The ambience upon entering is incredible, the floor to ceiling wood is cozy and warm, the eclectic decor is thought provoking an interesting to look at. We came in at noon on a Saturday (they close at 2 pm) and were greeted unenthusiastically... when I ordered food (waffle and breakfast bowl) the employee working the register sighed and seemed so extremely inconvenienced by our patronage. I asked if we should go? It was really uncomfortable. She said of course not sweetie. It was still uncomfortable. For a tiny town I'm sure this is a staple but it's been one of the worst customer service experiences ever for me. The waffle and breakfast bowl were both very good. Ugh. The absolute worst cup of coffee I have ever had. (And I grew up in church.) I ordered the biggest one because I had only gotten an hours sleep and I was in town for work. Undrinkable. Also, it took me 45 gd minutes to get it. I ordered from the kiosk. While I was slogging through that, another couple of people order with the girl behind the counter. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich but from the texture of the bacon it had been precooked BUT EVEN IF IT HADN'T, 45 minutes is inexcusable. I've worked food service long enough to know how it works and this young woman needs some more training. After I had waited 30 minutes I asked about my order and the ticket was in a pile of other tickets still attached to the machine. And you don't cook one thing at a time!!! If there are 3 orders, all with eggs, you cook ALL THE EGGS at the same time. Obviously I'm grumpy because no sleep, AND shit experience. Double grump! I gave it 2 stars because the sando was edible. And if the boss of this place reads this, her being the only one working is not an excuse. Any experienced food server could have handled the crown of 3 no problem. It's not her fault though. Cute little coffee shop located in Pacific Beach. There's not much out here but this place is always open in the morning to make my venti soy latte. The barista was so kind and friendly. They have a cool retro all in one video game machine that I used to pass the couple minutes we were waiting while others were getting their drink orders. The bathroom is pretty cool. Apparently many eateries close up after the summer season. We happened to stop in during the Christmas holidays and found this restaurant mostly closed up. Still, there were a few tables available for dining. Our table had a view of the surf perhaps a few blocks away. The abiane here is artsy. Knotty pine walls and ceiling, with plywood floors. A calming vibe resides here. Ready for breakfast, we ordered a breakfast burrito and a breakfast bowl. The breakfast bowl was $8. With a couple bottled juices and a 24 oz. hot tea, the total came to $30 and change. I added a 20% cash tip. Kinda pricey for what I got, but there aren't too many places to eat near my lodging this time of year. For this resort area on the coast, I can't imagine the prices are much different during the tourist season. read more

The older lady with shorter black hair was extremely rude and unsanitary, she seemed really upset and rolled her eyes when we asked for our lunch all we wanted was a surf house burger and a chicken bacon sandwich, she also looked like she wasn't changing her gloves and was touching everything all over the counters with her gloves. Dirty chai is my go to and they nailed it. This is our go to coffee shop whenever we come to stay in Pacific Beach.

Went there twice in our trip. The first time went well and the long haired blonde barista/attendant was nice and we all chatted and had a good time. The biscuits and gravy were tasty and the breakfast burrito was well made. We liked the espresso coffee so we went back the next day. Unfortunately we had an entirely different experience the second time. A different barista who had shorter brown hair was on her laptop putting in an order when we arrived so we were told it would be a few moments. That's okay, no big deal. But a few moments turned into 5 minutes and we were standing there just waiting for her to get off her laptop. She was clearly frustrated that we were there because she was discourteous. I get that her morning was busy and she had to get an order in at a certain time, but she didn't need to make our mornings crappy too. Her attitude towards us was less than stellar. We ended up deciding to cancel the rest of our order and leaving. She gave us the drip coffee for free which was bitter and we threw it away anyways, but I suppose that was a nice gesture. read more

Service wasn't very fast but I blame the two customers ahead of me (asking for their drinks to be remade because the customers forgot to ask for modifications). Barista working was not friendly and seemed annoyed we ordered breakfast sandwiches. No employees or customers were wearing masks. You could see a used mask sitting on the back room counter where they prepare food. Barista also used her bare hands to grab our food and assemble the breakfast sandwiches. Not once in the 30 minutes we were there did I see her wash her hands. The ultimate thing for me was this hair/pube stuck to the side of my cup. Our early morn road trip continuation called for caffeine. I was certain there was nothing other than gas stations for the next thirty minutes of the drive so I was thrilled to discover Surfhouse Coffee when I pulled up the Yelp app. A charming and delightful surprise in the small village of Pacific Beach near Moclips, WA. We followed the recommendations of the Yelp photos and ordered two hot cinnamon rolls and one breakfast egg sandwich. We were not disappointed. The cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing were soooo good! If they're not warm/fresh out of the oven, I recommend asking for them to be heated up for the optimum taste experience. They serve Seattle's Best Coffee (the brand) and you'll find all the staples like cappuccinos and lattes with all sorts of syrups available, if you're into the "froo froo" drinks. The space itself is very charming with several tables, lots of natural light and a small couch seating area. The only thing that would have made it better would be friendlier service. read more

On our way out of town we stopped in to Surfhouse Espresso...and I am so glad we did! It is a quirky little cafe that we felt instantly comfortable and welcomed in. I had a hard time deciding my drink and so there was a mix up on my drink order. I told the barista it was alright because I would give that one to my husband and order a cappuccino. I really was a little confusing with my order...couldn't decide between a Macchiato or a Cappuccino. She insisted that it was on the house and that she wanted me to have the right drink!! This place is part of our family tradition when in Pacific Beach. Comfy cabin feel, piano, wicker basket/glass table, couch and two chairs in the "living room", friendly staff. Credit card OK on purchases over $5. Decent amount of other seating - 4 tables, 4 stools, and a few seats out on the narrow deck. I go for breakfast sandwiches, bacon or sausage, egg, cheese; cinnamon rolls and waffles. Recent stop was for 4 drinks, three sandwiches, a waffle and a cinnamon roll. $33. Drinks made with Seattle's best coffee are pretty consistent. Cinnamon rolls are good but need to be heated and could use more cinnamon and frosting for my sweet tooth. Waffles are also tasty and cooked to order. They also have lunch bites like hot dogs and clam chowder but I haven't tried those. Smoothies are also on the menu along with about 10-12 ice creams. Great for when the sun is out at the beach! They also have beautiful cards ($10 each) handcrafted by artist Jessica Ditto. We bought one to give away (wedding theme) and the other, a ballerina, to frame for our daughters room. read more
