dessert and mason jar to keep. For prices nowadays, that seems fair to me. I walked outside to have my dessert before the heat inside completely melted it. In terms of the taste of my ice cream, I was obsessed. The Taro Soft Serve is creamy, tasty, and very flavorful. The toppings I had gotten complemented the taro flavor very well. The only issue I had was trying to eat my ice cream portion fast enough before the bottom portion of the jar became too runny. Regardless, I found the eating experience very enjoyable. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this place. The service was lacking a bit, but I came in on a very busy night. Every employee seemed to be doing their best to still be pleasant despite the rush of customers. For the amount I paid, I felt that the portion, taste, and quality were awesome. The portions make it more of a big dessert/ice cream for dinner kind of place, and I'm totally happy with that. I'd visit any surreal location in the future. read more
This ice cream looks cool AND tastes amazing. I love all the possibilities of creating your perfect dessert. The staff is really helpful when trying to DIY or customize the options and add toppings. There is seating inside, and some outside, along with tables to sit at and enjoy. The quantity of ice cream they give you is gigantic, and luckily there are spoons and straws to help with that! We got the Chocolate Blackout Mason Jar and Thai Milk Bubble Tea & Vietnamese Iced Coffee Ice Cream Floater. Absolutely delicious and worth the price! I had the chance to visit my brother whose doing his Masters a Villanova. He told me about place and after seeing a couple photos I thought it would be good to try. The flavors they had were solid. There was a weird smell in the restaurant but the dessert was amazing. Took some good photos. The line gets long pretty fast. read more
Great "treat yourself" spot! So many topping options and love the Asian inspired flavors! I've been here a handful of times and I can say every flavor is great. The only thing I would say is that I wish the earl grey came through a bit stronger but that's just personal preference. They will generously load you up with tons of ice cream so it gets pretty messy trying to eat before it melts and spills. Ask for an extra cup, take your insta pics and then just scoop the top half off into the cup. Never done this but just thought of it now. Overall a great spot and will continue to visit frequently! Also, they work pretty fast, every time I went it's been pretty busy but wait times remain low. read more
