Update due to Dr. Cherry's response below: I do have vision insurance, I would not have been able to have the initial consults and surgery without insurance. I did have the eye exam after the surgery and a prescription was generated, Dr. Cherry even acknowledged that there was a change from my prior prescription. Per the federal law, any eye doctor must provide the patient with a paper copy of any eye glass prescription after the exam and MAY NOT CHARGE for it. A report has already been filed with the FTC as this is fraud on patients. read more

Dr. Surat Cherry, MD performed cataract surgery on both eyes, I had Clareon Vivity IOL lens put in each eye. His surgery procedure went seamlessly and without issues and no pain, the visual results post surgery were wonderful. The actual surgery was about six months ago, I continue to have great reading, middle and distance (driving) vision and am very pleased with the procedure and results. Avoid this doctor if you have any type of deductible with your insurance plan! I have been a patient for the last 3 years, and usually paid out of pocket because my insurance was not accepted. I was paying $250 out of pocket for my annual comprehensive eye exam. If you call and ask what the out of pocket fee is for a comprehensive eye exam, $250 is what they will tell you. I got a new insurance this year and was excited that it was accepted, because you would think I would owe less using my insurance. That is far from what happened! The office billed my insurance $670 for my annual comprehensive eye exam and when I questioned them about the significant difference between what they charge for out of pocket paying patients and insurance paying, they tried to tell me that they conduct more tests when you use insurance versus pay out of pocket. That is a complete LIE, because the last 2 years when I paid out of pocket, I received the exact same tests as this year when I used my insurance. When I asked about this again, they tried to cover their tracks by saying the doctor must have offered the additional services with the out of pocket eye exam as a "complimentary" procedure. Using my insurance, I had to pay the doctor $352.22 out of my own pocket compared to the out of pocket fee I was paying of $250 when I did not use insurance. They explained the $250 out of pocket fee as a "complimentary discount" offered by the doctor for people who do not have insurance. I guess they just assume that people who can afford to pay for insurance can also afford to pay higher prices. Where is the "complimentary discount" for the repeat customers whose insurance is not going to cover the outrageous inflated prices they are billing the insurance companies?!? It's a shame that this doctor is more concerned about money and trying to milk the insurance companies for all he can get, rather than focusing on patient satisfaction and retention. I will no longer give this doctor my business and highly suggest you check with your insurance regarding your cost before informing this doctor you have insurance. They even threatened me by saying they could find out I had insurance if I did not disclose it to them and then use it, which is absolutely ridiculous! I do not have to use my insurance if I choose not to and they are always required to offer an out of pocket cost upfront. Be careful if you chose this doctor, and make sure you schedule plenty of time for your appointment because they are always running extremely behind. The only thing I got extra from my last appointment was having to wait 45 minutes before I was taken back to begin my exam and high blood pressure from all this nonsense. I highly encourage this doctor to re-evaluate how he runs his practice if he wants to maintain a profitable business. read more

Moreover, the billed my secondary insurance as my primary, and my primary as my secondary. My secondary denied and asked Cherry to re-bill correctly. They didn't. I called the doctors office to schedule an appointment as I am having trouble with my right eye as my vision in that eye has gotten blurry and it feels like some one has dimmed the light just in my right eye. They scheduled my appointment for 2:30pm, I arrived at 2:15pm. After filling out paperwork I sat down and waited to be seen. I was called in and did a few tests of my eye and then I had my consultation with Dr. Cherry and he gave my diagnosis. I had cataract surgery on both eyes as my vision was slowly getting worse even with glasses. My night vision was even worse and I even had problems seeing the golf ball after I hit it. I called to make an appointment for my daughter and I told them that she didn't have insurance. They said it is $200 for an appointment, I scheduled and my daughter went in. The doctor saw her and sent some medicine to use because she had an infection. She started the treatment, and after 5 days her eye started getting swollen again she called them to see if the doctor could just check what's going on. He said that she needed to pay AGAIN for the appointment to see her. What a joke doctor is this one?! You can do a least one follow-up of your patients without charging even more to someone that doesn't have insurance. Also, don't be disrespectful by sending your patients to costo to see doctors there because you feel like they can't pay you. The point here was very clear, as a doctor, you don't need to charge a follow-up after the first visit or even worse charge your patient to see you again because the medicine didn't work! Went here for a second opinion on glaucoma screening results and the only positive thing I got was an appreciation for the quality of my current doctor. Despite specifically asking for an experienced technician, I was used as a training subject for a new employee on several tests. The OCT test performed by their "most experienced tech" had a signal strength of 2/10 on one eye and 3/10 on the other which makes the results practically useless. When I raised my concerns about this to the doctor who I got to see for all of 5 minutes he just chuckled and said I couldn't really get much better for my eyes. When I showed him the 7/10 and 9/10 that was achieved by my current doctor all he had to say was that the results from his office were "pretty good". I'm not going to make life changing medical decisions on "pretty good". Waste of my time and money. Definitely does not deserve the high ratings that I based my decision to try this doctor on. He puts a lot more energy into his internet reputation than his medical care. Please read his unprofessional responses to negative reviews before placing your life into his hands.
