    KANI SALAD
    Lulu T.

Been here a few times and the food is mediocre and overpriced. You can genuinely get the same anywhere else. Their shrimp tempura roll was decent and so was the spicy crab roll spent $23 for it...Kani salad was ok but dry and not the best. Their chicken dumplings are ok as well. Their shrimp tempura were good. Nothing really spectacular. If you want something quick I would suggest. Service is a bit lukewarm. Place is beautiful though.

I've eaten in the restaurant several times, usually the ramen, and it was fine. Nothing spectacular, but consistently decent. Ordered takeout for the first time today and it was not good. Kani salad had way too much mayo, yellowtail roll was bitter and I got a sad piece of white tuna nigiri that was small, dried out and cost $8.25 for the single piece (normally there would be two). I will not order sushi from them again.

Great spot for a quick lunch / dinner. Servers are very attentive and service is quick. Highly recommend the Seven roll (pictured but with soy paper). I have tried the vegetable gyoza and chicken - - I preferred the vegetable. The hot sake is also good and for the price you get a decent amount. I personally enjoy sitting at the counter and watching the master chefs :-) but the overall experience in the restaurant area is great. Highly recommend for a good neighborhood spot with quick service.

2nd time leaving a review. Decided to give them another shot, this will be the last. Do NOT recommend anybody going here, ridiculously overpriced. Got the Suram Bowl for ~ 30$. What do you get? 95% white rice, a quarter avocado and one roll worth of fish. Pokebowl ripoff.

    BLACK SESAME CHEESE CAKE
    Marisa M.

Food is good but overpriced. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I really liked the salmon carpaccio. It melted in my mouth and the citrus with the truffle oil was a good combination. There is a single bathroom that was kept clean so that's good. And the food came out quick. The sesame cheese cake sounded good and different, it was pretty dense and it wasn't amazing but still good. They drizzled maraschino cherry juice over it which doesn't really go with black sesame. I made a reservation through google but apparently that doesn't do anything, I told the waiter and he said they don't take reservations. It wasn't too bust at 6:00 on a Friday night. It is a small place with about 10 tables. Downsides were the prices and the floor was very very slippery coming in. It was raining outside so it was soaking wet and I almost slipped and fell multiple times. Someone should mop the floor when it rains.

Had a lovely time with my little one. Food is always fresh, light and delicious. Service is attentive, prompt and kind. The space isn't big and can feel a little tight but still pleasant. It can get pretty busy so I'd advise to call before walk-in.

Nice quiet spot with good variety of options best for a quick meal with friends. Suram is relatively small which gives a nice neighborhood vibe. It also makes it easy to grab the attention of the waitstaff. The decor is warm with an emphasis on wooden panels and soft lighting. There is a good variety of food options including sushi a la carte, omakase, ramen and specialty sushi options. I was not particularly impressed by the quality of ingredients but the rolls were put together well. I most enjoyed the tuna and salmons crispy rice. The special roll "six" was also quite good. I would skip anything very simple because the sauces really help here. We did not enjoy the avocado crab rolls or the shishito peppers. Overall this neighborhood spot gets a soft 4 stars as a decent option for a bite with friends. I enjoyed the meal and the prices are very fair but I prefer sushi spots that emphasize ingredient quality. I may stop in again to try the ramen.

For a $13 carafe of hot sake, you can't go wrong with we ordered two because how could we not! It went down great with our dishes- sushi deluxe and chirashi. The fish was super fresh and flavorful and served nice, thick cuts. It was so good I wanted more! While it's a smaller restaurant, it created a nice vibe where you can take your time eating and chatting over drinks.

Came across this place while walking away from Hudson Yards in search of food. The ambiance was definitely more "polished" on top of their Japanese decors. The service was okay, as food came out pretty slow.. especially the Japanese ramen. The sushi came out first and my friend was already half way through when we had to ask our waitress again when the ramen was coming out.. By the time it came out he was already done eating and was nibbling on some leftover avocado salad. The shishito peppers were huge and barely seasoned.. not sure what we were supposed to taste.. The ramen was a bit bland too and I used a lot of the chili oil(?) that it came with. Overall, it was just okay b/c a lot of the dishes were a bit bland and service could have been better.

I saw this place from the outside and thought it looked nice to drop in for an early dinner. Pics looked nice from Yelp, but I must say I was very underwhelmed. Staff were helpful, and the ambiance was nice, chill, quiet. However, the food looked sloppy, what was supposed to be spicy tuna rolls were not spicy. The fish was just overly big for no reason. The fish did not appear to be as fresh as I am used to. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be returning.

I've been to the Ichiran in East Williamsburg but found this location to be more hectic and touristy, naturally. You order on a tablet, pay (no tip), and then are directed to a seat by a welcoming host. Poor guy must have to repeat the same spiel a billion times a day. I just defaulted to Ichiran's suggested levels for everything which made it fast and easy. Once you're at your assigned cubbyhole, you can hang your coat up on the wall behind you and fill up your water cup at the machine also behind you. You don't even see the face of the person who brings out the ramen which gives the whole process a mysterious bank teller vibe. With all this, the classic tonkotsu ramen ($23) with slender noodles nearly gets overshadowed, but don't fret since it's fantastic. I believe when you're done, you just get up and leave. Surprisingly, one of the instructional posters does not go into this.

When you walk into the restaurant, you pre-order at the touchscreen to the right of the entrance and later when you're seated you give the order receipts to the server at your window. The food at this location is obviously going to be pricier than it is in Japan (came out to around $60 for 2 people), but it is SO worth it as you can't get Ichiran anywhere else besides in Japan.

After my first visit: This is my favorite ramen restaurant on the planet. It's my perfect…read morerestaurant - but not because of the ramen. Because of the desserts! First - Tonkotsu (pork) ramen was perfectly balanced. The broth was deeply flavorful but not heavy, almost like an 80/20 hybrid of tonkotsu and shoyu (soy sauce) ramen. Noodles were springy and not overcooked, and the roasted pork had a slightly smoky flavor and was flavorful itself, not just protein and texture like many other ramen joints. We also had the edamame appetizer - super flavorful and addictive, and we wound up ordering a second one (for our party of four) after devouring the first one. Now here's why it's my favorite ramen restaurant- my favorite dessert is banana pudding, and Tonchin's signature Tokyo banana dessert is an elevated banana pudding that makes magnolia bakery look like amateur hour. Plenty of fresh banana and a carmelized banana on the side with a balanced pudding that's not too heavy - this is peak banana pudding. So it has my favorite ramen and favorite dessert. But can it do better? Yes. It can also have...my second favorite dessert! Tonchin has excellent shave ice desserts that reminded me of Korean bingsu. We had the strawberry and it was fresh, bright and had lots of strawberry flavor. Delightful. Service was excellent and the ambiance of the space is dark and elevated. I've had them before so I knew what to expect but it was way too salty, less flavorful. Had a very nice flavor, the salt overpowered it though. I tasted mushroom. The sauce stuck to the noodles well and the noodles were delicious. My daughter and husband ordered the spicy ramen and they said it was very very good. Couldn't decipher distinctly from other top notch ramen so it wasn't knock your socks off. From now on I'll order the base dish when I go places so I can judge better. The gyoza was cooked very nicely, came sizzling and the bun with meat was a little ugly, it looked boiled and unappetizing. The taste was just okay. The topping on it was notable. The waitress didn't help us at all when ordering. We weren't bowled over with the food, although it was noted the meat in the ramen was high level. It hit the spot but I will try other places in the search for our "return forever" ramen place.

For a restaurant, especially one serving customizable ramen dishes, with a allergy list post on the wall by the counter where I sat at B1, a little flexibility or empathy toward food allergies would go a long way. The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, which made the overall dining experience uncomfortable. Customer service matters just as much as the food, and sadly this visit fell short. The smashed cucumber was good. Spicy dumpling was good. Ramen broth was light, not as rich or flavorful as others.
