I'm still licking my fingers and smacking my lips. I had the shrimp and lobster po boy. My husband had the perch dinner and 1/2lb of fried alligator. I think he had to disappear to lick his fingers where I couldn't see him Seriously I have NO idea where this place has been all my life. The fries were not some frozen French fries from the grocery store. They were fresh cut potatoes and totally well seasoned. Greens seasoned with turkey - ah-mazing. All I have to say is "You have a friend in me!" Only recommendation is to please use a hoagie roll instead of the bun. This was an alright seafood carryout. I was in the mood for some fried fish and wings. The shrimp Po'boy was really delicious! Also enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. The fries were nothing to brag about. My fish were fried to crispness. It was good. I had the catfish and the tilapia with a side order of wings. The wings were a little overcooked. I stopped in supporting my new local hood, lol. I know the male owner (Tuck), so I like to support those I know. I ordered online thru Yelp/Grubhub while I was getting my nails done. It took me awhile to arrive so when I did my order was ready. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted, not by the young lady at the counter, who was on a call in order and was busy for about 10mins on the phone, no greeting from the female owner who was there and saw me waiting, or the 2 other employees. So that's why the 4 stars instead of 5. My order was ready and paid for, had I been acknowledged when I initially arrived it would've alleviated me lingering in their lobby. Because as soon as the cashier spoke, she handed me my food and I left. Something the owner could've done. *SIDE EYE* On to my food. I ordered hennessy wings, fried catfish, fried green tomatoes, fried shrimp, & the bomb sandwich (fried lobster/shrimp). I ate the shrimp in my car I was starving!!! It was good too. Maybe delivery was the problem. I got gross fries, soggy and dripping grease. I loved the menu items being that I moved up here from New Orleans, but the food didn't even come close. Valentine's Day was the first time having Surf's Up. My boo and I decided we wanted a "romantic seafood meal" while watching movies and dessert - from home! So we ordered a pound of the alligator nuggets. This order sadly left out the coleslaw and bread, but the gator was seasoned deliciously and the fries were cooked well and salted. The second time visiting was about a week ago. We both got 1lbs of gator again (so 2lbs total). I'm not a big coleslaw fan so my boyfriend ate both and said they were good. I order fried green tomatoes (3 pieces) and 3 pieces of catfish. Mind you no fries added to the order, total $17.30‍‍‍. The owner was there. I asked him did he think his prices was fair? Response....."I could complain about the rent I pay here or the taxes I have to pay, so $17 don't sound so bad". Then he walked away. No wonder this joint had no customers. Excellent hidden gem! When I first saw this seafood place in the 'new businesses' on yelp, I bookmarked right away wanting to try it. I love anything lobster and crab and the fact that this is a local, black owned business just makes it even more special. I would recommend placing an online order with them because they do get busy. We ordered thru door dash for pick up and it was about 30 minutes or so. Be prepared that you will have to wait a while if you just go there and order in person. I got the lobster and shrimp combo and the flavors were out of this world. I loved it, everything tasted fresh and cooked like how it was supposed to be. There was definitely no leftovers. Surf's Up really does specialize in seafood. I was also able to try the fried fish and it was delicious. However, their chicken was not up to par as to what we were expecting. Maybe next time, we'll try the hennessy ones which is what they are best? known for. The tacos and po boys were also on our list to try next. I would also say the fries and the fried green tomatoes were okay as well. I can't wait to order more things off of their menu as I had a hard time deciding on what to get the first time around. I was served by the owner & his son who were very friendly & warm. I ordered Shrimp & Gritz, Turkey Greens & Fried Green Tomatoes w/ a can of A&W Root Beer. The FG Toms came w/ homemade roumalade sauce. This dish stole the show. It's hard to find it anywhere & is often super soggy or too salty, but not here! They were absolutely perfect. Tried this place for the first time tonight 4/23/21. My husband said he saw that it had good Yelp reviews. He and I got catfish dinners that came with "fries." Our two daughters got 1/4 lb shrimp and we ordered two orders of fries bc fries were not included with their shrimp. When we got home we noticed the fries were severely over cooked fries. (See pics) We tried to eat them, pick through the burnt ones to find ones that were somewhat decent but ended up throwing them away. Also there was only one sauce with the catfish dinners, the Hennessy sauce, which my husband paid for. I said where is the hot sauce for my order??? We are ok paying for an extra sauce but where's the one sauce that should come with my order???? I've gone to places like Babba's, Sharks, Harold's (in Chicago) and they offer a choice of sauce with your meal. If you want more there's a charge. I tried this restaurant based on a recommendation from a friend. Instead of calling the order in, I ordered "in restaurant". The cashier was nice but seemed a bit aloof. I ordered 5wings/fries and asked for the wings to be cooked well done. I asked about the fried biscuits and the cashier said they were really good but she couldn't explain exactly what they were. I ordered mild sauce on the side and added a side of their special Hennessy sauce. My total was $18. The 2oz cup of Hennessy sauce was $3. Ikr?! 5 wings, french fries, sauce on the side and fried biscuits-$18. For this price, I'm expecting my socks to be knocked off. They stayed on. The cashier told me I could sit in my car and she'd bring the food out when it was done. I asked how long and she said about 10-15mins. So I sat. And I sat. And I still sat. After 25mins I decided to go back inside because maybe they forgot about me. Nope. She told me another 5 mins and she would bring it right out. Did she? Nope. So I sat. And sat. And, well, you know the rest. 15 minutes later, she brought my food out. I checked my order and it was in tact. I couldn't help but try a fried biscuit because it was all I could smell inside my car. While it wasn't bad it wasn't great and it certainly was not worth $5. It put me in the mind of funnel cake dough soaked in oil with barely any powdered sugar on them. So it was just fried dough dripping grease. I digress. The wings were decent, reminiscent of Harold's Chicken Shack. The mild sauce was ok. The Hennessy sauce was pretty good although I'll never buy it again. $3 for 2oz? No thank you. The fries were a huge let down because I love fresh cut french fries, but all I got were small burnt crisps with a few sizable fries, about 5-7. I think as they settle in they'll get things right OR maybe I caught them on a bad day. Although, after this, I'm not sure I'll try much else from their menu and I'm certainly in no hurry.
